Mission Name: Sidestep Server Details: IP: 116.202.224.207 Port: 2302 Mods Required: Arma 3 Preset OP Sidestep.html TS address: ts.ahoyworld.net TEAMSPEAK MISSION BRIEFING FOR ALL PLAYERS WILL BEGIN AT 19:00 UTC Expected Mission Length: 120+ minutes (may go over or under expected mission length) Player Slots: 36 (5 Squads of 6, 2 Vortex and a 4 man command element) Situation The CHADS are tied down in Finland, they reported and NATO forces have confirmed the detection of some strange signals and even more concerning electrical surges originating from the island of Gogland (Suursaari in finnish) (loc: Gulf of Finland between Finland, Estonia and Russia). SAT imagery is blocked by interference, drone coverage is zero, for unknown reasons our drones went haywire as soon as they approached the island, civilian communication seized to exist. Something is happening on that island, and your job is to find out what. Under the cover of night and with the help on an oil tanker ship your company set up a temporary resupply and command point near the main island, and your job today will be to investigate the sources of the strange signals, approx origin points have been marked on your map. Don't linger around for too long, our presence may be interpreted as an act of war. Assets: 3 x MH-6 Various ground support vehicles Friendly Forces: BLUFOR Enemy Forces: Unknown Civilians: Civilian presence unknown Mission Infiltrate the island of Suursaari, investigate the origins of the strange signals and electrical interference in order to reestablish SAT and Drone coverage. Re-establish military communication relay between Finland and NATO forces, if possible, confirm civilian presence and investigate the cause of civilian communication disappearance. The operation is covert, be as silent as possible, direct contact with civilians is to be avoided if possible. Execution Objectives: 1. Infiltrate the island 2. Investigate the source of the strange signals and report 3. Re-establish civilian and military communication (possible signal jamming device must be destroyed or deactivated) 4. Exfil Movement Plan: At Commanders discretion Rules of Engagement: Covert operation(!!!), avoid contact engage only if being engaged upon, based on current squad orders, may change if the situation develops Civilians are present in the area so collateral damage and civilian visual contact is to be kept to a minimum. Admin & Logistics Equipment & Resupply: At the commander’s control, assets are available at base to facilitate this. We have identified 2 targets of importance to the loyalists which we intend to neutralise. The removal of these assets from the loyalists will severely weaken their position allowing our forces to move ever deeper into their territory. Our intel has suggested that there could be a loyalist commander on Isla Hazena. If so he would make a fine target to capture. Assets: 3 x BTR80 (Usable only when a full crew is available) 2 x Mi-24G Various ground support vehicles Friendly Forces: Army of the Western African Republic Enemy Forces: Loyalist forces controlled by the government of Joseph Lumumba Neutral Forces: A coalition of UN troops Civilians: Civilian presence to be expected, concentrated in built up areas. Mission Liberate both high value assets from the loyalist forces. The first being an airfield that has been used to launch aerial reinforcements and combat aircraft in the past. The second is a major fuel processing centre, the loss of which could cripple the loyalists ability to transport man and munitions. Intel also suggests that a HVT may be present, he is to be captured if possible. Execution Objectives: 1. Capture the designated airfield 2. Liberate Isla Hazena and deny the loyalists access to the fuel processing facilities there. 3. If possible capture Loyalist commander Abdelaziz Ghali (intel on his appearance will be supplied) 4. Engage and neutralise any loyalist forces or equipment encountered Movement Plan: At Commanders discretion Rules of Engagement: Enemies may be engaged on sight based on current squad orders Civilians are present in the area so collateral damage is to be kept to a minimum. They have begun targeting UN forces. They have ambushed a UN group escorting a humanitarian aid convoy to the North and simultaneously begun to assault the main UN HQ in Camara. The UN forces have requested our aid. As it turns out there were several UN aid workers trapped in Kirabo before the blockade was broken. We have received thanks from senior UN officials in the area for handling the situation with minimal loss to civilian infrastructure in the town. We have explained that this was managed through carefully drawing the loyalists out of the city before engaging them. However, all is not well, now that the loyalists cannot exert direct control of our supply routes they have resorted to an indirect method. They have begun rocket attacks on major towns and infrastructure in the southern half of the island. Neutralise the artillery so it is no longer a threat. 3. Loyalist forces are continuing to wage a semi-guerrilla style campaign against the newly formed government. The loyalists hold much territory as the forces of the new government have not been able to muster the strength to take and hold these areas. This is the only restriction for playing any role in this mission. Situation Tensions between the United States and Iran have reached new heights. Neither side is backing down and both sides continue to posture with increasing displays of brinkmanship. War Hawks within the United States Government, including the President, have decided that enough is enough. The United States will strike first in an effort to prevent catastrophe in the region and protect the country's interests in the international economy. Critical to the invasion, named Operation Fighting Resolve, is the capture of Landay Airfield in the inland province of Anizay. This airfield is used to launch interceptor aircraft as well as acting as the main support base for Iran's mobile ballistic missile divisions. Secondarily, to the base's west is a crucial Iranian Command and Control Center (CCC). Capturing, disabling, and investigating the CCC will enable conventional US forces to establish a foothold as they move inland during the follow on stages of the invasion. The unit that has been tasked with mission is the 2nd Battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment. No unit is more perfect for this mission than the 75th Ranger Regiment with their expertise in direct action and airfield seizure. Assets: 2 x C-17 Globemaster III 2 x F-35A 1 x UH-60M 6 x JLTV Friendly Forces: US Army - 75th Ranger Regiment Enemy Forces: Iranian Army Iranian Air Force Civilians: Civilians are present in villages Mission Conduct an airborne assault of Landay Airfield and then move to engage the CCC over land. Capture the CCC and destroy communications equipment, search for intel, and destroy Iranian's CCC network Movement Plan: Planned paradrop followed by commander's discretion of execution Rules of Engagement: Armed personnel may be engaged on sight. Civilians are present in the area so collateral damage is to be kept to a minimum. Only buildings clearly being used for a military purpose may be engaged. Optional Tasks: None Resupply: At the commander’s discretion assets may be airlifted or airdropped to resupply forces. Reinforcements: Unlimited (allowed by helicopter after the capture of the airfield) Command: Overall command lays with Regimental Command Operational control on the ground lies with the Platoon Commander

However, this time the United States and the international community is not letting Russia's occupation of the Island of Malden go unanswered. Russian Marines have set up SAM sites on oil rigs to the East and West of the island as well as a sprawling artillery fire base to protect the island against an invasion. In order for the USMC's beach landings to be successful all three sites must be eliminated. SOCOM has dispatched NSW Group 1, SDV Team 1 to accomplish the mission. The SEALs are tasked with using SDVs to approach both oil rigs undetected, destroy the SAM radars or missile launchers, then move by helicopter to attack and destroy the artillery fire base, and finally defend the fire base until the USMC can commence its invasion on the northern beaches. 14. For me the best piece of advice is to use minor corrections. The most common error is to over correct which leads to a cascade of constantly over compensating and you then cannot get into a stable hover or movement. Try getting into your landing phase about a kilometre out. When I was new I generally tried to have my final approach be as straight as possible, I then only had to worry about managing my altitude and speed. The less things you have to think about the better. Also check out
  15. I'd definitely recommend you try it with the Hot Lz's turned off for the first few attempts. I remember when I used it when I was learning to fly in arma and it can be enough to try and figure out what is going on without guys shooting at you. That said we have some very talented guys in the community so just ask if you have any questions.
  16. If anyone wants a reminder of what the current awards are: Or probably better just check the submissions from last year, some of which are quite funny: As for a category I would like to see: Best screenshot from AW or AW events (we capture a lot of cool moments from events, would be cool to see some more shared)
  17. See now you have to think do I put enough thought into missions to add Easter eggs that might give insight into the campaign.

A small CHAD force has been contracted to train and command the local army until they are ready to operate independently. While the numbers of trained personnel are still low the Combat Hounds have proposed a to run a mechanised unit consisting of both CHAD operators and local soldiers. This would allow for local soldiers to gain experience while the leadership and experience of the CHADS can be leveraged. The platoon will consist of a number of APCs with dedicated crews. These amphibious vehicles will be the main source of transport and resupply for the men in the field. All CHADS are required to have their vaccinations up to date prior to deployment, and have their claim for their Combat zone advisory bonus submitted before leaving their home country. More details to be revealed soon. A Combat Hounds Officer inspecting the local forces on arrival in country: **Marketing Material courtesy of Gambit**

  20. Also, the below functions are restricted, is there a reason for this Edit: There are a lot more functions restricted which are used daily.
  21. Not a fan of the map markers fading, clutter on the map has never been an issue which needs to be sorted.
