But the arsenal on the server gives you the correct stats grab it leave and look at it in the inventory and it will show you the armour level.

Assuming something is never the best thing to do, as in assuming that a new player who has been on the server at least once will not make him instantly understand what he can and cannot take into the AO.  For example he might like playing as a Rifleman, he might go to said virtual arsenal and look I dunno a M16A4 and go ye i'll use that, thats a Riflemans weapon right?  Wrong he will then join the server and then find out that the weapon that he wanted to us cannot be used by a Rifleman. RIP.

Just to be clear, no complaints about the work we got and how it played out. Zeus did a great job of keeping us busy with plenty to shoot at. Loads of fun was had by all Bravo!

I think you misunderstood the banter for actual hate, you see people make those but I can assure you none here is stupid enough to prefer alpha over bravo because of their names, maybe because of players in those teams, but not just names.

    Ahoy,

Those of you that have been with the crew for a long time will know our beloved server, the mighty "Flagship". It's only fitting that tribute be paid to her as she has served us well over the years.

She's seen 3 captains in her days on operations and many different staff have manned her gun ports (giggedy), Hosting things like ArmA, Teamspeak, Squad, Kerbal space program, Farm sim, various racing titles, and probably more titles. It's fair to say that many people have enjoyed her service (how many innuendos?). However there comes a time when you need the Germans to build us a new one.

And so, she has been laid up in dry dock and the new Flagship'o the line is setting sail out of port, her sea trials went well and we're happy that she's going to be available for all you scurvy dogs for all of your future adventures! (Special thanks to Soziopath for his hard work in this). That said, never forget the great times you had on our beloved Flagship, those memories are priceless.

Lads, charge your glasses and raise them high!
    To flagship!

This issue could be overcome locally by hosting a local TADST server, this runs arma as a server so you can test things when developing mission's but could also be used for testing different mods out.

    A small topic about Mortars

This video of mine explains the following methods of zeroing in a mortar:
    Calculation Range table
    It also features:
Using map-grid for target acquisition Terrain Elevation Map tools (Mills, bearing, distance)
    Why you want this:
More precise control Low angle and High angle attack ETA to impact Precise Bearing and Elevation numbers Allows for blind firing So you're no longer an artillery computer scrub
    Download the Artillery Sheet here:

    The video explains it all:
Map techniques are interwoven with the methods.
    0:47 - 6:52 Artillery Sheet method (Map Grid + GPS + Contour Levels) 6:52 - 9:12 82mm Range table Method (Maptools)

    UPDATE 1-1-2016 Fire Mission Routine:

When operating in the some of the cramped environments like we tend to do at times, it's important to follow proper Fire Discipline to avoid friendly casualties when firing artillery shells. It takes time for shells to impact at the designated location so make sure you give friendlies enough time to retreat or prevent them from moving up when shells are danger close.

Here's an example fire mission that includes all the options (adjust, repeat):

    Update 23-12-2017 Mortar Trajectory Explained:

With this update I've included 4 plots that explain how the mortar trajectory works and how one should compensate the trajectory for uphill and downhill shooting.

First we look at the angle the mortar fires at. Increasing the elevation we can fire at things closer to us. If we lower the elevation we can get a bit more distance out of the mortar.

We now look at how the charge of the mortar affects its trajectory. A bigger charge allows us to reach out further when we keep the elevation constant. We can also use this to our advantage. For example, if there is a really big mountain in the way perhaps it's wise to select a bigger charge so you know you will clear the mountain.

Now lets look at the theory behind shooting a target above or below you. First we tackle a target above the mortar:

When we use the maptools we can get a range to the target of dx. However, since the target is above us we can see that if we were to dial in the mortar for that distance dx we would shoot the red trajectory and hit in front of the target. Therefore we need to adjust our elevation downwards so we can hit the target. The range table gives an adjustment in 100m height difference intervals. If there is only a 50-meter difference feel free to just divide the adjustment given by the range table in half or interpolate for other differences. However, a height difference of 10 to 20 meters relative to your own height shouldn't really cause any issues, and adjustment is considered optional.

Downhill shooting is very similar to uphill shooting. However, instead of lowering our elevation we increase our elevation as shown in the following diagram. The indicated numbers on the range table for adjusting the mortar work similarly, but instead we now adjust in the other direction.

Understanding the trajectory of your mortar shells is very important to minimize civilian/blufor casualties and to get pinpoint accuracy. That said, the further your target is away the larger the deviations will be, so don't expect pin-point accuracy on targets beyond 1.5km

    Shameless plug.

Anyway mortars can quickly become OP and you need a very good gridref from the commanding element calling it in. Mortar on a slant or tilt? You're screwed. I'm very much up for it, but it's very difficult to accurately and effectively use it. After firing you really need to keep good contact with the front line so they don't accidentaly march right into the splash zone. I'm more than happy to take a mortar team sometime and test it out. I've played a lot with the mortars in the editor, using the range calculator it actually works for the 3CB mortar now too, had to do a lot of experimenting to get the muzzle velocity right. It's still a tad wonky, but it gets the job done in a similar accuracy as the range card. The spread however, is huge, no matter what you use to range it.

That said, the 3CB mortar is a blast *pun intended* to use as it's moderately realistic in it's operation and the amount of ammo you can carry and how you carry it.

I'd really like to see this in action on AWE once as I've already proposed artillery/indirect fire support on my own thread about it
We could do a few test rounds with some mortarts on AWE or maybe even get a bit of training by more experienced mortar operators like @Karate Pyjamas. Even if it's just for fun! I'd definitly be down for that!

But then we'd be accused of making rules that are discriminating against certain players - of course this wouldn't be the case, but it wouldn't stop it from happening.

Personally I'd like to just invoke the use of common sense on the issue - but I know that'll be a stretch for some people

Karate Pyjamas reacted to Ryko in AWE server: updates, performance, stability
    Hi folks,

I just wanted to make a few quick observations about the modded server, given recent work being done on it.

    1. Any changes to policy, code, mods, or server settings are always being done with server stability and performance in mind as top priority. It's great to have access to a ton of modded content, but if that content in any way threatens to bring down the server, it's not worth having.  Similarly, server settings, the kinds of things we allow users to do on the server, and the types of missions that get run, are all in line with this precept.

Most notably the recent change in custom faces.  It was suggested that removing this feature could help improve server / player performance, and more importantly, stability. We're trying it out.  If we still crash regularly, we'll look at other things, and custom faces might come back.  They might not.

    2. Things will change on the server, sometimes without notice.  It's my hope that we will have the opportunity to notify the player base of upcoming changes, but given that we all have lives, and are often times only able to work on the server in our limited leisure time, sometimes these changes will occur spontaneously and without warning.

    3. Despite an intention to be transparent and open to suggestions, comments and criticism, at its heart all of the servers on Ahoyworld are not run as a democracy.  If you don't like how things are managed here, you are free to play on any of a hundred other Arma servers.  But keep in mind that our aim is always to improve the performance of the game for all players, not to punish players by removing features.

Let me put that another way: if we make changes, it's not done arbitrarily, it's done for a reason, even if that reason is not always communicated to you.

    Thanks,

    Ryko

Currently We are trying to tweak certain settings and the custom filesize had to be removed However you guys instantly thinks its gone forever

This isnt the case in the coming week we will monitor usage and tweaking the bandwith use

What you dont need to forget is its not only your single 100kb face its more then just 1 person who is using it ( and they do spam error's)

So if you guys can just stop being salty about it and just go with the flow for once would be appreciated

Noah, I don't think anyone blames you for anything. The mission was so sporadically made, without a proper brief. People thought we were doing a regular Zeus OP in the normal AO so questions arose from the moment we left base in a different direction. Add everything going tits up and there will soon be no-one left. I think that complicated Zeus missions without proper knowledge of the players what is going on just doesn't work. No-one was in proper gamenight mindset when we switched over to AWE.

Karate Pyjamas reacted to S0zi0p4th in Server upgrade
    Hi guys a little update

We are starting to transfer servers to the new server park

    This will mean several things
1 some ip'so will change (mainly eu#2 and eu#4) ip to follow
And some servers will have some downtime for the transfer to happen

Asoon as we got eu#2 and #4 up and running we gonna start with the transfer off eu#1 and our TS server
This will be done on a new server then we will ask our provider to remove and install the new server on the old position in the rack so we can keep our IP
This might take some time so Asoon  as we start there expect some downtime on Eu#1 and Ts

We will try and load a backup ts more info on that to follow

Any questions plz ask them in here or PM @S0zi0p4th

    Hello All,

Unfortunately Tanoa is not as popular as we had hoped, therefore we will be reverting this back to Altis to test for a week or two.
But fear not, Tanoa will be hosted on our EU4 server during this time: 144.76.82.169:2602

We will keep you updated and inform you on any plans that we may have for its future.
