Okay I'm going to put this nicely.

The rules are fine as they are.
If people wish for every event to be thought of in the rules, tough. It isn't happening.
If people interpret should as to mean may, or can; then I will interpret staff discretion to mean kicked from server.

The rules are simple, they are easy to follow; and failure to display behaviour in line with the spirit of those rules means you might as well have broken them.
If people want to deploy to an AO without appropriate protection, expect an earful from me.

    It's really quite simple.

Noah_Hero got a reaction from Amentes in Rule question
I am always telling people who are not in CMD that they should wear a helmet when they want to leave base because of AWE rule number 8 "Play your role" because I always thought that this implies that a normal soldier has to be equipped with a helmet because @Amentes once explained it like this. But yesterday @Stanhope told me that not wearing a helmet in the field goes confirm with the rules because it is not clearly mentioned there.

So my question obviously is if I am wrong telling people that they have to wear a helmet or if it is correct to do so.
Would appreciate an official statement from the Staff-team to end this one rule discussion that way too often happens.

To put it ever so simply not only do I not like these proposed changes, but I think they are unessary. And above all they seem hard to implement, and trust me @Ryko does enough.

Well, that's why you have a good commanding element that can keep the CAS from ruining the fun, but able to come in when needed.

As @Blue-958- said: too much potential to fuck things up really bad.
Also this is not Milsim but more teamoriented short fun. Because of this I think that adding an economy-system would be too much for maybe having short fun at completing a few AOs. This kind of playstyle where you really have to be carefull about your resources is running on EU6 at the MSOs and there it works well because you are playing quite a lot of hours on the same mission and it is a bit more "hardcore" oriented.
And I agree with the point of the staff-team that now you have all the variety. If YOU want to do anything special just hop into ASL-slot and do it. You can do this whenever you want and create your dynamic playstyle without any scripting at all. And if you want to make people care even more on recourses than they are at the moment just don't let them take another vehicle after they wasted theirs when you are ASL.
And why another thread about this if it already has been discussed?

    *EDIT*:
@Miczils: for the point about CAS: yes in RL CAS is super important because you don't risk the life of soldiers on the ground and exactly that could CAS do in Arma...but then it is just super boring for the ground-forces because they stay safe while CAS is killing the whole AO.

and for briefings: just look at the stats before and after the AO and compare them and do a briefing on your own as ASL but normally you should have a feeling about how it went and don't need numbers.

    Protective gear in general, really.

Even if you are HAT and sitting two clicks out from an AO, with the way Ambient works, you're still "frontline."

Personally, I never take anything less than level 4 if I'm on the ground, and when I see someone die from a Small Velocity to the head while not wearing a helmet, I don't think of it as him being dead. I think of it as me losing my backup. Which is why I'm always crusading on them helmets

Then invent an AWE rule that only allows anything that is clearly just a human face. Would probably also decrease the amount of custom faces.

welcome to AW! If you have any questions feel free to ask and most important: enjoy playing and stick to the rules
And don't worry there are no unwritten rules. But in case you are looking for the server-rules:

Noah_Hero reacted to Ryko in AWE server: updates, performance, stability
    Hi folks,

I just wanted to make a few quick observations about the modded server, given recent work being done on it.

    1. Any changes to policy, code, mods, or server settings are always being done with server stability and performance in mind as top priority. It's great to have access to a ton of modded content, but if that content in any way threatens to bring down the server, it's not worth having.  Similarly, server settings, the kinds of things we allow users to do on the server, and the types of missions that get run, are all in line with this precept.

Most notably the recent change in custom faces.  It was suggested that removing this feature could help improve server / player performance, and more importantly, stability. We're trying it out.  If we still crash regularly, we'll look at other things, and custom faces might come back.  They might not.

    2. Things will change on the server, sometimes without notice.  It's my hope that we will have the opportunity to notify the player base of upcoming changes, but given that we all have lives, and are often times only able to work on the server in our limited leisure time, sometimes these changes will occur spontaneously and without warning.

    3. Despite an intention to be transparent and open to suggestions, comments and criticism, at its heart all of the servers on Ahoyworld are not run as a democracy.  If you don't like how things are managed here, you are free to play on any of a hundred other Arma servers.  But keep in mind that our aim is always to improve the performance of the game for all players, not to punish players by removing features.

Let me put that another way: if we make changes, it's not done arbitrarily, it's done for a reason, even if that reason is not always communicated to you.

    Thanks,

    Ryko

Noah, I don't think anyone blames you for anything. The mission was so sporadically made, without a proper brief. People thought we were doing a regular Zeus OP in the normal AO so questions arose from the moment we left base in a different direction. Add everything going tits up and there will soon be no-one left. I think that complicated Zeus missions without proper knowledge of the players what is going on just doesn't work. No-one was in proper gamenight mindset when we switched over to AWE.

Kind of off-topic since it was not the MSO today but it was with the MSO people and a De-Brief from me since I was the last person in charge of the mission:

    DE-BRIEF 14.04.17:

To say this first: I am absolutely sorry for how the mission went after Sozio left and I was in charge.
To explain to all of you why it went that bad and why I made wich descisions: My problem was that the original plan was to get to the first town and meet there an enemy officer. There we should get intel about how to proceed then. So far so good and we even got there with a nice plot twist: the officer was dead. This meant that there was no Intel what became a problem when sozio left because from now on no one had an idea on what to do.
So I basically tried to proceed with the last order that was given: get into the next town and secure it. This went basically good but when our MRAPs got pretty much wasted we obviously got pinned down while I was trying to get fuel (but vortex couldn´t lift a fueltruck) and I was trying to figure out what our actual task in Oreokastro would be since the only other Intel I had was that the mission would finish there. And exactly that was the point where the mission went to total chaos because I couldn´t get fuel, we had no vehicles and people were getting shot over and over while vortex also couldn´t get to us for reinserts since they always would get locked on by AA-Units on the ground or by AA-Jets. This obviously made people leave the server what I can completely understand and what I am absolutely sorry for.
When we then got fuel and were able to move out of the town with the one more or less repaired MRAP we experienced a massive lag in which the MRAP was crashed. Due to the fact that I had Intel about enemies starting to push from behind us and probably enemies in front of us I called Vortex who was around trying to reinsert people to get to us for exfil since now everyone was wounded and we definitly couldn't use the MRAP anymore. I tried this exfil because I hoped that transport-vortex wouldn't get shot down since I tried to use CAS/AA-Vortex to regain Aircontrol and use them as a Bait for the enemy AA-groundunits. Also I saw no other option at this point since we were basically again pinned down but this time heavily wounded and without cover.
Unfortunately the bait didn't worked out as planned and Vortex got shot down with all of you while ASL and BSL were still on the ground looking for unconscious people in the MRAP while getting covered by Hammer. A few moments later also Hammer took another big hit and got wasted as well what killed my exfil plan for ASL, BSL and Hammer itself. At this point the mission was basically a critical failure since all troops were either KIA or MIA. To make the situation even worse ASL, BSL and Hammer then also got attacked by an enemy CAS-Bird what we at least survived. BSL then also DCed, and ASL and Hammer got killed while trying to escape from the overwhelming enemy forces.

I hope you now can understand why things gone that bad, that it was still at least kind of fun for you and I apologize for how the mission went.

Rules mustn´t be broken at any time and nothing of the above said things justifys the breaking of rules. For example: of course Plat CMD can tell people to be Hammer if he is thinking that this would benefit the mission and if there are nearly enough players online to use Hammer. What justifies this: The sentence that says that common sense should be applied onto the rules. And of course it can happen that people don´t stick to the play your role rule but then you can either punish them over and over or you make adjustments like removing these roles that make people breake the rules and just solve the problem with a lot lesser effort and probably a way happier playerbase. Also if people don´t play their role as intended that probably means that the unit doesn´t fullfill a role that is fun enough by itself. Because of this I don´t think that it was wrong to remove these misused teams and don´t create new teams that´ll probably alse be misused.

Definitly. Best example is the UAV Operator I think: he provides Intel before and while the mission is running but he is even better because he still can conduct strikes.

MAT and HAT, the latter especially due to thermals, work very well as scout units as their role is already to sit in an advantageous position and kill stuff from far out.
I feel that a scout team would be taken the wrong way. Putting fighting capable infantry at a distance where they're not much use isn't good.
As much as I love the idea of a scout team my real worry is that it'll just be a squad where regular players and friends go just to have a laugh - where we already have useful squads at that distance who can provide the same information. Feels almost redundant to me.
