Logistics clarification.

Recommended Posts

Ok, so after the implementation of Logistics, I've been getting a lot of mixed messages about what they should be doing and how.

Given these mixed messages, I'd like to ask for clarification on a few questions, as follow.

--------------------------------------------------

Does the Logistics Pilot count toward the 8-pilots-per-player rule?

Is the Logistics Pilot allowed to operate aircraft other than the MH-60 Medevac?

Is the Logistics Pilot allowed to function like Vortex for the insertion of troops?

Should the Logistics Squad stay behind in safety, or are they allowed to join the battle proper?

Is it acceptable to set up an FOB inside the objective zone?

Yes please someone clarify this because when I asked around I was getting contradicting answers. The role for Logistics is not specified clearly so the pilots who play it are confused on what to do. As for the pilot slot I am also confused as logi as a group is a 4 man team which is pretty useless. It takes away roles that could be filled in elsewhere.

8person rule applies, Logi is Angel with two engineers added, Logi is never needed untill you surpass a certain point in player count.

Medevac and other sling able choppers so long as your not taking away the transport capability of Vortex.

If players can hike from the supply point yes, but just as a transport chopper no, logi is for supplies and casevac first and foremost.

Logistics are a 2. line unit, they are not meant to see action, they will see action when doing FOB\Supply points cause of the ambient AI, but they shouldnt be fielded in AOs as a main attack force.

Yes\No, in the start of a AO you shouldnt creep in with a FOB as it might get taken out easily, this will leave forces without supplies. But at when the AOs edges are secured you can inch up the FOB.

@Christiansen thank you very much for clarification. I have yet to see the time of using Angel or Logi squad properly since we finish every AO under thirty minutes. Even if it prolongs and we have Logi or Angel on standby, by the time they organize themselves the assets in AO will be evacuated or reinforced by Talon or Vortex. And thanks again for the awesome experience with MHQ. It was my birthday for a moment.

Yeah, I'd expect that Logi will see more use on a map like Chernarus. Does anyone know if Logistics can resupply Hammer and Torch?

Might be interesting to try issuing Logi with some Mortars? Seems like something that could keep them occupied in their downtime after setting up the FOB.

@Amantes

No Logi squad can't resupply heavy armor vehicles. Even on Chernarus we won't use Logi squad properly. We will first die or Vortex or Talon pilots will bring supplies or just respawn (damn you non immersive players). Yesterday on that big barrel thing I've brought you maaw + rockets that you requested from SL. It was brought by littlebird together with SL. If there's restriction that only Logi squad can deliver that...

Like I've said in my letter status thread, I don't have to fire a single bullet. I'd love to resupply here and there and have small FOB or outpost near AO to greet assets with supply material, good chat and hot beverage, while my Logi pilot is bringing me fresh supplies all the time. On this server we are still in learning process how to use this. Yesterday was an issue during my stay on EU#3.

You were Vortex or Talon I can't say for sure, but only one of that slot was occupied. We were 3 man team in Logi (not full of four with MHQ and BH in air). You were in a little bird and Logi pilot took BH for transporting purposes. So I've tought you could stay in MH-6 and provide CAS support but also be in agreement with Logi pilot about that. The problem was there were no EV targets or CMD was not giving you any. That means Logi pilot actually hijacked your role. My medic was on the ground with assets for AO providing them medical treatment since I hadn't information where was their squad medic. After the AO completed, counterattack started. Everything went wrong then. BH shot down, Torch got blown up by 3 rpgs (he was escorting me to AO) troops scattered, MHQ in the middle of AO sorrounded by two BTRs and two squads. I can only be happy and thankful for ground AO assets that I've managed to return MHQ intact back to base in one piece after whole AO has finished.

I won't name any of the players since this is in general and I hope it won't happen again. We now have hard proof on the forums to remember us on our mistakes.

When I've first joined EU#3 only one guy used mortars. Now, that's not happening at all. If there should be restriction, like I've said before for HAT, MAT and other heavy equipment for not using 5 javelins on the AO (way more fatigue penalty) then Logi would have plenty of work supplying troops on the ground. Until that people will still carry javelins/maaws to wipe out whole AO or there will be one man twenty mag army. Even then one of the slots Torch or Hammer should go away. There is no enough targets for everybody to have fun.

That was probably me experimenting with how to properly use them in game play. Mortars can be very useful if used correctly. If you remove the artillery computer it instantly becomes less OP and calling in a strike close to players is a risk you should consider, killing friendlies or enemies becomes a matter of how detailed the gunner dials in the mortar.

Since there is no dedicated mortar squad and it was said that it's one of the tasks of the Logi squad I'd love to try and run a group some time to work with a mortar to take out hard targets.

Off-topic. Wow I didn't know that ACE's mortaring is so different from vanilla. Yes this can be accomplished very easily and quite interesting. Thx for share Rave. I was too lazy to try it myself. I even didn't know that you can zero mortar also with pg up and down. I feel ashamed. This is awesome. So - mortar team : three man team. Squadlead with receiving directions and providing all map information to gunner, gunner who adjusts and fires mortar, and mortar assistant who carries mk6 backpack or just chilling and watching fireworks from his chair with fruit juice with umbrella on top of it. Yep, sounds about right. Thanks @Rave for yt link.
