Shit, I haven't even checked as to how long ago it was since I joined. Here's to Badger, Danny!

We should've come up with that ages ago

Edit: Yeah so my one-year mark was 4 months ago lol

Cain reacted to zissou in How to report disruptive behaviour on our servers and make your and our admin's life better.
It's the summer holidays so as well as forest fires we also have lots of idiots on our servers and because we have a limited number of admins we need your help in making ahoyworld a pleasant experience for everyone.

    So picture this:
Player A is a regular player but doesn't use teamspeak (TS)
Player B is also a regular player and is on TS
    Player C well he's just a troublemaker!

So player C teamkills several players over a few minutes.

Player A notices this and doesn't like what he sees so he asks in side chat:
"Any Admin on? Player C is tking!"

If an admin is on he will know immediately who to look for and what player c is up to.

If no admin is on Player B who's on TS can poke an admin and let him know. But it's vital that you pass on the correct information. Something like "tker on eu1" or "you need to ban player c" leaves us with very little info to go on and requires a bit of investigation. Whereas something like "Player C is tking on EU1" lets us know who is doing what.

Sometimes an admin will do the admin magic remotely and may ask for confirmation in side chat. It's up to you the player base to help us admin so if you say that Player C was tking and you see an admin asking for confirmation, help them out and just type confirm in side chat.

Check the map to see if he's in a vehicle it may be the gunner who's doing the tking and the driver being reported so let us know before we kick the wrong person.

    Important Notes:
Don't TK in self defense or retaliation, ever! I have in the past kicked the person who was, in fact, the reporter of the tk. He had tk'd the tker just after I joined the game and as i only had limited information i just kicked the first person i saw tking.

Please don't tell us to ban someone, tell us who is doing what so we can investigate it properly, it's quite distracting when we someone saying 'ban him' in side chat when we're still trying to figure out what's happening.

I agree that sometimes the wait time for helicopters can be long. But in my year and a half at Ahoyworld I've never experienced an hour wait. As always if pilots arn't doing there job properly contact an admin and we will start removing them.

I'm not looking for a racing sim at all, but I really didn't like GRID 2's super arcadey-feel, especially with those weird drift-type races and the like. From that video, it does look like the new GRID is much less arcadey, but definitely not a race-sim, which sounds pretty great.

Definitely liking the cockpit view too, and more proper motorsport!

Good thing I staved off buying grid 2. Hurray for more authentic racing, hope it's less arcadey than grid 2. Might well pick it up if it looks good near release.

That simply isn't true, whilst I can't quite remember what we've set the timespeed at, the day and night cycles should be exactly or very close to the same. The majority of the time the server is in daytime because many people like yourself dislike playing at night, so we usually restart the servers at 0500 to give the maximum amount of daylight before it goes into night.

As such we're almost certainly sticking with the current system, because previously we felt that having it almost perpetually daytime (with the normal time speed) just made the game seem monotonous and boring. Introducing the night aspect leads into some interesting developments. If you don't like fighting in the dark, bring a 3GL and Flares. You'd be surprised how much they light up a battlefield at night.

All they had to do was give us a nice interceptor or fighter-bomber for both sides, like an updated F-16 or F/A-18, or even the F-35 for Blufor, and some equivalent of the SU-35.
But noooo, we have to get a shittily-modelled A-10 that looks like it should belong in Battlefield 2142, and some terrible kazakh attempt at building a MiG.

Why were you throwing smoke grenades in a manner which could be seen as spamming, at base, in the first place? I do not think anyone needs to be warned if they do not have the common sense that spamming smoke grenades, or normal grenades for that matter, is not a good idea in the first place. And smoke grenades are still bad, whilst they may not teamkill, a lot of them can decrease FPS dramatically for other players, and particularly pilots attempting to land at base.

I was reacting on teamspeak to a known player making me aware of what you were doing, the particulars I cannot remember, and after the ban message popped up several people said 'thanks admin', which may not be a useful tool in gauging the right action, however it usually works in the past when a high-profile dissident does something that can be seen as unfavorable on the servers.

If you can explain this to me, I may decrease your ban to a temporary one, in my opinion. Other staff members may disagree, and may maintain or commute your ban further.

Unfortunately at the moment we are not looking into low-level admin rights, and most likely will not for a period of time.

The thing is, if we're giving people the ability to kick/ban (hell, even the ability ban is too much imo), then why not make them full-blown admins?

And as such, because we like to keep our admin staff tight to a group of people we know contribute regularly, have good judgement, and we inherently trust.

We realize that as of late the server admin presence has gone down, due to pretty much everyone being on dev to play with Zeus, and I'm switching back to stable to help with that.

    However.
Whilst I am not doubting you guys' or Skully's trustworthiness, we cannot just hand out such powers willy-nilly, because if we do hand out kick/ban rights that essentially makes them admins (or moderators, if you want to call them that). And we would much prefer a smaller admin team where it's easier to sort out some problems here and there, rather than a much larger moderator group where we can't really hold them accountable if one decides to abuse his powers and start kicking people out of pilots slots because he wants to fly, or something similar.

If you want to see more admins, either:
    1) Get involved yourself, in all areas, so that perhaps you can be trusted enough with admin responsibility
or 2) Encourage others to do the same.

Because to be honest, if you're complaining about there being enough admins, and yes fair enough I acquiesce to that, many of us are on dev, but you lack the initiative to get involved within the community and contribute, therein possibly becoming a member of our staff, then I do not think you have much of a right to do so.

If you're not able to because of a job, or school, or any other reasons, remember this:
    Admins are people too.

We have jobs, we have school, we have other things that require us to not be able to be on the servers actively playing and moderating. What we are able to do most of the time when this happens, is moderate remotely. So no, do not hesitate to poke us on teamspeak for a kick or ban, because we will most likely be able to do so, that's the reason why we have our remote admining tool. To help us do most of the jobs required in the server without actually being in the server.
Be glad we have it, because if we didn't you would see a lot more teamkillers and the like. Our responsibility is to admin the servers, when we can. To most, if not all, of us, admining is sidelined by other things in life.

I'm comparing it to DCS because that's what its trying to be. You have to accept that ARMA is extremely poor for any type of fixed wing aircraft, viability sucks, performance sucks aerodynamics sucks straight off the bat. I tried F18 mod but when trying to look through the targeting pod, the target i was supposed to be looking at wouldn't even render if i battled the graphics option into submission, the same will apply for this.

If you mention reality i'm going to bring that to a bump

This aircraft is so realistic you turn OFF the apu generator to turn on the engines...

It was a nice idea but keep it to what arma does best, simplicity. pull forward on your throttle to start the engines, let the scroll wheel control the mayhem, let my enemies feel the wrath of my tab button. Pray to god i don't stall out of the sky pulling a level banking turn.

Don't waste your time trying to make this a simulation, there are other things out there for that!

    Amen!

p.s. it popped up on my steam that arma 2 operation arrowhead is still in beta, wonder when that'll get finished?
