more use of ground forces would also bring a lot much needed variety to EU3. And once we have some basic training going we can recruit more people from EU1 and 2 im sure that if you have some more structure in EU3 a lot more people would like join.

When people want to create training for special roles, but don`t know how to operate as a rifleman or basic infantry, that worries me.

Casual role-playing is enough for a community like this. Some tehnical stuff can be show on a basic training mission (like ACE3 features, TFAR, etc), others not. As Sheep said, if you read that, 50% of training is done. Just introduce that to your playing style and it should be fine.

Well agree and disagree with you PERO because if people will read about basics from the ShackTac Arma 3 Guide half of the training is done.

However, other 50% is practice of that content in game scenario and under pressure.

I am happy to show people how to play a proper Sniper role, with a two man team and actually do it correctly and effectively. Sniping at insane distances(Aka, ahead of the sound of the gun being fired.) Which in Arma 3 means a Sniper who is literally invisible. In real life it would mean the difference between being able to make a second shot if you missed(which you shouldn't, but things happen maybe a civilian moved in front of your target, whatever.) and having to get the fuck out of dodge.

Anyway, if you have Sniped in EU#3 at 1.2km+ with moving targets or even stationary targets, you know its hard and I can tell you that is a piece of cake with a spotter, you can make shots at 6km if you wished and take out your target or even multiple targets very easily, given the chance.

So back to my point, I can give proper training for operation of a Sniper team. Which then should be limited to the two players that have actually learn't it. Say in Game nights.

Being a Sniper is anything but a lone wolf job. It requires patience, good observation and communication. They are used as back lines of a squad moving through towns and as over-watch when they know they will definitely need it.

**************************

I would also add the suggestion for this reason to have White listed slots. Where people with correct training can play in. So you want to play in a Tank team, okay cool, talk to the Tank Commander, see if you can get into it and arrange for a training session.

You want to play a Auto-rifleman/Ex.Specialist/Sniper/Team Leader role talk to the Squad Leader of Alpha/Bravo/Charlie and come to an arrangement. If they have already got enough trained people they can simply say they will keep an eye out and if someone wants to move to a different speciality the slot becomes open.

Ofc, you will have multiple people who are trained for each role in time and so the flexibility of the server is back to normal. With the addition that everyone knows what they are doing in their roles. it would be great if we could use the Badges to show what someone is trained in and current speciality.

New players to the server can talk to the CMO for assignment and then to the Squad leader for Training and availability.

If its a large operation and new people come online, they are assigned a temporary Squad and role for filling purposes and then properly assigned afterwards.

Training will be organised by the Squad Leaders on the forum for team members between them and the trainers/coaches for time slots and availability. Which might require a few people who have said sure I'll coach to just assign a day maybe once a week where they can so this for a few people who have been selected for the training.

Just a few thousand thoughts and suggestions. As well as putting my own name forward for trainer for people looking to play a proper Sniper role.

Tell me what you think.

Im dissapointed to tell you i have not played on EU3. I also have to admit im not a skilled footsoldier. In fact, im the pilot that takes ur lazy asses to the AO (on EU1), ... i trained myself in flying. Only when flying on my own and flying only.

I have spend many hours training. Training on skills i probably never use. Is it a waste of time? No.

The skills i mastered when learning first aid were never used so far. (To be honest, im happy about it.) Is it a reason to stop the annual first aid training? No.

Training on the stuff you already know is a called perfection. Training on stuff you dont know or use (yet) is called preperation...if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.

Once i have the hardware to run the needed mods, i will be there. And if i like it, i will train as hard as i do on baseballtrainin

phone-reply:

Thos escalated quite quickly, some of the suggedtions here are good and some aim for milsim, we at ahoyworld have never been a 100% milsim "Sir,how high do you want me to jump,Sir?!" We aim for that inbetween Taliban Rabble Rush-> super special delta six team 1000% authentic tactical beard gameplay.

The core of my suggestiion for training was that individual players, new and old, could train their individual skills in group so that when we do gamenights/join on eu#3 in weekdays expect a modicum of cohesion in movement of squads, radio protocol etc. So that of xx user where to invite a friend/eu#1/2 they would say oh this/that looks/sounds cool.

Then we return to that point of inbetween TRR and MILSIM, its for users to get accustomed to move in a somewhat coherent movement and get users accustomed the diffent aspects of eu#3. All of this is still not completely fleshed out and set into motion, i myself will wait until next repo update/Marksman DLC before we move on with the planning.

Wonderful ideas JuX. Dividing everything up into different areas would be a prime way to keep everybody busy and involved. The smaller class sizes would create a much better learning experience. However, this isn't just about specific areas people want to study. The point of the training would be to develop a standard procedure for almost everything on the battlefield that everybody would know such as bounding, room clearing, convoy procedures, and exiting helicopters. My main concern is keeping the training interesting enough to get people to attend and cooperate. What do you guys think?

My semi-tactical goatee is very much in favour of some "light" (read as : AW-styled) training courses, because even as a "laid-back" soldier type one should know at least the 101´s of basic marksmanship (how to use ironsights, gren-sights, scopes), weaponhandling (how and WHEN to use what), formations (lawn-darting in line abreast, tac-columns, etc ) and proper abuse, errr use of vehicles (be it convoy, firesupport, exfil, scouting or just as plain old armored shield against incoming fire) .

Given the right instructor and some mood-lightening camaraderie every training can be made fun .

Train a certain aspect, then see if the training bears fruits in a simple scenario that stresses the just learned techniques, i.e.: get a squad of 12 infantrymen, train them in infantry formations and how to cover each others backs as fire-teams, then play a little inf mission .

Train heli-disembarkation, then get the lads to do it within a set timeframe under fire .

Navigation by compass, map and landmarks

etc

etc

etc

OK long post ahead!!

For now my sugjetion is to keep anny training light and centered around basic stuff, like previous posters said too. We dont need to go full milsim, but some basic formations and radio opperation is a big help for new members to get a good start. The two most common problems now on anny day (and the reason most delays happen in planning --> execution phases is 1) setting up radio's and 2) understanding basic tactical commands (Rules of Engagement, Formations, Loadouts, etc)

Most often i see (and i also sometimes have this myself) people asking what they should use for equipment, there is a handy topic for that here btw: http://www.ahoyworld.co.uk/topic/3877-play-your-roles/, or asking how to set up there radio's (including say teamspeak setup). Getting people up to speed with this both throught (already) existing forum topics and practical training would help speed this up.

Another problem often seen is people often dont want to take up the responsability of command. This ofcourse has several reasons, being inexperienced is one of them, time is another. I sometimes dont have time to lead lately in gamenights, so i tend to decline as of late. However this sometimes leaves only 2 or 3 willing to do SL or TL roles. I guess we could see too encouraging more players to try out commanding a squad if we hold small training sessions or missions build to test and teach the basics of commanding a squad or fireteam, i know i could still learn alot from this cause i notice having trouble making clear and understandable commands at times.

So thats just a few of my thoughts.

Humm, looks longer in edit then it is in reality -_- but...... whatever :D

A good way to start improving the tactical level of play could be to encourage people to read this: http://ttp3.dslyecxi.com/ . Its a really good guide on how to play as a co-operative, tactical group and is divided up into sections covering everything from the basic rifleman to calling in air support. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in having a more 'milsim' like experience.
