    My Resignation.

First let me say this is not a decision I have reached lightly, nor without great turmoil; it has taken me a considerable effort to reach this decision. If you don’t want to read further into this (but I’d suggest you do); the short version is that I am resigning from all AhoyWorld administrative responsibilities with immediate effect.

There have been many great times spent on this server for me, at this point I easily have 1000+ hours of Arma 3 invested with AhoyWorld. I remember the days when I first came to the server, fresh out of a milsim unit, and looking for something just as serious, but more chilled out. EU3, as it was then, was just what I wanted. Back in what I can only describe as it’s heyday back then, 3 was one of the best environments to game in; full of fun, approachable and ultimately very caring people. You had a laugh, but you got the job done while you were at it - you would fight tooth and nail for your team-mates.
In contrast: if I were to compare this to the current environment of AWE, I find myself reaching a stark conclusion - it is nothing close to that now. The AWE we all know now is not one true to the original spirit of EU3.

Not being of the original spirit of EU3 is a crucial issue to me; for now over a year I have been part of the team at the top of AWE. We came into being at a time of great uncertainty for EU3. We worked hard, extremely hard to arrest the freefall the community was facing at that time - and we did just that. In the short term we even enabled the server to prosper - player numbers went up. We managed to start rebuilding. But something went awry along the path, it has led us to the place we find ourselves now. A server where everything has been done with the best intentions, done for the right reasons, but not yielded the right results.

I set myself the personal goal of redeveloping EU3, making it into something better than what it had been before steering committee came to be. I wanted, and still do, to leave AWE in a position of strength, a position much better than the one it had been in. I have come to the realisation that this is something I have ultimately failed to achieve. And I hold myself personally accountable for that, for right or for wrong, for better or for worse. I have reached a point in life where I feel I have given everything there is for me to give to AW. Every time we have reached a milestone with AWE, I have known that we can do better, do more. This is perhaps why my goal has proven so elusive. However, the will to push forward, to do more and be more is no longer with me. I find myself more going through the motions, than actively driving myself to do better. I have lost the motivation to continue to fight forward. I must confess that I have been carrying on for some time knowing I perhaps needed a break, but I’m a give it your all, or not at all type of guy. I tried to take some time off during a holiday in the summer; it didn’t go well. Let’s just say there was a heated discussion amongst the staff team. Ultimately I felt that I had to do my part, step up to the plate as part of the team. That stopped me from taking the time away I probably needed to. It speaks to a larger issue within the staff team at AhoyWorld; but I’ll come to that further in.

Amentes made me aware of sunk cost fallacy, and this pretty much describes my feelings towards the situation I find myself in, perfectly. I have poured my heart and soul into AW, often to the detriment of other things in my life - but that’s the type of person I am, and I make no apologies for that. It is this total commitment, and the ultimately unattainable goal that I believe has left me in the position of carrying on now, for only the reason I have put so much into AW. That’s not something that is healthy, it is not something I should be doing to myself. It is not something I can continue to do any longer. The stress and weight of the responsibility that I hold is not something I can continue on with; not because of the expectations of others, but because of my own. Without some things seriously changing I cannot continue to give my all, give what I feel you, the community, deserve. And to me, that is not on.

If AWE were to be taken in a new, renewed direction; then I would most definitely wish to continue to fight on. I feel that if we were to return to some of the original beliefs of EU3 then we could, and would, progress forward. I am afraid that nothing will change without a radical shift in thinking though, and this is perhaps the straw that broke the camel's back. Coming to the realisation, that no matter how hard I push, some things will just not happen.
As for the staff team; there are elements of it that just don’t work at the moment. It is in a position of turmoil, where there is very little cohesion, and many divisions. I shall not name names, because that is not something I should do. However, I do believe in honesty and transparency, and so you, the community, should know about it. Those wishing to join the team should be critically aware of what they are getting into. I mean this with no malice, but instead a fundamental respect for those people who wish to step up, and do what is necessary.

I would like to pay homage to those past and present who have put every effort into EU3, now AWE; thank them for everything they have done. I would also like to say thanks in advance for everything that those who will follow me do. Without the dedication of so many people AWE would not be where it is now, and it will not go where it may go either.
In the end I hold myself personally accountable for failings here at AW. Because I know I should do better, but I can’t, not right now, and I don’t know if I will be able to again.

I promise you this, I will do my best to stay around AW as a regular player, to push for change as a regular player. I care deeply for this community, and writing this has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in a long, long time. I’ve had to stop 3 times now - and I confess, every time has been because I have teared up pretty badly. I suppose, I should probably finish this off with an apology.

I am truly very sorry for not doing better by you AhoyWorld.

    Best Regards and Goodbye,
    Copey

LWIRCM isn't anything like flares, it means Light Weight Infrared Countermeasures - Pretty much an electro magnetic countermeasure system, i don't want to go indepth but in basic words, it pulses electromagnetic waves trying to confuse the Infared guidance system on the rockets used by MANPAD's.

Sorry to say, that's how it works. And the only thing to do, is learn how to do evasive. Quite often I survive a few missiles, it's just the matter of understanding how the Countermeasures work. Littlebird is a helicopter made for special purpose and therefore it isn't as sturdy as say blackhawk or a merlin, it's not supposed to be, it's supposed to be as light and agile as possible, it isn't supposed to be used when enemies are known to have AA coverage, flares add to the weight, and trust me, you don't want it to be heavier than it is. I am happy that we at least have the Electro Magnetic Interference Countermeasure system, as in real life only the very special purpose Mission Enhanced Littlebird have any kind of advanced countermeasures. As, well, it's not really in need of any kind, because when used according to what it was made for, in the time it takes the enemy to lock it, it will be long gone and if it was the armed variant, the enemy manpads will be gone too.

My advice, train in using the speed and agility of the helicopter in addition with LWIRCM, to evade the threat, hide behind hills, turn hard and fly faster than enemies can track you. Appear, deliver democracy and freedom and dissappear again. That's what the Mission Enhanced Littlebird was made for. Don't rely on the electro magnetic jamming to work like flares, that you can just pop flying in a straight line and hope for the best. And if a lead tells you to do something else, just inform him, that he put you in the wrong helicopter. It's not the machine that is the problem, it's just used where it shouldn't be.

    Hello!

We are pleased to introduce a new team within AhoyWorld - “Outreach”. This team will be responsible for media distribution and communications within and outside AhoyWorld.

    What are our aims?

The team has two main objectives within AhoyWorld. The first is to ensure that the staff have clear lines of effective communication with the AhoyWorld community. This is to ensure that any announcements are transparent and made to a professional standard.

The second aim is to increase the social media presence of AhoyWorld on all social media platforms. We believe this will improve player interaction through social media and will promote the community and the AhoyWorld servers, with important announcements also appearing on our social media.
This also means production of new media to promote AhoyWorld servers, and encourage greater player attraction  to  our community.

    Our team

We are a five man team that consists of both players and staff members. This is to ensure that we can get feedback on updates from all levels of the community before changes are made and the announcements are published. We have decided on a team that will attempt to represent both our public servers and the Enhanced server equally.

MuckDuck - Team Lead Ghostdragon - Website Coordinator D.Devil - I&A Coordinator Amentes - Spartan Contact Kingfisher - Media Coordinator Origins
We feel that the Outreach initiative will open up new and transparent avenues of communication to benefit the community as a whole. As such we hope to engage you all in discussion and get everyone involved in the goings-on of AhoyWorld.

    Regards,
    The Outreach Team

Simple. Remember how far flung I&A 3.1.0 base was? My first impression on Tanoa I&A 3.1.2 proved that location on the main island is the game-changer! My first login few hours ago and it was well done! I love the base at La Rochelle Aerodrome! With my newly-acquired skill as a pilot, I will be visiting EU4 more frequently.

when EU#2 was announced to be on tanoa i got very exited. finally! an unmodded, public, chill, server!! with less people, no trolls, it was gonna be great!
but alas, simply not enough people had apex. i have had some amazing experiences on EU#2 tanoa. lets hope it will stay as the less popular, but still very loved smaller borther of EU#1.

(Didn't find it earlier - that's why I started this new one)

As much as I wouldn't like that to be true, you are completely right.
Tanoa doesn't receive as much love from the Players as it deserves...

What do you think is the reason? The necessity for the DLC or is it something else?

Tanoa is a good map, but unoptimized for sh8t. You can still memory leak on 64 bit for example.

I'm sure EU2 will turn into a Malden server when Bohemia releases it to see how it goes or something... also...
Check back in 24 hours about that, Fabs and I have been talking...

    Hello All,

Unfortunately Tanoa is not as popular as we had hoped, therefore we will be reverting this back to Altis to test for a week or two.
But fear not, Tanoa will be hosted on our EU4 server during this time: 144.76.82.169:2602

We will keep you updated and inform you on any plans that we may have for its future.

Ok, so in the initplayerlocal.sqf you can find the following line of code:

_null = [] execVM "scripts\restrictions.sqf";// gear restrictions and safezone

This handles both gear restrictions and base protection.  I believe at a lanparty you don't need to worry about teamkilling at base so simply put  // in front of this line of code. Let me know if you can't find it.

    Hello,

First id like to start with thanking you all with the amazing missions on the servers i absolutely love playing them, and really appreciate the time and effort put into this.

    On to my question:

I'm going to a small lan party with some of my friends and would like to setup an arma 3 server over lan, and to enjoy your I&A map with my friends, now the problem that i have is the restrictions on the classes, as you can imagine we won't be with a lot of ppl so there is no chance to fullfill the required classes to be able to properly play together and actually complete stuff.
For example i'm the only player that is able to handle flying properly but i also need to be able to support my friends on the ground. While i'm in the pilot role i probably wont be able to support my friends on the ground as much as lets say in a rifleman role.

Is it possible to edit the mission myself and remove the class restrictions?
If so what would i need to edit?
And if this version already exists where can i download it?

    with regards,

    Ossiwozzy

    Hi folks,

So it turns out that many of you don't like the new TS Tags, and that's fair.  This is a classic case of starting with a small task (fix the AWE moderator tag) that snowballed into a larger task (design something that makes sense across all the icons) and exploded into a big thing (create a whole new theme).

And it was done in isolation, assuming that it was such a small thing that no one would care or perhaps even notice.  Boy was I wrong!

So, here's how I'd like to go forward from here:

    1) We'll go back to the older tags for now.
    2) I'd like to start a design competition where everyone can submit their concepts for what new tags could be, with an actual prize.
    3) When people have made submissions, we'd submit them to a vote, in addition to the current legacy tags.
    4) If a new set of tags is chosen by majority vote, that person would win the actual prize. If the old legacy tags are chosen, then a random person who submitted tags will win.

and in general, any changes to all aspects of the site, no matter how small, will be conducted with consultation. I appreciate that you people care about how we do things here, and if you didn't, it wouldn't be the great place that it is.

    Discussion in this thread, thanks!

Details of the competition to follow, we will reserve the right to veto a design (No Boaty McBoatface!)

AW forces captured the main airfield with light contact in the town of Rodopoli. After that elements spread to their respective sectors and 1 IED factory was found and destroyed.
AW forces sustained minimal casualties and only lost 1x MEU medical evacuation chopper.

The element that saw most action was Charlie, hitting 2 separate contacts with 1x EI squad and one engagement with 2x EI squads.

Overlord is pleased with our progress and the next mission will be to conduct probing patrols into known enemy occupied areas and also conduct door to door searches in the nearby towns around "Depot 1".

With that out of the way, i cant guarantee that everyone hits contact at first patrol as everything is random in terms of where the AI move, next op ill have us probe the known enemy territory so that should increase the threat factor a lot.

    Hello all AhoyWorld members!

As a result of long term ongoing discussions, @Davidour site leader for almost a year has decided to move on and pass leadership forward. After extensive discussion I have been elected to take his place.

We thank David for his leadership and contributions to the AhoyWorld community and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. He has agreed to stay on temporarily in an advisory capacity until things smooth out, however his decision on whether he decides to stay with us long term has yet to be decided.

For my part, I'll appreciate your patience and support during this period of transition and I look forward to seeing you out in our various virtual battlefields.

Charlie had a decent amount of contact when taking DEPOT1 and clearing Lakka. I'm almost certain we encountered the easternmost installation there, so as we push further, we can expect to find more interesting things. If we decide to patrol BLUFOR territory, then yes, please do ramp up enemy presence.

But I agree, it was a great mission. The feedback I got from my team was resonating the same way. It's a welcome change of pace.
One thing I'd like to add is to either push back the start time one hour or just be on-schedule next week without waiting for anyone. Sitting in the lobby for as long as we did was borderline mind-numbing.
