Lovin' this! Should be the last big operation on my current PC, aka Muckduck's old PC. She will be retiring hopefully next week. She's had a good run at an age of nearly 10 years.

    Act 1 - Prelude to a Nightmare
    Part 3

The situation is stable for now, but it won't remain that for long. As worrying news reach Altian high command, they realize they must make their move. The insurgent leaders that were captured during recent operation were persuaded to reveal vital information about the strength and plans of the insurgency. None of them were high enough rank to know all the details, but the information will prove valuable in the upcoming operation. Unfortunately the Freedom's liaison couldn't be captured which means our information regarding Freedom's own operations is still very limited. Regardless, we have received some worrying news as well. Freedom is bringing in more and more people and equipment into the archipelago, particularly Altis. It appears they are committed to civil war on Altis, even bringing in some commanders, whose names are well known to the world. Some of them are supposed to already be on the island, with others scheduled to arrive in the near future. One name in particular, the man known as The Templar, is especially worrying. He is one of the best - if not the best - Freedom's commanders and the fact he's coming to Altis can only mean one thing: things are bound to get a lot worse.

The Altian command made the decision that the time to strike is now, and push back the insurgents from the territories they're terrorizing. Intel provided by captured insurgent leaders indicates that they are preparing for our offensive and that they are aided by Freedom's troops in this effort. While we do not have full information on Freedom's own operations, it appears that a field commander known as The Watcher - a well known figure - is in command of Freedom's forces in the area, where the offensive will take place.

Additionally, during the operation to capture insurgent leaders our forces found and freed an altian officer captured by the insurgents. He revealed that he was brutally interrogated by both insurgents and Freedom's troops and for whatever reason they seemed to be particularly interested in Altian anti-air installations. It is also clear that insurgents have been busy gathering intel on our moves, bases and supply lines.

Once more Russia offered help to Altian government, but this time also expressed deep concern about the presence of US troops. In the international waters surrounding Altis destroyer USS Patrick Gallagher narrowly avoided a collision with Russian missile frigate after both ships refused to give way.

The Altian clock still shows 3 minutes to midnight...

    Player slots: 30
    - PLATCO - 4 man command element
    - 3 Infantry Squads - Alpha, Bravo, Charlie - 8-man each (4-man fireteam, 3-man maneuver team + engineer - effectively two 4-man fireteams)
    - Vortex - Pilot and Co-pilot

    - 1x Mi-24V attack helicopter
    - Mi-8 transport helicopters

    - 1x M113 APC
    - Various wheeled transport vehicles

    The mission
The goal is to push back the insurgents before they have too much time to dig in and bring in support. The primary objective is to capture the nearby field airfield, but there are bound to be other enemy installations or camps in the area. Expect heavy resistance. Insurgents will be supported by Freedom forces and our intel indicates they are under command of a field commander (colonel equivalent in Freedom's structure) known as The Watcher*. During the operation American destroyer USS Patrick Gallagher will be available to provide long range fire support if needed.

*Note: This is the first mission where you face a custom enemy commander. Each commander is different and his command style will influence composition and actions of enemy forces. With that said it's not necessarily harder. Some of them are easier to defeat than others, some excel in certain scenarios. More will be explained before the mission.

    Act 1 - Prelude to a Nightmare
    Part 2

There are still many who dare not utter the words "civil war", but few words can be better used to describe situation on Altis. The insurgents are clearly more bold, more aggressive than they've been until now. It is clear they feel confident. It is clear they have support from outside. The conflict is very likely to escalate and Altian military must be prepared for anything that the insurgency may have in store.
So far, the situation is not as grim as it could be. The insurgents are strong in numbers and are getting equipment and support from outside, but Altian military put a dent in their confidence. The insurgent attempts at destroying the island's infrastructure were largely ineffective, in no small part due to swift response from Altian military. After several days of intense fighting the insurgents were ultimately forced to fall back and the Altian government called this a victory. A victory it might be, but the civil war is far from over.
The enemy we feared was finally revealed. During recent fighting Freedom's operatives were spotted among the insurgent troops and there's absolutely no doubt now - Freedom is on Altis and they are helping the insurgents in their fight. Freedom's troops are bound to be better trained and equipped than an average insurgents and it is only a matter of time before their material support and training operations improve the fighting capabilities of the insurgency even further. The enemy may have retreated for now, but they will not stop fighting.
It is time to strike, before the enemy has recovered from their losses. A blow must be dealt to the insurgency that will show them what they are standing against. A blow that will show them that we will not wait idle while they're gathering forces. If it is war they wanted, they shall have it.
While a major operation against the insurgents is under preparation, the Altian forces seek any opportunity to disrupt and slow down insurgent activities. Many pay the ultimate price, falling victim to traps and stray bullets.
Meanwhile, Gatekeeper contract with Russia was officially signed and a large contingent of Gatekeeper troops transferred to Russian bases in Syria, preparing for a demonstration of new equipment and naval invasion capabilities. Several days ago a Russian missile destroyer violated Altian territorial waters. The vessel turned back eventually, claiming a navigation error, but no apologies were offered.
In a sudden surge of optimism the altian clock goes back one minute. It is now three minutes to midnight...

    The mission
We have received intel that several insurgent leaders are scheduled to meet in the area. It present an opportunity to deal a blow to enemy chain of command which we cannot pass. It is also possible that Freedom's representative will be meeting with them. Both the insurgent leaders and the Freedom representative are High Value Targets which we must eliminate or capture - the intel they could provide could be significant.

The insurgents are clearly more bold, more aggressive than they've been until now. It is clear they feel confident. It is clear they have support from outside. The conflict is very likely to escalate and Altian military must be prepared for anything that the insurgency may have in store.

The true battle is fought for the hearts and minds of the civilians. The insurgents hoped they could harass the population without impunity. That those who cannot be convinced can be forced to submit. That those who will not submit can be eliminated. However, they have met with strong resistance from the Altian army, determined to protect the people. The Altian army responded to increased insurgent activity with their own operation, and despite difficult terrain, they were successful in driving the insurgents back and saving many civilian lives. Many insurgents were killed and a lot of their equipment was destroyed and it was thought that this victory would greatly reduce insurgent activity in the region. Now it becomes clear that the insurgents and the supplies they receive have been underestimated.

Altian army secured intel strongly indicating that Freedom is in fact assisting insurgents with weapon shipments, troop training and intel gathering. Now it is up to the higher-ups to convince Epsilon and UN of the gravity of the situation. After preliminary talks it is apparent that while they do not reject this evidence, they are reluctant to act on it. Most likely the reason of their concerns is the situation with Russia and fear of escalating it further. Meanwhile, the supplies from USA and UK start arriving on the island and the first batch of troops is scheduled to arrive soon after.

Russia luckily took no strong action so far, though their offer of "help" is still on the table and they "insist" that they are allowed to help the Altian people. The Russian forces in the region are on high alert, but they do stay clear of Altian territorial waters, for now at least, coming just close enough that their presence cannot be ignored and just far enough that they abide all international laws.

While the insurgents and their sponsors are still the real threat, Russia's gaze can be felt across the island, like silence before the storm that threatens to descend upon Altis.

The Altian clock still shows two minutes to midnight...

The Insurgents are targeting the infrastructure in the region. We must prevent the destruction of infrastructure and loss of lives of any civilians found in the crossfire. The area should be searched for any camps the insurgents may operate from. We should also be on the lookout for any opportunities of gaining intel, be it in the field or through interrogation of higher-ranking insurgents.

I'm so tempted to make a proper Falklands War gamenight on Altis or Bozcaada, where we have to complete various objectives around the island - just as the SAS did during that war.

No body armour though so people will probs cry. Who needs it when you have manly moustaches and genocide.

Both myself and @Minipily have many good ideas and settings for gamenights, we could get some going.

Personally, I think a Soviet-Afghan War gamenight could get the ball rolling. BTR-70 patrol/mission through Lythium with Soviet 80s gear. Wet dream.
