The general consensus regarding third-person gameplay is a 'don't ask, don't tell' mentality. As long as you don't call out targets you see glancing over that three-metre wall, I won't call you out on using that view.

AWE brings together a variety of different mindsets and many will, over time, pick up different traits from one another. In the case of third- or first-person views, it's far more likely that third-personers adopt the serious, realism-centric mentality of first-personers than the other way around. Someone who's learned to play with it won't just fall back on that old crutch.
In turn we get to enjoy banter with a larger, more open player base. I'd wager most of us wouldn't be here otherwise.

    So we benefit each other.
Bringing about a change specifically in order to rid yourselves of an entirely non-harmful way of enjoying the game is the polar opposite of what AWE has been so far.

I have spent around 50-60% of my Arma time around AWE/EU3 and have been with the community for coming up on two years. Saying that I would still probably leave if first person was enforced. At the end of the day its personal preference which is why BI gave us the ability to switch between views, I don't even use third person all of the time, usually just in vehicles and when running long distances, I'd just be annoyed if I lost ability to be able to switch between.
I also can't agree with making changes to the server in order to get rid of a certain demographic.
I realise there are a lot of people that take first person very seriously and I have no problem with that, to them I just say let the third-person-ers do their thing and you do yours.
Saying all this I'm pretty sure the server will stay as is anyway, just wanted to get my point across.
    Cheers

This thread is going off the rails, and here we are calling each other out on everything they ever did. Id recommend closing it.
I could say i saw quite a few of members/vet's/spartans/ambassadors/admins/ etc. say, do,  stupid stuff/disregard the rules etc., often with a reason, often not, yep, we all do it every now and then (recalling my stay in the community some year ago), and i have done quite a lot of that myself, I've learnt a little. In the end, it's a game, and yes i understand caring, discussing and enforcing the rules, but lets leave it a discussion please, because what this thread is becoming now is a war of "who has done more stupid shit" and how obviously everybody dislikes that.

I may not agree with all the rules and their enforcement, but at the same time, i understand them & the thinking behind them, and well, if i can't change them, i try not to break them more than twice a day. Also, im sure that the ahoy-world staff knows about what happened/happens and deals with it, we don't need to all be judges of that and express our dislike/hatred/spite in a forum thread, yes he broke the rules, yes there is a longer story behind it, and yes Ahoy dealt with it, really, it's that simple.
But, as we all know, we aren't going anywhere with what is happening now, and id just like to ask everybody, to, please not hate each-other too hard, and if you really wan't to, at least do it in a fight-ring team-speak channel, in the end, it's just a game.
Next time file a report and get on.

    Cheers Miczils
I should probably start counting dislikes^^

As said I like the idea and agree with the addition but we just need more players for that. But if there are enough players I could at the moment also see LOGI do medevacs since their tasks are totally up to commands orders + we don´t have a squad that is just sitting at base waiting for a medevac but rather the LOGI squad that does their tasks until a medevac is called in = no waiting times for tasking.

I think that most of the ideas you are talking about are denied because most of them are somehow "Wow, that would look super cool!"/War movie-Ideas but don´t directly fit into gauntlet in a way that it would be used or they don´t fit in because they are just not realistic enough for AWE (since the core idea is to only use real-life assets that are actually used by the military). And since adding things is most likely about coding it mostly would afford work to implement these things. And this is were "Quality above Quantity" kicks in because if the ideas then aren´t that popular it is just somehow "wasted" worktime that could´ve been spend on bugfixing or something similar to achive better performance.

Well on AWE we are still very much causal actually. Real MilSim is way more "hardcore" like first person only, basically no choice of what gear to take, harder/stricter rules, usually only bigger operations (and not like how we do it where you can hop on the server and complete an AO on you own), no or extreme limited HUD, advanced ballistcs (and not like on AWE only for high power rifles) and even up to ending every sentece with "Yes, Sir" and all that stuff.
Or to quote Dslyecxi: "In our eyes, hardcore milsim is chock-full of "tactical fluff" that is irrelevant to the games at hand. This hardcore milsim typically presents itself though excessive rules, regulations, attempted recreations of full military rank structures far beyond what is relevant in the scope of your average Arma mission, doing things "because the real military does them" regardless of their actual application to the game at hand, and other things that we believe do not have a place in these games." (quotation from this site: http://ttp3.dslyecxi.com/)

I understand and do agree with your arguments. My idea for a medevac was a bit more along the lines of an addition, not a substitution. I always like to believe (not just here in arma/AWE) that adding options (not forcing/replacing options) just to give more possibilities when and if a situation allows, could be beneficial and add to the fun experience. Its nice to have multiple options for many misc. stuff rather than being forced to just 1 solution.

Note: In general, not just for this thread here. I see many people give some pretty sweet ideas here and there. Most of them are being denied with the argument "Its not needed". It's not about "needed" or not, but rather to have more possibilities and choice to approach a situation. (No, it's not about my suggestion here, its general I'm talking about). No one is saying to not implement what others have suggested, but adding some of the other various ideas just offers more.

I didn't know that AWE does not fall under the category "Milsim", so it appears that I am unaware what the actual Milsim is then in Arma (yeah yeah, im an old fart, and a n00b in many aspects) but I love this game, and sometimes i just scratch my head at the issue of knowing that Arma has so much to offer, but a lot is being limited to the player base. (No offense, I'm not criticizing this community or anything, I'm just wondering, thats all). I definitely understand that my suggestion is not feasible if you barely have enough players to fill up 1 squad, and about the time it would take to go through such a hassle. I guess i was just in my mind visualizing some war movie and thought "hey, this would kick ass in-game".

Maybe someone could elaborate for me what "milsim" actually stands for, if not AWE?

Whilst i feel for you about how annoying it can be, i honestly think (that for this specific situation) a kick/ban/report player is way to exaggerated. I mean seriously? You want to report/kick/ban a player for saying something like that? Its a bit harsh. And about the rules, I don't think that rule #9 applies here, nor does #8 really. He wasn't doing anything except opening his mouth, which as far as it's not insults or bad language, it  should not be punished.

Based on your logic, every time vortex has to put up with passengers telling him to fly low, do this, do that, every single flight should be punishing a handful of passengers.

Don't let it get to you, and just either ignore such people, or do what you did "telling him to f*** off" which should suffice. It's not like your patient died due to his intervention or anything.

Whilst i do have a lot of respect for rules and reporting, i honestly don't think that someone telling you "how to" should be punishable. Unless of course he's all over your face and intentionally being a dick at annoying you, then of course something should be done about it, but that was not the case from what i understand here.

Of course it should (=must if possible) but AWE is no milsim and more important it is just not always possible since for using LOGI you require way more people than usually are online (for example look at this weekend: max playercount was about 1x squad). This implies that you just can't always do it like it should be done which makes your suggested gameplay mostly impossible or just annoying.
Also if one of my guys gets wounded I would rather want to call in a medic than a medevac since for a medic we would just need to do a pause in our push but for a medevac the whole team would need to fall back with the wounded/downed one to a more or less safe LZ/Pickup point (since when you get heavily wounded the area you are in is probably hot AF => medevac can't get there). This would then drastically slow down gameplay and be unbelievable annoying if you'd always have to fall back again and might be ending up doing nearly no progression. Since all of this would take more time as being killed and reinserted (about the double amount since you have to get evaced and then flown in again) I also can see everyone just respawning when they get downed since it's just a unnecessary waste of their playtime.
So overall I like the idea but I like it only for milsim and not for AWE. The only AW server I could see this working on would be EU#6 where Kennys MSO is hosted and we also have a used LOGI squad but even there it seems a bit too extreme in most cases, it would take away the work for the medics and mostly I also got other things to do with my LOGI guys and would do this not as a real medevac but instead just get wounded people out when we are getting in Ammo/vehicles/medical supplies/reinserts anyway what would take away the "medevac feeling".

Also it's not like this is never happening. I for example did a "medevac" with my team once since there was just no medic in the AO and we had no morphine and couldn't give him blood.

I will not comment/talk about the issue of instant death or not. However, I would like to see a gamestyle where a wounded player would have to be stretchered out and medevaced. That would make gameplay more realistic, and pretty awesome too. Its not just about "pew pew pew, boom", but also about a functioning logistics for wounded.

Now if you can sort out the technical issues (tank shell = kill, bullet to the knee shouldn't = kill, and actually have sqauds call in emergency medevac, that would kick ass.

Arma realism should not only be about battle, but also all the other military things that come along with it. This includes logistics beyond just taking players to an AO for a quick first person Shooter.

    Good morning everyone.

First off, some mumbling on my behalf.

For years now I have been watching various youtube videos on arma gameplay, and I was always keen on the ACE games and the large scale co-ops and I was always so very fascinated by them. Damn, i even lay at night trying to fall asleep dreaming about these scenarios. All the depth and realism involved makes this so addictive.

So far I only knew how to play the public servers that one finds online, which is littered with trolls and solo-heroes.

I then finally took the time to download and install all the mods required for AWE, and when  I logged in the for the first time, I was in heaven .

Going through the arsenal the first time was intimidating. All the small gadgets and tools, and various "thingies" in there. Sure, on youtube it all seemed to simple and easy, especially the med stuff, all the different bandages, shots, etc...

I then went on to setup and customize a loadout and play style for a marksman (my fav class on the public servers). Offcourse all i knew at that time was from my experience on public servers, as in pull out rangefinder, get range, click on PageUp to get the range, and just start firing at targets, with good hits most of the time.

On AWE though at first (without the great help and support from the people here) i saw that after a few hours of gameplay, i actually didnt hit a SINGLE target .

So after asking some of my nice fellow players and team-mates (who were really all very friendly and helpful, thanks guys) i learned how to aquire the range of a target here on AWE, how to use the range card to setup the scope, and how to calculate wind effects on long range shots. I went out far away from base solo and just tried to experiment a bit, getting a range of a tree or a rock, using the range card to help me adjust the scope, and then finally getting the hang of hitting a target with the wind calculations. I was so happy and proud that i finally manage to hit a target (a tree at 500m).

So i go out on a mission again with a team, and look there, few hours later, i come back to base, with 0 actual hits on targets.

Please do not get me wrong, by no means is this post a rant or complaint. I really love it, its awesome. But there are some questions that arise.

    Example and question 1:

I was running down a hill with a small squad (me being a marksman). At some point an enemy technical came racing towards us. My SL said: Marksman, take down gunner.

At first i didnt even see or find the technical. By the time i saw it it was closing in fast. I took out my rangefinder, and for some reason, i couldnt get it to give me a range ( is there some limit on how many uses, or if its too far away, it won't give a range? ), and by the time i got the range and hit the keys to get out my range card the technical was already taken care off.

    So my question here is:

First i need to get a range, which doesnt always show or work.
I then have to get out the range card to see what i need to set on the scope.
I then need to adjust the scope.

How can all this be done the moment the team comes under attack, or a target needs to be taken out asap?
Thers not time to go through all these steps. By the time i get the range, or the range card, its already too late (either we are dead, or target is already gone/dead).
And me in a moment like that asking my team whats the range, is not right either (makes me sound like i can't wipe my own ass)....

So am I missing something here? How does someone using a marksman role get ready for a shot within seconds of sighting an enemy?

Are there any tips that you can provide on this?

    Question 2.

I would love to also try the vortex role, but before I take a vortex slot on AWE and become fudder, is there anything I need to know (compared to the normal public servers) when flying? Is there any difference? Any surprises or extra knowledge needed? I don't wanna jump in blind and get my team killed in mid air)...

All in all, my experience so far on AWE is really nice, im loving it (although I suck really bad so far at it) but its truly everything I was looking forward for years. I just hope you folks have the patience to put up with me till i get sorted and learn all the stuff required for AWE. Im going daily through a ton of vids, tutorials, guides, reading a lot of forums and so on but in the end, I need to be able to accomplish all that in the field too.

Also thanks to all the folks who helped me get sorted this far, I really apreciate it.

Yes, sorry, bad choice of words i used, that is what i meant to say there. I will use a default setup on ranges for specific combinations of weps and scopes. The calculation only comes in to play if the target is too far away from any default.

    Regards,
    Theronas

What about stealth? Like for example, it does not show up on radar, and can not be locked on to (unless bay doors are open) ?

To be honest i lack some of the realism when it comes to stealth on Arma. Other examples are Blackfoot and Ghosthawk. The initial design in them are geared towards stealth, but in-game there is nothing stealthy about any of them except skin appearance.

That sentinel should be silent/invisible death from above.

Sorry for not adding the following to my original post above, but here goes:

    Scenario:

All enemy AA has been taken out, but there are wounded troops a bit deeper in the AO. A taru could para-drop a medical pod into the zone.
That means that some players would have to setup a small security perimeter around or next to the dropped medical pod and other players would have to carry or drag fallen soldier to the pod for revive/heal/etc...

    or another scenario:

    AO has been completed.
A taru with a med pod can go and evac wounded back to base or straight to new AO if so desired.

This would also offer a bit more towards the idea of co-op and tactical play. Yeah Yeah, i know, its a public server, but still... offering a few more solutions to milsim game play would not hurt, even on a public server. At least give players the possibility to do so.

You could also maybe script something like, the medical pod only works (its effects) if a med is on site, or there are so many other ideas/possibilities that could be thought out and implemented in conjunction.

You know you have the containers for the huron at base next to the heli repair zone. Just add a small zone with various pods for the Taru  next to the repair zone, so players can also board some of the other pods (like troop transport pod, etc). A med can also board the med pod and be lifted together to a target location.

The ideas of how to combine this medical solution with actual game play are endless. All it takes is a bit of imagination and comparison to realism.

Sorry for the long multiple posts, im just a bit excited at the idea and would love to see it maybe implemented.

    Cheers,
    Theronas.

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is fine

Please forgive me in advance if my idea/suggestion is not spot on, since this thread is about the Medical Hemtt. However, my idea to maybe help combat the core issue of this thread being a medical solution near or in the AO makes me wonder why no one has yet mentioned the wonderful solution that the Taru offers?

The Taru has various Pods that can be lifted/attached/detached and even para-dropped from higher altitudes. One of these pods is a medical pod (alongside other pods that are all also very useful).

All of these pods would help to solve many issues that some players are whining about in-game at the AO, like need fuel, need ammo, need repair.

Now before you say that this idea would defeat the role of the players within those fields, i'm sure that you can come up with an idea of how to solve the issue to keep players using medical/repair slots etc without scrapping this idea totally.

Also, this would require a separate landing/lifting bay for said pods (which should not be really an issue  to setup at base), as well as making 1 taru a default spawn helicopter at base. (Either add the taru, or replace it with one of the ghosthawks).

You can lift and/or attach those pods to the taru, and even drop the entire pod itself with parachutes from higher altitudes. There is also a pod for troop transport, which is a nice way of dropping troops in a zone that might be a "little" bit hot

A view from inside the medical pod:

And to go just a teeny weeny lil bit further of topic here, the taru can also lift Entire Trucks (Hemtts), Tanks, and other Choppers.

It would also solve the issue of downed choppers, if no repair spec is available. A taru can airlift a chopper back to base for repairs.

But to stay on topic now, since the core is about Medical solutions at the AO, think about this Taru solution. Not to replace the Hemtt of course, but as a nice addition.

    Have a good day everyone,

    Theronas.

Like i said, im all for it. I havent heard the name Liberation in over a year to be honest, and i had forgoten all about it. You also don't find many Liberation public servers online. To be honest, i spend some of my best times in Arma playing liberation.

If i can be of any assistance do let me know
