    @SiegeSixput it perfectly.

It is difficult for an ArmA community to bounce back nowadays. AW used to be insanely popular because it truly used to be one of a kind, however nowadays there's dime a dozen servers that do what AW does and I wouldn't think it would be disrespectful to say that they also do it better just due to how AW has fizzled out.

I'm sure you could still manage to muster players to play on some of the servers, there may be potential for the occasional gamenight provided the community comes together for it. I'm not sure how many folk still hang around to play regularly but surely there's gotta be some otherwise AW would've ceased to exist.

You're a guy after my own heart, I wanted nothing more than AW to flourish for the longest time, I think so many of us owe so much of ourselves to this community. The friends and memories made along the way, for better or worse.

I hate to say it but if it is player numbers and perhaps a more active development you are looking for, there are other places. But the camaraderie of AW can be found nowhere else and I think that special quality will keep dragging you back.

If you want to try and promote the server and organize more active development in AW, I would say go for it. The Staff I am sure should be all for it. I'm sure there's still devs here who may wish to reinvent the wheel and try and push for that AW uniqueness again or just perhaps ensure a stable platform is maintained. Just be aware that as per my introduction, it is increasingly difficult these days for an ArmA community to bounce back.

As you say in your later post. There are many improvements on the table. When AW was competing with its main rivals, a certain JSOC that favors the number's 7. It was like a 1950's Nuclear Arms Race. However the stagnation has left the competition far ahead and for reasons such as that, their servers are absolutely packed 24/7. I'm sure there's ideas to be borrowed from theirs though.

It's lovely to see a bit of optimism. Whatever happens, it's nice to see the history of AW goes on. I would hate for the name to fizzle out as well.

Well, thanks for mentioning and not forgetting about me. I did more or less a silent quitting. I also stopped completely with gaming.
I dont regret being a part of this community and sort of happy i saved it from completely disappearing completely, it was really close of being gone completely and was in a really bad shape back then.

Im married now, have 2 kids young kids, retired from work on my 40th. Spending time on/with my family and new hobbies like travelling, skydiving and racing. Voulunteer firefighter, got CLS training in the MARCH and PAWS protocol and got certified for it, currently busy with many small projects but mostly spending time with my wonderfull wife and kids... really happy now.

The only person im still in contact with is Mark T.

So disclaimer before we start… This is the opinion of an asshole, an opinion no more no less, it is one that is based on my experiences and perception which will differ from your own, difference of opinion is good.

Most of my experience is in the role of Rifleman (AT) – R(AT).  As such I’ll keep my comments primarily within that area of experience.

    Indirect Nerf:
Weapon sway is what I would call an indirect nerf, in that, yes, it is affecting everyone but some classes will be affected more than others by any changes to it.  This is mostly seen in classes where heavier loadouts are required, for example Rifleman AT – R(AT).

I am also aware that this is stamina entwined so to be clear this isn’t about tweaking stamina rather mitigating the effect (weapon sway) of the stamina settings on the player.  Something which I believe we can do rather easily (open to correction) as opposed to changing how stamina works.

    Impact on R(AT):
Typically I run a R(AT)/R(AA) loadout working out of a hunter… that being a base loadout with one of each launcher and missiles in the hunter that I can swap out as needed.  The tactic being set up on the downslope of a hill, blast the armour and aircraft, switching out launchers as needed then move in and clear as a standard rifleman with the hunter doing all the heavy lifting (carrying).

The problem I have is in the distance (5-10m) it takes me to walk to the top of the hill with a launcher and 1 more missile I’m at 50ish% stamina.  The weapon sway kicks in and I’m sat there for anywhere up to 2 minutes (yes I’ve timed) waiting for the sight to settle so I can guide the missile to target.

The reason you have to guide is the AI will use counter measures if you lock on so in order to be effective in that role you have to manually guide, which the AI won’t launch countermeasures on as it doesn’t receive a lock on warning.

    Previously Tried Solutions:
I can confirm, having tested, that running a loadout of 5 FAK in the uniform, 6x 5.56 mags and an empty kitbag does not make any marginal difference in the weapon sway settling to my normal loadout.

I’ve also tried running single missiles back and forth, if you jog or sprint to the hill it is a similar ‘weapon sway cooldown’ before you can actually guide the missile in.  Which means you have to walk, then you’re looking at 60-90 seconds of wait to reduce sway to hit an armoured target at 800(ish)m.

For me personally, losing time on target running back and forth and waiting for sway to settle isn’t as efficient as just bringing two missiles up and firing.  Weapon sway seemingly is less between shots which means reduced wait on sway settle.

The issue for R(AT) is not base loadout weight, as we have to take missiles to shoot which increases our weight as titans are heavy and immediately easts into stamina.

This results in dead time for the role, and makes vehicles infinitely more suited to the role of AT work, nullifying that role somewhat (somewhere in the distance TheScar is laughing).

    Other Roles:
I have less limited experience with SAW but can say that it is noticeable with the bigger boy rounds (SPMG), although the issue of compulsory ammunition (i.e. ammunition for the role specific weapon) is still there however the issue is mitigated by the ability to bipod or weapon rest, something not applicable to the launchers.

To confirm I have tried it with the 5.56 Minimi (LMG I think is the name), Negev (Zafir) and the SPMG.  All had the same loadout (bipod, laser pointer and ACOG) and 600 rounds.

As a rifleman I just don’t bother engaging beyond a certain range (300ish) unless I can bipod and even at close range I’ll drop to a walk weapon raised to minimise sway (yes I know part of that is the movement but walking reduces stamina consumption = less weapon sway).

    Conclusion:
Hence above, my term indirect nerf, in that it disproportionately affects roles where compulsory ammunition is heavy.  I think it does need to be changed to reduce downtime between pew pew for AT, and from the sounds of it for standard infantry too during short bursts of speed from cover to cover.

    Solutions:
I think the solution proposed by Gambit is the best, we release a new aiming coefficient let people try and see what happens until we get one the community agrees on (or hates the least).

Personally some sway is good, but my preference is to the lower end of middle so it will only really affect the character if you are really exerting and pushing your stamina, in that stamina management is still a factor and the intent of the mechanic is kept in the game rather than removing it completely.

I was just simply stating my thoughts. This comes from hours and hours running around with a Cyrus, a heavy weapon with terrible sway. I cut my teeth on EU1 and like I said in the meeting I learnt with the sway and am used to it and compensate accordingly.

River your comments are quite combative and rude. People are welcome to their opinions on this but ultimately whatever choice Core Staff makes is fine as I trust they have community interests at heart.

I think this is a case of “my opinion is the right opinion”.

At the end of the day it is a game on a server run by volunteers. Remember that when issues like this are raised. I have been guilty of this myself and it does help to just take a step back and regain perspective.

I stand by my original perspective that changing this means spoonfeeding players, making the game easier to play. The knock-on effect is players will get bored more easily which could lead to higher player turnover and / or more trolling.

Conversely, if you do reduce sway, them the AI difficulty should be tweaked to balance this. Just my opinion on this. Pls no hate.

Not sure of the scope for this, having access to an AAR would be pretty cool. Not sure if it would be applicable to a 24/7 server but for gamenights it could be awesome.

I will look at the requirements of this over the weekend and determine if it is even feasible for us to include.
If that is a yes then it will be included in upcoming modlist review for AWE.

I will update here when I have more info

    Hello everyone.
I am not entirely sure if this is the correct place to put this, as its not a mod request per se, but I have been watching Dslyecxi's videos lately and the AAR reports are absolutely fantastic.
You can see an example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CC9gmF2re0
I've been searching around, but it seems that shacktacs's AAR mod is private and not accessible to the public.

Would it be possible to create a similar system for AWE? I realize that its probably not doable for Frontlines/I&A (although it would be absolutely awesome), but I think we could learn a lot from our gamenights by using it.
Even if we dont get the fancy 3D graphics, having a tool like this: https://github.com/OCAP2/OCAP might do the job almost as well, although we lose altitude info from air assets.
OCAP2 also supports a website, so it can be publicly accessible.

Anyways, I know we have some fantastic dev's, so you guys would have to comment on the feasability of this.

It would also have to be tested for performance impact and stability of course.

    What does everyone think?
Would you be interested in sitting down and having a look back at what happened?
I think at least for me, when squad leading, it would be a fantastic tool for learning.

The way this thread is going is grand. That's something to appreciate.

From what I read, a good part of the dissatisfaction about the unit stemmed from the mission makers for the drop in AW players. I understand that and I think I can relate to the feelings involved.
To slowly lead that into a suggestion, I would mention that I didn't play those missions because the themes didn't interest me. Vietnam is not my cup of tea, but I played a couple for the banter. Star Wars was three standard deviations removed from what I like, as was Halo. About Star Wars, at least, I let Siege know after a TS poke that it wasn't for me. I think a similar thing held true for other players, in that it just wasn't their interest.

So my suggestion is to have regular polls and meetings. Have polls to gauge interests in future campaign ideas. If you are satisfied with the responses even if small, everyone involved can set their expectations correctly. If you're not, lead that into a discussion about why the interest is low and be open-minded to drop or adjust the idea.

Similarly, in particular for staff, have regular meetings. Monthly.
Most people avoid confrontation. That's natural and probably relatable. To foster constructive confrontations, the absolute best you can do is to foster a safe, supported platform for communication. Allow members of staff, perhaps even Vet-FA, to submit points for an agenda prior to the meeting, then go through them. If there's nothing, grand, you've spent a few minutes to leave the meeting in the knowledge that you're right as rain.

In the vein of safe communication, foster good feedback philosophy. The gamenight debriefs are once again a marvellous illustration of that, but it can go further: Praise in public, criticise in private. People experienced in HR are rolling their eyes now.
Over the years, I have been told that I don't look like staff, that I'm too nice. Good! That means you haven't been invited to a private chat by me.
The rules only allow for so much direct action. You have your hackers and your teamkillers, but situations like the topic at hand are not rare, as uncomfortable as they are. The elephant in the room was difficult to navigate around, so I can wager it was easier to stay in one corner with the people already there.

Artemis noted that the division was apparent long ago. Sadly, it wasn't to me. I was frustrated with some AWE decisions, which I aired, and I just reckoned that some animosity from the sidelines stemmed from a disagreement about creative directions. There was some pushback to an unconventional gamenight idea, plus the minor squabble about event sign-ups.

The rest of it, the real of it, was not once brought to my attention besides a salient question by a dev in #mission-makers about using Discord Rich Presence of our own.

A meeting could have cleared this up many months ago. What's done is done, but just perhaps that's something to take forward.

Yesterday was the first I heard of this, so I dont have all the facts and all of that.
I've been trying to comment on this since yesterday, but I find it really difficult and I don't know what to say.
It kinda feels like i'm the child of some messy divorce

That being said, its important to me that AhoyWorld is an open community where you are free to roam between here and other places, even as staff.
No one can force anyone to stay here.
As long as you are doing your job as staff here as well as expected of you, then you can do whatever you want wherever you want as long as you are not representing AW.
Whether you can take on staff roles at other places aswell, might be a different story, but I don't think that has happened here?

I would also like to say that no one can blame the one making the report.
A report is simply saying that "Hello, there is something here I think you should have a look at. Here is what I see, do what you would like with this information".
It's then up to the ones who receive this report to decide what to do with it and how to deal with it.

I cannot say anything about how the case was handled, as I first learned of it yesterday.
What I will say is that I think there should be a full postmortem with a blameless root cause analysis where you go over why this happened, why the outcome became as it did (And what the outcome is, I don't feel like this has fully played out yet), and what we should do to prevent this in the future.
This has to be led by corestaff (Or a mediator, but they would need full access to the report and all the closed forums involved in this).
It would also have to include the reporter, the one being reported on, all the corestaff and anyone who decided to step down and leave, in order to get the full picture.

I would like to challenge all the involved party members to participate in this as it will help not only AW grow, but the whole arma community. (It might also be good for all the parties to get to talk together with everyone having good intentions)

Lastly, I would like to say that while this sucks, there are a lot of people here showing a lot of emotions, which tells me one thing:
WE ALL CARE DEEPLY FOR AHOYWORLD!
We might not always agree on the path we should take or how to get there, but in the end, I see a whole lot of people that care a lot and that is good.
It also means that tempers flare sometimes and feelings get the upper hand.
We are all humans, we all make mistakes, including staff.
