Copey reacted to Ryko in Ahoyworld Enhanced - Gauntlet 48 status update
    Hi folks,

Obviously, recent events on the ahoyworld website have thrown a bit of a wrench in our plans to update the Enhanced (EU3) server.  Rest assured there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and that the next iteration of Gauntlet is on the way, and we're really excited about what it has to offer.

    Here are some highlights:

    1) N'Ziwasogo - you might have a hard time pronouncing it, but this new map will be a hoot to play on.  I've started calling it "the poor man's Tanoa", but it captures the lush jungle environment in a more forgiving way than Tanoa - that is to say, you'll probably have a better chance of spotting the African Militia (the default OPFOR faction) because the map isn't quite as crowded with jungle clutter as Tanoa.

    2) cTab - we're implementing the Commander's Tablet MOD in Enhanced, to remove a bit of the "magic map" feeling in Arma.  cTab is great for real-time troop reports, BLUFOR tracking, and much more (including helmet cam video and even sending text messages). By implementing it, we're going to restrict the usage of the general map: Map markers and drawings are automatically removed when you're outside of base, but the mission commander can save the markers before the mission begins, allowing for useful planning tools.

    3) Mod changes - a few mods have been removed because they produced errors, weren't kept up to date with Apex, or weren't being used regularly.  Specifically: Clafghan, ALiVE, DAC, the LAV25 Stryker, SMA and the TF47 launchers.  A few mods have also been updated recently, and we'll be keeping up to date with them: Leight's OPFOR is replaced with Project OPFOR, we're upgrading to ACRE 2.2, and the F/A-18 has a new version.  We know some people will really miss some of the great optics available in SMA, so we've implemented the much slimmer FHQ weapon accessories mod which fills this gap and also adds a great deal of awesome optics.

    4) Gauntlet updates:
4A) the player roster function has been completely redesigned: it's no longer just a hint, but its own separate dialogue.
4B) quick saving & quick loading: after you've created a loadout, you can save it in the arsenal, but you can also quick save it in Gauntlet for the duration of the mission. When you respawn, you'll automatically load that gear provided you're in the same slot. Also, you can refresh your ammo with the saved loadout by just selecting the option from ACE when you're near the arsenal.
4C) ASR AI3 and VCOM AI Driving will both be implemented on the server, promising to give a fresh take on how the AI respond to players.
4D) A brand new mission will be introduced with Gauntlet 48, and a few of the missions have been overhauled for better performance and error fixes.
4E) The respawn system uses menuPosition, which works with the FOB vehicle (you can select where you want to spawn).
4F) Beneath the hood, Gauntlet uses a new system to include a single set of files which will make updating the arsenal and MOD/Zeus access very simple, making maintaining the Gauntlet mission much, much easier.
4G) The arsenal has been updated to include APEX gear and weaponry that fit our environment.
4H) There's a new garbage can in base for the OCD types that need to keep the base clean, or you can use a function on the "Keep Calm and Play your Role" sign that clears up the base.

When the Enhanced server is updated to Gauntlet 48 and the required modset, we'll be running N'Ziwasogo for a day or two to make sure all the changes are solid, and then I'll roll out the code to the rest of the maps.  We'll probably schedule a game night for the grand unveiling!

Comments, questions, concerns, post 'em here.

Please do not use this thread to request new Maps, MODs or Features! There is a new area being worked on specifically for that, so hang on for a little bit longer please!
However, still use this thread to discuss any changes that have been made in version 48, including new MODs, Maps and Features that have already been added or removed i this update.

Copey reacted to Ryko in AW Enhanced Steering Committee
After several years of being involved with EU3, Christiansen has moved on to spearhead the realism unit on EU6 (AHOSEC - now being called the 124th Marines). This has left a void in AhoyWorld Enhanced in terms of direction and development.  In order to create a sense of direction and accountability, and to make sure the direction of the Enhanced community is not led by a single person, we are instituting a three-person steering committee.

This committee will be staffed by Ryko, SkullCollector and Hobnob.

While the steering committee will be ultimately responsible for deciding the format, direction and style of the Ahoyworld Enhanced experience, this will not be done in isolation.  Rather, the committee will collate requests and suggestions from AWE players and staff and push them through discussion on the AhoyWorld Forum.  The forum will be the central hub for the discussion and decisions relating to all changes to the Ahoyworld Enhanced format.

The Steering Committee will address questions of new game MODs, new maps, and alterations to the format of the mission(s) played on the Enhanced server.  Any player or staff member can bring an issue up for discussion.  A member of the steering committee will assign a date in the future where discussion will be concluded, and a decision will be taken at that time.  This date will be a minimum of two weeks.  Some issues may be decided immediately if they are significantly contrary to the intention of the experience.  While discussion of any issues raised is encouraged across all players and staff, ultimately, the steering committee will decide on how these issues will be addressed.

For greater clarity, the Steering committee has no supervisory authority over other AhoyWorld Moderators and Admins: their role is specifically related to the direction and implementation of the AhoyWorld Enhanced experience.  Rules enforcement will still be conducted by all Moderators and Admins, and any arbitration of bans still goes through the regular community process.

For further information, please direct any questions to Ryko, SkullCollector and Hobnob.

The Israeli Defense Force has decided to send a special force to mount an assault on the insurgent forces in Zargabad: under cover of darkness, the IDF has several objectives to accomplish in a tight time line.

This game night will be a little different, in that you start as BLUFOR, with all the technical advantages: night vision goggles, radios, silenced modern weapons, etc; if you die, you'll respawn as the Zargabad insurgent OPFOR.

BLUFOR wins if it can accomplish 3 out of 5 possible objectives within 60 minutes.
OPFOR wins if all BLUFOR members are killed, or time runs out before 3 objectives are completed.

They look interesting but I see this as a case of a lot of effort to produce an effect that will be used only in very rare instances. Even ACE fast roping is rarely used.

Now, if you could throw a rope from the base of a building and climb up: that would be useful.

I had used my sleepy brain and came up with idea which i would like to share with you all. You know that feeling, that after each side mission is complete you are hoping for some serious CAS vehicle to spawn? Well, you can stop hoping now becouse i have some Do It Yourself solution always available to you!

I present you my genious invention which i call Flying Offroad Ordonance Dispenser (FOOD for shorts ).

Step1: Get on teamspeak or form a squad to facilitate communications.
Step2: Increase your view distance in vehicle (so you can engage and lock far targets).
Step3: Take two (crazy) AT guys and loads of AT and AA missiles, which you shove in the trunk of an offroad.
Step4: Soar in the sky and rain down AT missiles from safe distance.

To be able to stand in the back with launcher ready to shoot i need to uneguip all weapons exept T-launcher, select turn out from action menu and then press "3".

I think what I'm getting from the thread is that - no main rotor = brick - which is why he reworded it to Engine power...

If you have no main rotor you cannot auto-rotate as there is no rotor....

What you're describing is not "basic transport flying". If you're getting shot at, it's not "basic". Does that clear up any discrepancies?

Also, I've gotta say I simply won't believe that you've transitioned a helicopter from normal flight into a survivable landing after a catastrophic main rotor loss.
At that point, you're falling like a brick, and you will have zero translation control.
If you wanna make that claim, back it up with a video so I can find out what glitch you were experiencing

I have had many fun times on eu3 from fun things like this:
To full missions that I didnt get recorded, one I remember was ryko as asl me and shadow as FTL the teamwork we had that day was amazing and having a laugh at the same time it was the relaxed serious gameplay and had tonnes of laughs in and a successful mission. I remember it well because I was going to post it and highlight the effectiveness of our comms to each other.

Really quick announcement that tomorrow, Friday [18/07/16] from 5PM local UK time (Click here for conversion to your local time) there will be normal gauntlet but with myself online as a Zeus operator. There will be sub objectives alongside normal gauntlet missions. No special sign up, no special mod requirements, just the normal EU3 repo stuff. Have fun, work together, and try some slots you maybe haven't used before. This is something I am hoping to do more regularly depending on feedback from it.

That sort of thing happened to me, me and Johnson were in a Littlebird doing Recon and I got headshot while flying in a loiter at 600m, Johnson was AFK at the time and when he got back he found that the chopper, on it's own, had slowly circled down towards the ground, hit a telephone pole, flipped and was hanging on its side on a house in Zargabad. Luck? No, just after death skill.

Lack of knowledge of the systems is why we're trying to do training sessions. I honestly wish the majority of our playerbase would research and practice some of these systems and weapons on their own, and that also ties into why I haven't been making training happen earlier.

I remember a time when I could expect that people coming on #3 had taken a little time to familiarize themselves with the AT in use, and having read a little about how ACE and ACRE works. This is no longer my experience, and hasn't been for a long time. There's an initial investment on the part of players that isn't happening anymore.

As for giving people time to get their gear, ok, but I will still maintain that there is a time and place. I don't expect everyone to be like me, able to grab their kit in 3 seconds flat, but it shouldn't take you 5 minutes either. That said, this is not as much of an issue as it used to be, and I generally only see it with people who are late to the party, but still want their favorite helmet/uniform/vest. Sometimes I offer to load a kit and drop it for them, and on rare occasions, the offer is accepted.

Really, I don't personally care what "the community" wants. "The community" will want different things each month. I care what the people creating and maintaining #3 want. I didn't like everything Ryko did, and I didn't like everything that was done before his work. I've stuck around because, despite things not being as I would want them, they were similar enough that I could roll with the flow.

A long time ago, at the last EU#3-specific community meeting, I posed a question, wherein I essentially stated the above, but I never really got an answer. Without wanting to place blame, I believe that plays a part in why we're in this position now. We've essentially been escalating to this situation for about a year, with groups of players having a different interpretation of what #3 is about.

It's previously been stated, I think it was by Josh and some others if I recall, that there was a point at which many of the "senior" players left. After that, we've had a large influx of new players, some of whom simply haven't had the chance to be "groomed" because there were insufficient "groomers" around at the time. This has been a growing problem, which, I believe, has lead to our current situation.

Without guidance from above, this rift will not heal. We have groups in the playerbase that are hard-pressed to coexist, because their enjoyment of ArmA involves largely mutually-exclusive playstyles and levels of investment.

I'm personally very sad to see Ryko get pushed to a point of stopping Gauntlet development. Needless to say, I don't know what's gone down behind the scenes, what his mandate was, whether he overstepped it or not, but; to my knowledge everyone was very, very happy right up until the point where two changes were made, one of which I personally loved to bits.

I find it entirely unbelievable that this, after days of implementation, could cause so large a shitstorm. I don't believe these two changes were given a fair shot, and to be perfectly blunt, I don't believe much stock should be put in a poll. If people don't care enough to post a response, they might as well be voting on a knee-jerk reaction to change, necessary or not.

I'm sure I'll have more to say, but I'll leave it at this for now.
