  1. 6:06, thanks for cataloguing my death buddy! I'd say welcome, but clearly you already know who I am!

P.S. CSAT are employing more ninja rocks to their ranks, be careful when driving B)

    P.S.S. Sev is still S.O.S. ;)

  2. Alright, throwing my helmet into the ring to try to help formulate a possible compromise to Ahoyworld's open community and a few concerns talked about by the players.

What if we added a 6th pilot slot but reserved it for a whitelist? Something like this doesn't take away from anyone within the community because it's merely an additional slot for the TRUSTED and WELL RESPECTED pilots to take. I understand that some of the best pilots are not on the forums nor on TS but if you could just get a list of players who are known good pilots (I can think of 5 of them on the top of my head) and reserve a pilot slot for them in the emergency of the pilots are derping out and getting the ground troops killed left and right, this could be a possible solution that could potentially work based on what I have just read.

The idea can be taken further, but only if it is considered. And to be honest I'd rather see the time spent implementing a possible solution to this rather be spent on I & A 3, but that's all my opinion.

Also, just a thought, but driving isn't really that bad! ^_^

Looking forward to reading the replies, stay alive everyone! B)

  3. If in doubt apply common sense. If I bring APC/MBT to side mission and other squad gets flown in, I will kill all the vehicles and leave infantry for them to engage and provide support fire if requested. If it is primary target mission then I won't hold back and wipe it out as soon as I can.

If I would want to drive everywhere alone and shoot AI, then I would be playing singleplayer missions and not coop multiplayer.

Agreed. Though Scar, I have seen you solo missions by yourself (such as side ones, and the rewards are ohh so sweet), I don't see a problem with this. Other people on the server are generally doing the main AO or a Zeus op, leaving you all by yourself. If a squad does fly in, sure, leave them a bit of a challenge, but if you're already there for a good 10 minutes and THEN people start saying they're going to come to the side, then yell at you for doing the side op, you should not care. Side ops respawn infinitely, and everyone can play together. It's common sense.

Keep doing what you're doing. I tend to do the same thing in all honesty, but maybe try to be inclusive of one or two people? I dunno, you do you mate! B)

  4. I've only been here a week but yesterday was my first taste of some Z v P gameplay both on EU 1 and 2, and compared to the other general I and A I found it a more unique approach that I and A doesn’t offer with its missions, such as more chopper insertion usage and buildings with full garrisons and proper positioning of statics and so on. Heck there have been times where I go through an A and I mission but there was clearly a Zeus editing the OPFOR team because of how much more organized the opposition was. For casual and squad ops alike, I felt that it could be more enjoyable for most people (me and everyone else in the TS channel), and hope to see more of it in the future, but…

Can you be a bit clearer on what you mean by "zeus mission" do you mean a stop of the usual take (certain part of map) i&a where a game master takes on a different approach?
Many times adding an element that is unexpected to the existing mission is done and may be subtle enough to change gameplay slightly.
In any case the issue with zeus missions boils down to several things. Abuse, misuse and taking away from what people expect.
I'll deal with the latter first we noticed a distinct drop off in numbers when zeus missions were running on our main server (upto 25% fewer players) when zeus missions were being run instead of I&A. People do expect I&A and we need to cater to them.
Abuse, with great power come etc etc you know the rest of the saying we've given zeus powers to many people and been immediately forced to reverse the decision spamming in units or fire support with no regard to the immersion, no sense of subtlety and no appreciation for the fact that server performance is not limited to just one instance of arma 3 running on our box. We've had to remove zeus powers from many people due to their misuse of zeus gifting themselves or others vehicles, container jenga, or general disregard for server performance.
That said yes a zeus mission can be an awesome way to augment the running mission and while I don't like to suspend the running mission I do feel zeus enables opportunities to add to the existing framework massively. But that's just hope I like to use zeus others may use it differently.

It’s reasons like this that you cannot have Zeus open to the general public openly on a server. It’ll just promote chaos because you’re practically giving everyone administrative rights to the server in terms of spawning and killing, as well as the ability to  crash the server by overload, so it’s understandable how Spartans and above only are able to Zeus because they are trustable members in the community who have proven trustworthy. It’s a good compromise, but I agree with OP that Zeus missions can be a good way to increase the variability on the EU servers. Take Leutin’s game night for example on EU 4. What if you opened EU 4 up more often with only custom Zeus missions made only when someone who is a Zeus feels like activating it. Zeuses can focus on missions that go above and beyond the scope of I and A (defensive operations, HVT guarding, convoy offensives and defenses, HVT assassinations, Vehicle hunts, etc.), each op having specific rules and guidelines and it can be a little more organized like how game nights are and have a little more structure like EU 3 is.

TL;DR: I strongly agree that we need more Zeus missions, but its up to the AhoyWorld staff on how far they want to take it. There are multiple options, but it’s ultimately up to them! Thanks for reading! B)

  5. Did a few ops with Jester814 way back when, followed his videos ever since. A few months ago he did the merger with Luetin Zeusing, then I started watching Lt's videos, and now that my college semester is ending I thought I'd give this place ago, and I'm loving it for the most part! It's a great blend of both being casual in Arma or being Mill Sim in EU #3   B)

  6. I was just wondering, outside of setting up events through Ahoyworld, could someone other than a staff member utilize Zeus on EU 1 and 2? If so, how would they do that, and if not, is there a way for someone to receive such a privilege? I'm just curious as an old Zeus that wishes to both hone my skills and create some fun missions for the entire community to enjoy. Thanks for reading and any replies! B)

  7. If you tk for reasons like self defense you run the risk of getting banned yourself. Picture this I'm told there's tking going on in eu1 I hop on announce that tking is not allowed. Then I see that someone has just tked again it may be for "self defense" but our rules could not be clearer that person may very well end up with a ban.

I would at least hope you ask what's going on before you take any action. 9/10 times it will just be some idiot tking but that 1/10 is the people who are trying to defend themselves.

Uhm ... so i better not voice my opinion on this - by now most are aware of how i deal with such situations - which is getting a admin to deal with it shortly.

But on the other hand,if you dont get hold of a admin quickly you could use the "report" feature to get the case reviewed, meanwhile the "offender" rampages on and you have to take the beatings ... OR ...

Let me tell you the tale of yesterdays and todays events i witnessed/was part of :

I played early and got me hands on a T100 i used for several AO´s and sides as usual,so no big thing there and i dont even recall anymore how the story really started but this guy (which name(s) i wont mention here,as MK already dealt with it today - cheers again ;) ) parked nxt to me and another guy that was with me in the T100 and drove it off our established VAS pos in base in order to fkk us up in our ride.

Which didnt really go down that easily as we managed to reflipp the tank and this very guy then tried to use a Mora to fire and destroy the T100 i was using as he couldnt get it ...

I parked then outside base watchign his moves and telling him in chat that this wouldnt go down like he expected and trying to get him settled - but to no luck.

I couldnt get hold of a admin at this early time, took some evidence screens, told an AHOY member on my friends list what happend and then took the kill shot.

    3 times.

    As he would not stop.

Today, early morning again,i joined this guy was pilot.

So,i took it no harm from him today,he learned his lesson ... i assumed.

About 1h later i was helping a guy refueling the Cheetah on the service pad when i got rammed by a bobcat, driven by this very guy under different nickname (suspected this already) - he managed to flip a Slammer a guy used, killed me,then disconnected.

About an hour later i was asking Luft if he can get hold of an admin and 2min later MK dealt with the situation.

This isnt exactly how the whole story went, but it gives you an idea of (at times) self-defence (to an extend) could/should be tolerated.

I m fully aware of the rules and i (admit) bending/breaking the rules on (certain) times ... and i m totally fine receiving a ban having done so - rules are there to obey and are NOT arguable at all, still - from various years in the MP buisness in ARMA (before and after) i will execute my rule of preventing me/my team/my equipment from being harmed by retards.

// disclaimer >  own opinion - do not take advise, you ve been warned //

    FINAL POINTS :

What would of prevented this from happening :

    - i could of reported the incident yesterday myself via the report feature

    - i could of joined TS in the evenings to make a admin aware of the incident

    SUMMARUM :

    - justice wheels work slow at times, but they work

    - dont get to attached to your gear

    - you will die (sooner or later anyway ingame)

    - enjoy the game

    Sincerly yours

This is exactly what I am talking about, though in your situation it seems alright. I would assume I'll just hope on TS and bug an admin for the quickest response. I'm not too great at taking screenshots of such incidents, my trigger finger is too fast, but if I see a streak like I did yesterday I'll be sure to make the proper documentation. Thanks for the clarifications everyone!

  8. This is a bit of a late post (sorry, i'm a little new to this community!) but I just wanted to implement my two Ahoycoins into this discussion based on my own experience making and playing Zeus missions for Arma ops in the past.

Luetin, normally ambushes can be done in a multitude of ways, but your operations are a special circumstance based on the fact that you livestream them, so ambushes usually get ruined by stream snipers. I see that you've suggested literally dropping units in on squads, and I have something to add into that concept. A year ago I was addressed with a similar problem with a Zeus who wanted to stream the mission, but didn't want the suprises to be ruined. So we spent the day beforehand planning the operation as the game master and moderator and saved the entire operation via ARES's save system, which gave us an idea. Spend some time before you start the stream planning out your ambush, from loadout to positions, then save it, copy and paste the code in a notepad, then when the time is right, load the code into the game when you want the ambush occurs. This allows not only that suprise factor to happen, but if done at the correct time you will catch those pesky stream snipers off guard, and it will be extremely beleivable based on unit placement and loadout (ghili suits, behind bushes, etc.) and it just takes a good 4-16 units, depending on the amount of players that triggur the ambush to create a large enough obstacle for units to cross. I've had a Zeus operation of 56 players get spooked and freak out when I had a simple, well placed fireteam ambush the entire group from a hill top, and they ended up playing the entire rest of the game extremely cautious to the point where it dragged the game an hour longer than I expected, giving me more time to make small tweaks to the OPFOR force and make the operation more enjoyable for everyone.

These "spawn" ambushes work the best in ghilis outside or garrisons in bulidings. My advice with buildings though is that do not auto garrison them and save with ARES, because ARES doesn't save garrisons in the save code, so manual placement is required. It's also entirely possible to do ambushes with a vehicle or two, just to spice things up, and possible turn the ambush into a NATO meatgrinder if people are just charging an operation head on.

That's just my two ahoycoins from my previous experiences. I can write up more if you wish, because there are plenty of ambush stratagies that can be used. My favorite is the simple "that covered transport has no driver and looks empty and derelict, but when you get close the Zeus hits G and a wild squad of CSAT appear!" ambush, but there are a surprisingly large number of ways you can approach this topic.

On a final note, I just wanted to make a small recommendation to one of your Zeus tactics regarding artillery. First off, I think you're great with it, and if people are bunched up like retards in a warzone, its their fault (you even give them a warning shot! Most Zeuses aren't so nice!) but in my Milsim days you generally had some sort of spotter for the artillery. Now I get that some open hilltops and specific key areas will be already "fire on sight" but you have a few videos where you seem to fire the artillery randomly, moving the blast area to troops even when you don't have a reason to other than to startle them. But any other reason (a squad engagement and CSAT calls artillery, some idiot has their IR pointer on in a night op and its within viewing distance of some CSAT, a vehicle detects an aircraft dropping in troops) is a valid reason to shell a motor  or howitzer shot at BLUEFOR. Other than this, I think you're a great Zeus!

I look forward to finally running one of your ops this Friday!

  9. In the MillSim experience I have had, TWS and the Nightstalker Optics were limited to squad leaders (or the command team), marksmen, and spotters. This allowed for those who needed thermals to view enemy positions and designate targets with ease to call them out for targets or use thermal for deadly precision in sniping. Everyone else usually got the RCO. I completely understand why these optics are unavailable for the general public but I think they should be allowed for the sniper teams. It makes Overwatch much easier. But in the end, it's the admin's call, this is just my two cents from my experiences. Game on B)

  10. I was hoping I never had to ask this question, but after three separate friendly fire incidents (two of which I ended up having to kill a teammate in either self defense or the defense of others) and I just wanted to know what to do with these insubordinates if no administrator is either available or competent enough to deal with the situation. Thanks in advance! B)

  11. That just happened today to a group I was with on EU 1...we had a 9 man fireteam, landed at the objective and took hard cover as a T-100 came at us and started to supress our position. I asked who had the AT and the guy with the titan "could not find the target". The tank was 2oo meters directly north, on an open hill top, and you had three people yelling it via direct chat to the point of the AT guy firing randomly, wasting his ammo...

    Arma days...

  12. Welcome to the community!

We also have a little bit more strict and genuine fun modded server with a bit more teamwork going on than on the regular ones. You should check that out some time aswell.

    Luetin also did a

on it; but it's a bit outdated right know seeing we sadly had so see some people go and other great people joined and of course the mods got changed around a bit.

I look forward to checking that out in about a week after I get out of college, thanks for the intel!

  13. Yea, that was corny.

I've been playing Arma since the whole DayZ crazy began with arma 2 back in early 2012 because a lot of my friends kept pestering me to join them. After that whole mess  concluded I started exploring other aspects of Arma and ended up joining two MilSim realism units around late 2012 and worked multiple different roles depending on where and what was assigned and available. I left all of that behind in mid 2015 to focus purely on personal issues with college and family and see myself finally having a large break despite my irl duties for the summer. I've been stranded from my two other realism groups (one had so many people join the USA military that is disbanded, the other was not accepting anyone because they were overbooked) so through considering other options that I had stumbled across I have ended up here, and i'm not disappointed at all. I look forward to serving alongside everyone here in combat, and getting through every operation.

I prefer to play Arma as realistic as possible, but don't mind a bit of more casual play here and there. I specialize in recon duty with scouting targets while not being seen and being a Zeus with the ARES war mod, trying my best to make missions that go above and beyond simple offensive and defensive operations.

Personal thanks for luetin09 for doing that merger video with Jester814, otherwise I would have never found this great place! I also look forward to operating in some of luetin09's missions, from what I have seen he's a great Zeus!

See you all on the field
