Call me sceptical, but from what I can see
from the screens they've applied a few ReShade / SweetFX tweaks to the lighting & contrasts, make is nice & bright to look at it is the Mediterranean after all

    Pros
turned down the view distance & added a haze at long range (should reduce the render process a bit) + for fps
Murrkied the waters (reduce the under water render & view distancea bit) + for fps

    Cons
Undo all the FPS +'s by adding a mirror render reflections to water surface -for fps (huge fps dump)
to quote "Speaking of which, in terms of performance, the new lighting configuration itself should have have no impact; however, terrains with a lot of shoreline may be slightly impacted, due to the new approach to rendering water on the coast. Although we expect the new Screen Space Reflections tech will be more demanding"

    We'll see maybe good

top Sweet FX off (default graphics)
    bottom Sweet FX on
now add in some haze and your golden

    Mods: Standard EU3
    Player Count: 34 each side
    Loadouts: Pre-set
Mission Length: 30 minutes (at least best of 3 rounds)

The mission for this Team vs Team night will be Operation Whirlwind, a new mission set on the Proving Grounds map of CUP Terrains.  It is a sector control mission.

BLUFOR is US Marines, OPFOR is Russian Spetsnaz.  Both teams have access to basic vehicles and one armored vehicle: for BLUFOR it's a LAV-25, for OPFOR it's a BTR-70.

Each team has 100 tickets.  There are four sectors to control.  Each time a player dies, their team loses a ticket.  Taking a sector restores 10 tickets.  The teams begin locked in their base; they have two minutes to prepare a plan, after which point barricades are removed, and they have 30 minutes to win the mission.

If all four sectors are taken by one side, the mission is over; if either side loses all its tickets, the mission is over; if the timer reaches 0, the mission is over.

    Said assistant autorifle man here:
Default loadout contains a lot of rather random stuff (2x suppressors, bipod,...), earplugs missing, that "force" loads on every Arsenal interaction.
Default loadout uniform was a shirt.
Maybe it's possible to add MG-ammo access for the assistant AR?
An arsenal on the captured airfield would be nice if one has to re-equip after spawning there.
Other then that, this was certainly on of the best experiences on the server in a long time.
    Really good work on it.

So long overdue its here, the PTC-2(Public Test Candidate)

    What's this?

Its a test to iron out and find any bugs in the current codebase of Valiant. Its testing of how it flows from mission start untill we have boots on ground and have captured the first airfield that starts the missions.

Caching of enemies, pre-init preloaded role specific VA to cut down on loading times ingame etc.

    What this isn't

A finished product, as the name implies its a test candidate and it should be expected that stuff might break or no be as complete as you want it to be but I hope you see past that and play withing the constraints that are in the current form of the mission(Whining and general idiocy will be met with a shutdown of the server for the rest of the night.)

    When is it ?

    I am aiming for 2000 GMT @ 9th April

    What do I need?

Standard EU3 modset and optional beer(Im bringing alot)

    What does this acomplish?

Helps me get feedback on the current mission flow and evaluate if it is working as intended and in the long run help me give YOU a smooth (criminal?) mission to play on.
As if this test is non-eventful I hope to shift my attention to the feature side of things in the mission

But I cant make it but want to watch?

Fear not, for as I need to run monitoring of stuff(s) in the background and generally whizz around in freecam and\or zeus ill be live streaming it. I will update here with the stream link(YT gaming) so that you can watch on anyone of the devices you own(or steal you friends tablet).

    Afterwords

There will be no signup however treat this as a fully fledged gamenight with added strictness on fucking about as that steals a lot of time and will slow down the testing considerably.
So I hope for a good turnup and hopefully everything will go smooth =)

I'm getting the feeling you just "glanced through" at the EU3 rules and "clicked accept" just to get that oh so desired TS password. I'm sure the admins are head over heels for that comment.

You can add the password to your launcher, so you don't need to enter it each time.

There is a precedent set by having the TS password revealed via the rules page, because at some point it was decided this was a necessary step to help upkeep the server rules (doesn't matter how effective you think it is), which in my opinion should be reciprocated on the server.

Let me play devils advocate - If the TS password is not technically required (e.g. a throw-over from TFAR), then why do we still have it, and why is it revealed via the rules page.

I agree, as ACRE is required to play, the ACRE channel has a password so why doesn't the server have that same password. Like Parabolic suggests it will minimize the number of people who are in the server however haven't read through the rules to find said team-speak channel password! In my opinion that wouldn't harm the population on the server! Just reduce the people who haven't read through the rules

    Thanks

Titangames98 reacted to ParabolicAJB in EU#3 Server Password
I am suggesting that the EU#3 server is passworded with the same password used for the ACRE TS channel.
    My reasons for this are:-
    - Rules state you must use TS to play on EU#3.
    - This would stop 'randoms' connecting who don't have the mods, only for them to be kicked (this may or may not have any resource impact on the server, but every little helps).
    - It would reduce new players joining who don't have the TS password and remain in the lobby (many frustrations caused by players in-game not responding, only to find they are not in TS channel /TS at all).
    - This would further help ensure players joining have read the rules, which is a prerequisite for getting the TS password.
    - This would not negatively impact the accessibility of the server, as players who are 'fit to play' (have read rules etc.) will have the password.
    - Only downside I can see is it adds a small admin overhead of having to reinstate the PS after a Gamenight etc.
    Regards, Alex.
Just to add one more point, the TS password is (presumably) to stop players not in game from disrupting the comms/channel, therefore I think on balance, a password to stop players in game but not on TS from disrupting play would be a positive change.

The initial ban was done for what you are saying and admitting to, harrasing a certain individual. It`s not according to our social standards and will be always punished. It was a 24 hour ban, but due your history, it`s been changed to a permanent one (see below).

I`ve also been shown a stream where you are promoting to call that individual a certain word. That was recorded a couple days before the person was banned for trying to shoot you in base. It shows that you are trying to provoke him and getting him kicked/banned. That is crossing a line where you should never go and I believe you`ve gone beyond the point of return. You`ve admitted in the video that you`ve done that before and it worked. It`s called bullying and is not and will not be tolerated on our servers. You`ve recieved warnings about other stuff before, you`ve even been banned for a week for teamkilling on EU3, you clearly don`t wish to abide to a couple of rules.

Second note about this. EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY HAS THE RIGHT TO RESPOND TO A THREAD EVEN IF IT MIGHT NOT EFFECT THEM. Do not tell people that they can not/should not comment on a topic because they don't play on a certain server. I think that Ryko put it best. Hi Kieran,

I look at the employment of this mod from a performance point of view, rather than what it can do for the mission.  If it fixed certain problems I don't like with Arma's AI - namely, that enemies can shoot you through foliage while you can only see a pixel of them - then I would be very enthusiastic for it.  Looking at the MOD, it doesn't seem to address that specifically, but there are a few other performance-impacting elements that it does address, which could be useful.

In light of the above, I think on maps like Takistan, Fallujah and Zargabad, this AI enhancement could be very entertaining.  But on Chernarus, or any other tree-heavy map, I think it'll be a nightmare.  It's hard enough fighting the enemy you can't see through the trees, but if they actually flank around intelligently?  You'll have people leaving in droves.

I haven't looked in-depth into the scripting support for the MOD - there seems to be some - but if there is some capacity to adjust the difficulty, then that could be a mitigating factor.

The other thing to consider is the interaction with other MODs; the author supplies AI Config MODs for third-party MODs like RHS, but admits they may be out of date.  Adding a MOD only to have it fail with other MODs creates more problems than it solves.

ARMA gives the AI some advantages to make up for the fact that it can't make them intelligent: to do so would be to add a whole layer of scripting that would bog down the performance of the game (which this MOD may well do).

To summarize, as a player, I'd be game to try it, but as someone who's trying to get some stability out of Gauntlet, I'm reluctant to add more variables to the mix.

I personally have played against AI while running this mod while helping the Colliers test their missions and I only have two words.
    Absolutely. Terrifying.
For one the enemies run for cover when they get shot. They push towards your position. They try to flank you. They circle you. They bombard you with GL fire if they have the means.
It's exponentially harder. And proportionally fun.

Myself and Horatio, along with anyone else who has helped us test either our Soviet Intervention Mission or our Hearts and Minds Mission will have encountered an AI mod that we used to increase the difficulty of the opposition or at least attempt to make it feel like we were against a semi-conscious enemy. The differences can be seen in many you tube videos and such  however the best way to experience the difference made by these mods is by the following:

Download an AI Enhancement Mod :

    http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=24080

Download and extract the file to your ArmA 3 Directory just like any other mod however you need to make sure to move the "userconfig" folder out of the "@ASR_AI3" into the ArmA Directory. Then check your "userconfig" folder within the directory and it should look something like this:

This will contain the setting files which allows you to customize some of the parameters within the mod.

    Obtain a Mission to Test:

You can either just create a short scenario (with way-points for best effect) and play this mission with the AI Enhancer. No modules or advanced editing required.
OR alternatively use my pre-made mission here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u9in0hiq1wdz5om/ASR_Showcase.Shapur_BAF.pbo?dl=0

Place that mission into the "MPMissions" within the Arma 3 Directory for use in multiplayer. Or extract it with PBO tools and place into "C:\Users\MyComputer\Documents\Arma 3 - Other Profiles\YourUserName\missions" for use in the editor to alter the mission and preview.

What does the rest of the community think? Do you like the AI how it is? Or would you like to see these mods in use? Possibly in a Gamenight?

    Cheers ,
                   Kieran

Titangames98 reacted to SkullCollector in The Fireteam Leader's Field Manual
    Hello lovely people of AWE,

There is always room for leaders and it's fantastic to see players step up to the responsibility of command. For the newcomers to the role, it can often be hard to find a starting point amidst the pressure.
To this end, I’d like to offer some basic advice for beginners and old-timers alike.

Treat this like a checklist to go over while waiting for deployment. A field manual, if you will.

    Your fireteam
Depending on the exact composition of your specific team and the mission at hand, you will generally have an automatic rifleman, his assistant and two riflemen under you, totalling a team of five. The actual number ranges from 4 to 6.

You are the fireteam leader, or (F)TL. On the battlefield, you are the bottom-most strategic planner, but the top-most tactical leader. This means that, of all chief positions, you have the most direct control over how specific nuances of the plan are carried out.

Your second-in-command is the automatic rifleman, or AR. He will assume leadership if you are KIA or combat-ineffective, and he carries the most firepower. Make sure to utilise him well, as his light machine gun can easily turn the tide of an engagement.

A specialist can assume a variety of roles specific to a certain team. An engineer is useful for repairs, bomb disposal and demolitions, whereas a designated marksman supplements a team's effectiveness at range, in suppression and picks off high-priority targets such as MANPADs or other sharpshooters.
Certain missions may introduce other specialist roles. The specialist often dictates which role you play in an assault; a marksman combined with your AR turns you into the ideal cover element, while a breacher or engineer suggests you be the forward element. Play to your strengths.

Finally, you have up to two riflemen who might be grenadiers or carry anti-tank launchers, or one might even take on the role of an ammo bearer. Consider them your all-round assets. Think about having at least one AT launcher at your disposal.

    Moving on.

Lead by example. A good fireteam leader will be up front and in the middle of an engagement, fighting and suppressing like any indiscriminate member of his team. He will keep his cool and observe the situation to adjust stance, priority targets and the team’s advance as necessary.

Micromanage & be concise. As a rule of thumb, your squad leader will tell you where to go, whereas you decide how to go there. Having an eye on your team is essential, so make sure everyone knows what their job is. Give easily understandable orders to reduce questions and misunderstandings to a minimum.

Show tactical initiative. Your SL is always delayed. You know the plan and the commander's intent, but you also know what is going on right then and there, so use that to your advantage. Be disciplined about this and use good judgement when adjusting your tactics.

    In the field
Secure your flanks. Never let your guard down and choose the formation most suitable for the situation. If you travel and have to stop, form as close to a circle as you can while utilising cover and concealment. Order your team to face and secure all cardinal directions.

Use buddy teams. A buddy team is a unit of two soldiers, usually assigned a colour for easy access (helping you be concise!). The AR and AAR should be one by default, but their compositions are up to you. These will bound together, cover one another and perform various tasks you assign them as a single element. Sometimes you don’t need them, but it is better to assign teams at base while you can. Organise with your fellow team leaders to avoid overlapping colours, causing confusion on radio call-outs.

    Awareness
Know your team. Be aware of who your AR is and familiarise yourself with the skills of each individual member. A quick quality check is to let them assign their colours themselves, so if they ask how to do it, you know they are more or less beginners. Keep an eye on them and treat them well, and help them as much as the situation allows. Again, lead by example.

Account for your team. Make sure no one is left behind during travel or bleeds out without medical care after hard contact. You are expected to rally up your team in a timely manner, and should always be the last to get into a transport vehicle when deploying to or exfiltrating from a mission site. Let your SL know that your team is loaded up.

Update your SL. Acknowledge orders and succinctly relay information to him. You are his eyes and ears on the battlefield, and he relies on you to enhance and execute his plans. If you take contact, let him know. If you have KIA or wounded soldiers, let him know. If you need fire support, let him know. Do not take long-range radios with you. Rely on the chain of command.

Exert voice discipline. Make no mistake, we are here for the fun. But if you hear the call of banter, keep it to local and do not clutter the radio channels. Control your voice volume appropriately. Pass this on to your team, as you are responsible for their actions.

Be nice. We all have fantasies about Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, but ask yourself if you would like to be shouted at while playing a game. Your orders have to be carried out, yes, but a simple please goes a long way. At the end of the day, we are all playing pretend with guns on the internet, so keep this in mind and you will not share Gunny Hartman’s fate.

    Useful phrases

Obviously there's a lot of room for deviation, but if you feel there is something critically wrong, feel free to comment.
Have no fear, and remember to open your mouth. Communication is key.

    Cheers.
