BlastaMasta reacted to SkullCollector in [Guide] ACE Advanced Medical (2020 Rework)
Hello and welcome to the revised ACE Medical Guide: 2020 Edition.

This guide aims to be a comprehensive resource for the dedicated medic; to steel yourself with knowledge first so that you can hone it in combat. It will send you on a journey to become the best medic you can be.
It does not offer panacea. That's just called a packing bandage. It does offer the basis you need to understand the inner and outer workings of ACE Medical with an attempt to dispel some common myths.

You can find two proven sample loadouts at the very end of the document, as well as a spreadsheet with all the data there is about bandages.

For an easier read, here it is on Google Docs.
Link: ACE Advanced Medical Guide v2.3 (2020 Rework)

The GDoc is always going to be the most up-to-date version, but if you prefer PDF, here you are:
The PDF is now very much outdated. I will update it with the 2.4 revision, which will include a flowchart and procedure.

The clue is in the definition of "role", which according to that so infrequently used tool called the dictionary is: the position or purpose that someone or something has in a situation

Position - where you sit in the hierarchy - obey orders. Don't give them if you're not supposed to.
Purpose - what are you there to do? Do you have the right kit to do it? In other words, let the medics do their stuff, pilots to their stuff, etc. Do what's expected of you and respect what others do.
Situation - Know the mission, know the orders. Adapt accordingly. Play according to the situation. For example, my AT guy gets killed, I'm the Medic, his AT launcher is right there and the BMP that is killing my teammates is within range. Should I, as the medic, shoot the BMP? I think yes, the situation demands it. Does that mean that I as the medic walk around with an AT launcher just in case? No.

    Couldn't have put it better.
Quite frankly if you are the medic and someone else is trying to order you around as to how to best treat a patient (unless you ask for the help or are unsure) - tell them to bugga off and hold security. If they have a problem with that, tell them to come find me - and while they're at that, let someone from the AWE team know ?

The following describes a situation often encountered in real life and also while playing on the server (AWE).

Medics arrive on scene and start treating a patient. Bystanders will gather round and in most cases even tell the medics what they should do and what the 'best' treatment for the patient is.

One situation that I have in mind was when @DeVision and I were playing as AMedic and BMedic and arrived to treat a heavily wounded and unconscious patient on the battlefield. As soon as we arrived and started treating the patient together, splitting up our work and working perfectly in sync, someone approached us from behind and started telling the both of us what we should do, what bandages we should use and that we have to get a blood transfusion running to get the patient back on his feet. All while everyone else was rearming and getting ready for the second push.

Now I realize that it's just a game and that the consequences are not as severe as in real life but that particular guy really got our blood going. Don't treat the medics as if they are completely stupid and incompetent. If we wouldn't know what we are doing, we'd take a different role or ask someone to guide us. Medics have totally different and more advanced capabilities of providing life support than a regular soldier. Let them do their job and do yours. We're not gonna tell a marksman how he should zero his rifle or tell ASL how they should command their squads..

Anywho, sorry for the rant but I had to get this out of my system cause shit like this really gets me going...

Easy solution: call an admin/moderator because that guy was somehow breaking rule "Nr. 9 First medic is always in charge" to get idiots like him kicked/banned. Or that he at least receives an official warning
But yeah that's what I do and would do if I was you: someone's breaking rules -> call an admin!

Also if you remember his name you can still report him for his behavior: go to player tools->whistle->report player. Then fill out the form and as evidence you at least have DeVision. Maybe it helps maybe not but at least admins will probably keep an eye on him when they heard his name because of rule breaking once

*Edit*: Also you could argue with rule "Nr. 8 Play your role" since he probably wasn't doing that when he was giving you orders.

But seriously, what about the problem when there is only one pilot online that has to switch between CAS and transport? Are his callsigns gonna change every time he changes his role/vehicle? If yes I feel that that will add more confusion and unnecessary radio clutter eg. "Vortex switching to Talon", "Talon 1 switching to Vortex 1". Vehicle based callsigns sound good when there are enough pilots online but I think that we should rather have the pilot squads have different and neutral callsigns independent of their role.

That is some top notch shit! I really like that and I think more people should do the same when playing in command roles. Saves everyones time, avoids a lot of confusion and is really easy to implement..

In my opinion we don't need that.
I for example just have a letter in front of me where I write stuff down down like the most important things from the briefing, wich vortex is doing what, etc. That solves the problem of not knowing who is doing what + it's without any coding + provides you even more information + is perfectly adjustable as you want to.

To the part with bird specific names: Well it's a nice idea but it makes callsigns just more complicated because when you are the one in charge and there is a lot going on people might forget what the exact bird was => the question "who is doing CAS?" or something similar will also raise. Also I think inventing different callsigns for specific birds will not help making better calls and avoiding conversations like: "vortex one, als, get in cas" "What Cas bird?" because giving birds specific names implies that you exactly know what assets are available wich means that you can simply just say: "vortex one, ASL, get in a Medium Little Bird" for example since it is basically the same => solves nothing.

Maybe you could take your GPU to a friends place to try it in a different PC. I guess any motherboard with a PCIe bus should work.

I see.. Hmmm.. Maybe the thermal paste is old and therefore it overheated even with little load..

You said that your PC won't even start with the GPU in, right? Are you getting any beeping noises when trying to turn it on? Or more specifically, are you getting any beep codes?

Have you also tried fully uninstalling your Nvidia drivers and reinstalling them?

You could also try resetting your BIOS. You can do this by taking that little battery out of your motherboard, waiting a minute and putting it back in again. All while your PC is turned off ofcourse.

Yep, perfectly possible. It should be held on by a few screws.
Is it maybe an overheating issue? What temps did you have before it failed?

Maybe take the caseplate off the GPU to inspect the PCB for any fried SMDs. How old is the card?

Yep, lesson learned, criticism received, will not happen again. Twas fun though  Props for handling it the way you did. Others would've probably started yelling again.

But on a different note: After working 12hr shifts in a fucking ambulance, I come home to play Arma and unwind. Not to get fucking yelled at for slipping up and crashing a helo or if my piloting on that day isn't up to par for some ASLs. Behaviour like that is 100% unnecessary and uncalled for. I sometimes have the feeling that some people in this community take the game and their roles in it waaaay to serious. After all it is what it is: a game. And games should be fun. For everyone. Everyone should do, and in my experience does their best to play their role and work together.

I have the most fun ingame playing vortex, so if I can, that's what I do most. I know that I'm not the best pilot out there but you can be 100% sure that I do my best every time I'm in a helo or a jet.
People make mistakes, thats just the way it is. And if I crash or get shot down or don't land at the designated LZ 'cause it's hotter than a ghost pepper and would mean that my precious reinserts would instantly get slaughtered you can be sure as shit that I'll do my best to avoid that in the future. But shit happens, and that's a-ok.

Also I think it would be grand to have more debriefings after long and complicated missions. This would give everyone a chance to voice constructive criticism whilst improving their own skills.

    Hello everyone.

I want to bring something up, it's not a fun topic and this topic might not fall in good taste with everyone, but it's something I can't keep silent about.
I want to apologize in advance if I do make any statements that is hurtful and/or unwarranted, I promise you it's not intended to be.

I've been playing on AhoyWorld for a month or two now, I spend honestly all my playtime on AWE/EU3, so this might not be as relevant for the other servers.

Most of the time, it's great fun, the community is really good and you guys really know how to help a new guy out and I have spent most of my time laughing my ass of at all the fun we've had. Some of the time though, it's really not all that fun. I've noticed that there occasionally seems to be a lot of back-talking on local and/or sidechannels about other members and their playstyle, competence and so on. It's mainly one or two guys talking, while the rest of the channel just sit in silence.

I've never been a fan of back-talking, I believe that if you have any criticism of a person, you're supposed to either take it up with that person or deal with it in silence.
The fact is that if you never raise your criticism or concerns about a person to that person, that person is most likely never going to hear about it and as such never have the possibility to improve for the better. Instead, if people just talk about this person behind their back, you end up with a hostile environment for everyone and no chance of improvement on any sides.

I know, sometimes people just piss you off and I know you just feel like blocking them off and ignoring it, but often those people do it without the intention of annoying you.
As long as we don't take our criticism and concerns to those it concerns, they will most likely just live blissfully unaware about it and continue pissing other people off.

That's all, thanks for letting me air that out.

    Regards,
Sony, the guy with that weird laugh.

BlastaMasta got a reaction from D34TH in Proposing a few changes
The thing that bugs me about this thread is not @Stips suggestion, but the way people are reacting to it. Or to be more precise how people are giving him negative rep for merely making a suggestion. I honestly don't think the reputation system is meant as an "upvote/downvote" functionality like reddit for example and in my eyes it should only be used to mark spammers/people that post shit and the like. Of course you can give rep for things you like but don't shoot down things you dislike. Rather write a post and discuss! This is a forum after all.

Making constructive suggestions should not be discouraged like this. Anyone who has good ideas might get scared and think "oh, well.... what if they screw my rep.. nobody will take me seriously if they look at my profile". This is a bad thing as I'm sure there are a few good ideas floating around in peoples heads that might actually improve the experience for us all. Anyone should be encouraged to voice their opinions on all aspects of gameplay and to suggest improvements.

As for the actual suggestions, yes, I agree with the others that it would be a whole lot of work to implement these changes and I don't see them working out all too well to be honest..

We could do a few test rounds with some mortarts on AWE or maybe even get a bit of training by more experienced mortar operators like @Karate Pyjamas. Even if it's just for fun! I'd definitly be down for that!
