Yep ther are 50-60 people on the public servers nightly, which is considerably more than those on AWE nightly. So what makes AWE so much more important than the other servers, why should anyone who does not play on the AWE server care? It won't stop their fun in the slightest.

This issue (whatever it actually is and by many posts it seems to be a bit fuzzy overall) does not relate to everyone, and those who are not touched by it now get to read it and comment on it, by default this topic is asking for that (or else it'd be on the AWE forums).

When you say AW's future you mean AWE's future, or you and your fellow AWE players (gaming) future. So I feel vindicated in sticking up for the overall community as I have had a lot of good times on it, but I am happy to say I know nothing about the drama on AWE, but I never cared to read those forums anyway.

TLDR; AW is a great place to play and have fun overall, but AWE seems the opposite for whatever reasons - including feeling self entitled.

Let's take a step back here and assume we don't.

So far, we've been given mixed signals by a multitude of people we couldn't even begin to separate into camps, philosophies or wants and needs. It's all a blur, but fucking swearing the shit out of the situation is decidedly not going to help.
Evidently Teddy wants to be regarded as separate from the pot-stirring, excrement-flinging parties. That's fine, there's one. Who else will own up to wanting to change things and actually give us something to work with?

I want a list. Bullet points. No quoting, no name-calling, no pointing fingers unless it's conducive to your argument.
The glory days of old will remain glorious, but there's no chance of them returning if all you do is reminisce and whinge about how they're gone.

Let me be absolutely clear, then. The change I got asked to make was to remove Stanhope, or in some way essentially stop him from being able to play on the server.  Unless you want to enumerate other issues that were never brought to my attention (like the infamous meeting recorded by GB, where the points were never summarized and sent), that is what I refused to do. Did I sit by and do nothing? No, I spoke directly to the people involved, regarding the actions involved. People committed to make changes in their personal play styles. Was it enough for some people? I guess not.

Shadow Knight, if you filed player reports because you thought you saw a rule being violated, I wouldn't ban you, either.

Let me put it out there again: I'm all for change. We've changed things big and small over the years. EU3 is a shade of its former self. But unless people start laying out exactly what they want changed, instead of just saying "things have got to change" without laying out some detail, then I'm at a loss.

@Bartlett, with all due respect, your post is very long. Bullet-point it for me what the specific changes should be.

Karate Pyjamas got a reaction from Geb in An open letter of the problems within Ahoyworld
When a player is reported it is reviewed by staff and discussed, many a time we choose not to sanction because it's such a minor detail that we feel that it will just blow over and everyone will get along the next day. When a player is dragged aside and warned or on the verge of a larger sanction like a ban we always inquire with both the reporting player and the player who is assumed to be in violation. We listen to both sides and are happy to give the benefit of the doubt when proper arguments are in place and things are handled in a mature way. We're quite forgiving when it comes to AWE because the player base is quite close.

Honestly, we don't want to ban anyone, that would be ideal. Because we all know you guys and you guys all know us. But there are times when things just get taken too far and someone needs to sit in the corner for a week or two to relax and overthink their actions. While everyone has their opinions about others I observe that personal grudges are really not an issue and things are handled very professionally without taking sides prematurely or at all.

Even though some of you have already made your decision to move on, perhaps such a backlash was needed to really get the ball rolling, so please, give us a chance to improve and handle all your complaints. It shouldn't be needed to have such a backlash to get things going at all, but it happened and I think that all of the staff agrees that we are very sorry it has had to come this far and that we are very willing to improve and take this as a lesson and not have it happen again.

Lastly I'd like to give my personal opinion:
All things said and the huge backlash and pitchforks do hurt me. As far as I know, I do my job and I do it well, seeing the forums spammed with memes and hurtful comments hits me too. I understand a lot of the anger, but please take some of your comments into consideration.

@PiranhA has a valid point, let's keep this civil and on track please. It's not common for the community to ACTUALLY start discussing stuff and I'd rather not have people just constantly slate on @Stanhope for doing his job. Yes he may be too strict on the little things sometimes but god forbid he does his job.

Slating people, arguing publically and jumping on a hate bandwagon is NOT HELPING this community. People complain that the community is "dying" but to be frank, they themselves are just trying to push it in the wrong direction.

If people cannot settle their differences and would rather just stay on the hate train, then please let that hate train take you to a different community and may you have a nice time there. It's sad to see people leave, but not as sad as seeing them stick around just to argue and be rude.

To follow up on this and make my thoughts from the meeting a little more public to all as some were not there.

My thoughts on the issues within Ahoyworld are mainly down to the community themselves, it is your duty as a player within the community to talk openly about what you would like and what your issues are. As Ryko said, the staff simply cannot work on any issues if they do not hear about it. If you are having trouble getting your point to staff, try and take it up the ladder of authority (Player you trust >Moderator > Admin > Core Staff).

The issues people are facing with @Stanhope. I can understand that people may get frustrated with him on EU3, perhaps utilizing the player report tool (which I may remind people that everyone has the right to use) a little too much, including possibly minor infractions. To this, why not talk to Stan yourself? There is no reason why one cannot talk to another and try and talk about issues or settle their differences. I can understand that it may be ones duty to report players for mucking around or breaking rules, just remember, minor infractions that do not really affect the game play on the server but one or two people DO ADD UP. And if someone is banned after a lengthy amount of minor infractions, it can seem unfair to that person.

For this I say, please please please, talk to each other and discuss the issues you are seeing. Perhaps talk to players more and explain what they have done wrong before reporting them. I'm not saying that Stan or others do not do this, but I am simply reminding people that this is an option. We are a community and though we have great amounts of communication now compared to previous years, that communication is not as a community but more targeted at a PVP battle between the players. Let us settle differences, learn to be a little more forgiving for the little things and just have fun. It is a Gaming Community at the end of the day.

There has also been the discussions between "Group A" and "Group B" and how we can come together as a community to make both sides work. For those that do not know:

Group A - "The rules should absolutely be followed all the time, and that fun is had when everyone is following the rules"
Group B - "The rules should be followed when it makes sense to follow them, otherwise they can be ignored / bent when it's reasonable or fun to do so."

I myself as a player are in Group B, but I fully understand and respect Group A and I ask politely that those in Group A understand and respect Group B. It is important that we make sure both groups can work together and get as close to molded the two as one as possible. Again, this is not a server or staff issue but is an issue about players in the community if we were to actually call these groups "not getting along" an issue. Probably made no sense seeing as I don't see an issue here but just an example, you get the point.

To conclude, at the end of the day I think a lot of issues we face are ones we should aim to work on as a community together rather than pin it on the staff. They are not here to purely baby sit us but more rather make sure we do not get out of control. If one wanted a community meeting to talk about a subject, the forums do exist to set up just that or perhaps plan it with a staff member.

I'm not trying to sound high and mighty, like I know exactly what is going on and that I know the way to fix it and that is to just get along all the time. I'm just saying it from the heart and trying to read it out to you as I've heard it. We are all humans and it is in our nature to disagree with certain points we all make, to the point where we may never agree. But it is important we talk as a community to find that balancing point, a place where all can get across the gap separating us.

Average engagement distance must have been down around the 30 meter mark.

All in all, an experience very different to the average AWE style; which is almost always welcome in my book.

Karate Pyjamas reacted to Ryko in FSG: Lets talk about it.
    Hi folks,

Thanks for this discussion.  It's topical and time because the AWE Moderators have been discussing it intently, and we are going to proceed with a few changes.

    Background, and the problem.

The original idea behind expanding the HAT & MAT teams was to create a single, unified team to provide a variety of support options to infantry teams.  To that end, HAT, MAT and Torch to some degree were unified into FSG as a single team.  The intention was to allow that team to have access to a flexible range of support options.

The problem has been that in practice, it hasn't worked out as intended.  The rules for slotting up into FSG have been poorly interpreted, there are often times when FSG goes out without a squad leader, making coordination extremely difficult, and people have flocked to FSG without populating Alpha first.  I'm not looking to place blame on anyone - those are fun toys to play with, and if you've played a lot as infantry, of course you want a different experience.  The problem is that the resulting chaos and ill communication that results in efforts to populate FSG have created a negative environment.

    Next steps.

    1) Effective in Stiletto version 0.22, FSG will be disbanded.
    2) A new role in the infantry teams will be created - Rifleman Anti-Tank, taking the place of the Grenadier.  The Rifleman AT will have access to all the same heavy anti-tank weaponry available to the FSG specialist: for the Western factions, the BAF Javelin, the RHS MAAWS, the RHS SMAW, and for the first time, the BAF N-LAW.
    3) Torch will be re-instituted as a second armor squad.

The Platoon Commander will still have the ability to create custom squads.  If there is a mission-specific need for a specialized support group (Sniper, Mortar, etc) the commander can still select FSG specialists from the list of roles to create a custom squad.

    To respond to some points:

I do agree with this, except FSG did come with some requirements about what needed to be filled before you could take the role - which was part of the problem, as that was not being followed well.  Thus, by removing this squad and streamlining the roles, we remove this problem.

The problem is that the rules have been unclear from the get-go, and impossible to enforce in a meaningful way. Players and moderators constantly poke players in FSG about following those rules. And when Alpha players disconnect because FSG isn't working well, you now have a combat ineffective Alpha, which should be prompting FSG players to reslot, and they don't. There's no easy fix for this current setup, and I won't lose any sleep about seeing it go.

And honestly, everything that FSG can do will now be possible with the 2nd Infantry squad fire team (ie., Alpha 2).

    - R

P.S. I'd like to add that a guideline we've discussed off and on, but haven't pulled the trigger on, is to allow Infantry teams to use light armored vehicles such as the LAV-25 and Stryker to provided mechanized infantry options, and save Hammer/Torch for more traditional heavy armor. This will close the loop on the necessity for FSG as that was one of its intended functions.

    Hey,

There's a lot of us out there who play airsoft but so far I rarely see people talk about it or even show their gear. What's up with that? If you play airsoft you're a gear whore who needs to boast about it! Time to start sharing your guns and your load-out guys!

Here's all my guns so far:
-Cyma AK47 Whole lot of ABS but really great deal.
-Cyma Colt M4 CQB-R Full Metal, my primary.
-Walther P99 DAO (I think it's Umarex but I got it for free because it's a leaky son of a bitch.)
-KJW KP-03 Glock 23, also a gas spewing leaky son of a bitch, only 1 mag works with it, fun to shoot occasionally but half of the time the slide just freezes over...
-Blackwater 1911R2, my primary pistol. I use it for both IAPS/IPSC Steelchallenge and Skirmishes. Only pistol I managed to make a kill on the field with.

My back-up primary, the AK47. I have a few hi-caps and a few midcaps for it. Shoots like a dream for the money. Will replace the Compact Scope with a red dot when I get that in the mail. I'm aiming for a T1 compact red dot. Shoots 375fps out of the box with lowers at around 365fps. Last time I chrono'd it actually shot 380fps which means that it's currently too hot to do skirmishes with. I'll look into downgrading it or wearing out the spring a bit to get it down.

I love the scopemount I put on my AK, it fits around the regular ironsight and it allows you to still use it in it's lowest position, which tbh is only useful when you're really really darn close to your enemy

My primary-primary the Colt M4. Shoots at around 345fps, great range, great hop. Just does what you expect it to do and better. Was twice as expensive as my AK, but hey, full metal and all the licensing marks on the upper and lower. Also, that's me being super serious and definitely not posing at all. *cough* Scope is a Swiss Arms Compact scope 1.5-5x magnification and has both green and red illumination with 5 different intensity levels per colour.

Sonofabitch was heavy! It held the intel for the next mission.

Sniper had us pinned so we cluttered up behind a bush, did prove to be the most awesome photo ever!

Attempt at a charge, we failed and I was third in line to get shot...

And when I get shot, I call my f-ing hits. 'Cuz I'm not a scrub

Your turn now! Show your gear!
