Waskey-Wabit reacted to kennychr in Valiant Update #001
So I am guessing from stuff I have glanced on at the forums that there is a small(large?) need for info about Valiant.
Ill give a quick update about where its at now, what has happened since it was first started and where im currently at.

Since the first init of the codebase of valiant I have done :

    60 commits during 106 days
Added: 20k lines of code( DAC and the way FSM is regarded in git subtracted roughly).
Removed: around 5k lines of code( DAC and the way FSM is regarded in git subtracted roughly).

Made some alterations in the way the FSMs act, fixed countless stray variables.
Added logging to all relevant states in the states off all mission currently in the framework to ease debugging.

There is currently 4 main missions and 2 side missions, more will be added but mission generating is on hold until my current
feature is completed and tested in a AW TC (coming soon).

Honestly a lot more work that I cant remember cause I probably suppressed cause headaches.

What im currently doing work in is a rewrite of the missions(completed) and other aspects of the mission to accompany
diffrent modsets(ref units etc) so that when it goes public outside of AW. Users\communities have a mission param to
select what modset they use. In the start this will be limited to RHS,CUP and Vanilla as those are the most mainstream IMO.

A Test Candidate will probably be tested on EU#3 in either this weekend or the next one. Ill see how much time I have to work on it tomorrow.

For now here are two pictures of the threats other than ambient you will face.

    Positioning will be fixed.

    Hi folks,

With an influx of new players, we're going to have another training night.  Same mode as before: basic training for new players, and advanced training for players who have been out in the field a few times.

    Basic training looks like this:
Introduction - what it means to play on EU3 - how it's different from EU1 / other servers - what we expect from players.  Ie., the obligatory boring but happily short talky-talk part Radios - how to use ACRE - how to communicate well & efficiently - understanding how & why the radios work. Working as a team - formations, movement, cover, battle buddies, chain of command. ACE medical - how to treat your own injuries - how to help a medic (or other team members) treat another team members' injuries effectively. Advanced training topics this week will be TEAM LEADING and SQUAD LEADING.  For team leading, how to herd cats manage a team and implement the orders of your squad leader; for squad leading, how to build a plan based on Platoon Command's objectives, and how to herd cats manage fire teams.

No signups necessary, but posting your intent to participate below is welcome.

Training will be on Altis Gauntlet 0.36 because I haven't had a chance to fix the Training map, and it'll be useful to have objectives for FT/SL training.

Following training at 21:00 will be a ZEUS co-op mission, also using the standard Gauntlet format, but tailored more to the composition of the platoon.

    Cheers

    Hello brothers in arms,

As you may or may not have deduced from the title we are implementing a new sort of system in the EU#3 community, the veteran system.
This means that players that meet the qualifications can be added to a new Squad.XML, specially designed for EU#3 Veterans with as motto "Exemplo Ducemus" - which is Latin for 'leads by example', which is exactly what we're expecting from the veterans.
Furthermore we have redesigned the 'Experienced @ EU#3' Team Speak server group into a Veteran tag -with real dogtags, yes- which will, next to being added to the XML, only be handed out to the Veterans.

What we expect from the Veterans is that they - with the new respect their status should give them - provide an example and a grip for both new players and players that have been with us for a while, to show them the ropes and provide them, along with yourself of course, the best playing experience possible.

Seeing we - as staff team - are trying to foster a special environment on EU#3 the selection procedure is going to have a couple of requirements, after you meet the requirements (listed below) and are eager to sign-up you should talk to an EU#3 Moderator, who will pass your name on to the entire moderator team and after a short discussion about the candidate you will hear whether we think you belong on the XML or not.

    Requirements:
Should be regularly active in the EU#3 community.
        Has been active on EU#3.
Should have a total playtime of around 40 hours on EU#3.
Is able to attend some community events throughout the year. No bans in the last 6 months or warned for serious infractions in last 3 months. Trustworthy in representing the AhoyWorld name and logo. Moderators agree on you getting the tag. (as stated above)
A serious infraction or getting banned will result in losing the status. Also repeatedly cancelling events for invalid reasons will be frowned upon.
Re-instatement will be possible after a cooldown period of  either 3 months on any serious infraction or 6 months after recieving a ban. After which you will be watched and any other infraction, however small might still lead to losing the status (again)

    Both images, XML & Tags:

Post will be moved to the EU#3 section in a few days.

Our goal: To take control of Saint Ann, Montego Bay and Savanna La Mar.

You'll require a Cerberus and the rank of First Lieutenant or above.

Sadly this means not everyone can be involved but under manning below 1st LT Is just too little.

Hopefully see a good number at sea. We shall also have support from the nation.

Saturday: Group up Carlisle @ 12pm GMT to move on Savanna La Mar.

This is an infantry-only mission with room for 38 players on each side, so we should have more than enough room.

Well I really enjoyed playing last night, especially as First Person was disabled, made flying a bit more exciting!
I do think that speeding up the setting up of the missions/sever can be improved with minor changes.
I also agree with Someone on having a Google doc or something with everything you need to know about the PvP match to explain things easily and quickly, this could be put in the team speak channels description.
Overall it was good fun, and cant wait for the next one in the near future maybe?!?

A little scripting could really help here.

In onPlayerRespawn.sqf, there can be a hintC that produces an explanatory hint for players that join, which sets out the rules on the server.  The player must click on the OK box for the hint to be removed, which qualifies as their reading and acceptance of the rules; after that, anyone who breaches a rule can be kicked with a clear conscience.

I wouldn't use a Virtual Arsenal for PvP.  I'd stick to set loadouts and have a few ammo boxes with extra weapons and gear that you want to have available for the mission.  The Virtual Arsenal has convenience but it's also fraught with difficulty, and peoples' inner OCD will come out to the point that they will spend 30 minutes getting the exact right kit.

Something I've experimented with on EU3 is to start all the players in a locked hangar until mission start, and then just remove the hangar when the mission is a go.

As a suggestion I would say that if you are having IFF (Identify Friend or Foe) issues, then as part of the map design have a single enemy unit in each team's spawn that's set to enableSimulation false, so it can just sit there being an example of what the bad guy will look at.  Players can shoot at it til the cows come home and it will be fine.

As things stand right now, I don't see this happening.

Right now, we have about 12 GB worth of MODs to download, and I know there's a concerted effort by staff to reduce that number further, or at least to ensure that the overall size of the MOD package required to play on EU3 is kept as low as possible.  The more stuff people have to download, the more chance of a problem in installation; as well, it's just a pain to download a whack ton of MODs.

Next reason is the overall size of our player base.  An average night on Gauntlet produces about 15-20 people; this is not enough for infantry and combined arms.  If we do have a Hammer section it is a rarity.  Adding to the MOD package for such a small eventuality doesn't make sense.  Now, if we get our player base up to the 100+ mark, then it may be that we need to consider the number and types of armor available, in which case we should revisit this conversation.

As for British uniforms and gear, on principle I'd like to see a whole bunch of countries represented in this way, but again, the size of the MOD package makes it prohibitive.

Waskey-Wabit reacted to Someone in Feedback/thoughts on the 2016-01-29 Luetin PVP event
    Ahoy!
I though I could create a similar feedbak/thoguhts thread to the one Zhenylas created after the last PVP event with Luetin.

I think we could all agree on it being a little bit chaotic, with people not knowing what's going on, people being impatient, bringing in friends and similar disordingly behaviours. After playing the game and later watching the video of the stream, there are a few things that could perhaps be said to help on improving this experience. Luetin seemed somewhat frustrated, things didn't work out as intended and people didn't know what to do and how to act. This is simply a thread where we could try to discuss how to solve those issues and hopefully make these nights work better.

    Some initial thoughts
Luetin constantly had to repeat the rules and mindset of the mission to the players who joined late. He had to repeat himself several times, as new players joined and having to handle that while at the same time setting everything up is an unnessecary, tedious task which probably can be avoided, or at least improved on in the future.

My propsal to mend this issue would be that rather than having to repeat the same thing, over and over again, at every event, wouldn't it be better to have a pinned post on the forum with the basic rules which always applies to PVP nights? A pinned post, which would be mandatory to have read before joining the server, a post which you can link to the new players and explain that they must read it thoroughly and follow theese rules prior to joining. It isn't an entierly open event, one could at least expect the participants to read through some basic rules in order to get acces to playing.

The same post could be used over and over again, and thus make the briefing much shorter, with less works for both Raz and Luetin during gamenights.

Some suggested rules would be that people need to learn how to use the Virtual Arsenal prior to joining. You could even in the rules have a link to some youtube video of some guy explaining how to use it, and having people watch it and set up two barebones kits before they even join the server. Make it mandatory to have a basic NATO kit and a CSAT kit, or anything along those lines. Manny people didn't appear to have used the Virtual Arsenal, and having to explain and try to solve such basic things on the fly takes unnecessary time and focus.

Some people didn't quite understand when everything should start and there were some general confusion in TS an hour or so before the event were to start. You clearly stated the time and timezone, so people could easily have converted the time themselves, but apparently people still had issues doing this correctly.

I saw that Gopher (another streamer and Youtuber) used this link posted below to help his viewers convert the time to their local time. People shold be able to convert times themselves, so if it's a hassle, don't bother, but I think that a similar link to this under the initial post would have helped those people get in on time.
    http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=ELITE%3A+Dangerous+LIVE&iso=20160129T2130&p1=187&ah=2

    The missions
Luetin already seems to know what did and didn't work with the missions, but as a first time PVP night visitor I could aswell give my POV on how I experienced it, and perhaps try and give some insight in why I think things got somewhat confused.

    The first mission
On the first mission NATO knew where CSAT would come from, but as Luetin later stated, we in CSAT could have put our pilots to better use. We could have flown a squad in behind enemy lines without any real issues and thus working around that. Everything worked fine, we were just to slow to get moving in the first place and had some comunication errors between pilots and group leaders, but all in all everything seemed to work quite well. Even though the mission played out quite slow (again, our fault) it was a good mission and great fun.

    The second mission
There were some issues with how we would communicate with the hostage, but thanks to some good feedback from the stream a solution was found and the mission was quickly started.

During the seconds mission, CSAT didn't initially realize that the airfield would be guarded. I don't know if we didn't interpret the mission correctly or what happened there, because we didn't expect a full hostile base at that airfield. We had basically planned on hiding a few troops near the runway and grab the pilot as soon as he landed and got out of his jet. We flew in, had our hellcat fiered uppon and had to to ditch our "ambush" approach for another one on the fly.

Thankfully the mission didn't end with our hellcat getting fiered upon and the mission could continue. Unfortunately the mission later ended quite abruptly with the VIP getting shot. I don't have a solution to this, such things happens when people are tensed up. Perhaps an even mroe obvious outfit could have been used, but how obvious should one need to be? Anyways, theese things happends, it's a shame that it did, but there's no reason to get hungup on that.

    Other thoughts
As a person who's only played on EU 1 and 2 earlier, it was quite a step up in difficulty. We had 3 squads set up, 2 for ground units and 1 for pilots. As a pilot it was very difficult to keep track of what was going on on the ground, as we couldn't see the group markers. Telling friend from foe was difficult, but added a great ammount to immersion.

Going from a server where you can see teammates on the map, to one where you have to ask if the target is friendly or not, that's a big step up in difficulty. Going from a server where you can place a marker and have a waypoint show up to a server where you can't, that's a step up in difficulty. It really helped with the immersion, but I would also think that it was the reason behind some of the disorientation.

As a pilot, not having that waypoint was kind of weird in the beginning, you had to navigate using landmarks and spent alot of time watching the map, nothing which you're doing in EU 1 or 2. The renderdistance was rather short (forced by server?) and you couldn't always see the landmarks you expected to see. It wasn't as bad as it was for Luetin while landing that jet, but I personaly think that a slightly increased render distance while flying (if possible) would make navigation in aircrafts alot easier, either that, or simply keeping everyone in the same group so that the pilot can use the group tags to help and navigate from those.

    Conclusion
All in all I'm amazed. I watched the fist PVP night on the stream and it looked amazing. I wanted to be there, this was just the gameplay I was looking for. I created an account on Ahoyworld, played quite a bit on EU1 and 2, but I could never even have imagined how amazing theese PVP nights would be once you were there, experiencing it first hand.

Sure, everything didn't work out as intended. It took longer than expected to set up and the missions wouldn't work propperly etc, but all in all it was an amazing experience. I've played Arma 3 for 1000+ hours, but those few hours yesterday was by far the best hours I've ever had in Arma.

I really do hope that this one night of misfortune won't discourage Luetin from hosting anymore of theese nights, because I think I just fell in love with those nights.

That's about all I have to say, cheers and see you on the battlefield.

    Hello all,

I've put the finishing touches on the mission we'll be using for training on EU3, and because Insurgency 0.25 is a little bit behind, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and launch the training map this Friday.  Set in the small map of Shapur, US forces conduct training operations on a variety of topics.  This Friday, there will be training, and then at 20:30 something unexpected will happen outside the base walls that puts your training into practice...

    SIGNUP FORM HERE

Training nights are intended to introduce new EU3 players to the systems we play with on EU3, from ACE medical, to ACRE radios, and the gear included in all those gigabytes you downloaded.  In addition we relay to you the format in which we play missions and how we work as a team.  The training map has room for 48 players, made up of four squads with 10 trainees and 2 trainers each.

The purpose of Friday's game night is to test-run the training format, to ensure we have covered all the bases.  You can participate in training from 19:00 on (though I do ask if you're participating, please arrive by 18:45) or you can participate in the post training portion at 20:30.  If you want to join the server but don't want to participate in training, there are various areas in the base where you can practice other aspects of EU3 - long range target shooting, grenade throwing, a regular firing range- and ZEUS can set you up if you have other things you want to practice.

If players and MODs are interested in helping with training please message me through these forums, Steam or TS and I'll gladly appreciate the help.  Ideally we'll have 2 trainers for each 10 trainees.  Though if advanced players and/or staff want to participate as Trainees to stress-test the system, I won't mind that either!

I look forward to seeing you on Friday!

Waskey-Wabit reacted to Josh in AhoyWorld Start of the year update
Hello fellow Ahoyworlders! Welcome to 2016! We hope everyone had a good, enjoyable festive season. This post is just going to somewhat be a start of year update of what is going on internally and externally here at AhoyWorld and what you can expect over the coming weeks.

    New moderators!

It’s with great pleasure that I announce six new moderators to the EU#3. Young Wolf, Ryko, Miksi, Gamerhero, Origins and Icy. I hope you can all join me in welcoming them to the team.
We’re always continuing to look for new moderators and admins to join our ranks.

How do you join the team? We don’t work on an application system. The way we work is that one of the team will suggest you in our private forums. Then everyone on the team who has experience with said member will input how they feel this member would do. At the end of the process the Admin Liaison takes all the input and makes the final overall decision.

    EU#3 and the mods!

So with Gauntlet no longer being supported we move onto its successor, Valiant.
Valiant is in the depths of testing at the moment and is not to far away from being publicly released to EU#3. We also moved EU#3 to a new, separate box all just for EU#3. Taking the pressure off flagship which already runs EU#1 and 2, Teamspeak, Squad and a few others.

Moving onto the mods and the repo. We’re looking into plans to thin down some of the repo. Mainly looking to remove mods which we can use some of the current larger mods instead of. But more details of this will come in the coming weeks.

For new and current users we’re working on a whole EU#3 section on the website. This means you’ll no longer have to browse the forums for the guide, rules, and such like. However all discussion about the server will continue in the forums. We believe this will allow newer users a more friendly approach and easy to locate information.

We also just introduced the new Report forms system. They can be found here.
These forms are to be used to report trouble makers, bugs and issues, and give any feedback/ideas that you have. We’d really like to see these been used regularly and moving away from everyone starting threads in the forums about these type of things.

The Moderator team came together over the weekend to discuss a list of matters with EU#3. Just to report some of things on the plate:
Planned re-structure of the “Experienced @EU#3” tag. Also the addition of an XML for it.
Updated the pinned threads in the EU#3 Forums (WIP)
    EU#3 video trailer competition.
Other matters which will come to light in the near future.

The EU#3 video trailer competition will be announced at the end of this week/start of next. For those whom want to start collecting video footage.

    AhoyWorld Summer Meet up!

For those of you who haven’t yet seen AhoyWorld is hosting a Summer meetup this year July 15th-18th In the North of Holland. If this is something you’d be interested in please check the post here. I recommend you be quick as places are limited.

    Donators!

As most of you know last year saw the end to the Ahoy+ scheme in which donations were done through a set fee, recurring payment. In its place we now have Ahoy Donators. This program allows for you to donate any amount you wish and you can choose if you’d like it to be recurring or just a one off payment.

Waskey-Wabit reacted to Ryko in Insurgency update (0.23)
    Hi folks,

Here's what's happening for the next version (0.23) of Insurgency:
Turned the helicopter crew (Sierra) into a Pilot/Co-pilot crew, and added an additional 2-man group (Romeo), so now there are 4 helicopter crew in total (2 pilots, 2 co-pilots). Changed 3x Little Birds to 2x UH-1Y (unarmed) Hueys and 1x Little Bird (M6-HM). Added Tango squad.  This three-man team is a recon squad, dressed in Takistani clothing and armed to match; they will be able to travel icognito in Fallujah in order to surveil the operation areas.  They don't show up on your map as BLUFOR, so coordination will be key (they do have a PRC148 to communicate with MARSOC); if they get too close to OPFOR, their cover will be blown.  Civilians treat them as regular OPFOR, as will Independent resistance fighters. Added Whiskey squad as Platoon Command. This two-man team consists of the Platoon Commander and a JTAC radio operator to coordinate with Romeo and Sierra. Added an 8-man squad on the Independent side; this is just in case we have another run on the server.  So now there are 45 slots in total.  If need be I'll add more Independent squads. Fixed a few loadouts: The Medic has a lot more medical supplies (thanks Minipily), the Sniper has a PRC-343 and a new scope (Kahlia). Added para-drops for helicopter cargo, as you can see here:

More to come!  Hopefully I'll be in a position to host another game night this coming Friday.

The event for this Friday for a bit of fun will be a pvp dogfight...however it will be guns only.
Please please please try and pick something a bit more interesting than an F15/Su27.
Hit me up here with whatever you want to fly in. It will be hot starts (no startup procedures)

It'll be on normal release NOT ALPHA OR BETA... just standard

Waskey-Wabit reacted to kamaradski in NEW EU#3 SERVER
    TL:DR - The Ip-address & Port for EU#3 change to: 136.243.150.72:2302

New dedicated server to host Ahoyworld Arma3 EU#3 & Space engineers !

Donated to Ahoyworld by Christiansen (yes fully paid from his own pocket, so THANKS CHRIS !!) we are proud to announce we have a brand new dedicated server up and running.

    Name of this server:
    - Keeping the shiptheme of our other servers (Flagship & LaCapitana) This server will be called: Valliant

    Purpose of this server:
    - Dedicated Space Engineers instance
    - Arma3 EU#3

    What is it ?
    - Bare-metal dedicated server hosted in a German datacenter
    - Intel® Core™ i7-6700 Quad-Core Skylake
    - 32 GB DDR4 RAM
    - 2 x 500 GB SATA 6 Gb/s SSD
    - Windows 2012 R2

    Why EU#3 ?
Moving EU#3 (resource intensive with all mods etc..) will leave more CPU power available on Flagship for EU#1 & EU#2, while having the opportunity to dedicate 4 CPU's of the new server only to EU#3. Performance should therefore increase for all our Arma instances.

Make sure to say thanks to Chris for this server when you happen to bump into him, and please post any performance related comments in this thread while we fine-tune the new setup.

Waskey-Wabit reacted to Pancake in The life and works of David Bowie - A remembrance event - 16/1/16
Hey folks, just to make you aware I'll be hosting an event this coming Saturday to celebrate the legacy of Bowie and mourn his passing. He was a pioneer in everything he did, inspired many great artists with his work and entranced generations.

The event will be on teamspeak, live from 12pm GMT onwards until 19.30pm. As this is a remembrance event, the music box will have speaking priority and anyone being disruptive over the music will be kicked and should they persist, staff will be contacted for harsher punishment. Singing along is encouraged, so long as no one is asking you to stop.

The rota for the event will be a playlist of Bowies work and a few tracks from well known artists he inspired to get into music, from Iggy Pop to Midge Ure.

See you folks there and I hope you have a good time. If an admin could shift this to the events sub forum I would appreciate it, wouldn't let me create this in there.
