Happy new year to you all, I hope you had a fantastic festive period and look forward to the challenges that 2019 will bring.
 
I must admit I have not been very active with the community the past few weeks as understandably it's a busy period, so I would like to thank the rest of the Team for their hard work during my absent. (sshh Xwatt)
 
I see you've all been made aware of Chucks situation and I for one will be sad to see him go but also happy for him to get a life
so I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chuck for his dedication to the community and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.
 
As you've guessed correctly Xwatt will be taking over Chucks role of Public server manager (Core Staff) he will be responsible for the likes of EU#1#2#7 and TeamSpeak, so any issues or updates that needs doing you'll have to consult with him.
Lindi has now been promoted to Admin T2 for taking the responsibilities of the Spartan Lead Project, he will supervise the team, handle recruitments and organise game nights.
JANXOL we now be responsible for the XMLs, any questions or issues goes directly to him.
I hope you all join me in welcoming them to their new role and be patient with them as you were with me.

A world that we collectively felt in 2018 as the hottest year in recorded history. Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow.
Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.
We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by this.
For our children’s children, and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed. I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted.

Hello Guys and Girls,
 
It's time for me to leave and pass the baton over to someone else. I've got a very busy time coming up as I'm planning on joining the Royal Navy as an Aeronautical Engineer in 2019. I'm currently training to get through the fitness and swimming tests. They are looking for 2.4km in 9 minutes so I've got a lot of work to do!
 
I first joined this community back in September 2015, after watching Luetins famous Invade and Annex tutorial. I did a bit of flying and loved it. I thought it would be hilarious to dress up as a civilian complete with fedora and fly people around. Someone said I look like Chuck Norris because of the beard, so next time I was online I changed my name and I guess it somewhat stuck with me? Fact - I've never watched any of Chuck Norris' films.
 
I worked my way up from Member to Field Ambassador to Spartan to Admin and finally to Core Staff around this time last year.
 
Ill remain as is, to see through the launch of I&A4 which is hopefully going to be soon if the BETA tests go well in the very near future. After the release ill go back to member. I plan on still sticking my head in the door every now and then depending on when I'll be free.
 
I'd like to thank Mark T, we joined roughly at the same time and rose through the ranks at roughly the same pace, we recommended each other to the next role up and supported each other throughout. So thanks, Mark.
 
Its been great spending my time with you lot and it's unfortunate that I can't dedicate the time that I used to be able to!
 
My replacement will be announced tomorrow. talk about jumping in my grave

(this text doesn't have any new ideas, just my general opinion - save you some time hehe)
 
Game is old, and players steer to new games as @Ryko said it. ( I'm too lazy for quoting, sorry Ryko).
Last time when I was playing on AW servers was like a month on EU#1 constantly like every day. I did not care about what type of gun I had or what vehicle I'm in. What outfit or loadout I'm carrying. I've played and happily joined on EU#1 because of players. After a lot of AOs, I&A seemed monotone. And it was. But that boredom was always beaten by good teamwork and fun to play with players who cherish to achieve same goal. Even lame as it is: Clear AO. We just don't shoot Armamen's. We talk to each other while trailing together or mocking our driver while he flips his vehicles like numerous times. Those moments for me were golden. 
 
We have been all kicked with same nostalgia about earlier days of EU#3. And as more we emphasize on those old times, we won't be able to reach same satisfaction on playing today. You cannot achieve "greatness" of old days by living in past. You need to comprehend them and move on. Live for new moments even as small as they may become.
A lot of you and including me are saying just give us radio, ACE and RHS and we are set. This needs to stop. We were constantly running AW staff in circle and even now. I wonder even if we have those three core mods, how long when discussion for more mods would come in again. So please don't blame arsenal or staff for whitelists and whatnot. They are actively listening to community and I haven't seen other communities that give supportive attention to new ideas. But we have to fruit new ideas.
 
I know I've said not return in past, But just an example on topic of arsenal/faction problem: Remember Fallujah. That linearly stupid map. Why everybody loved to play on it? It was easy to come to location, no brainstorming, move in convoy, slap couple of wheels, receive IV from your medic and RTB after at least two deaths. Simple and yet ton of fun since you'd chat with other players. So no, In my opinion, arsenal is not a problem.
Yes I've heard players on EU#3 saying that they feel handicapped not having their faction. For me it never mattered. It just adds stuff I don't pay attention to. Even vehicles, if it can bring me from A to B. I'm fine with that. So no, in my opionion, factions are not a problem.
 
What we needed was diversity of gameplay. Stiletto delivered. Ton of diversity. After time it seems repetitive. Fine return tomorrow, fun again. And after a while, around EU#3 corner you can hear: "Gauntlet was the best" again. ?
Summer, when I had little bit of free time, I went to play other game since nobody was on AW.
Friend contacted me and asked me to join on EU#3. I was really pleased and honored since I thought I left good impression on that person while introducing him to EU#3. I was very sad since nobody was onto it. I've spent countless hours on EU#3 even when only two people are present. 10 am morning - No problem. We rolled.
I guess by my weakness last paragraph nostalgia kicked in under all my efforts to avoid it. Heh.
 
And now, when I'm out of the loop for almost half a year, I'm afraid I don't know the answer on how to attract new players.

Where do I begin? 2018 has been a very adventurous year for AhoyWorld! we have seen a change in Leader, a significant Staff restructure and even quite a new playerbase. I'm sure that 2019 will be another adventuresome year for AhoyWorld, and there will be many changes, and we hope that we can still continue to thrive with your generous donations.

For anyone looking to update I&A3 -
 
The mission uses a fairly old method for finding a flat, empty location that's not on water. An example:
private _position = [[[getMarkerPos currentAO , PARAMS_AOSize]],["water","out"]] call BIS_fnc_randomPos; The problem that we identified is that BIS_fnc_randomPos itself uses BIS_fnc_getArea to validate the array presented to it, and the data we are sending doesn't conform to that, thus throwing the error.
 
We are almost finished an update to I&A3 which should allow the mission to work, involving changing all the references to BIS_fnc_randomPos to the more modern BIS_fnc_findSafePos function... about 79 in total, scattered across all the files.
 
Now you know why I wanted to start I&A4 completely from scratch!
