    Hi Everyone,

I understand that it has been more than a month since I last visited here and played on AW's servers. I have been busy assisting my wife with the preparation for the arrival of our daughter.

After nearly 40 weeks of wait, my wife safely gave birth to our baby girl (3.3kg) on the 28th Nov. Since then, I have been moving around in the house at double time and have not touched my gaming rig.

Once we have settled, I hope to find time to return to AW's servers. Looking forward to be back in action.

Stiletto's been updated to version 0.25. All maps have been updated, including the new map: Bornholm.  The largest change relates to our decision to remove cTab, so we are using QS_iron's Soldier Tracker script (this is what Gauntlet originally used, actually, so we're just going back a page).  For text messaging, a new dialog is available on the map screen for sending and reviewing messages.

    Change log 025
    1. Implemented new text messaging system to replace cTab: it's available from the map screen, and received / sent messages are available for review in the left side list under "= TEXT MESSAGES =". You'll get a hint when you send a message, and a hint when you receive a message.
    2. Implemented new (old) BFT system to replace cTab: Quicksilver's Soldier Tracker. An option to enable or disable your view of the BFT system is available under text messaging. This implementation doesn't currently work to display AI groups and member names, but I'll work on that.
    3. Updated arsenal for SMA weapons: I've tried to be liberal with the weaponry in there, but I have restricted the AAC .338 weaponry as it's horribly op (.338 caliber with little recoil... why wouldn't you take this weapon) and I've restricted the M4/MK18 weapons as RHS already has them. I'm open to discussions if there are overtly obvious weapons that should be allowed, even if they are duplicates.
    4. Ported Stiletto to Bornholm.
    5. Changes to aircraft spawning options to allow UAV Operator to spawn UAVs.
    6. Logi: Spawning an infantry spawn point will now also spawn an arsenal.
    7. Implemented changes to ensure AI does not spawn in rocks and terrain.
    8. Changed Malden base per suggestion
    9. Added ground vehicle spawner to Gorgona

Thanks for listening and bringing AhoyWorld to the highest peak it has ever reached @Ryko. I understand many people, including myself, have given you shit in the past but you truly have done a good job and I commend your efforts.

I feel @PiranhA was a good choice to take the helm, he seems to have the best intentions for the community and is capable of listening to people's thoughts and criticisms to make it better. I would also like to thank him for his kind words as well as @Colsta after the last community meeting, it really means a lot to me.

Perhaps tonight at the community meeting we can discuss things together and as a community thank you for your endeavors.

It is also interesting to see David return, though we may not have the best relationship as of the last time I saw him, it is good to see an AhoyWorld Senior (EU3 Veteran like analogy, no you're not old) make a return and I see no reason why we cannot settle any differences.

Once again, thank you for your efforts.

BloodInTheSand reacted to Ryko in FSG: Lets talk about it.
    Hi folks,

Thanks for this discussion.  It's topical and time because the AWE Moderators have been discussing it intently, and we are going to proceed with a few changes.

    Background, and the problem.

The original idea behind expanding the HAT & MAT teams was to create a single, unified team to provide a variety of support options to infantry teams.  To that end, HAT, MAT and Torch to some degree were unified into FSG as a single team.  The intention was to allow that team to have access to a flexible range of support options.

The problem has been that in practice, it hasn't worked out as intended.  The rules for slotting up into FSG have been poorly interpreted, there are often times when FSG goes out without a squad leader, making coordination extremely difficult, and people have flocked to FSG without populating Alpha first.  I'm not looking to place blame on anyone - those are fun toys to play with, and if you've played a lot as infantry, of course you want a different experience.  The problem is that the resulting chaos and ill communication that results in efforts to populate FSG have created a negative environment.

    Next steps.

    1) Effective in Stiletto version 0.22, FSG will be disbanded.
    2) A new role in the infantry teams will be created - Rifleman Anti-Tank, taking the place of the Grenadier.  The Rifleman AT will have access to all the same heavy anti-tank weaponry available to the FSG specialist: for the Western factions, the BAF Javelin, the RHS MAAWS, the RHS SMAW, and for the first time, the BAF N-LAW.
    3) Torch will be re-instituted as a second armor squad.

The Platoon Commander will still have the ability to create custom squads.  If there is a mission-specific need for a specialized support group (Sniper, Mortar, etc) the commander can still select FSG specialists from the list of roles to create a custom squad.

    To respond to some points:

I do agree with this, except FSG did come with some requirements about what needed to be filled before you could take the role - which was part of the problem, as that was not being followed well.  Thus, by removing this squad and streamlining the roles, we remove this problem.

The problem is that the rules have been unclear from the get-go, and impossible to enforce in a meaningful way. Players and moderators constantly poke players in FSG about following those rules. And when Alpha players disconnect because FSG isn't working well, you now have a combat ineffective Alpha, which should be prompting FSG players to reslot, and they don't. There's no easy fix for this current setup, and I won't lose any sleep about seeing it go.

And honestly, everything that FSG can do will now be possible with the 2nd Infantry squad fire team (ie., Alpha 2).

    - R

P.S. I'd like to add that a guideline we've discussed off and on, but haven't pulled the trigger on, is to allow Infantry teams to use light armored vehicles such as the LAV-25 and Stryker to provided mechanized infantry options, and save Hammer/Torch for more traditional heavy armor. This will close the loop on the necessity for FSG as that was one of its intended functions.

BloodInTheSand reacted to Amentes in RHS MAAWS HEDP bug
Johnson brought to my attention the fact that the MAAWS currently used on server has a bug when using HEDP rounds that cause these rounds to fall significantly short of their zeroed point of aim. (http://feedback.rhsmods.org/view.php?id=3629)

Until this issue is resolved, I'm asking all players who read this to please assist in spreading this message on server so that we may prevent unnecessary deaths by unaware MAAWS operators not hitting their targets.

You're the last person that should apologise. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we commend you for your efforts and that you made a damn good staff member.

EU3 is a touchy subject at heart and I could not agree more, honestly, in what you've said about it. As someone with ties back to EU3's very first development thought process and essentially day one play (came second day it came out because lol modpack), I can clearly see how things have changed, for better and indeed for worse.

At the end of the day, EU3 is what it is now, I don't think it's got much a chance of changing, hell, with the amount of work you've managed to sink your heart into I think nothing more could be done. But there is still enjoyment to be had out there. Myself, Jochem and others in hind sight have seen this coming since Gauntlet 33 at least, when EU3 was starting to have its downfall but I cannot stress enough that though EU3 will never be as good as the glory days of Patrol Ops and further on after, there's still good times to be had.

A community is what makes a community run. If I may speak freely, the choice of scrapping the democracy votes is what killed EU3 or at least it's glory days. Now I find that the community has no camaraderie and folks are willing to be spiteful and stab people in the backs to try and climb on the higher ups backs so that they may get what they want when after all, a community is about the want of the many.

Myself and others have tried to do what we could to help but we fear that past reputation leaves us barren from trust.

All in all, EU3 is in no shape or form as fun as it was and it is a damn damn damn shame that players who have joined in the recent year or two could not see the light of what we all had. But, the server still lives on and I'm contempt with that for now.

I think I speak for everyone when I'd get on my knees and beg you to stay but it is indeed your decision and you've done enough

    Copey,

Thank you, best wishes to what you choose to do now and hopefully we'll talk again soon.

    My Resignation.

First let me say this is not a decision I have reached lightly, nor without great turmoil; it has taken me a considerable effort to reach this decision. If you don’t want to read further into this (but I’d suggest you do); the short version is that I am resigning from all AhoyWorld administrative responsibilities with immediate effect.

There have been many great times spent on this server for me, at this point I easily have 1000+ hours of Arma 3 invested with AhoyWorld. I remember the days when I first came to the server, fresh out of a milsim unit, and looking for something just as serious, but more chilled out. EU3, as it was then, was just what I wanted. Back in what I can only describe as it’s heyday back then, 3 was one of the best environments to game in; full of fun, approachable and ultimately very caring people. You had a laugh, but you got the job done while you were at it - you would fight tooth and nail for your team-mates.
In contrast: if I were to compare this to the current environment of AWE, I find myself reaching a stark conclusion - it is nothing close to that now. The AWE we all know now is not one true to the original spirit of EU3.

Not being of the original spirit of EU3 is a crucial issue to me; for now over a year I have been part of the team at the top of AWE. We came into being at a time of great uncertainty for EU3. We worked hard, extremely hard to arrest the freefall the community was facing at that time - and we did just that. In the short term we even enabled the server to prosper - player numbers went up. We managed to start rebuilding. But something went awry along the path, it has led us to the place we find ourselves now. A server where everything has been done with the best intentions, done for the right reasons, but not yielded the right results.

I set myself the personal goal of redeveloping EU3, making it into something better than what it had been before steering committee came to be. I wanted, and still do, to leave AWE in a position of strength, a position much better than the one it had been in. I have come to the realisation that this is something I have ultimately failed to achieve. And I hold myself personally accountable for that, for right or for wrong, for better or for worse. I have reached a point in life where I feel I have given everything there is for me to give to AW. Every time we have reached a milestone with AWE, I have known that we can do better, do more. This is perhaps why my goal has proven so elusive. However, the will to push forward, to do more and be more is no longer with me. I find myself more going through the motions, than actively driving myself to do better. I have lost the motivation to continue to fight forward. I must confess that I have been carrying on for some time knowing I perhaps needed a break, but I’m a give it your all, or not at all type of guy. I tried to take some time off during a holiday in the summer; it didn’t go well. Let’s just say there was a heated discussion amongst the staff team. Ultimately I felt that I had to do my part, step up to the plate as part of the team. That stopped me from taking the time away I probably needed to. It speaks to a larger issue within the staff team at AhoyWorld; but I’ll come to that further in.

Amentes made me aware of sunk cost fallacy, and this pretty much describes my feelings towards the situation I find myself in, perfectly. I have poured my heart and soul into AW, often to the detriment of other things in my life - but that’s the type of person I am, and I make no apologies for that. It is this total commitment, and the ultimately unattainable goal that I believe has left me in the position of carrying on now, for only the reason I have put so much into AW. That’s not something that is healthy, it is not something I should be doing to myself. It is not something I can continue to do any longer. The stress and weight of the responsibility that I hold is not something I can continue on with; not because of the expectations of others, but because of my own. Without some things seriously changing I cannot continue to give my all, give what I feel you, the community, deserve. And to me, that is not on.

If AWE were to be taken in a new, renewed direction; then I would most definitely wish to continue to fight on. I feel that if we were to return to some of the original beliefs of EU3 then we could, and would, progress forward. I am afraid that nothing will change without a radical shift in thinking though, and this is perhaps the straw that broke the camel's back. Coming to the realisation, that no matter how hard I push, some things will just not happen.
As for the staff team; there are elements of it that just don’t work at the moment. It is in a position of turmoil, where there is very little cohesion, and many divisions. I shall not name names, because that is not something I should do. However, I do believe in honesty and transparency, and so you, the community, should know about it. Those wishing to join the team should be critically aware of what they are getting into. I mean this with no malice, but instead a fundamental respect for those people who wish to step up, and do what is necessary.

I would like to pay homage to those past and present who have put every effort into EU3, now AWE; thank them for everything they have done. I would also like to say thanks in advance for everything that those who will follow me do. Without the dedication of so many people AWE would not be where it is now, and it will not go where it may go either.
In the end I hold myself personally accountable for failings here at AW. Because I know I should do better, but I can’t, not right now, and I don’t know if I will be able to again.

I promise you this, I will do my best to stay around AW as a regular player, to push for change as a regular player. I care deeply for this community, and writing this has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in a long, long time. I’ve had to stop 3 times now - and I confess, every time has been because I have teared up pretty badly. I suppose, I should probably finish this off with an apology.

I am truly very sorry for not doing better by you AhoyWorld.

    Best Regards and Goodbye,
    Copey

I've spoken to KPJ and I'm happy to run a quick mock up for building clearing tomorrow night at approx. 8pm GMT on AWE. This will be done simply by running you through garrisoned buildings with all of the occupants restrained at first, then after you get the hang of it leaving them armed and able to shoot back. If anybody would like to help and deliver some actual short training on clearing then that would be fantastic.

BloodInTheSand got a reaction from Eldarthe3rd in [Guide] AT Launchers & Etiquette
Hello again folks! Today I'll be testing out the usefulness of the various BLUFOR launchers available to us in game. We'll start out with the standard available anti-tank launchers and move on from there. For the purposes of these tests I have a group of russian armed forces infantry set up in a 50m spread at 5m intervals, a BTR-70, a BMP-2, a T-34, T-55, T-70 and T-90. As well as this if there are multiple versions of a launcher, I will be testing all of the available versions (Ammo and author, not colour scheme) and all will be used with optics if available (SMAW and MAAWS particularly). I will not be testing the RPG-7, RPG-26 or any of the anti air launchers (the stinger is fairly simple, point, lock, shoot. If they flare, repeat process as very few vehicles will be functional after a stinger missile lands)
All rounds will be fired from a distance of approximately 100m, launcher permitting. Shots will be on the rear armour of vehicles, and on a direct impact to the first infantryman in the group.
All tests will be run 10 times for maximum accuracy of results, and I will only be testing damaging rounds. I will also not be testing size and weight, as these are easy enough to spot from a quick glance at the arsenal. See what suits you best.

    Etiquette

This is possibly THE most important part of using launchers. As always, follow your standard rules of engagement (Ask your TL or SL if you're unsure of these) and pick only targets that are within your effective range (ranging capabilities of the launcher). Once you have your target selected, designate it to people in the area using local chat to make sure they know what you're looking at and can potentially offer assistance, or prepare for the dismounting crew of the vehicle. This is especially important if the vehicle is close as it will allow your team members to get into an appropriate position of cover to protect them from the blast when your rocket impacts.
Once your launcher is ready, loaded and ranged - make sure your backblast is clear. Have a look behind you to see if anyone is there, and call "Clear backblast!" in local to make sure everybody knows to keep away. Before firing, make sure to call out again - either "Firing", "Rifle!" or something to that effect will normally do the job. Backblast can be fatal - so making sure everyone is clear is your top priority, above engaging the target.
Make sure to carry an appropriate launcher for what you are doing. For standard infantry, the M72A7 should suffice. LAT will want the AT4, MAT the SMAW or MAAWS, and HAT the Javelin.

So, let's get on with the tests.

    M72A7 LAW

The effectiveness of this launcher is often contested. As a very light, portable and disposable anti-tank launcher they are often an invaluable part of any infantry squad. Can also be outfitted with a laser, for some reason.
Infantry: Upon testing, the launcher was quite effective against infantry. Killing all within 25m of the blast and causing shrapnel injuries to all outside, some shrapnel even landing close to me.
BTR-70: At 100m, one round was enough to destroy the vehicle on 10/10 tests from different angles on direct impact.
BMP-2: The same results, however the BMP was still able to move and fire for a short while after impact before it started to cook off (thick black smoke as it did so)
T-55: No effect from one shot. However, the M72 was enough to destroy a T-34 in one shot on 10/10 tests.

    M136/AT4 - Range 400m
    RHS
    HEAT

Infantry: Killed only the target of the impact, no injury to other targets
Vehicles: Effective in one round to every vehicle excluding the T-90, which although damaged was still very much operational.

    HEDP

Infantry: Very similar effects to the M72A7 round. Killed all infantry within 25m and caused shrapnel wounds to all other infantry, with some shrapnel landing on my position though none impacting me.
Vehicles: Hell, this thing is an M72 in a different package. Effective in one round on all vehicles up to and including a T-34, with no effect on more heavily armoured targets.

    HP

Infantry: Same as HEAT. Killed only the impact target with no further injuries.
Vehicles: On 10/10 tests this destroyed every vehicle, including the T-90 in one round. Even able to destroy a T-90 from a glancing blow to the front armour. For the RHS version of the launcher, I'm calling this my "writer's choice". A fantastic launcher to carry.

    SMAW - Range 500m
    RHS
    HEAA
For this test I will NOT be testing the NE rounds.

Infantry: Killed all infantry within 25m, wounds out to 50m were minor.
Vehicles: Effective on all vehicles from all angles. Definitely my "writer's choice" for the SMAW

    HEDP

Infantry: Killed all infantry within 30m, knocked out and eventually killed out to 50m.
Vehicles: Effective on vehicles up to and including the T34, no damage any higher than this.

    M3 MAAWS - Range 900m
    RHS
    HEAT

Infantry: Killed all within 25m, no injuries to others
Vehicles: Simply put this launcher is terrifying. Able to destroy everything except the T-90 on even the worst of glancing blows, with the T-90 surviving these with severe damage inflicted. Nothing stands up to the MAAWS HEAT rounds which makes them my writer's choice for this launcher

    HEDP

Infantry: Killed all within 25m, injuries out to 50m.
Vehicles: Destroyed everything up to the T-55 in one round, able to damage tracks of a T-72. A nice middle of the road round.

    HE
These rounds are particularly nasty due to their ability to be set up for an airburst. Using the scroll wheel, you can set up a distance after which the round will detonate, drastically improving it's effectiveness against infantry.

Infantry: Immediately killed all within 50m. Placed more to check and there were minor injuries out to 100m.
Vehicles: Able to destroy everything up to and including the BMP-2 in one round. No damage to other vehicles.

    JAVELIN - Range Approx 2000m
    RHS

Infantry: Killed within 5m of blast, no further injuries.
Vehicles: Destroyed everything, including the T-90 even up to 2km away. The top attack ability of these launchers makes them very, very deadly.

    Summary
M72: If you have the carry weight available, there is almost no excuse to not carry one of these. Perhaps not the most effective launcher on earth, but in a bind it will most definitely be better than grenades or nothing at all.
AT4: Light and flexible. Top choice for an LAT who's hoping to put the hurt down on anything but the heaviest armour.
SMAW: Unfortunately living in the shadow of the MAAWS. A fantastic launcher in it's own right, but just not flexible or deadly enough to compete.
MAAWS: Medium weight, high effectiveness. Able to deal with just about every target in it's range. This is my writer's choice launcher and the epitome of MAT.
JAVELIN: Long range, deadly but very bulky. Top and only choice for HAT. My recommendation is the RHS version due to it's extra effectiveness against infantry.

Like last time, I will be adding more to this over time and adjusting what is written to better reflect the point I was trying to get across.

I personally don't want someone, anyone, using the word gay in a negative way, nor is joking about rape okay in a mixed community like this. People need to be held to high standard of decorum, so i applaud whoever banned you.

If you want to make rape jokes and call people anything up to and including 'gay faggy fags' go ahead and do that on another server populated by like-minded people.

One of the best things i've found about this server is that everyone is really respectful and professional, with a few exceptions.
