Oderus was and still is to me a great dude,
Like Shadow was saying the best memory was when we was playing Dead By Daylight together and we've not seen Oderus all game and he wasn't talking and I said "He's probably in a closet getting high", a second later we hear from Oderus sounding high as fuck "Oh Hi Buddy",  we all burst out laughing as he was taken out the closet to a hook.

Thanks for the replies and memories chaps, Oderus was a great guy.

From what I know he caught the flu and it got pretty bad and this is the reason he passed away.
He was 35.

Even though I didn't really know Oderus that well. I only played a few games with him but when I did he was always making every one laugh.

If you didn't know him, he's the kinda guy to bring people together buying gaming bundles for his friends to join him in whatever crazy adventure he could find next, payday, life is feudal, red solstice, dayZ, Mount+Blade.... this list goes on. We'd joke about him rage quitting but that feisty personality that always fought for what was fair for the people is the oderous I love. Equally he's a chap you could sit down and chill with, watch some youtube playlists (including who killed captain alex, world star, failarmy!) and I'm sure a few of you reading this have fond memories of that! Our inside joke was that we'd share "sea chanties" with each other (which were actually just grime, hip hop and similar tunes!).
 
I'm gonna miss you Jeff... all of our crew will...

Wishes from myself go out to his family, wishing them best in recovering from such an unfortunate event. 

So it breaks my heart to have to right this, but sadly ex-moderator and member Oderus has sadly passed away.
 
All we know for now is that he got really ill but not much more. I’ve spoken with his brother briefly. 
 
I hope all that knew him and didnt know him will join me in sending him off. 
 
Oderus was one of the nicest gamers id ever met and I truely will miss him.

Due to advancements in magazine technology, that is not quite the case any more. Magpul makes excellent lightweight 40 round magazines, and Surefire and a few other companies have quadstack magazines holding 60-100 rounds that are more convenient than drums or belts to carry for that matter. They are also way more reliable than the belt fed links, and in extreme situations the  gunner or ammo man can resupply other Marines rifles in a pinch, which they could not with the belts.  

See my above post on newer magazine options that are available. My friend from high school is a Army Ranger and absolutely loves the Magpul 40's and surefire quadstacks in 60 and 100 when he was deployed last. I have one of the magpul 40pmags for my competition rifle, they are some of the most reliable magazines made for NATO STANAG weapons. Have not personally tried the Surefires but have heard good things, I just cant justify the cost of them personally. 
 
.223 & 5.56 are actually one of the safest calibers someone can own for home defense, considering someone is not using steel core or  FMJ. The reason police are ditching 9mm subguns and 12 gauge shotguns for AR's is because with the lower grain hollowpoints, or Open Tip Match ( Which are allowed in warfare for military use, HP are not) the rounds have a far less chance of posing a risk of over-penetration, either through the bad guy, or through a wall or other barrier. 00 Buck or 9mm HP will penetrate far more than most people realize. Dry wall or sheetrock will have the tendency to plug up a HP round from a pistol, essentially making it a solid slug that does not expand as it would if it hit a bad guy. That is very bad thing for bystanders, considering most homes use dry wall for interiors. 00buck is a .33 caliber ball, and having 9-15 of them depending on shell length flying all over a house is a huge liability, they do not fragment and have enough mass to do alot of damage through alot of material in a wide unpredictable pattern. A 223/556 round that is designed to fragment will break up into smaller less dangerous fragments much sooner through less material.  
A .30 caliber rifle round be in 7.62x51 or 7.62x39 and its ballistics twin .300 Blackout are designed to penetrate hard barriers and retain mass. Now on the civilian market there are excellent hunting ammo in those calibers that are designed to expand and expend all energy in a target from HP or Soft Point loads, a 154g 7.62x39 Soft Point load had saved a hiker from a polar bear attack in Alaska in a news report I read.  They still are too dangerous to rely on for defense if collateral damage is a possibility, and such loads are not allowed in warfare. STS is primarily a role play server so we have a news crew ( channel 7 news) who make youtube videos/stream ect so would it be possible to get them inside of one of the two helicopters flying or get them good position at start/finish? 

Ahoy World is proud to announce we will be hosting a large-scale, multi-group oriented race across Altis! Those willing to participate will be asked to form 3-man teams consisting of a Driver, Medic/navigator, and Mechanic. Ahoy it's self will have a few cars reserved for our members to fill out, however, one of the most exciting parts of this race is that we will be inviting other groups from around the Arma-sphere to form their own team and join us!
 
The race course will cover almost everything Scenic Altis has to offer, from Pavement to saltflat, Mountain climbs to ocean views, all from the comfort of your Hatchback Sport. Race teams will be encouraged to create their own custom Texture for their cars livery. There is NO entry fee, however, we ask you consider making a contribution to the winners pot, such as a Steam game, or iTunes or the like, however big or small, so that the we have something to give the winning team. Further, we ask that you take this race seriously, as you are representing your group, and take note that any mucking about will be dealt with not just in-game, but potentially out of game as well (at least for Ahoy members).
 
Tentatively, we are looking at March 15th, at 16:00 G.M.T. for race day. The course and certain specifics about race formats are still being decided, but feel free to ask if you have any questions. So, if your ready, get set, and make your race teams.

Sorry for the blunt post David, perhaps one born of frustration at the tirade of teamkillers, griefers and abusive players on lately .
It's not a personal attack against any admins and I should have been more specific.
It's an apparent lack of admins actually playing on the EU#1 server. I know one or two present admins play occasionally, and the server is a much more pleasant experience at these times but this is a very small percentage of the time. I realise it's possible to 'poke' them on TS and request their presence but this becomes tiresome after a while, when it's the same folk constantly having to nag an admin. 
It would be nice to see some of the current dedicated players be considered for admin. Those players who are on daily and actively help/advise players.
I'm not suggesting myself, although I do try to assist as much as possible, because I travel a lot at the moment and can't guarantee when I'd be available. 
Maybe I am reading the situation completely wrongly and you are satisfied with how the server runs, I'm speaking entirely from a personal perspective and basing it on my observations in-game. 
I really admire the dedication the present admins show towards the game and appreciate having such a great server to play on, I just fear for it's longevity when I see the 'regulars' getting frustrated and disappearing at an all too rapid rate.

I've been running it for most of today and it seems to do what it says on the tin,
I set it up to run Arma as high priority and everything else low or idle and I appeared to get a boost in game FPS & Load times
 
it also lets you monitor loads of other processes and adjust a host of other magical jiggery pokerie for ram, cpu & I/O priorities 
 
but i'm a bit sus as to weather let it meddle too much with the innards of my rig anyone know for sure if it's as good / safe as advertised
