Mod Request: Advanced Towing and Sling Loading

Question

I would think these mods could be a nice addition to both EU1 and EU2. We could use this mod to tug damaged vehicles, vehicle debris, planes, and helicopters. We can use hunters/hemtt to tow helis from hangars or jets. The sling loading can help transport supplies and vehicles to the ao. Possibly the players can designate a FOB/LZ to bring the supplies to.

The Helis can already sling some light vehicles, which is fine.

 

Same, I was sort of on the edge of whether including the sling because it is sort of pointless.

I also talked to the mod maker and he said that in the next update the option to choose between attaching ropes to the back or front of a vehicle will be available.

This is a edit of the one I put in the ArmA section. Didn't know whether to put it here or there. Basically I think it would be a very nice addition to EU1 and EU2. We can now put the buzzard back in its hangar when done. We can also use hunters and hemtts to tow helicopters and jets out of their hangars into the runway. We can also use towing to rescue a damage vehicle like a medical hemtt and bring it to a repair station. This can also clear vehicle debris.

I don't see this needed, yes sure you can put the buzzard back in the hangar, or tow damaged vehicles, but from what ive seen vehicles rather blow up than get damaged and then we still have (or atleast should have) the repair specialist, whose role it is to fix things so they can move. This script would probably give the barely needed repair specialist even less to do and i personally wouldnt add it to just move a jet back into a hangar.

I dont know if thats possible, but what i can see it being used for is, if people crash their heli at the helipads in a bad position, where it needs to be moved in order to be repaired without loosing the main rotor (i.e.) again. And then again, i believe this can also be done with other scripts.

 

Also, does it work without problems in MP? does it affect the server stability? any dsync issues?

Doesn't seem to me like something that'd be client-side only, but it might actually be useful on #3. We tend to break things. I wonder what the limits of this would be as well, i.e. could I use a Chinook to lift a boat towing a boat? Maybe I'll experiment.

I actually tried to lift a Hemtt that was towing a hunter with a Huron.  The ropes between the Hemtt and the Hunter just disappeared. The towing mod/sling is also server side.

Hey guys,

 

Has anyone used it in busy MP session yet?

 

Reviewed the code and looks fine, just skeptical about how smooth it will appear in MP, due to interacting with remote vehicles/network traffic. Am interested in seeing a clip of the towing in action on busy MP server.

 

Also of course its misuse/abuse has to be factored, re trolling/griefing

Hey guys, just wanted to add a few comments about my sling loading / towing mods.

 

While the addons only need to be installed on the server, the code executes client side. The player that's doing the towing is the one that's running the script to simulate the towing. There are a few exceptions to that rule, but for the most part it's client side only.

 

From the perspective of the playing doing the towing, the vehicle in most cases will move smoothly. However, you'll notice if you try this on MP that everyone else sees the towed vehicle as slightly jumpy. I've used this on a few MP servers without seeing any impacts to overall server performance.

 

Also, the issue where vehicles blow up when towed over bridges has been fixed in the latest version.

 

If you try to sling load a vehicle that's towing a vehicle it's going to snap the ropes. That's what happening when the ropes "disappear".
