I'm totally supportive of the sentiments expressed in this thread, my suggestion would be that the time for constructive criticism and debriefing is when the op is done and people are back at base, rather than in the field.

Even in the field, it's ok to offer alternatives, suggestions, and advice, but ultimately if someone is in charge, you have to respect the chain of command and ultimately follow orders, even if you don't agree with them.

    Hello everyone.

I want to bring something up, it's not a fun topic and this topic might not fall in good taste with everyone, but it's something I can't keep silent about.
I want to apologize in advance if I do make any statements that is hurtful and/or unwarranted, I promise you it's not intended to be.

I've been playing on AhoyWorld for a month or two now, I spend honestly all my playtime on AWE/EU3, so this might not be as relevant for the other servers.

Most of the time, it's great fun, the community is really good and you guys really know how to help a new guy out and I have spent most of my time laughing my ass of at all the fun we've had. Some of the time though, it's really not all that fun. I've noticed that there occasionally seems to be a lot of back-talking on local and/or sidechannels about other members and their playstyle, competence and so on. It's mainly one or two guys talking, while the rest of the channel just sit in silence.

I've never been a fan of back-talking, I believe that if you have any criticism of a person, you're supposed to either take it up with that person or deal with it in silence.
The fact is that if you never raise your criticism or concerns about a person to that person, that person is most likely never going to hear about it and as such never have the possibility to improve for the better. Instead, if people just talk about this person behind their back, you end up with a hostile environment for everyone and no chance of improvement on any sides.

I know, sometimes people just piss you off and I know you just feel like blocking them off and ignoring it, but often those people do it without the intention of annoying you.
As long as we don't take our criticism and concerns to those it concerns, they will most likely just live blissfully unaware about it and continue pissing other people off.

That's all, thanks for letting me air that out.

    Regards,
Sony, the guy with that weird laugh.

Kind of off-topic since it was not the MSO today but it was with the MSO people and a De-Brief from me since I was the last person in charge of the mission:

    DE-BRIEF 14.04.17:

To say this first: I am absolutely sorry for how the mission went after Sozio left and I was in charge.
To explain to all of you why it went that bad and why I made wich descisions: My problem was that the original plan was to get to the first town and meet there an enemy officer. There we should get intel about how to proceed then. So far so good and we even got there with a nice plot twist: the officer was dead. This meant that there was no Intel what became a problem when sozio left because from now on no one had an idea on what to do.
So I basically tried to proceed with the last order that was given: get into the next town and secure it. This went basically good but when our MRAPs got pretty much wasted we obviously got pinned down while I was trying to get fuel (but vortex couldn´t lift a fueltruck) and I was trying to figure out what our actual task in Oreokastro would be since the only other Intel I had was that the mission would finish there. And exactly that was the point where the mission went to total chaos because I couldn´t get fuel, we had no vehicles and people were getting shot over and over while vortex also couldn´t get to us for reinserts since they always would get locked on by AA-Units on the ground or by AA-Jets. This obviously made people leave the server what I can completely understand and what I am absolutely sorry for.
When we then got fuel and were able to move out of the town with the one more or less repaired MRAP we experienced a massive lag in which the MRAP was crashed. Due to the fact that I had Intel about enemies starting to push from behind us and probably enemies in front of us I called Vortex who was around trying to reinsert people to get to us for exfil since now everyone was wounded and we definitly couldn't use the MRAP anymore. I tried this exfil because I hoped that transport-vortex wouldn't get shot down since I tried to use CAS/AA-Vortex to regain Aircontrol and use them as a Bait for the enemy AA-groundunits. Also I saw no other option at this point since we were basically again pinned down but this time heavily wounded and without cover.
Unfortunately the bait didn't worked out as planned and Vortex got shot down with all of you while ASL and BSL were still on the ground looking for unconscious people in the MRAP while getting covered by Hammer. A few moments later also Hammer took another big hit and got wasted as well what killed my exfil plan for ASL, BSL and Hammer itself. At this point the mission was basically a critical failure since all troops were either KIA or MIA. To make the situation even worse ASL, BSL and Hammer then also got attacked by an enemy CAS-Bird what we at least survived. BSL then also DCed, and ASL and Hammer got killed while trying to escape from the overwhelming enemy forces.

I hope you now can understand why things gone that bad, that it was still at least kind of fun for you and I apologize for how the mission went.

    De-Brief 24/3-17
This event's task was to take the city of Al Tabqah and then clear towards the airfield where the suspected first SAM site was located. Following some relatively uneventful troop transport towards the town, both A and B hit heavy contact in the suburbs of the city. After a good 1.5 hours of battling enemies and clearing the town we had some disconnects and I lost zeus access and couldn't supply the forces with lost gear after a RS.

After 10minutes of reorg, A and B set out to clear a compound marked by intelligence as a occupied facility, but upon entering was found to be clear. Then I gave order to move to a small town outside the airfield to prepare for the final push.

When we hit the town we had light contact from one of the flanks and A\B setup a quick 360 and ordered Logi to move into town,as they where trailing the main forces to keep out of combat.

    Then...

Armor contact was called on the comms and .5 seconds after 60-70% of the main infantry force was decimated by flak fire of a Shilka that crested the hill from the airfield.

The reinsert of said forces didn't either go to plan as the person who just took the chopper instead of getting Logi to fly(they have sole possession of said asset) flew to high and found out why the flight ceiling was below 30 m.

As all forces where scattered and no proper chain of comms could be established to remaining forces in the field, i took a executive desicion and placed a task for all remaining forces to gather in a small compound about 900m S of the town where i flew the chinook in and extracted the forces back to the FOB.

Endex was called and the remaining online SL's and me had a small chat about the events.

    De-Brief END

So this was a more chaotic session then I would have liked to have, with comms issues and general impatience. This has been discussed with the involved parties and a consenus has been made that we could do better.
I for one love these sessions from a command POV and hope that people generally like them even tho its different in play style and general setup compared to AWE with almost no HUD and first-person only.

I for one will bring fresh excitement and commitment for the next session and hopefully we will have a more painless play-thru next session without the server kicking the bucket and me loosing zeus to alleviate any gear problems that may occur in arma's sometimes unfairness.

    See you next session

Jorgensen73 reacted to Liru the Lcpl. in Going Back to Zeus Ops
So we've been saying this over the past 2 weeks now and we *finally* have something down to announce with a good week's notice!

Starting on the 12th of April, we're going to bring back dedicated Zeus ops to recreate the good ol' days when Luetin09 was here. Ops will begin around 8:30 pm GMT on Wednesdays and will go for a few hours, with 2-3 ops in mind for the evening. The map will be either on Tanoa or Altis (and we might even bring back Stratis for a day), so make sure you prep yourselves! We haven't decided which server will be used yet, but expect anywhere from 40-60 slots to be available to the public, first come first serve.

Any Spartan is allowed to be on the zeus interface and we're going to encourage multiple zeuses acting at once to deliver a good experience, so expect these ops to be pretty large scale! We will do our best to keep them simple, however, in order to accommodate for various player skill levels!

This brings us to our next point: above is a poll that i'd like people to answer regarding what type of ops they'd like to see on these nights. I'd also appreciate any feedback below!

And before you ask: Yes Scar, some ops will let you have tanks to use

We hope to hear from you all soon!

    Regards,
    -Wiwu and the Spartan team

I'm calling out to players interested in COOP sessions with this workshop mission created by Mark Boardman.

Let's get together and find a good time to enjoy this mission. Calculate 1.5 to 2 hours mission duration. Please leave a comment on this topic to receive invitations for multiplayer sessions.

I'm looking for people who are willing to play this in a team oriented fashion using a tactical approach, reduced loadouts, dedicated roles, high difficulty, first person only, TFAR, Vcom AI.

Mission description from the Steam workshop page "Dynamic Recon Ops is a randomised, replayable scenario that generates an enemy occupied AO with a selection of tasks to complete within. This collection contains the same scenario on various different maps."

Dynamic Recon Ops Steam Workshop Page https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=722652837

    Things to note
    * Dynamic Recon Ops is currently not supported on dedicated servers, hosted multiplayer only
    * ACE3 is not supported (it may work in a basic mode, when one disables the optional mission specific respawn framework)

Possible mods to run it with
    * different parts of AW modsets (mag repack, ShackTac HUD, ...)
    * Dynamic Recon Ops exists for a high number of maps already in the AWE repo and more
    * DynaSound 2.0 (when using vanilla factions)
    * Vcom AI 2.81
    * TFAR

@Samous I recently started playing on these servers I can tell you they are the most helpful bunch of guys I've ever met online. And I'm old and have been playing online games since they were invented.
One piece of advice - learn TFAR and ACE. You'll enjoy the game a lot more if you know how to use these.

    Hello AWE players,

In the background we have been busy milling away, trying to brainstorm ideas to shape the future of AWE into something that's refined and easy to play. Someone suggested an idea. We've all had internal votes on the idea and we believe its going to revolutionise the way we play AWE.

The change is that we would like to change AWE into a FULL MIL SIM server. This change may take time to edit the mission files ect but we should get it done by the end of today. As an added bonus we are only allowing donators to join for the first weeks off testing.

Hope you guys can support us in our endeavours.

    Hi,

During the last mission, it seems (to me atleast) that there where some confusion about locations. I for one feel a great disadvantage when not knowing my exact location without spending some time in map trying to orient myself. Would it be a bad ide to give us a standard GPS so that we could better orient ourselves and the teams?

Come to think of it, this kind of thing might be better as a modifier on existing missions.

Like, a random chance to have a couple different things able to happen when you're approaching your objective that changes the mission parameters.

I'd probably change the need to arrest to a need to keep them a specific distance away. Would mean it'd be accomplish-able without zip ties, but easier with.

Depends on what feedback i get from the ALiVE devs regarding the .rpt. On the note of starting over, i have setup a FOB where the old one was in the mission file so that we can focus on the next hurdle.
