Here's something we've made to make it handier for people unfamiliar with ACE to learn basic stuff. It can be used both as quick reference and more in-depth read and should cover anything you need to get started and join a zeus op using ace.

It is now clear that the signal we have uncovered was a ploy by The Templar, who wished to test the skill and determination of his enemy. While the original objectives of the mission couldn't be completed, Altian armed forces managed to rescue several officers captured by Freedom or insurgents during last weeks. The engagement has proven that The Templar and his forces will not be an easy enemy to beat. Regardless, while their threat remains serious, there is an even greater danger looming over the islands now.

With the Russian ultimatum and absolute refusal of US forces to comply with it, war is now almost certain. NATO forces cooperate with Altian government and high command in an effort to put together a plan of defense for the archipelago, but time is short and resources are scarce. The presence of insurgents on the island is not making things easier either. As days pass and Russian and Gatekeeper forces circle the archipelago in a standoff with American task force, diplomats on both sides still attempt to avoid the escalation of the crisis. Their efforts bring no fruit however. Diplomacy failed, and so it seems war is inevitable. As the time set by Russian ultimatum draws ever closer, fear can be felt across the archipelago. Fear amongst the populace, and amongst the soldiers who will soon stand against the might of the bear.

As sun sets on the final day of peace, a sudden large scale cyber-attack cripples the Altian defense net. Radars, communications and CICs across the archipelago are affected. While it is originally suspected that Freedom and insurgent forces are involved, it quickly became apparent they would be unable to conduct an electronic warfare operation of this magnitude. It appears that Gatekeeper's shiny tech is involved, which can only mean one thing: Altis was infiltrated by enemy forces and the cyber-attack is a preparation for imminent invasion when the ultimatum ends. With merely an hour left before the time set by the Russians, a group of Altian soldiers ventures out in a desperate attempt to restore communications before it is too late. The prelude has ended - nightmare is now upon us.

    Act 1 - Prelude to a Nightmare
    Part 6

Pushing back Freedom forces required a lot more resources than was originally anticipated. Losses were high. Many brave soldiers laid down their lives and their sacrifice shall never be forgotten. Thanks to their efforts the enemy was finally pushed back. Additionally Altian troops managed to secure data from a Freedom outpost. While msot of it is still encrypted, it paints a new picture of the current situation. And it is not looking well.

Originally the high command feared that this sudden push meant Templar's forces have arrived on the island - they weren't far from the truth. The push was meant to distract us, while Freedom reinforcements were arriving on the island. Data we have decrypted indicates that several well known Freedom commanders are now present on the archipelago.

The Watcher - we already knew about his presence. He is a cautious and somewhat paranoid commander, putting a lot of emphasis on recon and sentry patrols to give him an early warning.

Torch - brilliant, but psychically unstable. Suspected of having some form of schizophrenia or HFA, possibly both. Adores usage of mines and explosives and brings it to the extreme.

Phantom - his identity still unknown, the man is a ghost. Master of infiltration and ambush tactics, capable of exploiting any weakness in security. He is almost a myth, both among Freedom and their enemies.

Seagull - technically not a member of Freedom, but operates with them very closely. Has good connections to black markets and commands his own band of mercenaries. He will most likely focus on training insurgents to be better fighters.

The Templar - the man whose arrival the high command feared. Excellent tactician and brilliant strategist, he inspires his troops and breaks his enemies' morale. He commands a detachment that is both larger and better equipped than most Freedom commanders can hope for, as Templar has connections among highest leadership of Freedom.

Their arrival is bad news as Altian offensive is still not ready, due to all the troubles the insurgent operations are causing behind our lines. If The Templar decides to make his move now, the Altian military may find itself on the defensive. With general disarray among high command it seems that it is only several notable officers, such as recently rescued colonel Silas Xenotis that keep order and prevent the onset of complete chaos among the troops.

And to add to these bad news the international situation keeps getting worse. The tension between Russia and USA reached a level not seen since the Cuban Crisis. Russia accuses USA of supporting the Altis insurgency and allowing the passage of Freedom forces on purpose in order to warrant American military presence in the Altis archipelago. They see it as a scheme to take control of Altis and its natural resources, primarily the recently discovered uranium deposits, which where a point of discussion for quite some time now. Tired of fruitless accusations and diplomacy, Russia made a demand - NATO has 7 days to withdraw all their forces from the archipelago and Altian government must accept a garrison of Russian peacekeeping forces. Failure to do so will be viewed as direct threat to Russian national security and will be met with adequate response. Russian military is now fully mobilized and Gatekeeper forces in their service are ready to move out from Syria at any moment.

This development also put a dent in plans of Epsilon - international task force dedicated to combat global threat posed by Freedom. While Epsilon was preparing for intervention on Altis ever since Freedom presence was confirmed, the tense political situation forced them to put the intervention on hold. Due to the nature of Epsilon, they are not allowed to take action against any national military forces, unless in direct collaboration with Freedom. Additionally, Russia is still one of the members of Epsilon's council. While Epsilon has already sent some non-combat support personnel to Altis to help with intelligence gathering and decryption, the situation must be further reevaluated before decision regarding full intervention will be reached.

Many thought the civil war to be a nightmare, but now it becomes clear this was merely a prelude. The true nightmare may be yet to come...

The Altian doomsday clock has advanced and it is now one minute to midnight...

We have detected several encoded radio transmissions coming from a source close to the frontline. The transmissions seem to be marked with Templar's own signature and while it seems somewhat suspicious for him to set up his HQ so close to the fight, this fact cannot be ignored. Your task is to break through the frontlines and investigate the source of the transmissions. There is a possibility they might lead us to Templar's HQ. It could enable us to gain valuable intel and perhaps deal with the man himself... Be careful, for all we know we could be walking right into his trap.

    The mission
We have detected several encoded radio transmissions coming from a source close to the frontline. The transmissions seem to be marked with Templar's own signature and while it seems somewhat suspicious for him to set up his HQ so close to the fight, this fact cannot be ignored. Your task is to break through the frontlines and investigate the source of the transmissions. There is a possibility they might lead us to Templar's HQ. It could enable us to gain valuable intel and perhaps deal with the man himself... Be careful, for all we know we could be walking right into his trap.

    Act 1 - Prelude to a Nightmare
    Part 5

The Altian offensive is still on hold, while the preparations are underway. Although insurgents are constantly operating behind out lines, attacking villages and raiding supply lines, the overall situation on the island somehow feels calmer. The fighting is sparser, and the Altian army is making the most of this calm, putting extra effort into preparations, in order to resume the offensive as fast as possible. The high command is aware that with Templar and his forces headed for Altis, time works in favor of the enemy. Insurgent and Freedom commanders are most definitely aware of this fact and as such they are planning to disrupt our preparations.
As part of guerilla operations aimed to slow down our efforts, the insurgents set up an anti-aircraft net on approach to one of our airfields. Unfortunately it caused significant difficulties and delays, as well as equipment and aircraft losses. The insurgents also shot down a helicopter carrying colonel Silas Xenotis and took him captive, no doubt willing to extract information from him. Altian forces conducted a difficult rescue operation and ultimately managed to locate and safely recover the colonel, as well as neutralize the bulk of enemy AA net threatening our aircraft. Unfortunately during the operation substantial amount of Altian equipment fell into insurgent hands.
The tensions between Russia and USA are still high and there is no sign of them improving. The situation on Altis is constantly brought up by Russian media, who aim to throw blame for anything they can onto Altians or Americans. With the Black Sea Fleet mobilizing all of its major vessels and the constant exchange of ever more ridiculous accusations between Russia and USA, it seems the situation abroad is bound to become as bad as situation on Altis. One can only pray it doesn't become any worse.

    The mission
Yesterday morning Freedom and insurgent forces launched a suprise attack from the insurgent controlled territory. They have gained some ground and captured an industrial complex, which they are now holding. The attack came as a complete shock as untill now the enemy was focusing on preparing defenses and partisan operations, so for them to go on the offensive was a complete shock. We are not yet sure what this change of stance means - worst case scenario is that Templar's forces have already arrived, in which case the situation is looking more grim than we anticipated. The objective of the mission is to retake the complex and search the area for enemy isntallations. We have also received vague reports about Freedom outpost located nearby, clearing it would offer an opportunity to secure intel as well as reduce effectiveness of enemy operations in the region.

    Act 1 - Prelude to a Nightmare
    Part 4

Very shortly after the Altian offensive started, the high command realized pushing the enemy back will not be as easy as was originally predicted. Launching an attack before all preparations were complete was aimed to take advantage of enemy weakness, but also resulted in disorganization among Altian troops and casualties much higher than anticipated. Still, it had moderate success, which the Altian government managed to brand as victory.

Despite having Freedom's support and malfunction of USS Patrick Gallagher's VLS system, the insurgents were forced to retreat from the territories targeted by the initial Altian push. In face of unrelenting assault, The Watcher, commanding enemy Freedom forces, ordered a retreat. Altian army seized several strategic objectives, such as a field airfield, but the insurgents managed to pull back most of their supplies and equipment before the area was taken.

Now the Altian offensive is at a halt. The losses were high and success moderate and as such high command made a decision to hold the advance to await reinforcements, resupply and to have time for proper planning. The original goal of pushing against the insurgents before arrival of The Templar and Freedom's troops that will no doubt accompany him is no longer deemed possible to accomplish in time. Additionally, territory that was taken is not fully secure, as insurgents are still conducting guerilla operations across the island.

The Altian government must also deal with the aftermath of an incident that happened during the offensive. An Altian aircraft mistakenly fired upon a civilian target, which resulted in loss of life of multiple civilians. The public outrage on the island and abroad is largely fueled by Russian media and diplomats, who immediately jumped on the story, using it best they can in order to demonize both the Altian government and US troops stationed on the island. The insurgents are also attempting to use the incident as part of their propaganda, but the populace cannot be swayed that easily. Coincidentally - or maybe not - a political incident in South-East Asia sparked tensions between Russia and USA and neither country is willing to back down.

With the offense on hold the Altian high command once more turns its attention to guerilla warfare that wreaks havoc in areas that should've had no insurgent presence.

The Altian clock has advanced and now shows 2 minutes and 30 seconds to midnight...

Assuming they survived the crash, they are probably held prisoner by the insurgents. I, for one, can tell you that I don't see any admin or moderator jumping to conclusions, let alone based on your name, accent or ethnicity.

JANXOL got a reaction from Lindi in War for Altis - Act 1 Mission 3 Modded Zeus Ops 26/01/20 @ 17:00 UTC
    Date:

    Act 1 - Prelude to a Nightmare
    Part 3

The situation is stable for now, but it won't remain that for long. As worrying news reach Altian high command, they realize they must make their move. The insurgent leaders that were captured during recent operation were persuaded to reveal vital information about the strength and plans of the insurgency. None of them were high enough rank to know all the details, but the information will prove valuable in the upcoming operation. Unfortunately the Freedom's liaison couldn't be captured which means our information regarding Freedom's own operations is still very limited. Regardless, we have received some worrying news as well. Freedom is bringing in more and more people and equipment into the archipelago, particularly Altis. It appears they are committed to civil war on Altis, even bringing in some commanders, whose names are well known to the world. Some of them are supposed to already be on the island, with others scheduled to arrive in the near future. One name in particular, the man known as The Templar, is especially worrying. He is one of the best - if not the best - Freedom's commanders and the fact he's coming to Altis can only mean one thing: things are bound to get a lot worse.

The Altian command made the decision that the time to strike is now, and push back the insurgents from the territories they're terrorizing. Intel provided by captured insurgent leaders indicates that they are preparing for our offensive and that they are aided by Freedom's troops in this effort. While we do not have full information on Freedom's own operations, it appears that a field commander known as The Watcher - a well known figure - is in command of Freedom's forces in the area, where the offensive will take place.

Additionally, during the operation to capture insurgent leaders our forces found and freed an altian officer captured by the insurgents. He revealed that he was brutally interrogated by both insurgents and Freedom's troops and for whatever reason they seemed to be particularly interested in Altian anti-air installations. It is also clear that insurgents have been busy gathering intel on our moves, bases and supply lines.

Once more Russia offered help to Altian government, but this time also expressed deep concern about the presence of US troops. In the international waters surrounding Altis destroyer USS Patrick Gallagher narrowly avoided a collision with Russian missile frigate after both ships refused to give way.

The Altian clock still shows 3 minutes to midnight...

    The Assets
    Player faction: Altian military
    Player slots: 30
    - PLATCO - 4 man command element
    - 3 Infantry Squads - Alpha, Bravo, Charlie - 8-man each (4-man fireteam, 3-man maneuver team + engineer - effectively two 4-man fireteams)
    - Vortex - Pilot and Co-pilot

    - 1x Mi-24V attack helicopter
    - Mi-8 transport helicopters

    - 1x M113 APC
    - Various wheeled transport vehicles

    The mission
The goal is to push back the insurgents before they have too much time to dig in and bring in support. The primary objective is to capture the nearby field airfield, but there are bound to be other enemy installations or camps in the area. Expect heavy resistance. Insurgents will be supported by Freedom forces and our intel indicates they are under command of a field commander (colonel equivalent in Freedom's structure) known as The Watcher*. During the operation American destroyer USS Patrick Gallagher will be available to provide long range fire support if needed.

    The modset:
The modset didn't change, but I'm putting it here for anyone who might need it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1944287184

    Hope to see you there!

*Note: This is the first mission where you face a custom enemy commander. Each commander is different and his command style will influence composition and actions of enemy forces. With that said it's not necessarily harder. Some of them are easier to defeat than others, some excel in certain scenarios. More will be explained before the mission.

JANXOL reacted to Stanhope in ACE Medical flowcharts (Quickstart for new players)
Here are a few flowcharts I made that could help new players or people unfamiliar with ace medical.  These flowcharts are not the only correct way of doing it.  They probably aren't even the best way of doing things.  They are intended to be a guide for new people.  Once you become familiar enough with ace you'll figure out how to do this better.

Here's a guide on which bandage to use:
Here's a guide on what to do as a rifleman when you get shot:
And here's a guide on what to do as medic when someone gets shot:
And this is a backup link in case these pictures disappear.  They'll probably be outdated before that but just in case.
