It's healthy for the mind. The counter argument could simply be, that if newcomers only play as NATO, then they'll have issues regardless, since we also use reskinned CSAT vehicles

Would also be cool to play as independent factions like LDF for example.

I would like to suggest a rotation on restarts of CSAT and NATO, we switch between one another, have us win NATO assets if we are CSAT and vice versa.

Pukamafin reacted to JJ Cakes in My Newest Dumb Idea: AhoyWorld Helo Transport Scenario
I was playing on my modded Wibbler scenario and had a dumb idea:

Leverage I&A3 code to create a single player scenario where main AO's are spawned 1-by-1 and you fly out of Guardian using any of the transport helos available.  Landing within X number of meters of the center of the AO constitutes a good landing, and landing successfully back at Guardian clears that AO and spawns a new one.  Once all main AO's have been completed you "win".  The reason I say Guardian is it's centrally located.

If you crash on landing or get shot down, that AO is reset and you need to successfully complete both phases to advance.

Main AO's would spawn with all assets they normally spawn with if possible, if not just armored units.

Extra credit: A chance of enemy CAP on AO spawn.

So now we can point new pilots to a scenario that's as close to flying on EU#1 as possible w/o all the death encountered by their passengers during their training phase we normally encounter.

This is most likely an ass ache of epic proportions to implement, but if not and the idea has merit I'd be willing to help out with my limited SQF skillz.  There might be grunt work I could handle.

The way this thread is going is grand. That's something to appreciate.

From what I read, a good part of the dissatisfaction about the unit stemmed from the mission makers for the drop in AW players. I understand that and I think I can relate to the feelings involved.
To slowly lead that into a suggestion, I would mention that I didn't play those missions because the themes didn't interest me. Vietnam is not my cup of tea, but I played a couple for the banter. Star Wars was three standard deviations removed from what I like, as was Halo. About Star Wars, at least, I let Siege know after a TS poke that it wasn't for me. I think a similar thing held true for other players, in that it just wasn't their interest.

So my suggestion is to have regular polls and meetings. Have polls to gauge interests in future campaign ideas. If you are satisfied with the responses even if small, everyone involved can set their expectations correctly. If you're not, lead that into a discussion about why the interest is low and be open-minded to drop or adjust the idea.

Similarly, in particular for staff, have regular meetings. Monthly.
Most people avoid confrontation. That's natural and probably relatable. To foster constructive confrontations, the absolute best you can do is to foster a safe, supported platform for communication. Allow members of staff, perhaps even Vet-FA, to submit points for an agenda prior to the meeting, then go through them. If there's nothing, grand, you've spent a few minutes to leave the meeting in the knowledge that you're right as rain.

In the vein of safe communication, foster good feedback philosophy. The gamenight debriefs are once again a marvellous illustration of that, but it can go further: Praise in public, criticise in private. People experienced in HR are rolling their eyes now.
Over the years, I have been told that I don't look like staff, that I'm too nice. Good! That means you haven't been invited to a private chat by me.
The rules only allow for so much direct action. You have your hackers and your teamkillers, but situations like the topic at hand are not rare, as uncomfortable as they are. The elephant in the room was difficult to navigate around, so I can wager it was easier to stay in one corner with the people already there.

Artemis noted that the division was apparent long ago. Sadly, it wasn't to me. I was frustrated with some AWE decisions, which I aired, and I just reckoned that some animosity from the sidelines stemmed from a disagreement about creative directions. There was some pushback to an unconventional gamenight idea, plus the minor squabble about event sign-ups.

The rest of it, the real of it, was not once brought to my attention besides a salient question by a dev in #mission-makers about using Discord Rich Presence of our own.

A meeting could have cleared this up many months ago. What's done is done, but just perhaps that's something to take forward.

    Hello Members, Donators and Guests,

Welcome to 2021! This is a new year for the World and our Community. Ahoyworld would like to thank all the Donators for your donations towards our community and hope that you continue to as we are reliant on them. This year will be full of good times with friends and new friends on our Public/Modded servers but also on our TeamSpeak server as well (ts.ahoyworld.net) so come and join us if you would like. This year will also be full of Events so keep an eye on our Events page for the full details ranging from Multiple Session Operations (MSO) to Campaign like Zeus missions (regular Mission Makers) to Game nights hosted by individuals like you.

If you would like more information on any of these there will be links for you to click on below. But here is the low down on these:
MSO - Multi Session Operations, we used to use ALiVE but due to instability we switched to just hosting Zeus game nights with a story that spans several weeks. First person only and a somewhat higher immersion mod count. RP is highly encouraged. Tends to put players in hard spots vs AI.

Campaign mission - On our Enhanced server we have regular modded missions. Emphasizing tactics and teamwork.

Game nights - If you've come up with a mission that you would like to run on our servers, this is how you can do it! We have a framework available as a good starting point for your ideas (Mission creator framework), and when the mission is ready, you simply fill out a game night request found here(Game night request form). Staff will work with you to test your mission, make any necessary changes, and find a slot for it in our events calendar.  Can be as simple as a Zeus enhanced I&A session, to custom missions with mods.

Track IR helps a lot. I highly recommend it.

One thing that I believe wasn't mentioned. It helps if you have some horizontal movement when you land. I try to keep some 20-30kph in the final until I'm very low. Only then I drop the speed. Helicopters can land vertically, but it's very slow and you risk getting into vortex ring state.

If you are interested of flight sims and flying in general, you might consider buying a stick. I'm using T-flight hotas x. It cost around 80€ and I find it very good considering the price. I like to use pedals too, but that's optional.

Pukamafin got a reaction from RiverWolf in What’s everyone’s favourite role on Invade & annex?
Transport pilot role for me. I'm terrible on the ground and tend to die a lot. I survive slightly better in the air.

If I have to fight on the ground, I'd go as a repair specialist or a medic.

Pukamafin reacted to Nibbs in Guide UAVs
This one is a lot more chaotic than the Blackfish guide, but I decided to keep it that way as it impresses the need to multitask on UAV, rather than editing it up into self contained chunks. This is purely a functional guide, so it does not describe the expected communication between players, I felt that is something best left to the individual, to learn with, and also does not describe the full extent of the UAV tricks. (such as abusing Darters and datalink to your squad) I was tempted to add them but I already knew this was gonna be a long vid as it was...

I know this is going to be out of date real quick with I&A4, but I also got the impression that this may give some of the guys who are less familiar with the UAVs an idea of how the role works, and the multitasking nature of it, which maybe helps with balancing/testing whatever comes out of the role in I&A4.
