    Situation

    Full situation report

The global relations with the Horizon Islands government are deteriorating at a drastic rate. A combination of nuclear build up, Chinese influence & a tactless comment from the UK Prime Minister have led to the Horizon Islands government making the decision to kick out the UK embassy. Carrier Group Severn has reached the archipelago as a show of force to extract Embassy personnel and any EU citizen looking to get off the islands. Several teams of SAS operatives will be inserted across the island to ensure high value civilians are extracted.

standing with the Horizon Island Military Force (HIMF) is low, but they are not directly hostile to us. They are expected to make an appearance in response to our show of force. Furthermore, CSAT is active on the islands as military consultants, training and supplying the HIMF. Despite being arrival, they are not hostile either.

The only hostile activity we may expect is from Syndikat or any Looters that would want to use this opportunity for chaos to their own benefit. Fortunately, we are not alone though. Several US forces have performed their own extraction earlier today in conjunction with PMC IoN Just north of Georgetown. Several Jets are still in the area keeping the air secure and performing another show of force as we enter town.

    Situation

Mission failed, We’ll get them next time. Despite the failure to rescue private Rollins, or ability to clear a number of mines inside the town itself, we succeeded in clearing the heavy FIA presence inside Abdera.

Considering the intensity of the fighting it is logical for the mines not to have been cleared. Along with a number of wrecks some clean-up will be required.

While back at base IDAP has mapped the approximate location of mines and explosives around Abdera. They have also reported FIA presence in the hills to the east observing their activity.

We are headed back to Abdera to provide help to IDAP in the form of a demining vehicle while the majority of our infantry element heads into the hills to clear out any FIA presence there so that they will not attempt to push back into Abdera.

Odds are there still are mine & UXO fields that have not been spotted yet. german teams will need to look out for these and call them in towards IDAP.

Abdera is a civilian centre heavily impacted by the civil war. After the fighting most locals have taken refuge in Galati until the mines are gone and safety has returned. At this point only a number of key figures from Abdera are still present. This includes the local priest, The pharmacist, local doctor, and Farmer Miltadies who found some of our (cooked) bananas and has spent a day gathering them around our UGV wrecks. He’s still busy.

    Situation

During our operations in Kavala Private Mark Rollins was captured by FIA insurgents while protecting the local AAF commander. The FIA released a ransom video demanding the release of a number of FIA members in exchange for the private’s Life and freedom. Turns out the FIA aren’t the most Tech-savvy and uploaded the video directly from an IP in the village of Abdera. The German platoon stationed at FOB Matterhorn is currently closest and mobilizing to head to the town and find the Private.

Abdera is a civilian centre heavily impacted by the civil war. Civilians in the village have mixed opinions on the Peacekeeping forces. It’s Important we’re on our best behaviour when in the town. Be nice to them and help them if they ask.

In other news IDAP is back in the area and helping the local population and a minor earthquake occurred on Stratis doing no damage. After all the shenanigans with those chemicals things are finally starting to quiet down! Did anyone see that video of the cat getting startled by the quake though? It’s adorable!

    Situation

During the events of Clean-up and Heisenberg events unfolded that lead to a temporary coalition with the Russian Federation.

The Russian FSS Have been hard at work to destabilize the Altian islands with the express intention of drawing CSAT out of Stratis where an Iranian force is training AAF soldiers. Intel suggests however that CSAT is doing more than training but also uses the island as an experimental weapons development centre (EWDC). As NATO activity has thrown a wrench in the destabilisation of the island the FSS are now willing to work together with NATO to defeat the common enemy that is CSAT by staging a surprise assault on the island.

Our mission will be to find the EWDC, find out what they are developing, gather evidence and then destroy it. First we must destroy two SAM sites on the eastern shore to ensure CAS elements can perform their duties.

As stealth will only get us so far with the heavy presence of CSAT & AAF on the island we will be receiving a number of CAS elements to ensure mission success. We will be attacking the island at a time that most posts will be minimally occupied due to a religious holiday. Once CSAT and the AAF are aware of our position though we will have a limited window to perform our mission and get out. Given enough time they will mobilize and overwhelm our position regardless of the fire support we can offer.

Due to the geopolitical situation we find ourselves in it is unlikely that this will turn into a international incident. CSAT will have reason to keep this facility a secret and them making a big deal out of this would mean that secret would come out as well.

    ·         Central // 3 man platoon element

    ·         Alpha – Delta // 4 man CTRG fire teams

    ·         Phalanx // 4 man Blackfish-Armed overhead support

    Situation

The chemicals found in Malden were brought there via a Russian Spetsnaz team. Fortunately we tracked an Submersible leaving the island and reaching a Russian Sub which then travelled all the way here to the Barents sea. The island is entirely abandoned and seems to have recently be re-activated as a purely military installation.

UK Carrier group Thames has reached a holding position beyond the islands radar while CTRG operatives are preparing to HALO jump over the island to find proof of the chemical production on the island and destroy it.

There is a radio tower and radar installation nearby that will need to be disabled to prevent the enemy from calling in a QRF and giving us space to perform our mission.

    Assets:

    Friendly Forces:

    Thames // Carrier Group Thames

-available for additional support in the event of overwhelming odds.

    Enemy Forces:

    Russian Garrison

    Civilians

The island has been abandoned for several years. No civilians are to be expected.

    Mission

-cut off communications to this part of the island to prevent QRF

-Disable the radar installation so Phalanx can provide overwatch and fire support without risk of interception

-Assault & secure the potential chemical facilities

-Gather intel through documents, photos, laptops, interrogation and other points of interest.

-Destroy any chemical facility & Depot

    Execution

Stealth is of utmost importance to the initial start of the mission. Between insertion and assault of the potential chemical facilities stealth should be maintained. Once radar and radio are down you are clear to go loud as the local garrison would then be unable to see you coming or call in QRF.

    At commander's discretion

    ·         Eagle // 2 man Sniper team

    Situation

Over the past week a great amount of intel has been sent in from a German platoon in Syrta and PJ’s in Malden suggesting a chemical attack on Kavala. Thanks to eagle-eyed soldiers we know when and where the FIA will be striking.

They will be setting up chemically loaded explosives along the route for the Veterans day parade that will occur the following day.

The new AAF government moved Altis’ veterans day to celebrate the birthday of a controversial officer within their ranks that died in the last few days of the civil war. Making he event itself a sensitive topic amongst the population

We have been sent to Kavala ahead of the FIA to evacuate the civilians in the targeted areas, clear out any explosives they might have already placed, and arrest any FIA insurgents attempting to set charges.

    Movement Plan:

    At commander's discretion

    Rules of engagement:

We’re headed into a civilian area with a large variety of armed individuals moving about the streets. Extreme trigger discipline is to be expected.

  8. I think it's a great idea to reduce the weaponsway. as people mentioned already arguing for and against, it will give players power/more ability to fight. This might make it easier yeah, but that's not inherently a bad thing. Giving a player power to do things will incentivise them to do something more. In this case it would be moving around and getting close. Getting close and personal is not a surefire way of winning the fight but it will make the fight more exciting.

I personally find ARMA a lot more interesting when I am in the thick of it compared to when I sit on a hill blasting people. A reduced weapon sway will insentivice me then to move more so that I can do those exciting things.

As midnight mentions this won't have as much of an effect to the overencumbered amongst us so it will be unlikely to have an impact on those that play that playstyle, and if it does it would be minimal.

  11. A regular review if set rules is excellent in any case. The wonder of the internet is that it is everchanging and something new will always pop up. Times change and events arise, like this one, that will require us to review the rules we have set in place.

A clarification in regards to what constitutes recruitment, and how Admin reports are handled are some straight forward points.
I think some guidelines on how to address and convey these types of reports publicly should also be considered.

I'm very glad this post was here to air our grievances, listen to each other and now move forward from it. Props to everyone for their contribution. Your efforts are greatly appreciated! (by me, but I'm sure I'm not the only one.)

As mentioned we're trying to keep the discussion civil and calm and emotions tend to get in the way of that. Let's try to remain objective so that we can get to a solution. I feel that my report, based upon personal accounts, observations and screenshots, was indeed an accurate representation and I will stand by this.

I think the filing of the report was a perfectly reasonable thing to do and I would say you did the right thing. I doubt most people are mad about the report being filed but instead bothered by the way the report was ultimately handled and discussed.

  14. I'm saddened at the loss of staff but most of all of the breakdown in communication. There has been a clear lack of it from many of us. In my line of work there is a saying that assumptions kill as without being certain of a situation you can't make a decision that's right for what you face. Though I can't say for certain I get the feeling that a lot of things have been based on emotion and assumptions. This in itself is based on assumptions and partial information, and as mentioned, those kill. I hope you won't filify me for that but with it hope to create some understanding and perspective from my end. I am glad CS ultimately took the time to evaluate everything ensuring there would be as little room to make assumptions.

Could this have gone faster, yes. But it's fair to say that Core Staff, as well as regular Staff are not full-time employees. We all put in our effort on a basis of free will, Which means we may not always have the time do something in an adequate time frame. Furthermore we are all free to act as we please in response to things. By this I mean that resigning as Staff is a decision I can respect albeit I am saddened by the decision.

Each community provides something else and I love Ahoy for what it offers. I see myself sitting in channels with others playing games that aren't ARMA. Even sitting in a channel with others playing a game is grand. I can't see myself doing that with any of the other groups I am a part of. The social interaction and the warmness of everyone is a reason I brought Ares along so she could experience that too. I really hope that this is not tarnished after this event. I consider all of you friends even if I don't talk to you equally often. and hope to see you regularly on the AW Teamspeak.

In that sense I would like to call for a calm discussion much like Xwatt just did. Emotions can boil over and we can't always be delicate with what we say. Though as the community we are I am certain we can let any emotional load slide and take what we read critically and respectfully. We are all here to make AhoyWorld better. We each have different ideas of how to do that and by working together, compromising and talking it out we can achieve this. No one is infallible and we should be able to question things. So let's do that evenly and as unbiased as we are capable of while looking for a place to settle in the middle we can all agree on.

In this thread so far we all agree on a number of things, even if the way we say it obscures that. Props to Xwatt for making the post so we can talk it out!
