I will keep this brief,
 
As you've all probably noticed Piranha hasn't been around much lately, this is due to a number of reasons which I won't go into, so with a heavy heart he has decided that it would be best for the community to step down from his leadership role and hand the reins over to me.
 
This isn't my first rodeo, and I'm sure further down the line I may make mistakes, possibly big mistakes, and bad decisions that not many people may agree with. Nevertheless what I can bring to the table is openness, transparency and hopefully stability.
 
There are a few areas that I will be looking to improve on; clarity of roles, community engagement and most importantly communication within staff.
 
I hope that you will all back me through this difficult period and be patient with me in trying to turn this community around.
 
Remember, if you have any ideas/suggestions please bring them to us, we are always looking to improve.
 
Lastly, I would like to thank @PiranhA for his contribution and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.

This is just a brief update on what's been happening internally and externally in AhoyWorld.
 
First, I would like to thank you all for the kind words regarding the change over.
It certainly has been an eventful few weeks. There has been a lot of discussions involving finances, staff structure, activity and how we can improve upon them.
First change I'd like to announce is how the staff structure is displayed: this will clarify the roles of each member and make easier to know who reports to who.

Second change made is how we as staff communicate.
 
We've been using Telegram for the last few years for business-related chats, quick-fire questions and response and felt that it was time to move on. So without further ado, we have finally decided to migrate over to Discord. 
We felt that by doing this we could better accommodate you guys which should help us engage and interact with our members more. Being a gaming platform, hopefully it will expose and grow AhoyWorld again.

Now's also a good time to confirm something we teased a few weeks ago: Invade & Annex 4.
We have been hard at work developing the sequel to Invade & Annex, rewriting the mission from scratch with an emphasis on efficiency and security, meaning more fps and (hopefully) less hacking. We'll be running an open beta test in the near future, so stay tuned.
 
And lastly, I would like to take a moment to thank all the staff for their hard work behind the scenes, especially @Ryko for his rigorous testing and development of I&A4 and @GhostDragon for maintaining the back end stuff to making sure that you all have a smooth and enjoyable experience within AhoyWorld.

Then I don`t know how, your ban was somehow deleted from the logs (might have something to do with some internal stuff we were busy with) and you got banned again for advertising another Teamspeak address on September 10th. This time you used the name of DevilsUrn.

Then you came on Teamspeak and decide to annoy one of the admins about your ban. He has pointed you towards the forums and ban appeals, but you said no, you ain`t gonna do that. I do have that chat saved. You joined the next day and procceded with same behaviour. We had enough of you and banned you of Teamspeak.

I do have to be honest and share my opinion with you. If you would kept your temper and posted a ban appeal, a lot of stuff could have been discussed in it. You refused that and now you are posting this "flame" topic. Seriously, why? Is there something bothering you IRL? Trolled for telling an admin that there was no need to be kicked. Banned by AhoyWorld admin for shits and giggles. Banned again on Tanoa for advertisement. That's right, I copied and pasted once! TeamSpeak information in group chat. The result was a mass exodus because you couldn't control that itch. Banned for ban avoidance. As if that is at all possible. Team killing the team killers so that the rest of the server would do well is a criminal act – I accept that ban with pride. Yet, you were told why verbally over the coms. Yet still allow them instigators to game on - shameful.

You can find the IPs on the Frontpage of Ahoyworld.net. Just scroll down to the bottom and you will see the Server widgets, or you can connect to our Teamspeak at ts.ahoyworld.net and look the IPs up in the channel descriptions of the Server you want to join (e.g. EU1, EU2).

Paratroopers in the kind of mission we run are not only pointless but outright dangerous. Not only that they don't achieve anything that regular troops can't do better, they also endanger themself and anyone in the Helicopter, the vehicle itself included.
 
I would rather not see people "start doing it" as this usually leads to losses in lives and equipment. And all that just to have a justification to jump out of an aircraft?

there´s a few things i´d lik to add when it comes to UAV Op - basically you only got two priorities :
 
CAS support (Radiotower,MBT,inf Strongholds)
and
Overwatch / High Reconnaissance
 
and therefor on both of those dutys COMMUNICATION is key.
Either when being called for LD´d targets,tell your crew on ground what is happening and the time schedule its happening.
Nothing is more anti-morale than sittting on pos and forever waiting for nothing to happen.
 
When a AO is close to finish,get your Greyhawks to service and back in the air BEFORE a new Area of Operation opens,cause most def the first guys near/into AO will praise heaven when a UAV Op is rdy to take the job.
 
 
 
 
 

Hello everybody. I've decided to make a guide on how to operate the UAV's.
I will be covering pretty much everything, from take-off to bombing with the UAV.
Before I start, I would like to credit Alganthe and Jason for their help creating this guide.
 
The guide will be split up in the following parts
Take-off Waypoints  Weapons on the UAV Bombing  Beginners tips Each part of the guide will be indicated clearly, so it will be easy to skip one part if you'd like
 
1. Take-off
- Open up your UAV terminal. Connect to the greyhawk you wish to operate.
- Taxi the Greyhawk to the runway and put your flaps all the way down.
- Take-off! Remember to put your landing gear back up by pressing G (default) or using scrolling to do it.
 
2. Waypoints
Whenever I play as a UAV Operator, I usually make my drones loiter around the AO awaiting targets.
You will need to keep it at an altitude on 2000m to avoid being shot down by AA.
To change the settings of a waypoint, simply right-click on it. Going to "Behavior" and selecting "Never fire" will ensure that your drone doesn't shoot off GBU's on its own when spotting an enemy.
This way you can also change whether you want your drone to be loitering or just moving to your selected location. 
 
3. Weapons on the UAV
The Greyhawk is armed with 2 bombs named GBU. That means you will only be able to strike twice before having to return to the base rearming, which can be quite time consuming. Therefore be precise when dropping those bombs!
The Greyhawk is also equipped with a "laser marker", making you able to lase targets for other drones or the wipeout. 
Pro tip: If you want your laser to lock onto something, press CTRL + T while aiming at that target to make your laser stay on it. If it's a tank it will move along with the tank and if it's a Radio Tower it will be staying on that tower even though your drone is moving around.
 
4. Bombing 
When someone is laser designating a target for you (or if you're lasering it yourself from your gunner):
- Make sure to be approaching the target from the same direction they're lasing from.
- Take controls of the driver and switch to manual fire.
- Make sure you're selecting your GBU's (press F to toggle)
- Now you gotta dive down a bit while pressing R until you see a square showing on the ground.
- Wait for a "diamond / circle shaped"-figure to appear in the middle of that square, and once it does fire your GBU.
 
5. Beginners tips
- You can activate base anti-air before taking off to make sure you won't get shot down by enemy CAS.
- If it's your first time flying the drones, try sticking with "loitering" as this is what you will be using the most.
- The options for loitering will determine the range the UAV will be circulating in.
- The GBU's are laser guided bombs.
- Lasering from the Greyhawk is unreliable since it's very shaky, therefore it's recommended to use the Darter-drone and make that laser designate for you.
- Try not to drop down below 1500m when bombing to avoid getting shot.
- If you feel uncomfortable flying the Greyhawk you can try downloading a sandbox mission and practicing offline.
- When flying the greyhawk at 2000m you need to change your view distance to be able to see the ground using your camera. To do this, go to the HQ at spawn, go to the Arsenal-guy and find the "View distance"-button. Now you have to edit "on foot" to somewhere around 4000 depending on your loitering radius.
 
If your Greyhawk blows up upon connecting to it at the hangar do the following:



 
Please keep in mind that you may not go bombing as you please.
Same rules applies to you as to the buzzard, you have to be called in! 
So wait for someone to call for air assistance and then you can laser yourself or get someone to laser for you.
Of course you may loiter around the AO calling out targets for the ground infantry, but no bombing unless requested.

Over the last while we have noticed a trend on the public servers of piloting getting steadily worse. One way pilots, constantly crashing pilots, pilots abandoning aircraft, pilots unable to land to list but a few of the issues.
 
These rules changes will not affect competent pilots.
Pilots are in charge of their aircraft they should make all efforts to keep the aircraft airworthy.
If aircraft are damaged they need to be fixed, not destroyed. If this means getting a repair specialist to travel to fix the aircraft so be it.  
Flying in a manner conducive to having you aircraft destroyed will result in discipline.
These rules will be enforced and pilots will be expected to abide by them.
The respawn time on Aircraft will be increased to encourage better flying.
 
They will be coming into effect on 01.04.16
Pilots seen to be breaking the rules will be asked to leave the pilots slot in which case they should return the aircraft to spawn and switch roles. If they refuse they will be kicked and if we see repeat offenders we will be forced to ban.
 
Examples of Poor Piloting:
Misuse of aircraft: CAS with the AA jet, practising, showboating and wasting resources. Landing too close, or flying over, the AO. It shows the pilot is not aware of the situation around him and if it results in the lost of aircraft or team mates will considered destroying assets or teamkilling. Abandoning aircraft in the field, this is all to prevalent and steps will be taken to weed out pilots who do this. Making no effort to repair damaged aircraft. Allowing your door gunners to teamkill. It's the pilot's responsibility to lock turrets. Teamkills will be attributed to the Pilots. Pilots should make a reasonable attempt to land if damaged. For example engine failure or tail rotor loss are not unrecoverable. If you don't know what autorotation is you simply should not be flying a helicopter. Not repairing aircraft in the field. If your aircraft is repairable then it must be repaired. While these are not technically new rules they will be enforced much more actively, and it is the pilots responsibility to make sure you are able to fly within the rules.

So what is changing?
 
As I said in the meeting nothing will be changing immediately, I need to survey properly where our weaknesses are and how we can improve. I will however be looking at the following:
 
Improving coordination between staff members.
 
At present it is difficult to keep track of user records, in particular users who have been warned but not banned, it is easily lost information and tracking will become tedious if it’s not done properly. It won’t happen overnight and it will require careful planning.
 
Improve communication from staff to the community.
 
It was raised in the meeting that quite often things are pushed through without consulting with the community, this is a problem all through the ranks not just between users and admins. I recently made a judgement call which blew up quite spectacularly which highlighted the fact this is prevalent everywhere, we knew it was a problem, but underestimated the extent to which it reached. Consultations will be on the up!
 
Removal of the US server
 
I brought this up in the meeting, it costs us £85 per calender month, was hosting Squad which is not populated and not bringing us any income. It was incredibly quick to resolve, here’s why:
 
 
Graduated offences
 
Something I have been looking at is a graduated offences system, instead of warning, kick and ban for all broken rules there would be 2 or 3 thresholds, racism would be your top tier and get you and instant permanent ban from our servers whereas spamming VON would land you a warning. Another possible avenue was different consideration dependant on membership status. This is just at idea phase.
 
EU3 Mods & Spartans
 
We have all regarded Spartans and EU3 Mods as the same rank, it isn’t clear though. I am not a fan of different routes for different play styles as it may not be equal, one route may favour another. I’m not sure what to do with this as I don’t really want to shake these up too much. Again, this is just an idea.
 
Community engagement
 
Our current community engagement is very low, far lower than it should be. Basically a lot of our admins don’t play on EU1/2 a lot, this means we don’t engage with the non members and that means they don’t become members. My plan is to drive up community engagement, gain members, promote people into the lower ranks (Field Ambassador etc) more frequently to end up with a broader admin team, this spreads out the workload for admins and in turn makes playing on EU1/2 less stressful for them, making them more likely to play. In short, not playing on EU1/2 means it’s more work in the long run.
 
Regular community meetings
 
Something we are lacking is meeting with the members, we do it from time to time but nowhere near enough to really connect, I’m aiming for quarterly.
 
Delegation
 
Both my predecessors got caught up with was delegation. I work away during the week but I keep in contact via the forums, both my predecessors found themselves trying to do so much and ultimately succumbing to stress. I’ve been a part of communities where the owner eventually took his own life, I have no plans to get in that deep. I can’t afford to be trying to do everything, I work away during the week and the rest of the admin team have my complete trust and are more than capable of making educated decisions about their sectors for me not to worry about them. I aim to be guides on the side of a bowling alley and nothing more.
 
Taking suggestions to the top
 
I can’t stress this enough, we will always listen to you, you can come to us any time on TeamSpeak with a suggestion, failing TeamSpeak we have the ideas forum, specifically for this, please don’t be hesitant in bringing things to us, we don’t bite.
 
New website
 
For a while we have been developing a new website and this was discussed in the meeting this evening, it’s not been a matter of urgency and it’s not an overnight job. We were planning for wordpress, it’s on the cards for the future, but it’s not our top priority.
 

 
Raz has done a fantastic job for the last two and a half years since Rarek left in which was not a clean break. Leading from this is remarkable and we have made great strides in the years. It truly is incredible. I have known Raz for over 7 years, I am nearly 22, that’s over 30% of my life and he has been nothing but a great friend to me.

Now on to me, I will make mistakes, I am not perfect, I do not have a handbook, I do not have any business or management experience. I got to where I am by making good decisions, but I will no doubt bring some terrible ideas to the table and horrific mistakes. I managed to delete half of TeamSpeak and the entirety of EU3 throughout my time here and I will continue to make mistakes (although I hope these are few and far between) and I rely on you the community, to tell me when I am making errors.
 

I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone here in the community a Merry Christmas! I hope everyone has a good holiday season, and i hope we all have a good Christmas and a happy new year!
 
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the guys who make AW work, from members, donators, Field ambassadors, Moderators on EU#3, Admin and Corestaff, we wouldn't be able to have this amazing community without all of you doing your bit! This has to be one of the most hospitable and awesome communities i have ever been part of. 
Just make sure to help out each other over the holiday as the servers fill up and demand for AW actions increase, help to make this holiday a good one for gaming and socializing!

So waking up this morning I realised it was my 1 year anniversary of officially becoming a part of AhoyWorld!
 
There are quite a few people not around any more since I joined (coincidence? Hmmm) but for those who have been around both since the first day and any day since thanks for making me feel like a valued part of this great community and here's to another year!
