    Well,most pub pilots are simply not aware of the rules and even usual EU1+2 pilots refer to "destroying rather than fixing" a broken chopper which "could" be prevented by adding the existing rules to the Notes of the mission or attaching a rather simple billboard nxt to hangars so you could refer to this before starting a useless argument or kicking them after several trys ...

    I mean,the simple Rules page before spawning in the mission isnt really ... lets say detailed about the pilot rule change.

     

    And pls keep off spreading rumors of so called "pink KUMAs" - we all know its a myth and will retain a myth untill certain individuals will worship the unstoppable power of the mighty pink Panzer and make em spawn stock once a clown connects to EU1 ...

  2. Lately,it has come to my attention people judge me partly to OP for I+A and have their fun spoiled by my reign of terr .. fun !

    Therefor,i pledge for your opinion on possible solutions that might make both sides happy and coexist :blink:

  3. Uhm ... so i better not voice my opinion on this - by now most are aware of how i deal with such situations - which is getting a admin to deal with it shortly.

    But on the other hand,if you dont get hold of a admin quickly you could use the "report" feature to get the case reviewed,meanwhile the "offender" rampages on and you have to take the beatings ... OR ...

     

    Let me tell you the tale of yesterdays and todays events i witnessed/was part of :

    I played early and got me hands on a T100 i used for several AO´s and sides as usual,so no big thing there and i dont even recall anymore how the story really started but this guy (which name(s) i wont mention here,as MK already dealt with it today - cheers again ;) ) parked nxt to me and another guy that was with me in the T100 and drove it off our established VAS pos in base in order to fkk us up in our ride.

    Which didnt really go down that easily as we managed to reflipp the tank and this very guy then tried to use a Mora to fire and destroy the T100 i was using as he couldnt get it ...

    I parked then outside base watchign his moves and telling him in chat that this wouldnt go down like he expected and trying to get him settled - but to no luck.

    I couldnt get hold of a admin at this early time,took some evidence screens,told an AHOY member on my friends list what happend and then took the kill shot.

    3 times.

    As he would not stop.

    Today,early morning again,i joined this guy was pilot.

    So,i took it no harm from him today,he learned his lesson ... i assumed.

    About 1h later i was helping a guy refueling the Cheetah on the service pad when i got rammed by a bobcat,driven by this very guy under different nickname (suspected this already) - he managed to flip a Slammer a guy used,killed me,then disconnected.

    About an hour later i was asking Luft if he can get hold of an admin and 2min later MK dealt with the situation.

     

    This isnt exactly how the whole story went,but it gives you an idea of (at times) self-defence (to an extend) could/should be tolerated.

    I m fully aware of the rules and i (admit) bending/breaking the rules on (certain) times ... and i m totally fine receiving a ban having done so - rules are there to obey and are NOT arguable at all,still - from various years in the MP buisness in ARMA (before and after) i will execute my rule of preventing me/my team/my equipment from being harmed by retards.

    FINAL POINTS :

     

    What would of prevented this from happening :

     

    - i could of reported the incident yesterday myself via the report feature

    - i could of joined TS in the evenings to make a admin aware of the incident

     

     

    SUMMARUM :

     

    - justice wheels work slow at times,but they work

    - dont get to attached to your gear

    - you will die (sooner or later anyway ingame)

    - enjoy the game

    First off,always keep in mind side missions are small additional tasks that offer smaller squads a playground - they are not supposed to be a 2nd AO,so you may cut a few off your ideas out and spare such stuff for a ZEUS mission if wanted.

     

    Secondly,you never gonna keep out vehicles from missions,someone (genius or illiterate) will figure out a way to clear your missions by using those ... but well,nothing wrong with trying  :)

     

    Third and last,Kavalalalalala isnt the most optimized city to have  a war in,AI squads get lost,plank by houses,armor will get completly lost,the list is endless so to say.

     

     

     

     

    And oh yea,the Hold your ground mission was done back in A2 and it mostly will end like this :

     

    - HYG mission spawns

    - players go there,the first reaching the obj will trigger the mission and be overrun in minutes

    - Mission fail

     

    or

     

    - HYG mission spawns

    - none moves there at all

    - Mission fail by time

     

    Then you want a enforced/entrenched position to defend on,which is possible,but very limited in Altis - and scripting such a fortress is a bigger effort than making a mission - so i d drop this idea very early ...

     

     

     

     

     

    The max AI amount limit is a made up example from back in A2 days,i m not sure what the current usable AI count max is for a 60 player server,but ima assuming 1 AO is equal to around 180 AI (9-10 squads,single occupants and 4-8 tanks/vehicles/cars) while side missions usually feature 60 AI (3-4 squads,2x2 snipers,3-5 armor/vehicles)

    Do the math :blink:

    Im pretty sure one of the hardcore coding slaves can answer this way better what is possible without interfering with the server performance to much!

  5. the "cleanup" script kicks in regulary,not really depending on end of AO - it does affect the whole map,so no matter what and where you place something on ground it´ll vanish due to the script in a regular timed fashion (each 10min?)

    For testing (in short) its best to dePBO the mission file,find the side mission folder and delete the existing ones,then paste your "new" mission in it and PBO the stuff again,put it in your mPmission cache and host it on via MPmenu  on (pw protected) LANserver so you can test with a few more people ..

    I m not even sure if A3 missions are build same way as A1 and A2 mission were,so my tip might be useless ...

    But as you already discovered you need alot of shit installed you never before cared about - thats why i havnt gave it a try yet ...

    Everyone got great ideas,but there s very,very little people that can make that idea a working,enjoyable mission  hehehehe

     

    Still,dont drop your motivation yet,thats just the usual starter disaster

    Let us remember that they use their free time to work with main and side missions.

    Please be patient because things take time however it will come

  8. Quick thing.. Has anyone considered an AI modifying MOD such as Vcom?

     

    Actually adding a AI enhancement mod like ASR,Vcom,similar could be a nice addition BUT from my experience on A2 running such a mod on a pub server willl get you massive QQ about the AI to strong and similar,altho you can "fine tune" the behaviour/excessivity of the AI in the long run it does not necessary attracts new players - and similar to ACE its a big rewrite/addition of the mission setup too.

    I´m all for having smarter AI,but would i join a seperate server just for this? Guess not ...

    And you may check if any modifciation of the usual mission may disadvantage the regular guy connecting with no mods at all.

     

     

     

    Basically what i'm getting at here is that if you're going to do this new modded server make it SIMPLE forget all the uniforms, extra vehicles and shit. 

    Just use VANILLA arma with some extra stuff like JUST ACE and ACRE.

    You guys testing mission files and stuff - can you hand me a number of how many people we r actually talking here?

    More or less than 10 people? Just asking out of curiosity - i counted prop 2 handfull people supporting this,when in reality not even 50% will make full time use of such a server  ... i´d appreciate the information.

     

    And wouldnt it be easier to just rewrite "some" EU3 missions and limit mods for that certain part of missions so its a easy step in for people new to mods and still getting their fix of hardcore gameplay opposed to EU1/2.

    Get rid of the exotic islands,the weapon mod requirement so people with the basic mods can enjoy and the full loaded modpeople can still join in those sessions ...

    Seems like a WIN / WIN to me for both sides and AHOY at all.

    Same could be said about your post,dude ;)

    Thing is,performance of the server and accessability for users is the main priority - therefor you want to keep the mods on a level which it does not confilct with either of these - several mods have several (minor) issues or are hard to understand/use for the general "i just downloaded this game" customer (which is still your goal to attract).

     

    I dont even see the need for such a server in the first place,because you want ACE > join EU3 (apart from all the upcoming questions of user HOW TO BLABLABLA) ....  Acre and tFar not rly needed for better gameplay (imo) and the usual mentioned method works fine if you setup channels (TS) or use a customized group to talk to

    Hmmm,only stuff i "could" see usefull might be the ShackTac stuff (HUD,close quarter enhancement,etc) but this could be done via allowing the server key and ffs why you want clothes? :blink:

     

    Summary,i dont have one - i just do not see the need for this in the first place and all the drama about it :P

  10. Can confirm this,a side mission spawned literally on the border of base,leading to enemies attacking the spawn area base assets.

    Shouldnt be much of a issue,seems that some side missions checkfail their position when spawning (script issue)

    Really nasty peckers,as soon as i spawned in i got shot and was about to b*tch about freaking TKs,then realized its actually enemy in base.

    Base protection didnt allowed to go the usual way dealing with em,grabbed a Offroad and ran over the shooter ...

    I class that a minor issue,should be easily fixed by correcting code/script/sqf/whatever

  11. First off,good job taking a challenge and delivering!

    Might check this one out over the Easter weekend and see what u created :)

     

     

     

    Servers cost money. You need to host game modes you know people will play. There is an existing demand for I&A EU1/2, hosting another server or dropping one would be a big call to make for something "untested".

     

    The best shot this mission would have is to find support with the player base and be tested in a game night. If people enjoy it, who knows.

     

    Secondly,i dont see the "demand" for a TvTvT mission at all - the idea kinda turns up min. one time on any ARMA sequel - and let me tell you this,it never sold (due to very different reasons i dont feel the need to mention in detail).

     

    The only time i see this gonna work out is a "gamenight" like you mentioned,when you have a set player base and can take a similar setup for all 3 teams (playerwise) - but sorry again - i dont see this taking off in MP and im even seeing way less chances having this hosted on a "payed" server b/c its a waste of slots/money in the long run.

    remember,that increasing the side missions/double it/triple it/combine it would massivly affect performance in a already enemy struggling game ... hell AO´s feature half the size of enemy troops as its been a year ago and while side feature a perfectly setup for small teams to get their part of the fight its still at a state i see 15+ guys and girls try,fail and give up cause the enemy features a to hvy counterpart to their setup.

    Again,anyone would luv to have bigger enemy count at AO and side missions,but the reality is - the game doesnt hand out those numbers and have the server working perfectly fine for 60 different people to  satisfy this need.

     

    A change/addition in side missions is always welcome,maybe even spice up a few existing ones - but double and triple side missions wont happen .. in this game or in the next ARMA games.

  13. Don't get me wrong, the goal you are having is good, but I think this method will probably backfire. Also, when looking at the problem in general, we are not in a situation where it is currently impossible to get to the AO by heli in one piece. Usually the majority of pilots on knows what they are doing to a certain extent, and there is 1-2 noobs. This doesn't currently break the gameplay. If the goal is to get the level of pilots up to 5 competent ones at any time I don't think this is the right solution.

    Also,considering the workload to monitor this and keepin it up will take far more than this will achieve in the long run imo.

    The repair your chopper rule is a nice idea,i proposed that on a regular base ... but i d limit this to base and 5k around.

     

    And about the chopper  turrets,wouldnt it be easier to spawn them with "locked" guns by default?

    I agree on removing the Panther,as i rarely ever in my 2000h I+A i seen it being used in action other than "rushing" to AO (get the joke?)

    There are a very few people i saw using it to an advantage,but this is more like chance of a lifetime - therefor DECAP approved.

     

    Funny idea suggesting pilots to use Hunters to ferry people to AO,the whole point of a pilot should be driving - this would safe countless (ingame)lifes haha :blink:

     

    Regarding the Hunters - let me tell you a fun story from back in the days i started playing I+A - going for side missions back then was a harrassment having to rely on a pilot to transfer you there and not nubaland you directly into death,so smart people took Hunters to get there ... fun issue back then was a Hunter HMG attracted missiles and gunship attacks like a warm shit does to flys,so HMG´s were deathtraps literally (on the whole map,as jets and gunships flown not so close by AO like they do now).

    So,you had to use the Hunter without HMG to insert alive to combat as they dont get tracked by enemy air that easily - which in turn means you had to take way more time to get a side mission done than with the HMG counterpart ... :ph34r:

    So,i d more propose getting the enemy air activity more aware for ground targets than it is now in order to stop the Hunternage going on about the past months (3-4 Hunters driven solo to AO/side missions) - my opinion only

     

    About the trucks ... never was a fan of those anyway,i d say get rid of 50% of em and none will even notice (1 Repair 1 Fuel 1 Flatbed 1 Med HMTT)

    And when you r on cutting it,get rid of the damn FOB trucks spawning double/triple with each AO that doesnt move the FOB pos ... its a clusterfuck and the pos of the FOB trucks should be way,way more off the base ...

    Cause srsly,its a shitty not-worked-out yet-concept and we all know it ^_^

     

    Oh yea,preloaded trucks ... NOT GONNA HAPPEN !

    You to lazy to invest 3min to load backpacks into your lorry before you drive 15min to AO only to be stopped by a rock cutting your tire 2 min before destination ... then DONT lorry - similar to the wannabe tankers crying for a lift option ;)

    When it comes to admins for the servers - in a perfect world - you had for each server 4-5 core guys/players that are online at different times over the day/night to react to problems/issues that occur.

    But,lets do the math quickly (ARMA only)  - EU1 x4,EU2 x4,EU3 x4  - thats 12 guys being able to make decicions in behalf of AHOY and all of em should have a decent sense of justice/rules/problem solving/representation of AHOY.

    The Staff need to make sure those very admins are trustable and dedicated - you r not looking for 2month admin,you want long term relations with your game admins,in order to keep the machine running smoothly.

    Then you d might want a different rcon access pw for EACH server,so one game admin cannot corrupt all 3 servers,but thats just a tech. thing aside...

    I m only talkin game admins here,dont forget the staff thats required o keep the servers updated/restarted on regular base/etc.

     

    Basic point is,even the staff likes to play ARMA at times,they should not suffer due continues monitoring of servers /chat,too

    So,everyone on AHOY (members and regular players) should take some responsibility to assure AHOY servers stay the way we enjoyed em in the past ...

    friendly,helpfull and a fun time to be had on em
