Your actions and behavior were not respectful to our community and certainly not to the online administrator that you teamkilled on purpose.
But after almost two years being banned, the verbal request on teamspeak and on the forum I have come to the conclusion to lift your ban.

This is a last warning, be respectful to everybody, on teamspeak, in chat and on voice.
A next ban will be a permanent one.

Solex reacted to Ryko in Ahoyworld Leadership transition
    Ahoy all members,

We have some news for you! There will be a change within the leadership of ahoyworld. Effective today, I am stepping down as leader of Ahoyworld, and handing the reigns over to PiranhA. There are a variety of reasons for this transition, which I'll get into, but I will say that this has not been a snap decision: We have had many meetings with PiranhA over the past few weeks with an eye to leadership transition, as we on the Core Staff wanted to be sure the future of Ahoyworld would be guaranteed, with progress being made in the process.

I'll explain why Core Staff came to this decision of putting a fish in charge of the boat.

As a bit of background, the majority of the current members of Core Staff have been running Ahoyworld for a long time, and things in their real lives have been taking precedence over pushing Ahoyworld along to make it an interesting, exciting community to play games. We've kept the motor running and paid the bills, but there hasn't been a lot of time left over to make it a better place.

In short, some new blood is needed at the tiller. PiranhA has the confidence of Core Staff to keep a firm hand into new waters, as well as to keep the ship in the right direction (to maximize the amount of naval analogies). We trust him to handle the community like it is one of his kids, as we see Ahoyworld a child of our own. PiranhA has been a constant Ahoyworld supporter and has really stepped up over the years, going above and beyond his role as just an administrator in Ahoyworld: some of you may recall he assisted in hosting the Ahoyworld meetup in Holland in 2016.

We hope everybody will give PiranhA a warm welcome and help him to adjust to his new position. To ease him into the position, we are going to have a long transition period: while the people in the current Core Staff positions will eventually change, for now, everyone is staying on board in their respective capacity to ensure that PiranhA gets up to speed and is supported in the best manner possible. PiranhA has a lot of great ideas for the future direction of Ahoyworld: We have been talking through and thinking about within the Core Staff and see his plans as very ambitious, but achievable. For myself, I will still be very much firmly attached to Ahoyworld, but I will be spending more time on development of both the public and modded missions.

From a player's point of view - you probably won't notice any change to your gaming experience.

As a final word about this transition: We are well aware that over the past few days there has been alot of unrest within the community. It's important to note that this transition is coincidental with those recent events, these discussions about transition have been ongoing for several months.

Another change we want to highlight is the return of David (Muckduck) to Core Staff: we've needed another body to help out with communications, and as David has done this in the past, we're confident he'll be a great fit in this role.

    All the best,

Ryko and Core Staff (RazGriz33, Christiansen, S0zi0p4th, Mark T)

If you are sticking with 1080 gaming that set up is pretty much fine, dependant on memory available.

You could upgrade the GPU and it should kick most games arses at 1080p.

Second monitor as mentioned, always a good call.

"Yeah, I sold my second screen; never used it anyway, had to go." - Nobody. Ever.

Personally I always skip a year when it comes to graphics cards. Don't wanna spend that money staying on the cutting edge all the time, and I never go for the flagship cards, I always go for the 70, but even those are getting crazy expensive thanks to cryptocurrencies these days.

I can't speak for DCS and Xplane, but both ArmA 3 and the Warhammers of Total War are notorious for not utilising the CPU too well. It's unlikely in the extreme that a CPU upgrade would avail you with those two games.

Look, despite me having talked to you, Copey and Stanhope while part of this was going on, hearing things from both sides of this, I still don't have a fucking clue what the bloody hell the damn problem is.

I'm sorry, but in these threads, the problems simply aren't laid out in a manner that people who haven't been part of the argument from the inside can understand.

As it is, all I've seen is complaints about lack of communication that people who aren't in the Admin staff won't be able to recognize, and shit thrown at Stanhope that, again, I personally can't recognise and which resembles more of a flat-out attack on the way out the door than it does anything constructive.

I've known you for a long time. I've known Copey for a long time. Some of the shit I see right now, like the ship-sinking meme, I simply can't believe I'm actually seeing, whether it's merited or not. When I hear Numbnuts making jokes comparing Stanhope to Hitler; and I hear people from your camp laugh at that; that's fucking low. I didn't expect low from any of you.

I've tried talking to some of you about this. I've messaged Copey several times trying to get his explanation for this. So far, I've heard nothing back about it. It's fucking disappointing; especially when AhoyWorld has been in similar situations before, all of which were handled amicably and without making a public shit-show.

I've suggested to all of you that you sit down together. I've offered to sit in a chat with the three of you and moderate you into a civil talk about this shit.

Seems that wasn't an option. Why, I don't know.

Let me keep everyone in the loop:

I&A 3.2.10 is never going to be released, simply because we chose to move on to I&A 3.3.0.  We've made this decision because of the amount of changes and what was changed.  We're currently already testing this version and i'm hoping to get it ready to go in a week or 2 tops.  I'm not making any promises tho.  By all means keep sending feedback/ideas/things that annoy you my way.  I'll try to get all of them fixed/implemented.  But of course i can't promise that i'll be able to do it.

A little todo list i currently have:
Tweak some of the updated base designs, i noticed a few floating hedgehogs.
Fix doors not opening on side mission objective building.
Add screenshots to most of the briefings.
Rewrite some of those briefings because my english is just terrible from time to time.
Change up where prio AA missions spawns.
Fix some locality issues with scrollwheel options
And because of an update to the TK message script you now get the variable name of a player instead of his username, that needs fixing as well

Feel free to suggest other things that should be on that list.

Solex reacted to Copey in An Open Letter of Resignation to AhoyWorld
    My Resignation.

First let me say this is not a decision I have reached lightly, nor without great turmoil; it has taken me a considerable effort to reach this decision. If you don’t want to read further into this (but I’d suggest you do); the short version is that I am resigning from all AhoyWorld administrative responsibilities with immediate effect.

There have been many great times spent on this server for me, at this point I easily have 1000+ hours of Arma 3 invested with AhoyWorld. I remember the days when I first came to the server, fresh out of a milsim unit, and looking for something just as serious, but more chilled out. EU3, as it was then, was just what I wanted. Back in what I can only describe as it’s heyday back then, 3 was one of the best environments to game in; full of fun, approachable and ultimately very caring people. You had a laugh, but you got the job done while you were at it - you would fight tooth and nail for your team-mates.
In contrast: if I were to compare this to the current environment of AWE, I find myself reaching a stark conclusion - it is nothing close to that now. The AWE we all know now is not one true to the original spirit of EU3.

Not being of the original spirit of EU3 is a crucial issue to me; for now over a year I have been part of the team at the top of AWE. We came into being at a time of great uncertainty for EU3. We worked hard, extremely hard to arrest the freefall the community was facing at that time - and we did just that. In the short term we even enabled the server to prosper - player numbers went up. We managed to start rebuilding. But something went awry along the path, it has led us to the place we find ourselves now. A server where everything has been done with the best intentions, done for the right reasons, but not yielded the right results.

I set myself the personal goal of redeveloping EU3, making it into something better than what it had been before steering committee came to be. I wanted, and still do, to leave AWE in a position of strength, a position much better than the one it had been in. I have come to the realisation that this is something I have ultimately failed to achieve. And I hold myself personally accountable for that, for right or for wrong, for better or for worse. I have reached a point in life where I feel I have given everything there is for me to give to AW. Every time we have reached a milestone with AWE, I have known that we can do better, do more. This is perhaps why my goal has proven so elusive. However, the will to push forward, to do more and be more is no longer with me. I find myself more going through the motions, than actively driving myself to do better. I have lost the motivation to continue to fight forward. I must confess that I have been carrying on for some time knowing I perhaps needed a break, but I’m a give it your all, or not at all type of guy. I tried to take some time off during a holiday in the summer; it didn’t go well. Let’s just say there was a heated discussion amongst the staff team. Ultimately I felt that I had to do my part, step up to the plate as part of the team. That stopped me from taking the time away I probably needed to. It speaks to a larger issue within the staff team at AhoyWorld; but I’ll come to that further in.

Amentes made me aware of sunk cost fallacy, and this pretty much describes my feelings towards the situation I find myself in, perfectly. I have poured my heart and soul into AW, often to the detriment of other things in my life - but that’s the type of person I am, and I make no apologies for that. It is this total commitment, and the ultimately unattainable goal that I believe has left me in the position of carrying on now, for only the reason I have put so much into AW. That’s not something that is healthy, it is not something I should be doing to myself. It is not something I can continue to do any longer. The stress and weight of the responsibility that I hold is not something I can continue on with; not because of the expectations of others, but because of my own. Without some things seriously changing I cannot continue to give my all, give what I feel you, the community, deserve. And to me, that is not on.

If AWE were to be taken in a new, renewed direction; then I would most definitely wish to continue to fight on. I feel that if we were to return to some of the original beliefs of EU3 then we could, and would, progress forward. I am afraid that nothing will change without a radical shift in thinking though, and this is perhaps the straw that broke the camel's back. Coming to the realisation, that no matter how hard I push, some things will just not happen.
As for the staff team; there are elements of it that just don’t work at the moment. It is in a position of turmoil, where there is very little cohesion, and many divisions. I shall not name names, because that is not something I should do. However, I do believe in honesty and transparency, and so you, the community, should know about it. Those wishing to join the team should be critically aware of what they are getting into. I mean this with no malice, but instead a fundamental respect for those people who wish to step up, and do what is necessary.

I would like to pay homage to those past and present who have put every effort into EU3, now AWE; thank them for everything they have done. I would also like to say thanks in advance for everything that those who will follow me do. Without the dedication of so many people AWE would not be where it is now, and it will not go where it may go either.
In the end I hold myself personally accountable for failings here at AW. Because I know I should do better, but I can’t, not right now, and I don’t know if I will be able to again.

I promise you this, I will do my best to stay around AW as a regular player, to push for change as a regular player. I care deeply for this community, and writing this has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in a long, long time. I’ve had to stop 3 times now - and I confess, every time has been because I have teared up pretty badly. I suppose, I should probably finish this off with an apology.

I am truly very sorry for not doing better by you AhoyWorld.

    Best Regards and Goodbye,
    Copey

    Little update on this:
I've found some time here and there to do some scripting and fixed some of the mentioned issues.

Side missions will now spawn at at least 2 km from any FOB and base instead of the previous 1 km.
I've looked at the AOs and removed those i thought were rather close to FOBs or significantly overlap.  If anyone has a main AO name that he thinks is too close to a FOB or overlaps with other AOs significantly let me know and i'll have a look into it.

I've also (hopefully) fixed the service pad not repairing wheels.  (And made it look a bit prettier.)

I've also done some minor tweaks to several things that'll just make I&A look a bit prettier.  Like giving the spawn points at FOBs the names of the FOBs.  And replacing some hints with better looking title thingies.

Oh and i've written some code that'll allow pilots to despawn damaged helis in base and FOBs.

And i'm still not making any promises and i cannot say when the next version of I&A is coming out .

    Stan

Right, little update: i'm still planning on doing/fixing most of the things that were mentioned/suggested here.  But real life has caught up and will be keeping me rather busy until the end of next week.  After that i'll have a few days with nothing planned and will try, again no promises, to get most of this fixed/implemented/...

    Hi
I personally think that I act a bit like a cheapscate compared to some people (the ones that own the Thrustmaster Warthog)...anyway I say that because I run the, as some people call it, "plastic ripoff of the Warthog", the Saitek X55 Rhino. I personally think its amazing but it can drive people nuts sometimes, what I mean by that is the ghost buttons activate anywhere at anytime; i dont know any other way of putting it, so lets say youve got a button assigned to Engine On/Off, so youre flying somwhere and the X55 just decides to "RKO 'Outta Nowhere" the heli/plane as it presses the button "for you". Its a bug, yes, any fixes, no clue. Its a good piece of kit if you want a cheaper H.O.T.A.S system but the Warthog is highly recommended if you have money to spend. Im actually saving up for one now. My opinion on TrackIR is: from what ive heard its awesome and worth every penny + you can use it on Arma but it just doesnt feel right (how do I know = ive used freetracknoIR {i know i shouldnt be comparing the two}) but other than that I havent used TrackIR myself.
PS: I have to do a Macbeth quote there "Is that a X55 I see before me?" and that quote goes to Solex.
The Saitek Fly 5 is a good one...
Im gonna have to cut that one short there David...what I want to say is that the FLY 5 is SHOCKING!!. That was the joystick that I had before the X55 and guess what happened...the rudder axis snapped clean. Ok so here is the context: I was flying on FSX quite a long time before joining the A3 Community, I was about to take off in a Bell-206 Jet Ranger and hey I needed to make a coordibated turn (using the X-Axis, Y-Axis and the rudder axis at the same time) and *snap* the joystick does a 180° turn on me - the rudder snapped. I still have it somwhere - I saw it the other day when looking for the X55. Ill get a picture up tomorrow. Itll be on the Gallery under darkstar1426.

So it comes down to this - should people change the radio channel structure or not?

Option A: "Just put everyone in the squad on the same channel"

This works great when two conditions are present:

    1) There is a strong command structure in place (ie., Platoon Command and Squad Lead(s))
    2) The squad moves as a singular unit, ie., within shouting range.

Guess how often those two conditions occur?

    Option B: "GEN:100, A1: 110, A2: 120" (or whatever)

The more prevalent condition is that NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE COMMAND and it's left up to a single person to run as ASL (or sometimes even just a fire team leader) to organize the plan and the various squads.

In this case all you Option A people are asking the ASL to manage his squad, as well as Vortex/MAT/MMG on Long Range.  The whole reason I came up with 100/110/120 was so I could delegate squad movement and action to the fire team leads (or people I designate as FTL because no one seems to want to take that slot).  Enforcing radio discipline is fine and dandy.  But when Vortex/MAT/MMG all want a piece of your attention, there's little left for the squad.

Advantages here are that it encourages people to run as FTL (or something akin to that) which I would hope grooms them for command positions.  As well it allows for more finessed movement: if I have to keep everyone in shouting distance, then there's no way the two fire teams will be able to flank from different directions on a target.

    Discuss.
