And when I first came too, there was literally no restrictions back then and people managed just fine.

In fact I remember teams coordinating to have the same weapon platforms so they could share ammo etc without even being asked to.

Add to that everyone actually looked the part, ie not wearing pure white camo on a green terrain map...if only we could return to those days

AhoyWorld Enhanced perhaps? That has squad play with command structure, ROE and much more.

We also run plenty of game nights there with proper structure and command and a reasonably large amount of players.

Due to popular demand, I've updated this mission file to contain two additional AT ranges. One for practicing airburst kills, and the other a live-fire range where there's infantry and armor that WILL fire back at you.

The original post is edited to contain the updated file.

Hello and welcome to the revised ACE Medical Guide: 2020 Edition.

This guide aims to be a comprehensive resource for the dedicated medic; to steel yourself with knowledge first so that you can hone it in combat. It will send you on a journey to become the best medic you can be.
It does not offer panacea. That's just called a packing bandage. It does offer the basis you need to understand the inner and outer workings of ACE Medical with an attempt to dispel some common myths.

You can find two proven sample loadouts at the very end of the document, as well as a spreadsheet with all the data there is about bandages.

For an easier read, here it is on Google Docs.
Link: ACE Advanced Medical Guide v2.3 (2020 Rework)

The GDoc is always going to be the most up-to-date version, but if you prefer PDF, here you are:
The PDF is now very much outdated. I will update it with the 2.4 revision, which will include a flowchart and procedure.

Lindi reacted to GandalfTheCray in AT Practice Range - Mission File
    Hi all

Recently on AWE there's been a few people saying things along the lines of "damn, I need practice with the AT4".

Attached to this post is a mission file containing five AT firing ranges:
One on flat ground in the salt flats, One on top of a hill shooting down, One at the bottom of a hill shooting up, An airburst range, and finally... A live-fire range where you can choose from a set of limited equipment and engage targets that WILL fire back at you. There will be infantry scattered throughout a town and the surrounding area, and the town will contain IFVs, APCs and an MBT.
You can teleport to each of the ranges using the scroll wheel menu, and there's a few resupply crates at each. Practice your skills with the AT4, M72, RPG-7, RPG-26, SMAW and MAAWS at distances ranging from 100m to 1.2km and at varying angles of elevation.

The file is unbinarized so you can easily tweak the .sqf to your heart's content.

Step-by-step instructions (if you don't know how to run the mission file):
    1) Download and unzip the file below.
    2) Copy the unzipped version into your Arma 3 "missions" directory for your character's profile. For me, this is in Documents\Arma 3 - Other Profiles\GandalfTheCray\missions.
    3) Boot up Arma with the AWE modset and launch into the Eden Editor (any map).
    4) Click "Open", select "Missions" from the left-hand box and you should find "ATRange".
    5) Open ATRange and launch in singleplayer using the button in the bottom right of the editor!

Lindi reacted to JaSmAn in "Play your Role"
The clue is in the definition of "role", which according to that so infrequently used tool called the dictionary is: the position or purpose that someone or something has in a situation

Position - where you sit in the hierarchy - obey orders. Don't give them if you're not supposed to.
Purpose - what are you there to do? Do you have the right kit to do it? In other words, let the medics do their stuff, pilots to their stuff, etc. Do what's expected of you and respect what others do.
Situation - Know the mission, know the orders. Adapt accordingly. Play according to the situation. For example, my AT guy gets killed, I'm the Medic, his AT launcher is right there and the BMP that is killing my teammates is within range. Should I, as the medic, shoot the BMP? I think yes, the situation demands it. Does that mean that I as the medic walk around with an AT launcher just in case? No.

Lindi reacted to JaSmAn in Spawn mechanics?
@Lindi yes, it's that mission I'm referring to.

It may have just been my impression, but I felt we were just getting hammered by an endless stream of BMPs. We had about 7 guys, no MAT, no Vortex, one medic. So 8 guys including me as ASL.  I heard yesterday that the guys managed to finish the mission and they did it by just driving the trucks into the town aggressively, not caring about getting shot.

What I wasn't sure about, and now I know, was whether BMPs kept spawning or if they were there from the start. My best guess now is that there were probably 3 or 4 when we got there and 2 or 3 additional ones spawned when we remained pinned down. Maybe we were just unlucky with the spawning ambient AI.

With the benefit of hindsight, I would modify my tactics. My base plan was to go along the road/beach to keep our right flank clear. I was confident we could deal with two or three (i.e. "a few" BMPs). I wanted to lead with the infantry and follow behind using the GMG. I never expected to have to deal with 5 or 6 BMPs with a squad of 6 guys carrying 2 AT tubes!

Knowing what I know now, my new plan would be to head to the high ground, into the woods and draw fire from the BMPs so we can ambush them. Reload AT, move 200 metres and repeat.  Live and learn......

Lindi reacted to Theronas in Questions and thoughts about my first few hours on AWE
    Good morning everyone.

First off, some mumbling on my behalf.

For years now I have been watching various youtube videos on arma gameplay, and I was always keen on the ACE games and the large scale co-ops and I was always so very fascinated by them. Damn, i even lay at night trying to fall asleep dreaming about these scenarios. All the depth and realism involved makes this so addictive.

So far I only knew how to play the public servers that one finds online, which is littered with trolls and solo-heroes.

I then finally took the time to download and install all the mods required for AWE, and when  I logged in the for the first time, I was in heaven .

Going through the arsenal the first time was intimidating. All the small gadgets and tools, and various "thingies" in there. Sure, on youtube it all seemed to simple and easy, especially the med stuff, all the different bandages, shots, etc...

I then went on to setup and customize a loadout and play style for a marksman (my fav class on the public servers). Offcourse all i knew at that time was from my experience on public servers, as in pull out rangefinder, get range, click on PageUp to get the range, and just start firing at targets, with good hits most of the time.

On AWE though at first (without the great help and support from the people here) i saw that after a few hours of gameplay, i actually didnt hit a SINGLE target .

So after asking some of my nice fellow players and team-mates (who were really all very friendly and helpful, thanks guys) i learned how to aquire the range of a target here on AWE, how to use the range card to setup the scope, and how to calculate wind effects on long range shots. I went out far away from base solo and just tried to experiment a bit, getting a range of a tree or a rock, using the range card to help me adjust the scope, and then finally getting the hang of hitting a target with the wind calculations. I was so happy and proud that i finally manage to hit a target (a tree at 500m).

So i go out on a mission again with a team, and look there, few hours later, i come back to base, with 0 actual hits on targets.

Please do not get me wrong, by no means is this post a rant or complaint. I really love it, its awesome. But there are some questions that arise.

    Example and question 1:

I was running down a hill with a small squad (me being a marksman). At some point an enemy technical came racing towards us. My SL said: Marksman, take down gunner.

At first i didnt even see or find the technical. By the time i saw it it was closing in fast. I took out my rangefinder, and for some reason, i couldnt get it to give me a range ( is there some limit on how many uses, or if its too far away, it won't give a range? ), and by the time i got the range and hit the keys to get out my range card the technical was already taken care off.

    So my question here is:

First i need to get a range, which doesnt always show or work.
I then have to get out the range card to see what i need to set on the scope.
I then need to adjust the scope.

How can all this be done the moment the team comes under attack, or a target needs to be taken out asap?
Thers not time to go through all these steps. By the time i get the range, or the range card, its already too late (either we are dead, or target is already gone/dead).
And me in a moment like that asking my team whats the range, is not right either (makes me sound like i can't wipe my own ass)....

So am I missing something here? How does someone using a marksman role get ready for a shot within seconds of sighting an enemy?

Are there any tips that you can provide on this?

    Question 2.

I would love to also try the vortex role, but before I take a vortex slot on AWE and become fudder, is there anything I need to know (compared to the normal public servers) when flying? Is there any difference? Any surprises or extra knowledge needed? I don't wanna jump in blind and get my team killed in mid air)...

All in all, my experience so far on AWE is really nice, im loving it (although I suck really bad so far at it) but its truly everything I was looking forward for years. I just hope you folks have the patience to put up with me till i get sorted and learn all the stuff required for AWE. Im going daily through a ton of vids, tutorials, guides, reading a lot of forums and so on but in the end, I need to be able to accomplish all that in the field too.

Also thanks to all the folks who helped me get sorted this far, I really apreciate it.

    Regards,
    Theronas

Lindi reacted to PBG.UndeadBBQ in New here. Seasoned DayZ player, noob on the actual battlefield
Hello there, all. I'm a fresh Arma player, as in, I only ever played DayZ and Battle Royal in that game. I've recently watched a lot of Luetin's content and got antsy about both playing and making Zeus missions.

Realizing I have to play them first before I can get a good feeling for how to make them, I followed the red brick links and ended up here. This seems like a great community, both for beginners and advanced players, if my first assessment is correct.

Given my experience with the game I'm reasonably well versed in Infantry movement, but not squad play and command hierarchies. Or in other words, I know how to hit a target, but I don't know how to designate one for someone else to hit it. Also... never give me anything that flies. Just don't. I fly like a drunk and land like a rock. I'm a good sniper, though, if we're looking for specialities.
When it comes to Zeus, I "only" have my experience as a Leveldesigner and RPG Gamemaster, but no actual knowledge of how to build and operate a Zeus mission. I kinda hope to find someone I can just watch and learn from, and maybe assist in the setup and operation of his mission, to be honest.

I'm looking forward to any games I play with you guys here.

Lindi reacted to Timo in Gamenight condottieres Ahoy!
I'm really liking the atmosphere of AWE, the banter is good (though I don't generally participate, but that's just because my spoken english is a bit rusty) and the community has been welcoming. So thanks for that.
    To the point:
I've been browsing the events, I for one would wholeheartedly welcome a gamenight, where the blufor would be mercenaries instead of, say, US or UK troops. There is a shit-ton of cool gear to rock in the arsenal, and I personally fancy caps and such instead of helmets. So basically this is just a way to circumnavigate the army-helmet-and-uniform standardized normal gameplay.  Which I do enjoy, don't get me wrong. I also see the point in wearing a helmet, oddly enough. But there is a certain charm in not having all the best possible armor and equipment at your disposal, making situations just a bit more intense.
But, as I don't have any experience in making missions, I'm not capable of constructing such a scenario myself. So pretty please?  If you guys feel that this kind of a scenario could be fun, I'm willing to roll up my sleeves, put my my non-existent money where my mouth is and try to learn making the mission, given that someone who actually knows what he's doing is willing to be at the drivers seat.
Have a picture of a Michael Bay-movie as a bonus. Tata!
