  1. Allow me to note down a couple of rules before I start:
    http://www.ahoyworld.co.uk/topic/3556-eu3-rules-and-guidelines-please-read/

    14. Radios are not for chit-chat.

    • Please keep radio chatter to a minimum. If you have to talk do it LOCALLY.
    • No two squads on the same shortwave channel.
    4. Listen to the Chain of Command.
    • This quite simply means if command tells you you’re not allowed to fly CAS at this time. Please do not go fly CAS. Just use common sense and listen to what your commanding officer is telling you.

One single frequency per squad, that's how we've always done it and that's how it should be done. There is no point in splitting the radio up and give every single fireteam a seperate frequency.

Even if it was to keep the chit-chatting out? Why not just tell them to be quiet and read the rules or if they give irrelevant information tell them to try otherwise next time. If they still won't listen, why not contact a staff member? Remember, we are here to make sure you guys have the best experience possible and to remove people who block you from getting that experience.

Direct orders from the Squad Leader would simply take too long to be followed up, as the Fireteam leader has to repeat them, now might the fireteamleader be uncounscious, KIA or still at base; a link in the chain of communication is lost and the rest of the fireteam the FTL in question was part of is left in the dark about what's happening and going to happen.

To point out what Mini said, there is no point in A1 AR shouting out contact over radio, if it doesn't concern A2.
The correct way would be for the AR to shout (yell) contact over local, make sure the FTL is aware and let him report it in if necessary. It would not be to split up the radio frequencies as then, might the report from the FTL be necessary A2 - apart from their FTL - will also be left in the dark.

The teamleaders are never to be seen as equally expendable units as riflemen are, they are the people making the calls in their fireteam and they do make crucial decisions.
Squad leaders shouldn't go too much in depth, as in 'Hug that rock'. That should be the FTL's job, he should be coordinating the team in more depth than the squadleader is.
The squadleader should therefor stay way more generalised and treat his two fireteams as 2 individual units who can move (to cover), engage the enemy and much more.
He should however, leave the any short-term decisions up to the FTL, who can; if done correctly. Inform his entire team of this decision over local chat and does not always need to speak on radio, unless he thinks it might be valuable for the rest of the squad to hear.
If the squadleader however screws up in his decisions, the FTL is there as the last beacon of hope; who could make the crucial decision which will keep the entire fireteam alive.

Amentes is spot on with what he says and is there a place where I can submit his last line for quote of the year?

    On what Karate said;

'SL can't have FTL chatting when he tries to listen to command'

For a moment, screw the rank system and think, could what your FTL has to say be much more important and involve any input you have to make in a much smaller timeframe? People could die if you don't hear what your FTL says. He's basically your eyes and ears in the frontline.
Just simply say 'break' over LW, hear your FTL out, make a decision if necessairy, relay it to others if necessairy and then radio CMD back in to repeat what he had to say.
Remember the order's he's going to give you or the questions he's going to ask you lose their motive as soon as your entire squad gets whiped.

If overzealous members of your team run off, shout at them; call them back and tell them off. They should listen to you as the objective SL has given your FT might seem good in his eyes, but you might have a better way of archieving that objective. Which is coherently with what you want to archieve with the whole regrouping and sit-rep'ing.

Still, seeing there's no rule about it the people in command (see rule 4) are still free to decide if they would rather go for one or multiple channels.

  2. I've got a 13 euro webcam (EW1089) which I got in some local store. Took out the IR filter & put the light filters you get in the package in front of the lens and cranked down the intensity etc. a bit in the settings of the webcam. The only thing I'm seeing now is blue dots where the IR lights are. The sunlight coming out of the window behind my monitor and the light coming out of a lamp on the ceiling don't matter a thing. So no, I've not noticed any diffrence whatsoever.

The only annoying part with tracking software is that your head has to be in the correct position when aiming down sights, else you'll be aiming whilst looking at the sights in a bit of an angle. Lining up the shot isn't that hard, but it just looks and feels a bit odd.
I wouldn't mind hopping on EU1 in the weekend to make a short screencapture about what it can and what it can't to with the badly tweaked settings I have now.

I used to fly a lot on EU1 back in the day and I've got to say that ever since I've got this thing, it feels much more realistic, with landing in first person becoming easier and such.

The only problem I've found so far is that if I turn my head further than about 60 degrees (whilst the IR lights can go up to 80 degrees) to the right side a part of my face will blot out one of the lights and the calibration is lost, thus the screen snapping back to as if you were playing without IR. Turning it back a bit resolves it into the angle you had before the light was blotted out.
I feel like it can be easily fixed though adjusting some sliders in the program, but since I only have had it for about 3 weeks now and it's not really a big annoyance I decided to leave the settings alone for now and play with it first  :P

  3. I cant make it :(, will be on my way to watch the mighty saints.  if there is an app, ill be sure to listen in from my mobile

You can always follow Ahoyworld.co.uk on Telegram, though not much is being said in their. I'd suggest watching the video, which Josh was certain about was gonna be made. Have fun at the game  B)

  4. I've got the delanclip recently and it works quite well. It takes a long time to get used though.
I really suggest getting the clip before you get the real deal, might you still need it for some reason, because this seems to do the job perfectly.

  5. Development can be a bit slow in December and I pretty sure Christiansen is working on some way cooler stuff.

I'll try and see what strings I can pull and what I can do myself to realise this, but of course it's going to have to be discussed with our EU3 manager and others within the staff team whom it may concern first.

Also; I'll need to know wether you guys would rather have Cherno winter or another winter map such as Thursk, seeing we've played so much Chernarus already.

  6. Had good fun playing with you on EU3 today, thus I specially looked up your welcome post just to give you a warm welcome. Hope you enjoy your stay  :) .

By the way, is that (an awesome) Sabaton gif?

  7. Toxic:

Respect for spending the time you've got left next to your probably extremely hard and time-consuming study, don't feel bad about it not working. People shouldn't complain unless they can do it better themselves.

With the amount of things you had to deal with seeing you were also the first to go through the newly put up flowchart I can only say; thank you very much for still trying to set something up for us. Don't feel bad about it, better luck next time.

  8. I've had this problem a couple of times where battle-eye wasn't functioning optimally.

Try and make your Arma3Sync - Launcher options look like this:

Afterwards I'd recommend you launch the vanilla game once, just to make sure you 'force' battle-eye to update.

Check this page in the Arma 3 (vanilla) launcher for further info on it's status whilst launching:

If any further problems occur, feel free to post again :-) | or simply join the Teamspeak server (ts.ahoyworld.co.uk),  which would make me and a fair few other staff members and field ambassadors able to help you somewhat more interactively.

  9. Hello there,

I'd say you just start swapping out weapons and equipment from your default loadout which you don't like that much. The default loadout is the loadout you spawn with and supposed to be a standard for the type of role (i.e. medic / rifleman AT) you are playing. Keep in mind that there is some things that make a role efficient and worthwhile; such as the 'Medickit' on a medic or the 'Titan AT' on an AT soldier, changing them out for less efficient stuff won't be very appreciated by your fellow soldiers. Try and keep those weapons/pieces of equipment close to you and learn how to properly use them.

Now, you might not feel perfectly able with the gun the default loadout has provided for you. Shouldn't matter there's plenty left to choose from!

You can either change out the sights - into reasonable lenghts ( it's not mandatory, but please don't take marksman sights etc.) or

you can change the gun itself..

Depending on what your placestyle diffrent guns might suit you better; now here's the tricky part. Keep in mind that your role automatically defines what your playstyle is supposed to be (General squadmember, marksman, sniper, helicopter pilot). You should feel a bit obliged to not step outside of the boundaries of your role and pick up dedicated marksmen rifles when you're supposed to be playing with an assault rifle.

Generally the server will give you a lot of choice and there is nothing, apart from mad rage and occasional flaming teammates, disallowing you from taking up other weapons than your role 'prescribes'. You will know when you've truly stepped out of the boundaries as the server will 'take away' whatever you've just tried to equip.|
Keep in mind that you're free to take anything, which isn't server blocked, but try and not step too many people on their toes by doing their 'jobs'.
Just as an example; as a medic you don't really need to be running around with a RPG-42, there should be plenty of AT soldiers around perfectly able to do what is necessairy and you're supposed to work as a team and not a one man army as some sources and people are trying to let you believe.

Sure. Trial and error might be the way to go, but try and keep these things in the back of your head when selecting the specifics for your 'trials'

    Hope this helped,

  10. Hey mosterded, I (and hopefully more people) could help you a lot better if you joined the Teamspeak 3 server (ts.ahoyworld.co.uk) seeing the problem is very unknown to me, it would probably require some more sorting out and information than just one screenshot

Feel free to ask any other of the staff members or even Field Ambassadors on the teamspeak server, I'm sure they would be more than willing to help you out.
