Cellhawk reacted to PERO in ACRE or TFAR? - Open Discussion
As far as I know TFAR is only full-duplex.

ACRE has better simulation for signal-loss, radios have waaaay more configuring options. As said before, TFAR is a light-weight radio mod as of ACRE that wants to go deeper into simulation.

We are still looking into what is causing de-syncronisation between radios, we have pin-pointed some issues (loading radios from Arsenal), but there is also a slight issue with a script that pre-configures 152s and 117s (basically any radio that has an option to name channels/presets).

Staff is going to seriously look into ACRE this weekend, go through everything again.

    More info to follow.

Cellhawk reacted to Pancake in The life and works of David Bowie - A remembrance event - 16/1/16
Hey folks, just to make you aware I'll be hosting an event this coming Saturday to celebrate the legacy of Bowie and mourn his passing. He was a pioneer in everything he did, inspired many great artists with his work and entranced generations.

The event will be on teamspeak, live from 12pm GMT onwards until 19.30pm. As this is a remembrance event, the music box will have speaking priority and anyone being disruptive over the music will be kicked and should they persist, staff will be contacted for harsher punishment. Singing along is encouraged, so long as no one is asking you to stop.

The rota for the event will be a playlist of Bowies work and a few tracks from well known artists he inspired to get into music, from Iggy Pop to Midge Ure.

See you folks there and I hope you have a good time. If an admin could shift this to the events sub forum I would appreciate it, wouldn't let me create this in there.

Also if you've seen a person in game with a face you like you can goto
    C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Arma 3\players

in that folder will be a list of folders with the name of every player that has ever been in any servers with you,
(wise to check this from time to time and clean it out cause it can get huge in mb overtime, especially if you server hop)

in each of the player name folders you'll find a sound folder and a face, if those players have custom sound file or a custom face
you can then copy them out to your
    C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\ArmA 3 folder

you can only have 1x custom face.jpg but if you name them face1.jpg face2.jpg etc... etc...
you can have a collection and just rename them to face.jpg when you want to change out (requires game restart).

Bad things tend to happen when logging into game drunk.
You see that your impatience caused a misunderstanding. However, in-game alcohol-powered impatience might result into an "intentional" team killing or any other rule break, which may lead to the actual ban, so... Be careful.

Not saying you should stop drinking, hell no. I won't turn down a good booze either. Just everything via media.

Why do you think you were banned?: "For being aggressive towards other players" is what I was told, but I don't feel this is a fair and accurate representation of events.
Why (in your personal opinion) should your ban be lifted?*: Well, other parties involved received warnings. I feel as though I was banned for being part of more than one situation involving admin resolution. I was on the receiving end of a lot of insults and abuse, and I feel as though my reaction to that was, while not ideal, justified.
We've had a large amount of new players on the server recently, and they ask a LOT of questions that could easily be answered by reading the rules and guides; some of them then go on to presumably not do so, and break rules. Having to tell them to read the rules multiple times, when there is no admin or mod available to enforce the recommendation, is somewhat tedious. When they start to needlessly insult and berate you with extreme language, a line needs to be drawn.
As far as I'm aware, the warnings I've received in the last 48 hours are all due to misunderstandings, and I'd like to be given a second chance to explain the situations out to a staff member, and see what they say. I'm aware that it may take longer than the length of my ban to do this, but I'm more concerned about the existence of the ban on my record. I take pride in not requiring punishment.
Which administrator banned you (ArmA 3 only)?: I'm not entirely sure who issued the ban itself (Raz maybe?), but Raz, Smiley, Miksi, and I believe S0zi0 were all present.
When were you banned?*: around 18:50 GMT today.

Cellhawk got a reaction from PiranhA in Tank Crew Slots in EU1
I'd say ordinary "Tank Crew" slots, similar to "Pilot Slots" would be nice. We don't have co-pilot and helicopter crew slots either.

This, or we could introduce a rule for MBTs/APCs/IFVs or any other armored vehicle with turret to require at least 2 people as a crew.

    It's available online at a3ac.app.tymek.cz

Cellhawk reacted to DudeX in helicopter stuff
    greetings all,

i have spent quite a few hours flying choppers on your server recently. i want to share some observations regarding selection of LZ's:

    1. too close
troopers hate to walk, i guess. i prefer to keep  1km away from the ao in order to avoid getting shot down by vehicles. as the battle progresses and own troops secure more and more terrain moving the lz forward becomes feasable.

    2. bad choice of terrain
lz's are often chosen on a front slope facing the ao and all it's lurking apc's, vehicle cannons, infantry guns and whatnot. arma maps are awesome. it's easy to recognize terrain features meaning one can select a covered lz, i.e behind a ridge or similar.

    3. impatience
troopers don't like to wait. some think i'm their personal cab driver. i'm not. personally, i ferry a minimum of 2 guys (so they can support each other on their enterprise). also, changing the destination midflight requires some adjustments the pilot needs to make which take time, too, such as referring to the map, planning an ingress/egress route and, of course talking/typing in chat.

    4. the hilltop
a seemingly favourite lz is any given hilltop. i mean seriously! people love to bunch up on a peak and snipe down for an hour. hilltops are crap. they are obvious features in the countryside and any halfbaked enemy will have his own sights on them, too. being a little more creative and choosing different terrain from which to attack an ao is fun, too. fire and maneuvre, you know...

    5. extraction
dont just type " i need extraction". that's not much information for a pilot. mark a preferred pickup point on the map and be ready with a smoke grenade (one is enough). throw it when the chopper arrives (when you hear it) and tell the pilot which color of smoke you just popped (in case there is other smoke in the area, which maybe you don't even see yourself).

and then some observations on pilot etiquette:

with 5 or so pilots all shuffling troopers back and forth i'd like to see a little more team spirit, meaning if a chopper arrives at base second  let the helo which already sits there take off first. if you're booked by a squad for an individual task that's different, but other than that hang back a little. it's a team game after all.

    that was it.

i haven't seen any guidance or instruction how you prefer the piloting on your server to be conducted. so please add or correct anything i posted here. until then this here is at least something i prefer doing. i found that it also helps getting more troopers to the frontline alive :-)

    cheers

A first question is: Do we have this aircraft in our arsenal? (Didn't find it, also never seen it in use)

If not, would it be hard adding this aircraft to our arsenal?

Why? Considering the current content of our aircraft and generally whole arsenal, MV-22 Osprey would most probably blend in. It would definitely provide a nice change and beautiful addition to the arsenal. To be honest, I didn't see this aircraft in action yet.

What do you think about it?

Is there a reason of not including it in the arsenal sooner?

Edit: Just found out we would be probably using CV-22 used by USAF instead of MV-22 used by USMC.

Cellhawk reacted to Jim in Commanding workshop: Squad Leader & Team Leader
I found last nights exercise really enlightening. I leapt the ranks from usually running around as a grunt to commander of Hammer, Talon, Vortex, A1, A2, B1 & B2.

Thanks to Ryko's wise words I think it went ok! And special thanks to Kolev, VLK & ToxicPixel the teamleaders of infinite patience. Here's a quick debrief with the points I found worth keeping in mind for any new CMD player.

We were tasked with clearing a town/oil field. TOPTIP - identify WP in town - but as Ryko said - don't plan too much as the plan will quickly fall apart once we get there.

    Mission Plan
Move by Humvee convoy to dismount at Hammer's OW position
There's only one Humvee at base - A2 are in it and are waiting to depart, CMD, A1 & B2 pile into the Vortex Blackhawk. I can barely hear A2 over the radio with the heli engines roaring. A2 eventually get the message to move out - maybe they didn't and only left because they saw the black hawk leaving...

Talon is tasked with escorting A2's vic up to the A2

Hammer had a good overwatch position from the SW. They called in targets and eventually I gave them permission to simply take out any technicals or BTRs on sight. A slight cop-out perhaps but it meant less radio chatter and I could concentrate on the infantry. This principal I applied to Talon - who I sent North to clear up the way for Bravo.

We all get to the LZ and move out NE to some hastily dropped waypoints - one of which was in GROUP not SIDE and had to be retyped... TOPTIP make sure you place marks in SIDE - which I knew, and was told about and i had all intention of double checking but in the heat of the moment the odd one still slips by...

B1 move west to regroup with a guy who may or may not have been wounded - there were 5 people on three radios all talking at once at one point - so I couldn't figure out what the matter was. The important thing was that they weren't taking fire so could be left alone.

A1 & 2 moved through and cleared their points.
Bravo caught up and swept the NE.

B2 popped up on the map at some point (i should say at this point i was basically playing from the map - switching out to FPV only to change short range radio channel - and then quickly back to the map) thanks to canny squad leaders it was advised that B2 reinforce A1 who had taken a few causalities.

Moving into the centre of the AO I overstretched the Alphas. Hammer persuaded me to order them into a new position to provide better OW for the stranded Alpha2. Orders sent! Alphas regroup and before I know it the AO is complete - we won! Quick LZ in GROUP SIDE. All in the chopper, not quite - one wounded walker left. BOOM - lets go

In real life I run night clubs, bars, restaurants and events. I regularly have teams of 20-30 people in 4 or 5 departments to look after. The secret to my success in my career is to have good team leaders on the door, in the bar, on the floor, in the restaurant and in the kitchen. Give them a good order of service and let them loose on the night - feed them shots of tequila and Jack Daniels plus the odd line of coke if they drink too much, make sure they have fun and only jump in when they need help.

The reason the operation went so well last night was that the squadleads were good and used their initiative to interpret vague movement marks on the maps into tactical advances and tangible results. - Have yourselves a tequila on me!

Playing the CMD role is a bit like playing command & conquer but with fuzzier results and less interesting graphics! - Could we add a UAV operator slot to the command group?

The most important thing for EVERYONE to take from this is to keep the radio clear, and understand that if you are on the radio, there may be two other units on another channel passing information up. If there's no reply instantly then something may be happening. I'm going off to read up on radio protocol (i did my Yacht Master ticket and UHF radio exam in my teens so I can send a PANPAN and MAYDAY but there's a lot I need to (re)learn.

Thanks again and I would recommend that everyone takes a turn at command - if only to learn what the higher-ups have to deal with!
