    Maybe, just maybe it was because he crossed the line? Didn't follow the correct procedures that we built for eu3, didn't consult with any of his fellow teamor the head of the team. And Then to take the even more piss tried to credit himself for gauntlet. Maybe just maybe he over stepped the line. Just maybe. 
     
    Maintaining, and taking control of are two very different things. 
     
    And if he can't handle being told to stop this stuff, because he over stepped the mark. And wants to stop then that's his choice. But I for sure hope he sees how he over stepped the line. 
     
    Rykos great eat at mission works but there is a line. That's all I've got to say.

    Well. This is just bad.
    All this function does is force people into a commanding role who may not want to play ASL/CMD due to the fact they feel uncomfortable/inexperienced and even could be damaging health.
    Again this is pointless and needs to be removed asap. and this "Update" wasn't even confirmed with other players of Ahoyworld.

    I've been here since the day EU3 very first came out back in 2014 or at least since the 2nd day it started (had to download the modset) and me and others have watched EU3 deteriorate, ask me or Jochem and we will reply how we just sat and watched it crash and burn since late 2014 early 2015 when most the EU3 Seniors (people stole what EU3 veteran really means) left and the EU3 way just completely collapsed. Nowadays it is just a sess-pit and sadly I doubt their is much you can do about it. EU3 will never return to its former glory when we played on Patrol Ops and had original players with good tactics, teamwork, communication and camaraderie in a somewhat relaxing 40 player average server. Now we don't even get close to that number and most the players don't even have a sense of camaraderie never mind actually use original tactics and teamwork.

    All I can say is, you cannot truly fix it BUT you can filter it out a LITTLE and control it but never fix it fully.
     
    None the less, the server does still uphold a somewhat decent structure that we can all enjoy from time to time, even when we all have completely different wants and needs in ArmA 3 Multiplayers experience, I myself am all for hardcore Milsim but I understand EU3 will never get that and I can still have fun.
     
    Also, congratz again on Moderator and good-fucking-luck with this, a completely brutally honest person like me wouldn't last 5 seconds in your boots!

    Right this post it going to be blunt, pretty darn long and more than likely won’t make me any friends. And I really don’t care. There are issues, serious issues within the eu3 community at the moment, some have been there a while, some have only just started. However, I think the severity of them has become evident throughout recent threads within the forum. I will put this at the start; if any posts in reply to this turn into the bitching plain to see in other threads or are inflammatory, then I will ask for them to be moderated, and either toned down to the useful and constructive bits or outright removed. I am making this thread attempting to address some of these issues in a constructive discussion, with a possible solution, at least a temporary one to get the community back on track. Solution is in the last paragraph, skip to it if you really must, most things before that s outlining current issues as I see them.

    I won’t lie EU3 in game and the community of players it supports have become more toxic than Rainbow Six Siege when you play with Josh of late. People are plenty able to voice their opinions out of channel to friends at the moment, but are not willing to put them plainly on the forum or in a place where the issues they see can be addressed. As someone that talks to a lot of folks that play on server there is a growing contempt for some decisions made on the direction of development of gauntlet. I am not going to go through them all, however, to name a specific issue is the changing of squad composition and secondary change to require a CMD element at all times. Now don’t for 2 seconds think this is going to turn into a rant about that, because it isn’t. I’ll be honest I don’t agree with these changes, yet I do understand the reasoning for them. This change has caused some pretty serious rifts and divisions within the community, and I understand there will always be people who don’t get on, the current state of division is ridiculously bad. It is toxic. We need to pull people together, not force them apart based on a single issue, and work it out, rather than bitch at each other because of it. I get that it arouses strong emotions within people but the way it has been discussed hasn’t exactly been constructive.

    In general, there is a lot more pissing around – for lack of a better way to put it, on server. Now we aren’t milsim, and I hope we never become that, but there is a degree of responsibility held by all players who want to play on the server because of its more informal nature. That responsibility as outright ignored by some members, while others accept it and use it. This isn’t something the mod team should have to be dealing with. If you are going to play on the server, enjoy it, and enable others enjoyment, you need to have a mind-set of community, rather than I this or I that. This was something instilled in me when I first came on the server many moons ago, but it’s not exactly the case anymore. We need to get back to that, encourage people to accept the values of EU3 and not take it for granted. It’s almost like that same principles as clubs IRL, they do much more for building and growing an individual than just teaching them or playing football for example.

    There are other issues but I don’t have time to type them at the moment, battery on my laptop is running low and I’m currently on a train. But I want this to post as soon as I can so I’ll hopefully get back to it later when I get home.

    In summary with all of these issues, EU3 has changed dramatically from how it was first envisaged, all things need to adapt and change over time, however my personal opinion is that the server has lost its way a little, strayed from the principles it was founded on. That isn’t a personal dig at the people running EU3, so don’t take it as one. I think to get back to the community of supporting and enjoyable gameplay, with a lot less drama than we have now, we need to seriously look at the direction of the server. AhoyWorld isn’t a democracy, that isn’t a bad thing, but what is a bad thing, is not being a democracy, and not listening or consulting the community who play on, and ultimately support the servers. A possible solution that could work as a temporary measure to get things back on track and to get general and specific feelings heard is to utilise the field ambassadors and EU3 veterans. Before changing a core feature of the server or path of development its really easy to run such changed by both mods, as is done currently I believe, and these experienced members. Not being someone who enforces the rules, in my experience has meant that people tend to voice honest opinions more. It would be really simple to quickly gauge honest community reaction to things by talking with FAs and vets, and have the same effect as holding one of our pretty rare community meetings. As a further idea for moving forward, use these FAs and vets as an oversight committee (in effect) for the creative direction of the servers. All creative processes, which maintaining and developing gauntlet has to be called, require the developer(s) to be grounded, perhaps using this oversight committee so to speak as a grounding wouldn’t be that bad of a thing, as they know general feelings within the community and can provide genuine feedback very, very quickly. And I think that it is important we don’t use the mod team as this committee, but include say 2 mods within it.

    To those who are the creative developers on EU3 this post isn’t solely directed at you, but I feel it is a good place to start in turning the community around for the better. Do not take it as me having a moan at you, I’m not.

    Sorry for the length of the post but the problems we are seeing need to be addressed and fixed. And done pretty soon too. We cannot continue as a community with things how they are, because there won’t be a community pretty soon, there will be a bunch of salty folk bitching at each other at every opportunity. Surely that isn't what we want.

    Forcing people to not be able to play the mission because no one is in squad lead is the wrong way to go. 
     
    You can NOT force PEOPLE to play a role. That is not why we set eu3 up and this is way off the line for why we started this server.
     
    i was there. I remember that day. And now this shit makes me sad. Forcing people into roles. Not allowing others to play the mission.

    Here is what we learned about fast roping from the latest testing session.
     
    1) it is by no means smooth and perfect.
    2) optimal deployment height is around 35m. Higher and the rope may not reach, players will fall and get hurt. 
    3) players can only fast rope up to two at a time. Trying to do more than this may result in the extra players ejecting.
    4) the deployed fast ropes may or may not be available for use for subsequent fast ropers; we're not sure if it has to do with position in the helicopter.
    5) the only helicopter which 100% has fast roping capability is the merlin. Other choppers may have to have it added by script or mission module.
    6) players using a fast rope have no control over their speed of descent, or when / whether they release the rope at the end of the drop.
     
    Based on all of this, the seemingly surefire way we could use fast ropes successfully is as follows:
     
    1) helicopter slows to 0 kph and comes to 35m altitude. Pilot prepare fast ropes.
    2) commanding officer deploys ropes.
    3) commanding officer names the two players who will fast rope first. When ready, c/o instructs those 2 to drop.
    4) 2 players fast rope. When they reach the ground, c/o cuts ropes.
    5) go back to step 2 and repeat until all players have deployed. C/o deploys last.
     
    This way, only 2 players have control over the process and there should be no incidence of ropes being accidentally cut while someone is fast roping. It seems wasteful (and stupid) to be constantly cutting ropes but it's just not consistent enough to work any other way.

    "to identify themselves" this isn't an life RP server or eu1, adding packs that do nothing to game play [ie gas masks] is pointless and should not be added for the sake of one or two people.

    I understand that the the arsenal has been limited in that there are certain weapons that you can't get but I feel as if there is still to much. I understand that this is not a real Milsim group and that we don't have strict rules but it's time to grow up. I have seen life servers that are stricter with uniforms and weapons when it come to factions of tactical operations. We need to drastically limit the uniforms in EU3 to uniforms with tactical use. Certain maps should only allow certain uniforms and these uniforms should complement the role and location. And for gods sake the team should match for friendly fire purposes! The preset uniforms right now are good but need some tweaking. An there are so many weapons to chose from that any role can be anything. Maybe limit the weapons to 3 to 4 per role so things like mag count and others can be replenished by your buddies. This Is not eu1 or eu2. EU3 comes with responsibility and the agreement to work together as a highly operational unit. It's time to dress and operate like one. If you have any suggestions for uniform tweaks you would like to see please list them below.

    Very much agreeing with Amentes here, when it comes to ASL's load it is considerably higher on an average night acting as the commander of all forces. However I don't think that this is something needing a change, what I think it needs is to have FTL's stepping up to the mark. I'm guilty of before now asking someone who isn't a team lead, to team lead. I know when I go into a SL role, I need to have 2 people able to drive their teams forward on their own with me just giving a basic plan. It's important people are able to set their own tempo, however I have no issues dragging them forward - which has to happen sometimes, often I find new people to the server are not used to this style of leadership and struggle not being babysat, for lack of a better word. (Side note: micromanaging SL's definitely ain't the way to make this better though, in most instances a SL who can devolve responsibility is always going to be more effective than one that doesn't.)
     
    I think consolidating may be a  good thing, and it may be a bad thing, it is very dependant on situations and the people in that situation, and there won't be a clear cut this is better or this is worse.

    Ryko is basically suggesting to convert the squad system the way it used to be.
     
     
    The extra markers make all the difference in situational awareness. If you order fireteam to flank. Their position is not projected
    on the map. Their position is unknown, unless its relayed through entire platoon (short wave -> long wave -> short wave).
    It will also make reinforcing problematic to people who join in-progress or respawn.
     
    The simplicity i refer to, is the markers. You will always know where you are suppose to be and where everyone els is.

    dont fix something that doesn't need fixing. 
     
    Work on improving other areas and adding better content. Instead of playing with things that don't need playing with.
     
    the squads are the way they're to keep things localised to fire teams. That way within your squad ft 1,2 could operate independently of each other but within say a 1000m of each other. And that works perfectly.

    No because you still have 2 fire teams in a squad the Squad leader isnt leading a team himself

    the current system Works esp with disconnects and JIP people a soon as you change it it wont  work anymore and people dont know what is there front or back

    So since the dawn of time, for infantry squads, Gauntlet has always had two fire teams under a single Squad Leader/Medic unit.  I'm wondering if it still worth this segregation.
     
    I propose that the ASL/A1/A2 teams be consolidated into a single group.  We've played like this in certain game nights, in what seems to be no harsh effect.  The advantage would be that all players in a group's squad would show up in their ShakTac hud, and in their map markers.  In turn I believe this would help squad cohesion.
     
    I'm not sure if I can see a disadvantage, but if someone can think of one, I'd be interested to hear it.

    I just don't see the point making things more complicated just to get grids around people.
     
    Not sure you were there at "the dawn of time", but current squad system is major improvement over what there originally was.
    If you merge the fireteams. It will cause issues with organization of them, thus they should remain independent.
    Currently it is very simple. "This is your fireteam" & "Here is your fireteam leader". The hud is already doing what you desire here.
     
    Id take few friendly fire incidents over mass confusion anyday

    Simple one, the night optics offered by this mod are far superior to anything we have available at the moment. Offers a much wider field of view, something that as a pilot flying at night is very useful.

    There is the added benefit they look pretty awesome but they primarily serve a proper function. Also it's only 15mb so doesn't exactly add loads to the repo.

    Christiansen has worked on the EU3 Mission for almost 3 years, and has the right to his work if to share or not.
    Banned for a month from creating game nights? Well the last three missions failed, rules are rules.
    and to be honest you have not asked everyone, I've been on this whole week and not once have i seen you come in to EU3 and ask people if they would test your mission.
    so.
