    General Info

This mission is a multi session operation or MSO for short.
If you played MSO in A2 you will know what the general idea is, if not: MSO is a mission that is designed to take multiple sessions to complete.
How multiple session is handled is that after each event I hold, the server\mission state gets saved to a database.
Loadouts etc. per class are set in stone and kept realistic within what the game can do and what is not a impractical in terms of gameplay.

    Mission

The new mission is set in Afghanistan and we are playing as recon marines, it is a COIN operation(Counter Insurgency Operation) which the ALiVE mod is going to handle most of the AI and actions where as I will throw in some RP\Small missions when I feel like it would benefit the game.
I am still toying with the idea of if its going to be like past events where the server is left up untill the campaign is finished, or if its going to be a weekend based event untill the campaign is completed.

A more thorough briefing etc. is gonna be penned up when i finish of the mission in the next week so when we are ready to kick things off you will have a better understanding of what the campaign is about.

I believe with limitations, we get a broader horizon of gameplay as we get to be limited by the very limitations certain militaries get.

This not only enforces better teamwork, the core point of EU3 since I personally witnessed its birth, but also brings about new gameplay that is engaging and exciting compared to having everyone thrown at you at once, which would quickly make the server become stale which is exactly what happened in the first place.

Learning from our mistakes is paramount.

The server should not cater to everyone, but more rather specific individuals that see the benefits of teamwork over casual gameplay where they can do as they please. For example, 77th JSOC cater to specific people yet both of their servers alone see more activity than AhoyWorld, something that was actually really rare back when there was more of a sense of competition between the two.

EU3, or AhoyWorld Enhanced, does not exist right now. So, as a result, we should be able to make it anyway we like. There is no "preset" measure of what the "server is". So, this is a great time to start fresh and get it right this time! Alongside quite a few others, I personally see that making a stricter area that caters to specific players would do much better than a casual environment.

Dare I say, that numbers do not mean community. Just because a server has more people playing does not mean you have a community, it just means you have players on the server, many of whom do not care about said community. Look at EU1 for example.

It's important to build that community we once had back up, I felt deeply disheartened to see what the server was becoming over the years and seeing how we needed to cut the Teamspeak shorter, the AhoyWorld Forums were hardly getting used and the Discord/Telegram is mainly catering to a specific few individuals rather than a large scale community discussion.

MSO was something myself and a few others built, a server to cater to specific individuals rather than anyone, and still that server did really well and dare I say that the community there was larger than that of AWE in its final days. That is actually quite sad.

Make AhoyWorld Enhanced a community server, not a modded EU1. I, among others, would be sad to see something become unoriginal from which was once incredibly original.

Hopefully this post makes a difference, polls amongst literally anything else that happens here seems to be a sensitive matter, which is a shame. I would like to see the community come together. I'm not saying that by making this server cater to specific people that only specific people can join, I'm saying that these people should adopt a specific mindset. Again, having literally everything for free will get boring and the server goes from teamwork to playing for themselves, which is what happened with EU1. For example, people have the freedom to fill up car full of AT and depart on their own, there is no teamwork in this and therefore would no be a fit environment for AWE. Instead, people should be limited as to what they are able to do, so that people are forced to play together and act as a team. Teamwork breeds Cameraderie, Cameraderie breeds Community.

    Operation: Molten Avalanche
Operational briefing, only for class-3 clearance and above.

    Situation
It has been 72 hours since the last contact with the NATO base on Malden was made, so far nothing has come through our encrypted channels. It is safe to assume the base has either been destroyed or the island is experiencing electronic interference. Satellites have observed a spike in nuclear radiation as a spike in unknown chemical compounds on Malden. Imaging has also shown a complete lack of any and all civilian activity in any of the towns surrounding the airfield, making this an even stranger situation.

The recommended course of action: Observe and continue attempts to re-establish contact with ground forces

    The mission
Play as either NATO or CSAT set in the aftermath of an island-wide experiment apparently conducted by CSAT, killing all civilian population and almost all the staff of the NATO airbase on the island. Fight either as the remaining NATO operatives to escape the island and re-establish contact with NATO command or as the CSAT teams that have been deployed to make sure nobody gets out alive. Each side has its own advantages that can be either circumvented or turned against them in this war of attrition where every bullet and death has an impact that will echo throughout the mission.

    Objectives
    NATO
Escape Malden by any means necessary Destroy the AA battery on the airfield preventing air assets from being used Destroy any compromised NATO assets CSAT
Search and destroy NATO operatives active on Malden Ensure the safety of AA battery to keep NATO on the ground
    Practical info
The mission itself has additional mission details that could aid in your mission, make sure to read them if you have time. Every side has limited ammunition and no respawns are possible. Operation time: 03:30+- local time Weather forecast: Heavy winds and rain approaching, possible thunderstorms as well Whilst the airfield would be the main avenue of escape, additional escape routes are possible. ZEUS will be active and will monitor the mission, possibly interfering if a stalemate occurs Forecasted mission length: 30 to 45 minutes, may take longer. Victory for either side and completion of side objectives have a direct and noticeable impact on future missions in the Armageddon campaign
    Rules of Engagement
    NATO
All assets and infantry belonging to CSAT are deemed enemy and can be fired upon All NATO/AAF assets are not to be engaged unless mission specifies otherwise CSAT
All NATO infantry is to be engaged on sight All NATO/AAF assets are to be left alone unless a NATO operative is actively piloting them Compromised equipment is to be either recovered or destroyed
    Event Information
    NATO slots: 4
    CSAT slots: 12
If you have APEX DLC, please choose that option if signing up for CSAT, as it is required for some slots.  If those slots are filled, you will still be eligible to be placed in normal CSAT roles.

Version 059 is now in internal testing.  Change log:

    059
    ---
    NEW
    1. Added mission persistence and set to ON by default. When server restarts, completed AOs / player rewards are loaded from persistent save.
    2. Added smoke screen deployment option to heavy air trans vehicles (Ghosthawk, Huron, Blackfish level vehicles). It is a action menu item (similar to the deploy ammo box) and will be available when the vehicle is going less than 40 km/h and more than 400m away from base. You have one charge, which can be reloaded at Air service or helipads.
    3. Added Artillery Smoke reward (1000 points).
    4. Added Button in rewards menu to show/hide vehicles, weapons and gear that the player is restricted from purchasing due to their role. Useful to let you purchase a non-role vehicle, then activate the related squad.

    FIXES
    1. Turret toggling in Ghosthawk
    2. UAV secondary mission
    3. Further fixes to prevent players having access to prohibited gear via the arsenal
    4. Players can no longer donate fractions of reward points (trying to donate 10.7 points will cause you do donate 10 points)
    5. Inventory may no longer randomly close (cleanUp function was deleting player's virtual inventory item) (still working on this)
    6. Empty reward vehicles show up on map.
    7. Skills assignment to OPFOR AI
    8. Attempt to stop AI from spawning in rocks
    9. Reinforcement troops added to composition of enemy, changes win condition and cleanup activities
    10. Ammo drop reward wasn't spawning correctly.
    11. Notifications for when player is incapacitated or killed.

    TWEAKS
    1. Tweaks to rescue civilians mission.
    2. Tweaks to ambient AI spawn placement.
    3. Tweaks to garbage cleanup script.
    4. Tweaks to enemy awareness scripting.
    5. Tweaks to UAV respawning.
    6. Tweaks to respawn loadouts. If you have a loadout saved from the arsenal, you won't get the default loadout for your role on respawn.
    7. Tweak to map markers: empty vehicles show as dark yellow instead of yellow.
    8. Tweak to ammo depot, repair depot and command+control sub objectives:
8A. Destroying the objective will no longer despawn nearby friendly vehicles (whoops!).
8B. Tweaked how holdAction charges are set (only one player at a time can set charges, you can't set them more than once, and a notification will spam to nearby players when the charges are set).
8C. Tweaked how they are spawned, trying not to spawn them directly on roads.
    9. Tweak to enemy reinforcement notification (shortened text to fit in notification box).
    10. Tweak to artillery reward - will now only give one 'splash' report before barrage begins.
    11. Tweak to enemy mortar sub objective, and determining how that task completes.
    12. Tweak to custom vault action. Fixed for when 'v' key is used in vehicles, should resort to default behaviour.
    13. Removed enemy counter attack from secondary missions, not super interesting, win conditions were difficult and in general it was just misbehaving.
    14. Tweak: NATO now has advanced MAAWS, AAF has basic MAAWS (was reversed, thanks Bohemia for confusing class names)
    15. Tweak to revive, trying to fix bug which puts you in medical animation even while you are incapacitated
    16. Tweak to player name tags: name and tag are now place at chest level and responds to player stance position.
    17. Tweaked how map markers are updated and communicated to players.
    18. Reward menu (gear) now only propogates items that attach to weapons you have in your inventory.
    19. Removed Shelldrake (Mortars) squad - t'was problematic in a few ways.
    20. If you are in an air group where no vehicles are available for that group, you will be kicked from that group (VIPER, REAPER and TALON)
    21. Commander cannot kick players from slots in layer configured for pub play (default)
    22. Talon (CAP) vehicles can no longer mount air-to-ground ordinance, but are restricted to air to air and anit-radiation missiles.
    23. Tweaks to heavy asset respawn times (slightly longer).
    24. Slight buff to skill level for the following enemy AI: Anti-air soldier, Pilots, Crew, Squad Leader, Team Leader.
    25. Added 5.56mm magazines to NATO/NATO pacific faction ammo boxes.
  14. Thanks

Mark T reacted to Ryko in I&A 4 - how to handle CAS air vehicles?
So we had a great staff discussion on CAS vehicles in I&A yesterday, thanks to all who participated in that.  We have some ideas on future directions.

First though, a couple of points.
    1) Staff policing the mis-steps taken by CAS is a sizeable amount of what EU1 admins do (essentially, reminding players that they need to be called in, that they can't go weapons-free on an AO, etc).
    2) A general concensus that this is a fluid issue that's not going to be solved through code.

With this in mind, my suggestion in terms of how to proceed is looking like this:

A ) Split out the anti-air planes (Black Wasp for NATO, Shikra for CSAT, Griffon for AAF) into their own asset group (Talon?).
    Rationale:
    1) Right now there is only one role in a 64-person server that's eligible to fly planes, and there is a wait for that role.  Especially as the role has access to two planes (if you die in the Wipeout, nothing to stop you from just up and flying the Black Wasp).
    2) Plane respawn timer should act as a disincentive to stay in the role, rather, should cycle the player out into a new group unless a new vehicle is purchased with reward points.
    3) Enemy air is now a frequent threat, having a dedicated CAP resource is probably a good thing as players are not flocking to the rifleman anti-air slot.

B ) Add confirmation boxes when taking non-infantry roles.
Method: when you attempt to take a slot like Vortex, Viper, Reaper, you are presented with a series of informational confirmation boxes you have to click on.
    Rationale:
    1) Presents the players with the server rules, so they understand what they are getting into. For example, present them with confirmations that they must wait requests for CAS support, that they can't attack unrequested targets.
    2) Means that when staff warns / kicks players for abusing CAS, there is no defence that they didn't know server rules.
    3) Yes, players can just click-click-click through the boxes, but having them there might actually educate players.

Regarding other suggestions made in this thread:
    * Application systems for slots: the problem with this approach is that Ahoyworld's philosophy towards joining our servers is that all slots should be available for all players without restriction, so an application system works against this.
    * Reward points for role - kind of smells a bit like whitelisting, plus there are ways to game the system (begging for donations) that don't actually solve the problem. Plus it would probably mean you have to play in a role you don't like before playing in a role you do, which is also against the philosophy.

Not finalized yet though, please discuss.

Mark T reacted to Ryko in Vortex Ts3 or Discord
    Hi RoyalKings,

Right now there is no requirement for Vortex pilots to be on Teamspeak, though it is recommended.  On the EU1 public server, it's not really possible to make it mandatory that everyone use voice comms, so people really have to do the best they can to coordinate through the communication problems that exist in a public server:
    - some players don't speak English
    - some players don't want to, or know how to use voice or text communication
    - some players will use Teamspeak, others will use in-game voice comms.

So in a sense it's almost better to insist that players use one form of communication and stick with it; Teamspeak is convenient and offers marginally better voice comms than in-game, but that's not consistently the case anymore.

IA4 makes no specific provision for voice comms or communication, other than we don't allow voice comms on sideChat any more.  The intention on the EU1 server will be to keep it as open-ended as possible: if people want to chat their comms, or use the in-game voice, or use teamspeak, all those options are available. For other servers, we may make specific communication forms more mandatory.

Happy new year to you all, I hope you had a fantastic festive period and look forward to the challenges that 2019 will bring.

I must admit I have not been very active with the community the past few weeks as understandably it's a busy period, so I would like to thank the rest of the Team for their hard work during my absent. (sshh Xwatt)

I see you've all been made aware of Chucks situation and I for one will be sad to see him go but also happy for him to get a life
so I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chuck for his dedication to the community and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.

As you've guessed correctly Xwatt will be taking over Chucks role of Public server manager (Core Staff) he will be responsible for the likes of EU#1#2#7 and TeamSpeak, so any issues or updates that needs doing you'll have to consult with him.
Lindi has now been promoted to Admin T2 for taking the responsibilities of the Spartan Lead Project, he will supervise the team, handle recruitments and organise game nights.
JANXOL we now be responsible for the XMLs, any questions or issues goes directly to him.
I hope you all join me in welcoming them to their new role and be patient with them as you were with me.

    Donators!
A few months back we were in a very dire situation in fact if nothing had changed we would probably not be here right now but thanks to you guys, we are and not only that, we are in a very healthy position for 2019. So I would like to thank you all for your support.

Again thank you all and happy new year!
