    Hi,

I recently (4 years ago) found this community and I thought of making an introduction, but found myself long overdue.

So hi. See you on AWE, primarily.

    Love,

Karate Pyjamas reacted to Xwatt in Community Update #10 - Xwatt Departs
    Ahoy,

I thought now would be a suitable time for a community update, as the title suggests I have a major announcement to make, and the last community update was in March, so I think the time is right to give the community an update about the current situation at AW.

    Xwatt Leaves Core Staff
As the title of this community update suggests, I will be stepping down from CS. The main reason for this is that my own personal schedule has been getting increasingly busy and with that, I feel that I cannot the devote the time to AW that it deserves, therefore the sensible decision would be to step down. @Ryko always puts it best, real life comes first and must be given priority. I'd like to thank @Mark T for giving me the opportunity to become a Core Staff member, and I would like to thank the current CS team, and the staff team for the support they have given me over the years. But most importantly, I would like to thank you, the community, for backing me and supporting the decisions I have made in the past few years in an effort to positively move this community forward.

On a brighter note, I would like to congratulate @MidnightRunner and @Norris, our new members to the Core Staff team. I have no doubt that these two will be able to make a positive impact to AW for years to come, and they have my full backing for any decision they will make. Midnight will be taking over the role of AWE manager, and Norris will be taking over the role of Public manager. I would like you all the congratulate these two, and I want you to support them wholly as you have supported myself.

    I&A4
The development of I&A4 is now back into full swing, and masses of progress has been made in priming it for public release. Just under a week ago, we completed a full 100% run of the mission, highlighting the progress in stability and allowing for persistent mission progress over the span of a few days. Please continue to leave your feedback in the dedicated I&A4 feedback thread, it is immense help in aiding Ryko to develop the mission. Feedback can be anything from bugs and missing items, to your feedback in how you think mission should be played. All feedback is welcome, and ultimately will shape the end product for the mission.

    AWE and Gamenights:
AWE has had a ton of progress since the last community update in March, and we will continue to support the growth and development of the server for the foreseeable future. Currently, the server is rotating maps and factions after every one run of Liberation, and this method is aiding in keeping player retention, compared to the two runs that we did in the past. Support has been mostly positive for the switch back to CUP and ACRE, and we will continue to listen to community feedback about how we can better improve the server. Be sure to attend our Liberation Sunday events, in which you can find information for that in the events section of the forum.

As for Midnights campaigns, we are currently in a transition period between moving towards a new campaign in both the Tuesday, and Friday operations. For the Tuesday campaign, this will be moving towards a zombie orientated mission, and the Friday campaign will be moving back to the PMC series, and more information about that can be found here:

Alongside Midnights missions, we have two gamenights from @BenjaminHL planned, keep an eye out on the events section of the forum for the dates of those missions.

    Final Note:
As always I want to thank the community for helping us to move forward in a positive direction. I want to thank the donators for their continued support in keeping AW financially stable, even during a pandemic where peoples income may be reduced. Being a community powered by your donations is a portrayal of the support you have for our community, and we will continue to make the suggestions and needs of our community the focal point before any major decisions are made.

On a more personal note, I would like to thank all of you for the support you have given me as Core Staff for the past few years. I have absolutely loved it, and it is with regret that I have to step down, but I am in no doubt that this community will continue to live on and prosper, as it has done since it has been founded. I would like to give my personal congratulations to @MidnightRunner and @Norris, both of you have my full backing, and I am excited to see the progression of AW a few years down the line from now.

    Thank you all,
    Xwatt & The CoreStaff Team.

The out of bounds is based on the marker on the map, the reason that marker isn't extended more on the final objective is because then you'd get into line of sight of OPFOR spawns, which I can't move back because it'd then take them ages to get to the actual AO.  I'll look into that second thing and the 3rd has already been fixed in the next version.  We've also been discussion what to do with the medic, we haven't reached a conclusion yet.
As for the uphill battle, we're going to move to another map or place on this map anyway.  We'll also talk about the acogs and I'll have a look at the radio's.

-Out of Bounds is shady. I was way within the demarcated area and still got the out of bounds message as Blufor when approaching the 3rd set of targets at the airbase. (When flanking along the right-most line.)
-Before Blufor gets the greenlight for the next set of targets, respawning as Redfor instantly gave me the out of bounds message at the airbase. This should perhaps be pushed back before those 2 minutes for Redfor.
-Spawns at middle set of targets(assaulting final set) for Blufor expose them to take immediate fire from the airbase.
-No use for medics as far as I have experienced, the time wasted on getting someone back up is too valuable as Blufor and with +/- 8 players in a team the tickets are quite luxurious. That said, I don't think the tickets should be any less.
-Seems most Blufor objectives are an uphill battle which is a disadvantage, perhaps slightly skewing the difficulty.
-Maybe add more solid cover across open plains. Concealment works, but it's very, very scarce.
-Maybe limit zoomed optics only to classes that 'should have' zoomed optics. With ACOG's everyone becomes a marksman.
-Every other respawn my radio would not default to the right channel.

Perhaps on future renditions of different maps it would be fun for the attackers to have unarmed vehicles. ATV's. Depending on player count. Or perhaps limited to 2 for each objective.
Maybe Redfor can have a demolitions expert to boobytrap objectives or place tripwires (tripwire flares anyone?), likewise Blufor gets an engineer to disable those.

I'm an absolute idiot and I missread it as Battlefield-type GN. Which I don't think would work in ArmA with vehicles and shizz. But if it's actual BF then I guess yah. I don't own BF4 though. So deduct a 'No' from each and add one to 'Yes' and 'BF3'

Would love to see more non-ArmA GN's. I remember we used to do ETS2 convoys where we would all gather and have like 10-20 trucks behind one another going for a long drive. Basically just sitting in TeamSpeak and casually chatting. That was great.

Not sure on the other internals, it's literally all factory standard stuff and has never gone wrong. She just gets dusty and requires a bit of cleaning every odd couple of months so I don't start smelling burning.

    Peripherals:
Old Monitor: LG TV, somewhere in the 30-40" area running at a measly 1366x768 resolution. Had that up until today where I got my upgrade. TV ran fine other than a quite weak resolution, still enough to kick ass on most the games I played. Now using the old TV as a side dish to my PS4.
New Monitor: Gigabyte AORUS FI27Q 27 Inch IPS QHD (2560 x 1440) 165 Hz FreeSync/G-Sync Compatible Gaming Monitor

Desk Pad: TITANWOLF XXL RGB Gaming Mouse Pad - 800x300 mm - Mouse Mat - XXXL Extended Large LED Mousepad - 11 Multi colors and effect modes - Non-Slip Base - Wolf Design

That's about it really. Up until recently; my monitor, my keyboard and my mouse were all quite cheap stuff, but they worked absolutely fine and were enough to meet my needs.
The computer runs well, running most games I play on Ultra settings at at least 60fps. Normally on ArmA III, I can run it on ultra settings at about 100fps, only time I experience lag is when on certain multiplayer servers, but that is due to server FPS rather than my own, ArmA can be a pain like that.

I'll leave some pictures, my bedroom got renovated just last week so this is all just a work in progress, I will eventually be running 2x monitors and will probably play around with the set up, I'll also have some picture frames set up so teh walls aren't so dull. Overall though, apart from getting a new gaming PC (which I'm on the fence about at the minute considering how well mine runs), my set up is about 70% complete. Excuse the picture quality, I don't understand the pro settings on my Huawei despite having a qualification in Professional Photography (I think I just cheesed the qualification in return for college parties)

Karate Pyjamas reacted to Johnson in [official poll] TFAR vs. ACRE on AWE (read!)
PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING! (poll closes 13:00UTC 20/08/20)

It come to staff's attention that the age old discussion regarding the choice of radio mod used on AWE has recently resurfaced. Staff have decided to let the players choose the outcome of this debate through a poll. This post has also been compiled to provide an unbiased comparison of the two options (TFAR or ACRE) for any members who are unclear of their choices. It should be noted that if the server switches to ACRE, staff measures will be made to ease the player transition from TFAR (i.e guides, advice, troubleshooting, etc. etc.).

While the comparisons between the two mods may go much more in depth, we believe these to be the main points of interest:

    TFAR
    Pros
    - Already known well by everyone on the server
    - Simple and easy to use in the sense of practicality
    - Less hardcore in the sense of functionality (very clear radio transmissions, more powerful radio ranges, alternative channels, less terrain/weather interference)
    Cons
    - Creates multiple mod-related issues for several players
    - Could be considered to be boring or unengaging due to its simplicity
    - Radios could be considered to be too powerful and provoke less engagement with Team Leaders, Squad Leaders, Radio Operators etc. etc.
    - Plugin installer could be difficult for new players to locate

    ACRE
    Pros
    - Known well by several (but not all) AWE and MSO players
    - Even more simple than TFAR in the sense of practicality (eg. no frequencies just channels)
    - The same features as TFAR + more (vehicle infantry radios, shared radios, antenna directions, weather effects, configurable settings for the server)
    - Has an auto-installer making it much easier for new players to join
    - More Active Delevopment (ACRE has been updated 2 months ago, TFAR has been updated 2 years ago)
    Cons
    - Would require players to learn the new mod + key rebinding to replicate TFAR keys
    - Could be considered too hardcore (more realistic radios and effects meaning more interference and more for the user to deal with)
    - Can still produce mod problems like TFAR (although much less often so far on the MSO)

Karate Pyjamas reacted to Xwatt in Field Ambassadors and AWE Veterans Overhaul
    Ahoy all,

With the return of AWE, the Staff team have been formulating ideas about how to better make use of the roles we have available. With this, we looked into how to better make use of the current Field Ambassador program, and how to reintroduce the AWE Veteran scheme, to identify and recognise players we see as ideal role models for the atmosphere we are trying to establish across our modded server. As always, I stress that these roles are not being reintroduced to create a sense of hierarchy, but to instead recognise players that go the extra mile to help newer players, enforce the ruleset and provide an enjoyable experience to their peers. As Field Ambassadors are a greater bar of entry then Veterans, they will have added benefits that the veteran programme does not provide. The benefits of being in both programmes are as followed:

    Field Ambassadors
A Field Ambassador, is a player who is recognised by Staff, as being an role model who contributes frequently to the community.

    -  Selected By Staff
    - Exclusive Teamspeak Tags
    - Exclusive XML
    - Access to a discord channel with Field Ambassadors and Veterans (where both will get access to mission testing and feedback discussion with Staff)
    - Access to the "mission makers" discord chat, used directly between Staff and Devs in communicating the current and future development of AW
    - Acces to AW Gitlab, to report issues and give feedback on opinions on "to be delayed" features that will/won't get added to our missions

    AWE Veteran
An AWE Veteran, is an exemplary and experienced player who is recognised by Staff.

    -  Selected By Staff
    - Exclusive Teamspeak Tags
    - Exclusive XML
    - Access to a discord channel with Field Ambassadors and Veterans (where both will get access to mission testing and feedback discussion with Staff)

We hope that by overhauling these schemes that it would both reward players that Staff believe to be making a positive impact on our servers, but also giving us a direct line in incorporating non-staff roles into the future development decisions we make at AW.

Russian special operators finalized a deal with a local warlord. While main forces are deploying into mainland, the insurgents have heard that the americans are withdrawing and sees this as a chance to fight against their own local enemies. However, the local oppressors are hiding behind american funding and have asked the russians to own up to their deal.

Wow, this is super helpful. I remember the days where I had to use AWE mission files and construct off of that, super poor performance because so many things kept running in the background that weren't used. Never got really good at decent missions with scripts in it so I had to heavily Zeus them after initial setup. But a overall framework is super nice.

Karate Pyjamas reacted to MidnightRunner in [EU3] Friday PMC OPs starting soon
So as we have only one week left in the Vietnam missions, it's probably about time I finally put up this post.

The next campaign, starting either the 17th or 24th April will be a PMC style campaign.
We will be playing as a small PMC outfit, in a modern setting, operating in contemporary conflict zones, completing various missions for different national and non national bodies.
The idea is that using the same modset (save for the map) we can complete operations in different theatres, on different continents using different gear against different enemies. It gives us a large scope for mission design and allows for the more small scale PMC style operations.

Needless to say we will not be seeking to engage in pitched battles with the enemy but will favour small unit tactics, emphasis will be on executing the task quickly and extracting before the enemy can fully mobilise against us.

    First Deployment Setting
We will first be starting in Afghanistan using equipment easily available in that area. Equipment will be mainly western in origin, with items from America, Britain, Belgium and others. While not limited to these items, they were the most accessible in this region.
