The island of Altis has a history full of violence, as does the rest of the Altis Archipelago. During the Cold War, Altis fell into Soviet sphere of influence, which was welcomed by some of its people and resented by others. A short lived insurgency against the communist rule was quickly ended, not without help from Soviet troops. With the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991, Altis regained some of its lost freedom, but it would not be an end to unrest on the island. In fact, it would only get worse.
The original government decided to keep close bonds with Russia, but it quickly became apparent that the government has no way of remaining in power. Over the years Altis would gradually drift away from Russia and towards NATO, as its external politics stabilized. Nothing stabilized internally, however. Since 1991 Altis experienced multiple snap elections, political assassinations, mass shootings and two attempted coups. "Altian clock" - originally a comedic gag inspired by "the doomsday clock" - is counting down time to Altis descending into chaos, and people look at it with concern. The unrest on the island made for fertile ground in which to plant dangerous ideas. Ideas that are poison to the society, ideas that can only result in more violence. And with recent geological surveys suggesting presence of uranium on the island, Russia once more turns it's gaze towards Altis, which - one could say - "rightfully" belonged to them.
Now Altis is on the brink of civil war. Rebellion has taken root on the island. The rebels were swayed by the poisonous words of the anarchists to take up arms against the government. It is almost certain that they are backed by the international organization, who call themselves "Freedom" - a large group regarded by most countries as terrorists, anarchists. Freedom fights to overthrow all governments, all systems of justice, all that which in their view limits the freedom of an individual. There is no proof of their involvement on Altis, but the rebellion seems to share their viewpoint, and it is certain that they are funded by an external power - most likely Freedom, but suspicion also falls on Russia.
Situation on the island is likely to worsen, as Altian Army struggles to deal with the insurgency. The government tries to seek help abroad. The corporate-funded mercenary group "Gatekeeper" refused cooperation, as it seems Russia offered them a much better contract to avoid their involvement with Altian government. The international task force "Epsilon" operating under NATO banner and dedicated to counteracting global terrorism threats refused involvement for now, uncertain of the situation on Altis. The only hope of bringing them into the fray is to find definite proof of Freedom's involvement. USA and UK agreed to send equipment to support the Altian army, as well as a token military force, which is yet to arrive. The only open offer of "help" came from Russia, but the government was forced to reject it. Despite that, the Russian military is clearly on the move, as the bear is sensing an opportunity.  This caused concern in NATO and so the scene is set...
With NATO and Russian forces approaching the island in turmoil and a terrorist organization seemingly acting from behind the scenes, it seems all ingredients for a disaster have been added to the cauldron. It is only a matter of time before it starts to boil.

    The assets
    Player faction: Altian military
    Player slots: 32
    - PLATCO - 4-man command element and armored command vehicle
    - 3 Infantry Squads - Alpha, Bravo, Charlie - 8-man each (4-man fireteam, 3-man maneuver team + engineer - effectively two 4-man fireteams)
    - Deimos - BMP-1P IFV - 2-man crew (Gunner/commander and driver)
    - Support team - 2-man team equipped with either an HMG or recoilless rifle, at commander's discretion
    - Various wheeled transport vehicles

There will be no arsenal, players are given custom loadouts. Resupply will be possible.
Despite using a mix of western and russian weaponry, squad layouts are organised so that there should always be someone who uses the same ammo type.

    The mission
The goal is to put an end to insurgent activity in the area. The rebels have attacked the town of Abdera, most likely to retaliate against the civilians loyal to the government. We are also expecting the insurgents to have several camps, outposts or weapon caches in the area. We must retake the town, and find and neutralize any insurgent threat in it's vicinity. Safety of civilians is a priority. Securing intel or capturing insurgents for interrogation could also prove beneficial to our efforts. We should also be ready to counter any insurgent movements in response to our actions and be on the lookout for possible proof of Freedom's involvement in the insurgency.
    The modset
We will be using BAF, RHS, ACE and TFAR and associated compatibility patches. To make it extra easy, here's a colection link:

    Ahoy,

As you will be aware from the last community update, Mark has now stepped down from Core Staff, and the role as Site Owner. We want to personally thank Mark for his service, and what he has contributed to the community during his time as Core Staff and Site Owner.

In terms of an overall hierarchy change, we have scrapped the role of Site Owner, giving all members of Core Staff the responsibilities that the Site Owner had. Realistically, this will not affect any members of the community, and we want to place emphasis that it will be business as usual at AhoyWorld, and we look forward the opportunities that the next year will bring.

We want to thank the members of the community for supporting us, whether this is through donations or simply being here, as it's the members that truly keep this community afloat.

If anyone has any questions for the Corestaff team we will be happy to answer them in the comments of this post.

I will also take this opportunity to say Merry Christmas and a happy new year from Ahoyworld!

    Yours Truly,
    AhoyWorld Corestaff

What a difference a year makes, this time last year we were looking at closing shops and now I would say we are pretty stable for at least another year

As mentioned numerous times before, thank you all for your support and long may it continue.

I would like to apologies on the delay of IA4 and its new AWE counterpart, it has taken a lot longer than we had anticipated due to a number of reasons. (real life) Hopefully it wont be too long now.

Lastly, This will be my last update, I have decided that I will call it time come the end of this month and step down from the staff team completely.
I just want to thank each and everyone of you for your support especially those in the staff team and to those that brought me in, helped me along the way and trusted me at the top, thank you, you know who you are ❤️

Ace on EU1 is a little problematic, the mod set has been kept to client side only mods because we want to keep the server as accessible to new players as possible! That means you are not required to download any mods to be able to play. This will hopefully keep the threshold for joining our EU1 server as low as possible.

We also arrange weekly game nights on EU2, where we run TFAR beta on top of the default EU1 mods. This is to ensure better communication and better quality of play and immersion as well. These game nights employ or more coordinated squad and command structure and a specific mission to complete as a team.

ACE among others used to be an essential part of the Enhanced Server (AWE). The Enhanced server has been inactive for a while but the plan is to restart the AWE server once I&A4 is out of beta. As far as I'm aware I&A4 is pretty much feature complete, but we are still ironing out performance issues and the occasional bug.

Ahoyworld is yes, MSO and I&A are both up and running.  AWE is, and has been for a while as stated in multiple places around these forums, down.  It's expected to come back up, with a new modset, when I&A4 is released.  A release date for I&A4 is not known, Ryko is, very understandably, taking a "it'll be released when it's ready" approach.

JANXOL reacted to LH5 in How to install TFAR and the teamspeak Addon
Step 1: First you will need to subscribe to Task Force Arrowhead Radio (BETA!!!) on the steam workshop (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=894678801)

You will also need to subscribe to the required mod CBA_A3 for TFAR to work.
Step 2: open the Arma 3 launcher and go to the MOD category
Step 3: time to load the TS addon so TFAR works in game, to do this go over to the Task Force Arrowhead Radio (BETA!!!) under available mods and click on the drop-down arrow.
Once you have clicked on the drop-down arrow it should look like this, now go to the Display more options button.
Now open folder in Windows Explorer.

Be sure to follow the warning.

Once you have opened Windows Explorer locate the folder named @Task Force Arrowhead Radio (BETA!!!) and open it.

Now that you are in the TFAR folder open the teamspeak folder.

Now double left click on the task_force_radio TeamSpeak Add-On, once you have done this a window looking like this should open. Once open select install and follow the prompts. (version number will change over time)

The final prompt should be add-on installed. Do you want to activate this Add-On? Select yes and restart your teamspeak

Step 2.1: Now it’s time to check the Add-On is activated.
On teamspeak go to tools and go down to options

Once in options go to the Addons category and look for Task Force Arrowhead Radio, once located check for the box that will either say Enabled or Disabled. If disabled, click on the box that says disabled to enable it.

Congratulations you have now installed TFAR and the TS addon.  (if you are referring to this guide on how to update to the latest version of the plug in all you need to do is reinstall the addon following the same steps)

Looking for a basic guide on how to use the radio's, try this:

Yeah mini, Not that simple. Yes i can close the other server. But this will break it for when @kennychr comes back to redo the MSO and thats not fair. The main issues are the ports, and the ACE version that is coming out after the new DLC. There is no point in me starting setting things up just to have to redo them in another month. Its a waste of time. Plus if the server were to release by then it would have to come back down to fix issues. So we are waiting.

    Hi guys,

A while ago we tried to have content creators from the community feed us videos from our servers to be uploaded to our youtube channels. This came across some issues and ultimately we decided to put the program on hold until we were comfortable with another way of running things.

I am glad to announce that today is the day! using one of the servers and a program called resilio we think that we have come up with a strategy that will work and should offer a more consistent experiance for all.

I agree with Johnson on this. It would basically cover both options, and the players would be able to choose what map and what faction to play. It's interesting to see the poll so even.
And it's great to see this many people casting a vote and discussing the options.

Concidering how even the polls are, it might be worth concidering the original "Factions" idea; the same idea proposed in this poll.

I can see both sides being happy if there is both a wide variety of "strict" factions (Serbian Armed Forces, US Marines, US Army, MARSOC, Rangers, Russian MSV, Russian VDV, Russian Spetsnaz, etc. etc.) , but then also generic "Casual" factions (BLUFOR, OPFOR, GREFOR).

These could all be interchangeable in game, so if most players wish to switch to a specific faction, they can, and vise versa. Those who may remember the Stiletto faction system could see how easilly this could work.

Back in the day I spent most of my gametime on AWE/EU#3, and it is one of the servers I've enjoyed the most, in all of the games I've played. As most others here, I came to AW for EU#1, but stayed for EU#3. Thanks to the forced teamplay I felt more involved in the mission, it was not just me firing at some enemy soldiers, it was a whole operation with different people in different roles working together to achive a common goal. The forced teamplay pushed me a little out of my comfort zone, which in turn made playing much more enjoyable. It also made me interact more with the community, which in the end is why I've spent most of my Arma hours on AW servers.

After I started at uni three years ago, I haven't been able to play as often as I used to do. But when I had the time, I would always jump on EU#3 to see if there were anyone on. It saddens me to see that the server has died out, and I hope that a fresh start will bring AWE/EU#3 back to its former glory.
That beeing said, I sadly will not be able to play for the next year, as I'm going on exchange and leaving my computer at home. But  I'm looking forward to see what will become of AWE.

In regards to this discussion I voted for the strict relations, as I feel like it is the option that enforces teamplay the most.

Unsuprisingly I voted for a strict arsenal.

Reasons: Immersion, as I always have been crusading for that. (Though I don`t have that much of a problem with people using non-faction weapons. For me the main part is uniforms)
