Today a lot of us for sure recieved the same email as me: Security update from BIS. In this email they explain that the database of their forum (and maybe more?) got hacked and stolen.
 
Meaning that now some hacker out there has a full list of names, emails & encrypted passwords of all members from the BIS forum. Many of you will now say, who cares, my password is strong & complicated, and BIS saved them encrypted, so noone can read or use this password. WRONG!
 
With a weak encryption scheme it is even possible to use your password on a other website that uses the same scheme, without ever having to decrypt your password. (likelihood this will happen is small though)
 
So in this news-post i want to bring your attention to the following items:
- What you should do
- Why I am posting this here too
- What normally happens to such lists and how likely it is your password will be hacked
 
 
What you should do:
Obviously change all accounts that had the same password
 
Why I am posting this here too:
Ahoy didnt got hacked, so surly i don't need to change anything here right ?? WRONG: With the BIS password some hacker might get access to, lets say your skydrive, where you just happen to have stored a document with the password you used on AW. Or this hacker get enough private details about you to guess your password here is the name of yout cat....
 
So do change your AW forums password, especially when it is the same as the BIS studio password !!! AND DO IT NOW! Even if it is totally different it will be good to do this every month or so.
 
 
 
 
 
The following is informational guess-work based on inside knowledge, and the result of watching many DEFCON videos. The below is not 100% how it will go, but the probability that it will go exactly like below scetched scenario is however apperant. The below is a proper example how in a average situation will explain how important it is to change all your passwords that are the same as the stolen one. Also the below is not to make you scared, however change those passwords scotty !!!
 
(Worst case scenario being that the hackers get access to something like paypal or ebay accounts, or even access your cloud where you maybe store your online banking details ?? )
 
What normally happens to such lists and how likely it is your password will be hacked:
Some background information on what normally happens with such lists, where they go and how they get distributed, and finally how likely it is that the encription will be broken, and other people will get your password, and eventually controll over your details and accounts.
 
Who does such hacks ?
- Nowadays most hackers that are after such databases are (semi)professional, commercial driven hackers (the worst kind)
 
What will they do now:
This BIS-list is now marked as 'zero day' and more often then not will be offered to be sold to: Organized crime like maffia (yes i am serious here), assorted scamming groups, dodgy advertising compagnies (that will sell it on to the competition of BIS, or anyone else with intrest). It is also normal such list to be sold multiple times, and also after changing hands once, to be sold onward to 3th 4th and 5th parties. Price of the list going down every day it gets older and changes hands more often.
 
Then what:
So the first one or two weeks or so, this list is owned by many people already, all with commercial intrest. They will have professinal equipment and knowledge to hack the passwords (even when salted etc) and in the first 12 hours roughly 30% of the list will be unencrypted !!!! And remember these people payed money for this information and thus WILL use it to try earn their investment back.
 
Going public:
Normally after a week or 2 the first copy of the list will be distributed in the hacker forums (they keep copies of such lists everywhere) And this is where all the amateur and hobbyists will have a go at hacking the list. They might or might not use this information, however are not less dangerous. Since they are the hobbyists they have all the time in the world to play around, and to be creative about what they will do with this information. These are the people that will take the time to find out if your email adress was also used for registering on forums, or facebook, and that will try if the password still works...
 
Probability your password will be eventually hacked:
I would say is around 95% sure. So really, go change your passwords..... !!!!!

Whats good guys, I love playing Invade & Annex on Ahoyworld with you fine people here in this awesome community, you would know me by Wraith on the servers if we ever played together. Sitting here in my Statisics night class really wishing I could be slinging virtual lead with all my fellow Armaholics right now. I have been filming with FRAPS on AHOY and filmed 60gb of 1080p Invade & Annex the other day and made some new friends, so I figured I would become part of this community, and hopefully I can help expand & improve it with my youtube channel, and missions I work on in the Editor.  I wish I could post an awesome video here for you all in this thread, of some awesome footage of a multitude of talented players, but I have not had the time to piece all those 30 second clips( there is a literall fuckton of them from Ahoy) into a edited movie file yet, but I promise as soon as it uploads I will post it here on these forums before doing anything else, even playing Arma/DayZ

Ive been playing arma pretty much since arma 1 came out. I think i got it maybe 2 months after it was released and ive been Hooked.
 
What Im Really Good At ( Ingame )
- Good with Communication And leadership.
- Great With Flying mainly because i have alloooootttt of practice in the editor and because i use a logitec G940 And TrackIR 5.  (But i will let you guys determine that 
- Im great with Medic/Heavy Machine Gunner (M249 Saw or in arma 3 the Mk 200)
 
What im Really good at out of game!
 
- Well i love working on websites, i have my own webhost that i use to just mess around with and practice, because i really have nobody that would want to hire a 17 year old to make/maintain a website lol.
- I love scripting, and im trying to teach myself on how to script in arma because ive been playing it for so long but never been able to contribute content and its something i would like to get in to.

I am a fan of playing arma as a simulator, so I enjoy playing in an organized fashion, and not dying. I am also an advanced rotary pilot, along with a basic fixed wing pilot.
 
The servers I currently enjoy playing are basically AW Invade + Annex US, and ACE in arma 2.

I'm sure quite a few of you know who I am but I suppose for those that don't know my name is obviously Tonic, I have created various popular tools and game modes for A2/A3 (A). I got here because I decided to try Invade & Annex out, must say I enjoyed it minus the super AI but minus that I enjoyed it so much I wanted to take a look under the hood and tinker with some things
 
I must say, it has a promising place within ARMA 3, will be a good replacement for the old Domination style game mode,I was asked to help out with creating some dialogs and I would like to take you guys up on the offer

Hello, I am CandorChampion. Found your servers while looking through Arma 3. Jumped in and had a blast.
 
I'm 21 years old, currently living in a small town in Texas. 
 
I don't really do anything for right now besides play video games. I am in the process of enlisting in the USAF as security forces. 
 
Been playing Arma since Arma 2 came out. But I used to play OFP on PC when it came out.
 
Ingame, I am best as a fixed wing pilot or infantry. I can fly helos. But out of practice after leaving my last clan, United BattleGuns (UBG).
As an infantryman, I am best suited with GL's and demolitions.
 
In Realitiy (Such a terrible thing. I know.) 
I am a moderately successful digital artist. I mostly draw anthro furs and on occasion MLP style equines.
I regularly practice with firearms. Both rifle and pistol. Just to shoot mostly and practice for life in the military.
I'm usually on IRC servers just chatting with people and sometimes build and program computers. Don't know too much about scripting. But I want to learn one day.

Hey there everyone, MrFistoflames here and I'm new to this!
 
I was recommended by a friend to come get myself on here to talk to all the wonderful people, and as such, I did. I am pretty big on gaming and with the ending of my first lot of exams I am now free to play a lot more! (hurrah for freedom) I am pretty big into minecraft and have been for sometime now, but I also love several nintendo games, shooters sometimes and definitely a good horror when I can get my hands on one.
 
I am currently in college doing my A-level exams and game whenever I get the chance to, it would be wonderful to hopefully see some of you in game as I am currently hiding from the British sun that has suddenly appeared

Name's Sean. Leatherneck is my name when I play on the US Arma 3 server. I was told about this community from another member and friend named Jester who is one of the admins. I've only been playing on the server for a few days now but so far its been pretty awesome. Lots of friendly people and the admins are the best I've seen. Things about me:I enjoy long romantic walks on the beach while naked, I Hate mustard, I love peanut butter and honey sandwiches, Active Duty Marine, Alcoholic, chain smoker, Former admin to a couple other servers, Love Death metal, The Lakers suck and I like boobs. I was talking with Danne and played with some cool guys on the server (all was well until LUMBERJACK hit a tree )  Cool server.

Recently got the game when mentioned by a friend, I like it so far. The server is great also- a lot of fun! Only thing annoying is hackers/team killers but hey.. can't get them all. I was never that great in the game because I mainly played DayZ in Arma 2, and that was shortlived also.. I'm looking forward to learning more and be more useful.

Hi! I'm Liz, or Lizminite and i guess i may have been noticed as a new fixture in the minecraft server :3 But i've just signed up to Ahoy world and i am a little shy, but i am sure i will open up at some point. I am the charming girlfriend of sir Proxima, who many of you will know, and he is the one who suggested i play here.
So i love video games, mainly i am an avid player of pokemon and minecraft, but i love RPG games and am always up for a good MMORPG. I also love shooter games, fighting games, i loooove the binding of Isaac. I love jump scare games, but don't really play them much due to the amount of noise i generate ;3 In general, i am up for playing any game, it is rare to find a game that i do not like, i usually just haven't tried it out.
I love manga, i love drawing, anime and i am a lover of good music (is there anything this chick doesn't like!!?!) Right now i am studying my A levels in: Physics, ICT, Religious Studies and Politics Studies and i have a part time job in a lovely supermarket called Waitrose, i enjoy it a lot.
I look forward to making lots of new friends and deafening you all if you play games with me! <3

I have a crazy idea: A new score-system where only your squad gets points. If you or one of your squadmates makes a kill or blow up a target structure, the squad gets a point. If you or one of your squadmates gets shot and choses to respawn, the squad looses a point. If the medic revives no point is lost.
 
 
The individual score-system might make new players focus only on their own score.
 
Squad-points forces the team to stick together to be successfull on the scoreboard. It also reflects the Ahoy community's desire for teamplay.
 
 
And about pilots. 3 choppers are enough in my opinion. But that requires pilots that are at least average in skill. The lines of people getting stuck waiting for transport can quickly pile up, if two of the pilots don't know how to do their job.

Yea I am noticing a LOT of people relying on the "drag me so I can spawn" glitch. I warn people not to do it, but minutes laters I still hear... "Hit space while I am dragging you to get up!"
 
The worst part of this is, I will be like 40m away running to get them up and they still do it. I can't wait until this is fixed.
 
As for the transport, Yea on the US server I notice what you are saying a lot. I have also noticed that a lot of the US players can't seem to fly as well as our EU friends. Not saying we don't have any good pilots from the US, just that we have MORE that CANT fly straight lol.

Well I thought I had better signup after using the wonderful Arma 3 server for the last few months.

At the moment I'm not using TS as I have no mic. The benefit is, you then won't have to listen to me swearing at the screen or banging my head against the wall, each time I get shot.
