Colsta reacted to Mouldy in Enhanced Server Update
Hi everyone, I'm Mouldy, and I'd like to give a quick introduction for those of you who may not know much about me.

I started playing on Ahoyworld EU#3 Modded in September 2015.  It was exactly the kind of community I had been looking for: a public server with radio-environment mods, and a focus on more realistic squad-level gameplay.  In May of 2016, I was invited to become a moderator for what is now the Enhanced community, and I've been here ever since.

With introductions out of the way, Colsta has recently stepped down as AWE Team Lead, and I am excited to take over the position during this pivotal moment in AWE history.

AWE, at its core, has always emphasized teamwork, having fun, and player driven creativity.  The mods that we employ on the server are in pursuit of this idea, but recently player sentiment has shifted. Many in our community have decided that our current modset is too bloated, to the point of being almost unusable by the average player.  Of all the different kinds of people that come to play on the AWE server, everyone who has approached us has said the same thing: "We want less mods."

The Enhanced Moderators are in full agreement with the community.

We have heard your ideas, discussed some of our own, and decided on a course of action that we would like to take with the server.  These are changes that the community has asked for, and the mod team has agreed is a direction that we should pursue for AWE.

The revised modset for AWE will be trimmed down significantly in the next repo update. We are looking at the minimum requirements for our ideal AWE experience.  Mainstays like TFAR, ACE, RHS, and a few choice maps will remain. But practically everything else is going to be cut from our modset.

This will bring the repo size down to around 16GB(from 30+), which is much more palatable for prospective players, and we hope to capitalize on this with more promotion and events once these changes are live.

We would love to hear the community's feedback in regards to these proposed changes in the Enhanced subforum, please visit the official thread here.

The AWE Mod team has some more ideas that we're excited to explore, but we're not quite ready to announce anything yet!

Thank you all for choosing Ahoyworld, and our Enhanced server.

    Hi all,

    I will keep this brief,

As you've all probably noticed Piranha hasn't been around much lately, this is due to a number of reasons which I won't go into, so with a heavy heart he has decided that it would be best for the community to step down from his leadership role and hand the reins over to me.

This isn't my first rodeo, and I'm sure further down the line I may make mistakes, possibly big mistakes, and bad decisions that not many people may agree with. Nevertheless what I can bring to the table is openness, transparency and hopefully stability.

There are a few areas that I will be looking to improve on; clarity of roles, community engagement and most importantly communication within staff.

I hope that you will all back me through this difficult period and be patient with me in trying to turn this community around.

Remember, if you have any ideas/suggestions please bring them to us, we are always looking to improve.

Lastly, I would like to thank @PiranhA for his contribution and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.

Colsta reacted to Ryko in Stiletto development status: on hold.
    Hi folks,

As some of you have noticed lately, I haven't been as active on server or in development of the Stiletto mission.  Things have become busier in my life over the last few months, leading to less available time to put into Arma; coupled with the fact that Stiletto is more (or less) at a stable version, the purpose of this post is to inform you that for the foreseeable future, I won't be continuing further development of the mission.

There is a notable exception to this: on the staff level, we are envisioning an update to the mods employed on the AWE server, which will necessitate an overhaul to the vehicles available for spawning and equipment available in the arsenal.  I'll be putting forward a version 061 of Stiletto to accommodate this, but after that, I don't foresee a version 062 (except of course, when there are minor bugs to quash from 061).

What I will consider for 061 are essential mission fixes seen in 060 (if something is broken in the current version, I'll want to have it as fixed as possible). In addition, the vehicle spawning system is new, using points, and this is an opportunity to fine tune any point costs that haven't been working.  I haven't seen any feedback about that, so I'm assuming it's not causing big problems.

That said, I'm willing to allow other interested developers to extend the mission beyond 061: if you're interested in this, drop me a message.

I do hope to be able to get online again, it's just that for the next few months, I'm going to be swamped with a few projects IRL.  As I've always been the first to say to everyone else - real life has to come first.

    Thanks,

    - Ryko

Colsta reacted to ShadowAce11 in Notice of Upcoming Departure
It is with a heavy heart that I am officially announcing what will likely be my complete departure from AhoyWorld. As I have mentioned to some, I will be stepping down from the Enhanced moderator team on June 19; this will be paired with an indefinite hiatus from the community as well, though I fully intend to return when I can.

In December of 2017, I enlisted in the United States Navy, with my boot camp date set for June 20th of 2018. After boot, I will be going straight to my respective school, and will likely be deploying after that (this will easily encompass the next 3 years). I will be limiting any computer usage strictly to studying during this period.

To those members of the Enhanced realm of AhoyWorld reading this now, thank you for being my friends and family. I have tried my best to be a player, a moderator, a teacher, and a counselor; and if nothing else I hope I have succeeded in being another human being that you were always glad to talk to. I have spent a good 1,700 hours on Enhanced alone, and have seen many people come and go. Throughout the three years I've spent racking up those hours, though, my mind has never changed that both the server and AhoyWorld in general are diamonds in the rough that is the rest of the Arma 3 community. Nobody will ever be able to duplicate the truly unique things that you all share.

I will still be active up until the 19th. I am just making this notice ahead of time so that I have a proper buffer to wrap things up with, and so that I'm not rushing to get a message out right before I have to leave. You'll still see me on Enhanced as often as always, and on TeamSpeak so long as I'm awake.

    Regards,

    Shadow

It's finally here: the long-awaited rules overhaul. The team has sat down brooding over what direction we want to take from this point on and how to best typify that in a practicable format moving forward.

We hope to address the most pressing issues that arose over the years and give you ample opportunity to make AWE your own.

The result requires all of our players to wholly erase the previous rules and their enforcement procedure from their memories. Approach the following as though you’re first reading about AWE.

You will still have rules and principles to abide by, but their fundamental structure has been reviewed and overhauled. It's probably best if we don't provide you a first impression by typing out what to expect: just read it for yourself. The essence of AWE should be there for you to take in.
Just know this: Keep what you read close to heart.

    Best regards,
    The AWE Staff Team

I feel kinda weird replying here, but seeing I cannot send PMs - not sure if deliberate - and I occasionally still browse the forums to see what's going on; hope you guys don't mind.

@Stanhope after having read all the posts in this topic and deducting that a big portion of the entire argument is directed towards you and your 'wrongdoings'.
I just want to note down a few things for everyone and and give you a piece of advice, which has already been pointed out more globally by a couple of people in this thread, but never directly at the scenario I'll describe down below.
Keep in mind that we've never really met and I am doing my best to make this appropriate as possible but..

What I'm seeing is that there's people arguing that there's not enough communication, be it between CS and Admins or any other levels of the chain.
With Core Staff communication has been an issue as long as I can remember, but in-fact you should be happy; as things seem to have improved now that there was a change in leadership after the whole BACONMOP fiasco some time ago now. Keep in mind that the person -
I'll not mention his name as this is nothing personal and I've done plenty of wrong during that period myself, i.e. throwing the towel in the bucket instead of pointing out the issues more explicit.
that was in charge at that time was almost never around during workweeks as he would be removed from his home due to his job and due to how things were going back then; a lot of approval was needed from his side.

Now from what I've seen over the past couple of months is that @Ryko has been very dedicated to keeping the community alive; even when the donation counter did not even reach half of the required amount I did not see him complain. The other core staff members were not very active or just busy with their real life in general, which is nothing to be ashamed of as as Ryko has said, real life should have the right of way.

Although I'm not sure on what the activity levels of the CS at the moment is, I know from experience that both Mark T and S0zi0 were always very active, be it on Teamspeak and/or the servers, I do see the point in promoting 'Mark T', now even though at the time I was opposed. Instead of bringing a newbie admin into the fold back then, a person who would have the chance to develop and be a lot more active was brought in, perhaps is was not ment this way; but it turned out very well.

    @ EU#3 (giggle)
The Group A // Group B stuff is just unpreventable, especially with so many different people controlling the playing environment there is a lot of wiggle room between the rules and what specific people actually punish or report you for. Some people utilize this this room, others remain in accordance to the standard.

If you don't like playing with specific people, you don't fucking have to,* if they are in a squad, you don't have to join that same squad and be in their environment; join a different one and create some distance between the two of you. Same thing goes for radio channels, don't force yourself to communicate with them during game play, it will only make the irritation worse. If there - due to the rules - is no other option, you could always try and discuss how and what with the person, but don't postpone or deny the need to have this discussion in that case. < This should count for more situations than just in EU#3

    *Take this as an example:
In the past I did - depending on my mood - did not like playing with specific people; I'll take Johnson & co. as an example. (Nothing personal, good people)
On occasions I liked playing with them because it was mostly fun, other occasions I wanted to play a tad more serious so I did not like playing with them. Luckily for me, it was very easy to pick slots distancing myself as they mainly played HAT or HAMMER. At spawn it was not really a problem, there's room for fun, if you can't accept that I don't think you should be playing EU#3 at all.

@Stanhope, filing multiple reports leading to severe punishment is also pointless, try to have a conversation with them and guide them in the right direction, nurture works a lot better than teaching by punishment and should not affect their opinion of you in a negative way. Keep in mind that they all put in some effort to set up the mods etc. and they are not some plug and play idiots that don't care about the rules as there are plenty of other servers out there.
    >>-<<
Also on the matter of Teddy, he said that you did not take conversation up with him and you quoted his post, yet in your 'counterargument' you fail to give a reason of not having a conversation with him. In my opinion you shouldn't see your liaison role as a pre'91 East-German agency one, but rather being a medium to express the concerns your subordinates have to those higher up the hierarchy.
Now he should not have called you petty, but taking that to a personal level and explicitly monitoring his performance** is not something a trustworthy superior should do, give him a slap on the wrist for it and monitor everyone or no-one.
As you said often you were the only person connected to the server RCON, that means that more people should have fallen to this method of Gestapo-like research.

    * lmao -- Quote = started monitoring you just a tad better

Now this does not mean that it's unjust to remove him, I agree with you, if this had been the entire story.
To be honest, from what I'm seeing the failure to communicate is mostly to blame on you: you are the liaison, it's your responsibility to know what's going, a responsibility, which you signed up for when they asked you to do it, even before the two other candidates.

As you said yourself, you heard from another source that he was getting burned out; why did you not know yourself - you are the liaison - you should have known. Especially if you're able to do the monitoring of his hours. Why did you not talk with him before asking core staff to remove him? Lay out the facts you had collected through monitoring the time he was on the PC in comparison to the time had actually had EPM open. How is he to blame? You went through Core-Staff to get him removed, it's only fair he goes back that way to get the removal undone?

Piece of advise for everyone, from the one and only Zissou; expect everyone to be dumber than you.
  25. Thanks
