A Unit generally is a group of like minded individuals that like to either fully simulate or partly simmulate (millsim/realism) a regiment/division in Arma 3. This can include calling people by rank or even ''saluting'' in order to enhance the immersion for the players. Those are just two from the top of my head. Usually this has a core setup of players, which is usually  the infantry but most of the cases it has alot of extra attachments around it, such as a Air wing or Armored platoons. And yes there are casual communitys that call themselves ''unit`s'' but imo they are not. They are just a community, which can be great fun too. Dont get me wrong!

Generally speaking, CO-OP is the way to go when talking about Arma units. . Just as we have sporadic gamenights, units have sporadic TvT nights (from my own experience).
I hope this helps. If you want to see a list of units to get an idea of how they do things check the official site from arma 3 units here:

Pistolfreak,  TvT is not something you should expect in an arma unit.  It's usually only on occasions where Arma units play a bit of TvT.
When it comes to the flying,  your 2 steps ahead of the entire unit.  From what I understood of the guys in charge is that we are focusing on the  infantry part first.  Before that's all set up we are a long Way underway.

Imo: What Razor said: you also need extra armament.  I personally think afm is cool,  but that is more something for a more veteran unit.  But then again,  that is my opinion.

Dude no offence but the concurrency needed for AFM on different airframes does not justify it  and there is nothing to be gained. Also its not exactly doable with mouse and keyboard. people struggle with advanced flight stuff even with the simple model. Just look how many pilots are comfortable landing inside a tight compound.
As for pilots having to think their moves , they already have to , your just increasing their workload without a copilot ,and they still have to jugle potential incoming fire etc. Even Shacktac said no to the AFM.

Let's see if this satifys my lust for shouty officers and realistic scenarios.

Just saying but when on earth did we get 80 people that play EU3.
At least half of them vote must be from eu1/eu2 people that most likely never touched EU3.

Direct voice is what I ment. Sorry for the confusion.
Of course both tfar and acre have it. Personally I think the acre direct voice is a wee bit better.

The same thing you said about medical is true for radios (TFAR and ACRE): you get a radio, open it's interface, select a channel (either by inputting it yourself or selecting the right channel), and you can talk. All the advanced stuff comes, like with the medical system, by using it. Oh and about terrain interception, as a new play I don't think you'll be more then 300m away from your team anyways.

I wasn't really giving an argument against TFAR here, more trying to stop the thing about EU3 not being realistic and ACRE being way more difficult to use.

You'll have your point though that ACRE can be annoying sometimes, one can only hope that will be fixed in the next version.

My personal Opinion of ACRE may be outdated, but when I last played with it, you had to switch radio rather than TFAR's, a different button for each type of radio approach. This often, especially as a squad lead, had me broadcasting on a channel, or in fact, unsure if I was broadcasting at all, I never had this issue with TFAR.

Personally the ability to enter a frequency was an uncomplicated procedure, and gave more freedom to the leading parties to split squads down further in cases of low numbers. There was also the incredibly easy splitting of squads further for example,

Alpha: 200 (Squad lead, Medic and Teamleads)
    A1 : 201 (A1 Team)
    A2 : 202 (A2 Team)

This system allowed for radio chatter on a fire-team level, without compromising the entire squads ability to operate efficiently. Now I don't care if that was unrealistic because it worked well with or playerbase, and if the squad or teamleads didn't feel comfortable with using it they diddn't have to. TFAR, has always been to me, a simpler but more free system than ACRE, and as I said before, especially with the release of the Milsim group, the need for absolute realism on EU#3 is just not there.

The way gauntlet is set up, operations across an entire map, with varied amounts of people, never the same resources (Aircraft, Vehicles Etc) does NOT suit being unable to contact somone who is less than a K away over a hill, hell Squad leads and Teamleads need to keep in contact for much larger distances if we are to keep the game fun and interesting for everyone.

Another guy from TF(A)R camp here. Please note that in this post I discuss about this topic in a respective manner towards everyone and try to point out few things that seem to have worried, or worse, maybe even scared some of players. I do not mean to post this writing as an attemption trying to advise anyone in anything nor set the current procedures in a bad light, know it!

I joined this gaming group last week and since then I've had several issues with ACRE and I've heard people swear around because of mystic errors in radio system's general functionality, without having environment based issues when in communications; I've had stuttering with a guy next to me, people have said that my voice in radio has been rubbish, mystic in-the-middle-of-a-game-pipe-errors etc. In addition to that the sound quality in ACRE is generally lower when compared to TFR. With this exact same system I've played with you guys, I've never had a problem with TFR.

    Few thoughts I want to share with everyone without getting a single penny;

Many have pointed out that on acre you simply choose a channel you need to go and stated the fact that you need to configure TFR's rifleman radios with mDagrs.

    Point of view 1
Do the field ppl really have to have the rifleman versions of radio? In the group I've been playing for half a year, everyone's got a personal radio (the green Happis like, range in good conditions around 5-10km) if it's not against the idea of the mission (such in Vietnam missions, where nobody else than the squad leader have a long range (backpack one) radio).  Why is this?

In the group I've played most with, the Happis one (or similar) is used as the ''SR one of the radios'', it's just the habit. One of best sides of TFR: You can have an additional channel in one radio, which makes you able to communicate via two separate channels with one radio (two separate tangents). With my finnish team this is taken as an advantage: Every single one in teams is having a predefined channel in use for the TEAM communications and leaders can have an additional channel for command net (exactly the same deal as with two radios right now, but with one radio).

    Point of view 2

It would seem that some are worried that TFR involves a lot of frequency hazzle.

Worried and a very, possible statement: '' TFR.... It's purely based on manually putting in frequencies everytime you die or join the game. I don't ever want to have monkey business with a frequency fool.''

    - Negative. When correctly set, you don't even have to touch the frequencies as a man standing in the line. On TFR radios' frequencies can be predefined for every mission for every faction, and the channel frequencies are set correctly when the mission starts. Just get to the correct channel by pressing numpad key of your channel.

As an example of game starting and team / squad members having ''Happis''

Team / squad members' actions needed to be on team's net after (re)spawn, and without opening the radio UI.

*Press numpad [channel number defined for your team's net ]* -> *Optionally set stereo setting [CTRL+ arrow]* -> you're good to go.  No need to hazzle with frequencies.

Squad leader's actions needed to be on the command net (squad leaders and higher ranked, net where squad leaders get the orders such as initiate a commands) AND team's net:

    1. Setting additional channel:
*Open radio UI* -> *press [numpad number of channel supposed to have as additional channel]* -> *press radio UI button that has tooltip ''set as additional''* ->*Set optional stereo setting [CTRL+arrow]*

    2. Setting main channel:

*press numpad [number of the channel intended to have as main channel]* -> *Set optional stereo setting [CTRL+arrow]*       -> Good to go again. No need to hazzle with frequencies.

I'd like to hear your thoughts, my mates, about this (yeah, this is a neutral suggestion, I wish that everyone would take a look at this, even from the opposite point of view) :  Advantages of this kind of setup are vast, such as getting information, threat announcements between the team members or commands from leader to everyone meant to hear it a lot faster. How would this exactly solve the net a bit?
By team's having own channel which would  only be for communication between team and the leader. This would remove ALL info traffic, high commands, traffic between leaders and assets from normal riflemens'  and team workers' radios. The chit chat of course is only in 3d speech when rock's not hitting the fan. Commands and infos would be read loud and clear for every team member. I have to admit, that I myself have had several issues when learning to understand comms, with one radio having both, team based and squad based traffic, and another radio between leaders and assets.  Team / Squad leaders could easily add the command net as an additional channel. Each channel can (naturally) be set a stereo setting of your wish, such as like team net on left ear, and command net on right ear, and you'd even have separate tangents for those nets (CAPS, T). The backpack radio wouldn't most likely be needed, since the personal radio models of TFR have at least good range as the 152's there are on the field at the moment. For those who still need to have a longer range, there's the backpack model, which can be integrated to specific vehicles ( such as choppers, armor, planes etc.).

If that sounds even a little inconvenient, the TFR is still easy to use for comms in the very same system of channels, as at the moment Please do doubt me if any reason given. Official apologies for a little messy post, I'm writing this in a hurry. See you all in the field!

    Greetings from Finland, everyone!

Thank you for the staff for a great chance to join such a pleasant gaming community, your work is appreciated!

I've been playing on EU1 & 2 servers for a while but I wanted to get a bit deeper than that, therefore I ended up to EU3, of which I am glad. The game has been quite a good buddy to me for six months now. I've got a lot from a finnish gaming group I still play with (Arma Finland, and I this is not advertising it, thought it might ring some bells for some of you), but I need an another group to play in english with. The immersion and humour just punches a lot better to me in that way.

I haven't been a lot on the field as a foot mobile in Arma 3; I've been a pilot in the gaming community, and I aim to be one here oneday (staff may poke me anytime [please] anywhere to put me on a driving test: choose me a chopper, load and the location and I'll fire the machine up. In God I trust advanced flight model and [and Valmet, Aaand Sako aaaan Lapua etc.). For those who just had the warning bells ringing after hearing me not having been on the ground a lot: Basic infantry habits and procedures I've got in Finnish Defence Forces during a one year training. I got trained as a coastal jaeger but due to my civil career I was pulled away from the field to Finnish Navy Band in which I served the rest of the service. Later I began to miss the military life but a wifey-kind and the career didn't allow me that anymore, so Arma offered me a chance of having some fun, thanks to Steam Christmas sales.

As a short description of myself, I count myself as a fair, brotherly mate aiding you in any way I can when you ask, and watching your back. By humour.. well, I'm a bit sarcastic and I'd count myself as a relaxed dude. If there's something I hate, it is injustice. There's absolutely no problem I see in standing in the line and following the chain of command and gaming rules and I'm not here for chest candies. Sometimes I may have issues understanding lazily pronounced sentences through a bit messy radio, but it's not that I'd be that stereotypical, introvert finnish guy! ;o I swear on my crappy car I buy with a loan I don't have yet, that if I ever sound unkind without you putting a niner mike-mike on my back, it's just propably a sarcastic joke that didn't work at all. That's me being the introvert finnish guy

If you see me idling in TS, please come have a chit chat and see you on the servers!

           Pistolfreak over and out.
