This has diverged significantly from the actual point and has definitely lost the constructive and mature vibe that @Xwatt was going for (easily forgotten, 18 months-ish later).

If people weren't truly part of the community, then there is no point complaining about "losing" them, or them being "recruited" away, because they were never part of the community, right? You can't both have problems with people not joining in and simultaneously declare they've never been part of the community.

As for monitoring people's activity in other places, that's just really weird. Not singling anyone in particular out for this, as I know a number of people were doing it, seemingly long after everyone else considered this issue dead and buried. I would rather they had put this effort into actively promoting AW in places such as /r/FindAUnit and on Twitter etc, as unfortunately Arma 3 is an old game, and only new players find communities via the server browser. AW's strength has always been the sense of community and friendship that is centred around Arma, though ends up going in myriad directions with other games being played long into the night until people remember they have "real lives" to wake up for in the morning and they should probably get going. There are subgroups within AW, but by and large we could all get along enough to make a decent game of Arma happen 9 times out of 10.

I implore you all, as the unintentional centre of this storm, to stop taking this stuff personally and to - more broadly speaking - just communicate properly. My decision to play with another group was not personal, it was simply practical (I don't like Arma that goes outside of the range of "modern history to near-future", and there was a Star Wars campaign happening, so I had an Arma day free.). My decision to become far less involved in the community has been mostly a result of people taking this kind of thing personally, and feeling like people were observing me and taking notes constantly. It left me feeling like there was no place in AW where I could continue as I always had been without someone in the room waiting for me to slip and say something that definitively broke a rule, just because they'd taken it personally. Hell, if they weren't in the room, it felt like they would be monitoring who was in the same room as me and that in itself would be a crime.

Soon after I started playing with this group, I let @MidnightRunner know, in case there was any issue from a staff PoV. He let me know there isn't, and that other people in AW play with other groups and that's alright (and I know that eg. @Norris was aware of at least one such other group and was fine with it) . As soon as anyone had taken any sort of issue with it, eg. discord rich presence, or that I'd streamed some games with them, etc, they were more than free to just ask me about it, and they'd have found me just saying "I want to play Arma set around nowish, with people who do things differently to us, to see if I can improve how I play Arma as I've only played it with you guys", and we'd have been sorted.

tl;dr: It's nothing personal, AW needs to play to its strengths to attract new players. All Arma communities cycle through players, but the ones that survive or grow replace them by attracting new ones. You've got a really fucking gorgeous unique mission that I strongly believe that people need to know about - Frontlines. It deserves to be up there with Antistasi and Liberation in the lists of co-op game modes people should play. You've also got the DCS players that really have something good to push forwards with as well. I'm sure that there is plenty of good stuff for AW to be doing rather than shouting angrily at an 18 month year old thread.

@SiegeSix - there are better places to start the discussion on CS activity than in a thread dedicated to a different topic.

I dont see a need to be rude here, especially not rudely telling people to disappear, just because they play games elsewhere too.

I personally havent played on Arma at AW for a while, but I still check up on the website to see how things are going, and I still meet up with friends on the TS in the social channels. One thing I will say is that old members, and people who are here less often, are still members of the community, no matter if they play arma elsewhere.
From my time here I know that the TS is open for more than just EU1 chat, and has been for many years. I've seen people use the TS for so many things, from just chatting, to playing games, even interacting with people to become more fluent a new language. And ive not seen people complain about empty channels in the TS being used for that.
Many of the 'Splitters' dont mean anything bad by Ahoyworld, hence why we come back and chat in the TS or go on the forums. I dont want to see Ahoyworld fall in a trap like this, its an amazing community with massive potential. So much that it brought all of us together without any recruitment, almost all of us just joined the game from the arma server lists and kept coming back for more because it was so good.
Ahoyworld for me has been a strong part of my life, its been there ever since I got my PC and got into playing this type of game. Over time my tastes have drifted from EU1 to EU3, MSO and now other adventures. Yet I still like AW and want it to flourish, so that others can find it and enjoy it like I did.
I want to see us all move on from this, there's no need to point fingers or get judgmental over peoples decisions.

    Hello all,

I figured it was about time to make an official forum post for Operation Chingados (Chapter Three) since we're hoping to launch this Saturday (March 6th). Similarly to Chapter One and Two, this new thread will be used to announce each weekly mission so that players are able to have a grasp of the situation pre-briefing if they so desire.

I also wanted to throw in a summary of my recap video (https://youtu.be/ZTyVq7owUsk) for anyone who didn't watch or understand it so that players are all on the same page come launch, although this is by no means a necessity.

As always, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join and I'm really looking forward to seeing you all in the field!

First of all: NO ONE is required to read any of this. You can perfectly fine join the missions without ever opening this whole sub-forum!🙂👍

Now that this is out of the way: Though, if you are interested in the lore of the campaign or if you are planning on SLing in the missions and want to give yourself an edge by knowing things like:
Lore information📖 Information about the enemy (equipment, capabilities, how will he react to what, etc.)🔫 Standard procedures (e.g. ROE, Actions on Halts, Lost Marine Plan, etc.)📑 The Comms Plan, etc.📻 Maps of the country🗺️ etc.🧐👾🤠👻🐢 (you can also open this on your PC at work and it will look like you're reading something very important while you can actually just have a break😴👨‍💻) (It also looks nice🤩) Then the documents in here will be worth to read for you, as they contain all of the above and more!🔖
(I switched to uploading PDFs now because 1.) the pre-typing and formatting it in Word and then copy&pasting it into the forums was more than clunky already and 2.) I switched everything from Word to Latex anyways because Word is just...Word... Meaning I cannot really copy&paste anymore as that is not working in a good looking way from PDFs which are directly generated by Latex.)

Now to start things off, I give you the Base Order:
    Base_Order_Unrelenting_Resolve.pdf

The Base Order features everything in detail and will, as the name suggests, be the Base to reference for the Orders of the individual missions.
Because whenever a new mission is annouced I will be posting a complemantary Fragmentary Order that will be based on, guess what, this Base Order.🙌 These Frag-Os will display all the changes from the Base Order (and therefore will be a lot shorter as the standard procedures, etc. rarely change) and already contain a full plan for the mission. So it is certainly worth a read if you want to know what we'll be up against and which squad will do what, etc.😉 Also, you will be perfectly capable of understanding the plan, etc. for a respective mission by only reading the Frag-O and never having read the Base Order...you'll just not know the unchanged standard procedures, etc. but for that you can perfectly fine just rely on your superior telling you what do to🤷‍♂️

And as the first mission is starting soon (16.01.2021) already, here you also have the Frag-O (already featuring a plan, etc. as promised😌) for it:
    FRAG-O_16012021.pdf

Also here you can always find the current modset for the current MSO:

See you out in the field!💪

For the last 3 years there has been an unofficial cease fire during religious holidays. That is until today. While the majority of our forces are on leave for this holiday or are using the time for maintenance the enemy have attacked. In an overnight assault they have attacked and seized the capital of Bolabongo and many of its residents. Caught off guard they were also able to capture several senior government officials who are believed to be being held as bargaining chips. Having moved North during the holiday cease fire, the CHADS seem to be the force best placed to respond.

Following 5 years of civil war between Republicans, who fought for a democratic government, and the former government of Joseph Lumumba, the now deposed dictator.
Loyalist forces are continuing to wage a semi-guerrilla style campaign against the newly formed government. The loyalists hold much territory as the forces of the new government have not been able to muster the strength to take and hold these areas.

Welcome, in this guide I will explain my thoughts and advice on what are the fundamentals of being a Squad Leader in SQUAD.

Firstly, SQUAD is a team game. Teamwork and communication is key, and a team that does not adhere to these two basic principles, is not a good one. All teams need one thing to uphold this and maintain the balance; this is where the Squad Leader comes in.

I will split this guide up into seperate chunks for easy reference and reading. These will be:

    ii. Earning the Stripes

    Situation
Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!
You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is will trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.
But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory!
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!
    Good luck!

The Tale of Bravo as told by team leader ansin11
    A comedy in five acts

During the final hours of the CHADS' deployment to Hell, the legendary Bravo team was comprised of five experienced operators: @Assault, @Miksi, @Schubz, @Toasted_Bread_Slice and @ansin11.
The story begins after Bravo, shining in a last moment of undimmed glory, leads the CHADS convoy to the first staging point (after the previous lead vehicle, manned by Alpha, stayed back to heroically face the enemy).

Act 1: Bravo attempts to complete the first objective
The first objective assigned to Bravo is simple: Get to a road just north of Sunray's location and provide security for the rendezvous with him. Bravo dismounts 200 meters away and moves in on foot.
Cresting a hill not ten meters from the road, team leader ansin11 makes a mistake that triggers a series of unfortunate events: He spots one or two Russians walking down the road towards him and his team, but he fails to obtain more information on the enemy force as he hastily retreats behind the hill in an attempt to hide. But in vain - as Bravo realizes far too late, the enemy has seen them and moves in to engage. Only Miksi survives.

Act 2: Bravo attempts to reach the first waypoint
Four members of Bravo are reinserted by Vortex. The LZ at the Staging Point is lukewarm (Toast dies), but the survivors manage to disengage and link up with Miksi at their GAZ-233014 MRAP. New orders come in: Bravo is to secure the first waypoint on the bumpy road to extraction, ahead of the main convoy. Sadly, Bravo never achieves this. Seconds after regrouping with freshly reinserted Toast, Bravo's MRAP loses both rear wheels to enemy fire. Toast loses connection.

Act 3: Bravo attempts to get airlifted
The Bravo team abandones the immobile vehicle and retreats to the tiny settlement of Kangas. Platoon commander @kman dispatches Vortex to airlift the team, but the MH-6M comes under fire and has to land hastily. The main rotor collides with a compound wall and is lost. Fortunately, after the crew has conducted emergency repairs (twice), the Little Bird is able to take off with Bravo on board.
But the joy of flight is short-lived, as the aircraft's engine and rear rotor are taken out by autocannon fire three swift kilometers later. Pilot @Norris expertly carries out an emergency landing in a field northeast of Troihari, but the moment of relief is brief (somewhere in the region of around five seconds), as two Russian MRAPs are on the road just 200 meters to the northwest. When PC arrives on the scene just seconds later, Vortex are the only survivors.

Act 4: Bravo attempts to reinsert
Back at the safehouse, Bravo is temporarily reunited with Toast, but he soon takes off on a bicycle. The rest of the team is joined by Charlie member @FrOzT, and after acquiring another GAZ they embark on the long journey towards extraction.
In a completely unprecedented display of tactical driving skill, Assault safely navigates the MRAP through what is referred to by professionals as a non-permissive environment, masterfully breaching a roadblock (as seen in Attachment 1) and taking several patrols head-on. The enemy, unable to counter this remarkable feat, is forced to resort to shooting Bravo in the back with an AA turret (as seen in Attachment 2). Only ansin11 survives.

Act 5: Bravo attempts to exfiltrate
At the safehouse again, Toast rejoins the returning three Bravo members, and together with Frozt, they begin their second attempt to reach the extraction point. Meanwhile, retaining only a fraction of the normal amount of blood in his body, ansin11 demonstrates basic SERE capabilities and narrowly evades being captured or killed by enemy forces.
After a while (and one hell of a ride), the others manage to pick up the team leader and the MRAP heads towards the extraction point - which is, unbeknownst to the six heroes, occupied by friendly forces.
Just as Bravo prepares to engage the units at the extraction point, the mission ends.

And thus, thanks to Bravo's essential contribution to the operation, the other CHADS elements were able to successfully complete the mission - and they lived happily ever after.

Miksi reacted to Johnson in [EU6] Saturday's 1730UTC (MSO + EU#2) Gamenights Invitation!
    Hello fellow AW ArmA players!

You may not have heard of us or know anything about the AWMSO, but our two groups are more alike than we think!

Myself,@kennychr and other MSO members have been thinking a lot recently about how we could attract some like-minded Arma players into the AW Multi-Session Operations. Although we have a decent turnout for most missions, we all know for a fact that it's the more the merrier when it comes to Arma, so we are cordially inviting anyone who is interested in gamenight-style missions along to join our usual MSO players for our primary weekend-campaign operations!

We know that most Arma players just like having a bit of fun in their free time and don't want to be tied to anything too serious or dedicated, so we've decided to try out a sort of "hybridisation" between our two AhoyWorld playerbases.

Anyone who is interested in these campaign-based gamenights would be more than welcome to tag along for the ride; either to simply get their fill of teamwork-oriented Arma, or to see how they like the MSO playstyle should they want to join into "the suck" more seriously.

You would be under no pressure to perform beyond any standards higher than your usual EU#2 operations, meaning that, as long as you are willing to stick to the AW rules and are happy to work as one big team, you'll fit right in.

The way it would essentially work is:
    - You will join into non-permanent roles ("reserve role") that you will be under no pressure to use with our mission's player-progression/campaign saving system (ALiVE).
    - You will either tag along with some of the MSO members in permanent roles ("regular role") or stay in an element of your own, should you have a leader and/or sufficient numbers.
    - You will be treated no differently than you would in your usual EU#2 operations and used as efficiently as every other player on the server. We'll all be kicking ass together as one combined unit.

We may also have a test-server up before the operations start for people who want to make sure their mods are working correctly and/or to have a bit of a practise.

If this sounds like something you and your friends would be interested in, shout out int he replies to this post, along with any comments or questions you may have!

This will be the first attempt to join our two groups, so we will be more than happy to receive any suggestions either before, during or after our events!

For more information about what the AhoyWorld Multi-Session Operations actually are and how to download and install the mods, please refer to this post (you guys can skip Step 1 obviously and go straight to installing the mods):

Information about our upcoming campaign (Campaign Six) can be found here:

In an alternate-lore-reality from the vanilla ArmA 3 story; the year is 2020 and the AAF to seek no external support from neighboring superpowers or coalitions in their efforts to suppress the increasing, pro-western radicalism amongst the populus. Unlike in the vanilla game, the "Republic of Altis and Stratis" was never declared in 2015, meaning that the islands have remained a fascist dictatorship ever since. The "Military Junta of Altis and Stratis" is the ruling governmental authority on the islands and shares no motivations with the pro-western protestors to set up a democratic government, or ally with other countries. The rise in violent protest creates untold turmoil in the region and it seems that is only a matter of time before the situation makes turns for the worse. The Altis Armed Forces attempt to retain peace in their homeland, but their nationalist pride proves dangerous in such delicate times.

Miksi reacted to ShadowAce11 in Notice of Upcoming Departure
It is with a heavy heart that I am officially announcing what will likely be my complete departure from AhoyWorld. As I have mentioned to some, I will be stepping down from the Enhanced moderator team on June 19; this will be paired with an indefinite hiatus from the community as well, though I fully intend to return when I can.

In December of 2017, I enlisted in the United States Navy, with my boot camp date set for June 20th of 2018. After boot, I will be going straight to my respective school, and will likely be deploying after that (this will easily encompass the next 3 years). I will be limiting any computer usage strictly to studying during this period.

To those members of the Enhanced realm of AhoyWorld reading this now, thank you for being my friends and family. I have tried my best to be a player, a moderator, a teacher, and a counselor; and if nothing else I hope I have succeeded in being another human being that you were always glad to talk to. I have spent a good 1,700 hours on Enhanced alone, and have seen many people come and go. Throughout the three years I've spent racking up those hours, though, my mind has never changed that both the server and AhoyWorld in general are diamonds in the rough that is the rest of the Arma 3 community. Nobody will ever be able to duplicate the truly unique things that you all share.

I will still be active up until the 19th. I am just making this notice ahead of time so that I have a proper buffer to wrap things up with, and so that I'm not rushing to get a message out right before I have to leave. You'll still see me on Enhanced as often as always, and on TeamSpeak so long as I'm awake.

    Regards,

Despite not being a part of AhoyWorld anymore I was shocked when I first heard this news. I knew Oderus for the 3 or so years I was here, he was always somebody you could have fun with, whether it be in games or just chilling in the Teamspeak server. We played plenty of games together; Arma, Squad, Project Cars etc. Of course we had our little disagreements, like anybody does (mostly in Project Cars) but we'd both always come back and jump right back into the game and be as friendly as ever.

I hadn't spoken to him recently but I think there are certain people you come across in life that you don't forget, for some reason they just stand out and stay with you, I think for a lot of people here that knew him, Oderus was and always will be one of those people.

You'll be missed Oderus, keep on being awesome wherever you are.

We've shared so many memories with Ody,

If you didn't know him, he's the kinda guy to bring people together buying gaming bundles for his friends to join him in whatever crazy adventure he could find next, payday, life is feudal, red solstice, dayZ, Mount+Blade.... this list goes on. We'd joke about him rage quitting but that feisty personality that always fought for what was fair for the people is the oderous I love. Equally he's a chap you could sit down and chill with, watch some youtube playlists (including who killed captain alex, world star, failarmy!) and I'm sure a few of you reading this have fond memories of that! Our inside joke was that we'd share "sea chanties" with each other (which were actually just grime, hip hop and similar tunes!).

I'm gonna miss you Jeff... all of our crew will...
