We're rallying for another mid-week bout of Frontlines!

    Mission Length

~2 hours, with a chance to carry on open-ended

    Mod set/how to join

    https://forums.ahoyworld.net/topic/18347-how-to-join-awe-frontlines/

    Situation

    Spoiler

We are tasked with clearing out Chernarus, weakening the enemy's foothold and reducing their numbers.

    Friendly Forces

    Livonia Defence Force (LDF)

1x 3-man HQ (CMD, RTO, UAV)

    3x 9-man Rifle Squads

    1x 3-man Fire Support Group

    2x 3-man Vehicle Crew

    2x 2-man Air Crew

    1x 2-man Logistics

    Independent Forces

    Chernaurus Guerrillas

    Enemy Forces

Russian VMF is an organised, regular force suspected to have access to these assets:

    Regular infantry

    Airborne QRF

    Motorised and mechanised transport

    Armour

    Rotary-wing aircraft

    Fixed-wing aircraft

Reconnaissance has identified key locations serving as radio communications facilities to sabotage or capture. Reports of quick-response Forward Operating Bases as well as supply depots around the island are also coming in.

    Mission

Gain a foothold and fortify our position. Capture strategic objectives. Establish favourable relations with the local populace.

    Execution

    At CMD’s discretion.

Section cohesion is of utmost importance. The enemy outnumbers us greatly and will not hesitate to exploit gaps in our situational awareness.

Counter-attacks and a general resistance to our efforts will ask for quick shifts in our tactics.

    Admin / Logistics

Reinforcements are unlimited and directed by CMD. Resupply is CMD’s prerogative.

Enemy prisoners of war (POW) are to be treated well and brought to base for questioning.

The Logistics team has full discretion as to the fortification of our FOB under CMD's guidance. If no other tasking, default to supply and POW escort.

    Command / Signal

Operations and ground control lie solely with the Platoon Commander. The RTO handles air traffic and can supplement communications.

Support unit slots are under Platoon Command's prerogative and can be asked to reconsider their slot, but never forced to give them up in favour of another player. All units must be tasked fairly.

Squad leaders are responsible for the operational effectiveness of their teams.

  2. Pacific Confrontation

    Situation

Following yesterdays engagements all governments involved have been in intense talks. Neither side is declaring war, merely a dispute.

During the fighting yesterday another submarine and group of patrol boats slipped past our sensors, raided and seized control of a US volcanic research facility on the island of Anatahan.

All governments involved have been hush hush about why a volcanic research facility would be a military target. Fortunately for us we are in the chain of command and know that the volcanic research facility is just a cover for a missile test site. The facility was set up for testing of cruise missile intercept capability's of the NASAMS system, we have to assume the Chinese now control said system.

A Type 071 Amphibious Transport Dock and its escort, a type 052B Destroyer is making haste for the island. Presumably to reinforce the Chinese defences and to load the larger items from the facility. We have observed helicopters flying from the ships to the island with sling loaded cargo, presumably smaller Chinese defensive systems.

    Mission

Retake the facility with minimal damage to infrastructure & prevent the incoming amphibious landing ship from arriving at the island.

Remember outside our exclusion zone is international waters/airspace.

  4. Exercise Pacific Cooperation

    image.thumb.png.d8d53723a70319e2ff88b135d57a5e09.png

    Situation

Its that time of the year, ANZUS and Japan have met up on the Mariana islands for a joint training exercise. A variety of outdated equipment has been laid out for target practice across land, air and sea. The day is expected to be filled with plenty of bomb drops & dogfights.

Its not all sunshine and rainbows though. China is keen to get an eye on our operations and gain as much intelligence as possible on how we operate. As such a fleet of Chinese ships has been spotted far out to the west in international waters, we suspect small drones have been launched throughout the exercise. Due to this two jets have been acting as 24/7 QRA to intercept any drones we spot.

For the safety & security of the exercise a strict exclusion zone has been set up around our airspace. No other flights or ships should be within this zone.

    Mission

Conduct "Training" exercises and be prepared for possible Chinese interference.

Remember outside our exclusion zone is international waters/airspace.

  6. So with Georgian Intervention coming to an end and we (I at least) have learned a lot when it comes to unit balancing, what works for us and most importantly had fun I think.

I have a couple ideas of what I want to make next and would like to know what you guys would like to go with. Feel free to read the options first or just vote, up to you.

    The options

Non-specific number of Caucasus missions. "Return of the USSR" (World vs New USSR)

    • Personalised airframes for players (for example a UK jet of choice for me (fictional or really used), for you which ever country and module you would like)
    • Mix of carrier & airfield operations

3 part pacific campaign on Marianas (ANZUS & Japan vs China)

    • Focus on Carrier and shipping operations
    • The map does not have much real estate as far as land goes so making a prolonged campaign involving ground pounding would not be ideal.
    • FPS in multiplayer can be low.

Paid map campaign (Persian gulf, Syria or Falklands *when that's out*)

    • For now I am sticking with free maps so this is not a poll option. But later on I would definitely like to go over to another map, perhaps only a 1 or 2 part mission so free trials can be used rather than the purchase of the maps or running every other week in tandem with a free map e.g. World vs USSR one week followed by Falkland's the next, repeat.
  7. Georgian Intervention pt.4 [FINAL]

    image.thumb.png.633bd41a8628ed3684bdb3f62f637fb1.png

    Situation

After 20 days of almost purely air combat the focus has turned to the ground. American and Georgian ground forces have amassed to face the Russian ground forces at Krymsk, Its shaping up to be a hell of a fight.

Our ground forces are outnumbered and counting on CAS taking off from Gelendzhik to help them win this battle. Unfortunately for us the weather is terrible, cloudy and raining with a base of 9000ft. Our side wont be the only ones with CAS in the air.

While the carrier group would send their jets to assist, a giant bomber formation is barrelling south directly towards the carrier group. All available carrier jets have been sent to intercept.

    Mission

Provide CAS for the ground forces at Krymsk and protect the carrier group.

    • Airfield based aircraft will head to the battlefield at waypoint 3 and provide CAS returning to airfield or FARP (WP2) for rapid rearms then re-join the fight. (this will be an intense fight with very short travel times, respawn jets will be hot start on runway to enable custom loadouts on respawn)
    • Once carrier jets have completed their task they will return to either carrier or airfield for rearm and join the CAS effort. (carrier respawn jets will be bases at Gelendzhik, the bomber intercept mission is a one life deal.)

  9. Georgian Intervention pt.3

    image.thumb.png.f684c9adfa71fb3c6403aa4ae246b096.png

    Situation

All strikes along the coast were successful and a US carrier group has safely entered the Black sea.

Sochi-Adler was hit hard by cruise missile strikes, Russian forces withdrew allowing Georgian forces to push and take the airfield allowing our ground based jets to operate closer to the objective.

The majority of Russia's high readiness jets have been destroyed leaving a low number of poorly armed & older jets to fight. With active anti shipping missiles destroyed the Russian reserves are being shipped into Gelendzhik through a known shipping route. This is a major threat to the carrier group, they can not be allowed to make landfall.

F-14's & F/A-18's will head for the ships while helicopters will launch from the Tarawa and with support from ground based jets head to the port and destroy the infrastructure that would allow the offloading of these lethal weapons.

    Mission

Destroy Russian supply ships and port infrastructure.

  13. Georgian Intervention pt.2

    image.thumb.jpeg.003e740fb9d546e15d0c5dd74e4b20e9.jpeg

    Situation

Following the attack on Nalchik in preparation for possible retaliatory strikes from Russian air assets we have been pulled back to Kobuleti.

A US carrier group intends to enter the black sea to support air operations. A series of strikes will take place across the Russian and Republic of Abkhazia's coast to clear the area of land based anti ship missiles.

Having seen US resolve to support Georgia in combat the pro Georgian people of Abkhazia have begun to revolt against the Abkhazia government. Sukhumi has been taken by the pro Georgian forces, we have gained permission to use Sukhumi airfield to rearm & refuel our jets.

    Mission

Destroy the anti shipping missile command post & radars in the Gudauta area.

  15. Rules & Guidelines for the creation & submission of DCS gamenights.

    • = Rule
      • = Guideline

    Submission of mission/campaign

    • Submit your mission via the gamenight request form at least 2 weeks in advance of desired date.
      • Include if SRS will be required by players, skin packs or mods within mods required section
      • If a mod that requires files server side is included please allow up to two weeks extra time for server setup. (4 weeks in advance total)
    • A test mission file must be ready to go with your submission.
      • This is so we can ensure the server likes your setup e.g map, scripts or any additional mods before we get close to event.
    • Mission must be complete and sent 1 week before event.
      • I recommend loading your mission in SP, using time acceleration and an invincible jet/heli to test run your mission before sending it.
    • Final Mission file must be handed over by at most 3 days before event date.
      • This is so module requests on event post can happen.
      • Add a closing date for module request on your event post that follows this rule.

    Scheduling

    • Gamenight dates & times can overlap with arma gamenights.
      • Be prepared for potential low player counts if desired date has an Arma GN at the same time.
      • You will be informed if an overlap is happing so if desired you may request another date/time.
    • You may submit for any day or time.
      • Be aware of days players are free, see this post for guidance.

    Mission rules & guidelines

The following will be adjusted based on feedback.

    • The Su-25T must always be included.
    • Best efforts must be made to include modules owned by players.
      • If a module is requested that is not operated by the faction we are playing, add it as a stand in for something not in DCS, adjust it to or bring another faction into the fight that does.
      • DLC maps are not forbidden, keep in mind the number of people who own the terrain when thinking about making the mission.
    • Ensure enough of desired modules are available.
      • Pre place what you think is enough and place a optional poll on your event post asking what people will take.

Could the Swedish not lend us a viggen for my birthday.

I don't think anything needs restricting, BK-90s which are the only OP weapons require precise targeting to be effective and the viggen can't take more that one type of munition

In this timeline the Georgian air force happens to own a few Viggens, 1 is known to be stationed at Kutaisi.

*no weapon restriction on it unless there is something that can be fired well beyond visual range or is a WMD like the 105 I should know about*

    Situation

Over the past 3 months tensions between Russia and Georgia have reignited. A series of attacks of unknown origin took place on the Russia Georgian border.

Shortly after a build up of Russian aircraft was detected along the border region and intercepted Russian communications revealed a plan to attack so called “terrorist strongholds” in Georgia.

The United States of America decided to send a squadron of various aircraft to assist Georgian forces in the defence of their airspace. The American squadron is stationed at Kutaisi with a squadron of Georgian Frogfoots.

On the 19th of May the Russian air force conducted strikes on targets within Georgia. Due to the American presence at Kutaisi steps were made to ensure the security of forces while on the ground and a Patriot system was set up. 2 of 6 Su-34’s detected in Georgian airspace were shot down.

A swift response is needed and a plan has been drawn up to strike the forces responsible for the attack. On the morning of the 21st a joint strike force will take off from Kutaisi and conduct a precision strike on Nalchik, a Russian airfield that's being used as a staging ground for incursions into Georgian airspace.

    Mission

Destroy the Su-34’s that took part in the attacks on the 19th with as little collateral damage as possible.

    Flight plan

We will be keeping to a flight area on a pre planned route. You may leave this area when in combat with air or ground forces, with a swift return to the area once combat is complete.

(The following is subject to change based on threats we encounter)

    • Take off and fly to Waypoint 2 in as close a formation as we can safely manage.
    • From Waypoint 2 CAP flights will separate from the strike package and take the lead as we cross the Russian border.
    • Once at Waypoint 3 the Strike package will hold in an orbit while SEAD flights push to Waypoint 4 and disable enemy SAM site(s) Once SEAD mission is complete SEAD flights will return to Waypoint 3 and hold in an orbit.
    • With SAM threats neutralised the Strike package will commence its run as SEAD flights return to waypoint 3.
    • Once all strikes are complete all forces will regroup at waypoint 3 and return to base (Waypoint 1) in formation.
    • CSAR will operate from a temporary FARP recovering any pilot that is shot down or crashes.
