LH5 reacted to SkullCollector in [AWE] Liberation Wednesday -- NEXT: 22/07/2020 @ 1730 UTC
Mission Summary
Every Wednesday, we turn a regular bout of Liberation around to show off what we can do when we put our minds to it.
Joining this, you can expect a solid experience with high emphasis on teamwork and structure, with an established Chain of Command formed before the mission and staff supporting it all.
These are the days when we push for harder objectives or complex operations in combined arms, or try things we normally would not.
Modset Required
AW Liberation Lythium.html
For first-time players, read till the end for a setup guide.
Mission Runtime
Roughly 2 hours until endex and a quick debrief, followed by a chance to carry on open-ended

Situation
A Russian combined-arms counter-insurgency task force has been deployed to the mountainous region of Lythium to deter and squash a local uprising. The insurgents have captured every town and base in the area of operations and are therefore overly well armed, including an armoured corps and jets from the military airfields. They are supplemented by outdated surplus.
Friendly forces have established a foothold near Karift and created a buffer zone around it.
Mission
Clear the region of insurgent forces. Capture strategic objectives. Establish favourable relations with the local populace.
Objective
TBD by Acting Command every Wednesday
Platoon
1x 3-man HQ (CMD, RTO, UAV)

2x 2-man Air Crew
1x 3-man Hammer Crew
1x 3-man Logistics

Reinforcements
- Unlimited
- Mobile respawns at CMD's discretion (cooldown after use)
- Re-insertions via air at RTO's discretion
Equipment
- Vehicle deployment at CMD's discretion

Command & Control
Operations and ground control lie solely with the platoon commander. RTO handles air traffic and can supplement comms.
Squad leaders are responsible for the operational effectiveness of their teams.

Ridiculous = how many?
I don’t see much on that when I’m on as those that abuse the ammo truck with statics either get asked to stop or get balanced by Zeus’s. Also to add to that statics have been in the arsenal for all for as long as I can remember. (Not as long as you can remember I’m sure @TheScar 😂)
Medic with Titans is indeed an issue the way you have described it. If my memory serves me right I remember an admin ping from you about the guy stealing the Titan, did not get a yell back from you so assumed you got it back
Going to have to mess with the titans and roles myself and see how far I can take it.

LH5 reacted to Xwatt in Liberation Wednesday - 15/07/2020 @ 17:30 UTC
What is Liberation Wednesday?
Liberation Wednesday will be an event ran weekly, in a gamenight format, with a formal, established chain of command and greater player numbers. For the fossils in our community, you may remember Stilleto Wednesdays, and here we are replicating that experience, but instead in the liberation format and following our gamenight etiquette. AWE will still remain open 24/7, but you can expect a more serious, teamwork focused, command orientated experience every Wednesday. We will be kicking off the first week of Liberation Wednesday with the introduction of Lythium.

TEAMSPEAK MISSION BRIEFING FOR ALL PLAYERS WILL BEGIN AT 17.30 UTC
Expected Mission Length: 120+ minutes (may go over or under expected mission length)
Player Slots: 35 (5 Teams of 6, command and vortex )
Situation
Finland has suffered a number of seemingly "home grown" terror attacks in recent months. There is also an increasing amount of nationalist sentiment in the area stemming from a group known as the Suomen vapautusrintama or Finnish Liberation Front (FLF). They have been preaching the standard anti EU/anti immigrant rhetoric which has seen them gain followers who share their ideals.
They FLF have used this momentum to stage anti government protests, many of which turned violent. It is believed that an extremist militant group is either pulling the strings or has infiltrated the FLF.
The Finnish government are hesitant to deploy their armed forces within their own territory, as this could be seen as an escalation in a time when reconciliation is needed. As such they have contracted the Combat Hounds a less overt force to help in both proving security and investigating the militant activity related to the FLF. We have been granted the rights to carry weapons and to fly our unmarked aircraft within Finnish territory but the Finnish government has stopped short of allowing the Combat Hounds to execute CAS missions in domestic soil.

There is also the site of a recent attack where we can hopefully gain insight into their tactics.
Execution
Objectives:
1. Meet with the Finnish COIN forces and learn what they know about the FLF
2. Inspect the site of the recent attack for any clues into FLF tactics or activities
3. Act against any militant activity you discover
4. Increase security and protect civilian life wherever possible

The Horizon islands are in turmoil. Shortly after gaining it's independence from France the newly formed government collapsed and a the territory is now effectively split in to 3 pieces. The northern island of Tuvanaka along with most of the main island of Tanoa is controlled by a group known as the Horizon Islands Defence Force (H.I.D.F.), their goal is to rid the archipelago of all non natives and have been brutal in their application of this principal. The East side of Tanoa is held by a guerrilla force who hold an unsteady peace with H.I.D.F. they are focused on the growth and export of certain narcotics. The H.I.D.F. seem to have little interest in the guerrilla forces as long as they do not interfere with the mining of heavy metals which is what has sustained the local economy since it's discovery.
Following allegations of crimes against humanity, and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region, the UN Security Council passed a resolution for a Chapter 7 Peace Enforcement Operation. Mission d'assistance des Nations Unies pour Tanoa (MANUT) is tasked with protecting the civilian populace and prevention of atrocities. At its head is a British detachment.
Not long into the mission a British patrol is ambushed and taken prisoner, the H.I.D.F. aims to use the prisoners as bargaining chips in future negotiations. Expected Mission Length: 120+ minutes (may go over or under expected mission length)
Player Slots: 30 (4 Teams of 6, command, Phoenix Medivac and vortex )
Situation
It seems that we may have stumbled on a larger plot when we discovered the military forces aiding the insurgents in the area. Once this information was passed up the channels it seemed to set off alarm bells somewhere. Within days a large scale military coup erupted and is engulfing the entire province. Insurrectionist forces have captured the city of Kunduz and the international airport there. Intel suggest that this coup was a long time in the making and that us stumbling upon the military aid to the insurgents has forced their hand and escalated their timeline.
US forces along with loyalist military elements are attempting to retake the Northern province but are being hampered by enemy activity in our area. The insurrectionists have deployed AA and artillery positions somewhere in our AO. This has effectively cut off the US air route from their FOB in the South to Kunduz city in the North.
As a result we are seeing increased insurgent activity in the area along with active military patrols.
We have received a very lucrative contract to destroy both the AA and the arty positions. We can also claim bounties on any equipment or men captured/destroyed. From what we have learned the insurrectionist forces have access to a large number of military grade vehicles and static weapons. However, one small mercy is that the presence of US air superiority fighters has meant that the enemy have not been able to field any aircraft despite having many at their disposal.
We have also been assured that no loyalist military forces are in our area and that all uniformed military personnel are hostile.

We are to find and destroy enemy AA positions in order to open up the skies for US forces in their assault against the Northern city of Kunduz. As a secondary target we have been made aware of rocket artillery pieces being used in the area, if possible we are to also destroy/capture these.
Execution

Find and destroy the enemy AA presence
Capture/Destroy any rocket artillery

LH5 got a reaction from RiverWolf in How to install TFAR and the teamspeak Addon
Step 1: First you will need to subscribe to Task Force Arrowhead Radio (BETA!!!) on the steam workshop (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=894678801)
You will also need to subscribe to the required mod CBA_A3 for TFAR to work.
Step 2: open the Arma 3 launcher and go to the MOD category
Step 3: time to load the TS addon so TFAR works in game, to do this go over to the Task Force Arrowhead Radio (BETA!!!) under available mods and click on the drop-down arrow.
Once you have clicked on the drop-down arrow it should look like this, now go to the Display more options button.
Now open folder in Windows Explorer.
Be sure to follow the warning.
Once you have opened Windows Explorer locate the folder named @Task Force Arrowhead Radio (BETA!!!) and open it.
Now that you are in the TFAR folder open the teamspeak folder.
Now double left click on the task_force_radio TeamSpeak Add-On, once you have done this a window looking like this should open. Once open select install and follow the prompts. (version number will change over time)
The final prompt should be add-on installed. Do you want to activate this Add-On? Select yes and restart your teamspeak
Step 2.1: Now it’s time to check the Add-On is activated.
On teamspeak go to tools and go down to options
Once in options go to the Addons category and look for Task Force Arrowhead Radio, once located check for the box that will either say Enabled or Disabled. If disabled, click on the box that says disabled to enable it.
Congratulations you have now installed TFAR and the TS addon. (if you are referring to this guide on how to update to the latest version of the plug in all you need to do is reinstall the addon following the same steps)
Looking for a basic guide on how to use the radio's, try this:

LH5 reacted to GhostDragon in Ahoyworld server upgrades
Heya everyone,
I would like to let you know where we are currently at with the server upgrades and progressing through with the upgrade plan.
Flagship has been running on the new box for just over a month now and it is running well. The server is more stable than before and we have noticed an uptick in performance in the day to day server running.
Valiant, our second server that we host Modded operations on is now with us and i am progressing through the server setting it up to ensure it is suitably setup for the players to enjoy the full potential of our modded server. With this has been some back end code changes that will allow for us to host modded gamenights more efficiently with less man hours required to ensure they are setup correctly. As such this server should be ready for the gamenights next week.
All of us at the AhoyWorld Staff team look forward to having these new, more powerful boxes to fuel us into the release of our current projects, I&A4 and Liberation.

LH5 reacted to Jenkins in UAV lasers
This is unfortunately one of the gripes of playing on a public server, the Invade and Annex mission is designed in a way that gives players freedom to do their own thing, whether it be lone-wolfing a side objective, storming buildings at the AO with a friend or working as part of a larger team during a Zeus created mission. This is what I believe gives I&A it's charm... Teamwork is only encouraged, NOT enforced.
The only suggestion I can make is to ensure you continue to announce your presence over side channel or jump onto the Teamspeak server during the busier hours for a more likely chance of some team-play.
This issue has been discussed soo many times in the past and I personally believe that the current system for UAV operators works just fine. I've witnessed first hand how often this system can be abused when no one is around to moderate it and I'm really not a fan of it.
Lasers on the Greyhawk were removed to limit their abuse but it was eventually decided to add Darter mini-UAVs to allow operators to do their thing manually at the expense of time/speed (the time it takes to deploy the system and get into position.) Which so far, has worked out just as effective as the old system.
I'm aware of the "bug" that positions the laser off-center above the target, but as for the rest of your statement... I'd say that is down to user-error.
Example:- Here is a quick work-around for the issue you described.
- Position UAVs in a way that they are unable to become targets and get shot at. (Like hard-cover, defilade or at a distance outside effective range of the enemy)
- Wait until enemy anti-air assets are neutralized before setting up
- If all else fails, only expose the UAVs to enemy contact for a short time to reduce the likelihood of being shot-down. (Target lase from a distance, move into range, drop bombs, exfil.)
Personally, as long as I have followed any one of the three above examples I have rarely experienced any issue of losing drones apart from the occasional patrolling enemy jet and I'm sure many other regulars could join me in agreement.
Hope this helps provide some clarity and context. Additionally, once the new version of I&A4 is released this will no longer be an issue as the UAV operator role is removed entirely and replaced by a new system. But for the time being, I find the current system satisfactory.
