  1. Recently I've noticed an influx of players joining without TS, how can we communicate with them ingame to remind them of the rules? I ask as the event is likely to attract some first timers who may need a little reminder
  2. It's called Samsung Magician, you can download it for free but it's limited to copying TO a Samsung drive.
  3. I'll be up for this. PS. There are some issues with the radio mod ACRE2 at the moment.
  4. You can use the backup feature of Win7/10 to do a system image and restore from that. As it happened I was using Samsung SSD which supply a free, very useful and easy software which can clone any disk/SSD to a Samsung SSD. For me, that's a big reason to stick with Samsung SSD.
  5. Gareth, Looks like you've ended up with a good build, I rebuilt my mATX PC into a Midi tower case recently with all-in-one Corsair H110 water cooler and improved cooling and have just got a new PSU and GTX970 so even though you've ordered, here's some advice from my experience which could help you (or others) in the future:- The PSU is often over looked as it doesn't directly increase performance for £ spent, however it is important to get a good 'quality' PSU (wattage does not necessarily equal this). The PSU you've chosen is fine and will do what you need of it although getting a Gold (or better) rated PSU will not just provide increased efficiency (cost less to run) but are generally made of higher quality components which will last longer and provide more stable power. This can be essential if overclocking or even just to get the best turbo boost performance from a CPU or GPU (e.g. Nvidia GPU boost will only get the max out of your card if there is sufficient power available). based on this I just got a 750w Platinum rated unit for £92. I started with a 120Gb SSD and 500Gb HDD, I don't do video editing but soon found the SSD too small when BF3 had all addons released, I then got a 250Gb and found the same with BF4 and GTAV installed, add on top of that Arma3 and mods it was not enough, so I have my old 120Gb SSD for Arma3 and some other things. 120Gb SSDs can be found very cheap at the moment (£34.99!) and it's worth considering this in the future for either games or to use as a scratch disk for your streaming and editing. Also as said, the RAM speed makes very little difference (if any) to gaming performance so I'd opt for 16Gb of decent RAM (Crucial do deals direct on their website) which will help with nearly everything including video editing. As for the graphics card, generally buying the card with the best base clock and boost clock in class is a good way to go, also if you read some reviews you'll realise that spending more money can reduce the 'value' you're getting if you were to divide the FPS achieved in your favourite games by £-spent. (this does also work in the opposite way when buying the cheaper cards - the FPS achieved per £-spent will go down). I'd advise against 4K at the moment, 1440p is a decent sweet spot. Windows 10 - you CAN'T activate it with a Win7/8 key, but you can 'upgrade' a genuine installation to Win10 for free, but you don't get a CD-key and it's bound to that PC forever (you can make changes to the hardware but may have to contact MS to get it re-activated). I've been using Win10 for a few months now after upgrading from Win7 and in truth I currently prefer Win7 as it was cleaner and has less clutter I wasn't interested in, however I realise that Win10 will become the norm and has been reviewed as performing better than Win7/8. I hope this helps and hope you have a straight forward build! Regards, Alex.
  6. I'm reasonably new so only used TFAR for a month or so but in my limited experience ACRE2 is more user friendly to the newbie as you simply turn the channel dial as needed, no pissing around finding frequency 101.01mhzzz, although I've not occupied a role requiring more complicated comms in either case. I liked how the radio in TFAR occupied the radio slot rather than just sitting in a backpack etc. I'm also intrigued by having to carry multiple radios, does this happen in real life? Am I naive in assuming there'd be a single unit to fulfil multiple functions? E.g. If you have three radios, surely you're limited by only having two ears. In any case, the only issue I've had with ACRE2 has been the babel/dalek effect, which I reliably reproduced by re-slotting in the server, resolution was to restart Arma/TS, annoying but not the end of the world. I think it's good that people are discussing and providing feedback - although we should all becareful not to sound like whiney spoilt children - I appreciate that a lot of effort has been put in with the overall objective of improving the experience for all (not to piss people off), so thanks to all involved and patience to those currently experiencing issues. Regards, Alex.
  7. Played the original Arma with some friends way back on the 'Evolution' game mode. Missed Arma2 and recently got Arma 3 after watching the streams and YT videos from LT. Played a couple of Zeus missions and realised I actually enjoyed watching them more than playing, however EU#3 was the real gem found here at AW. Regards, Alex.
  8. A few times on the server now there has been discussion about what ammo to take as there are probably 20 different types of 5.56mm alone, and many of which are not interchangeable into other weapons, which you might expect them to be. My suggestion is to rationalise the ammo available via the arsenal/ammo crates/vehicles to the basic 5.56mm magazines including tracers, which seem to work in M4, M16, M416, M249 etc. The same could also be done for the M249 ammo which appears to be compatible but when you need it you find out it doesn't work, and also other ammo types such as 7.62mm, so that a basic set of magazines is available for all guns. This may or may not have been discussed before, but as a new-ish player for the past 2months it is a regular topic of conversation. As always thanks for the all the work and effort that goes into the servers and configurations, it's been great fun playing so far and long may it continue. Regards, Alex.
  9. I'm using Arma3Sync and the Official/Modded respositories and now have a few different versions of the same mods, can I delete (or backup to another location) the older versions to save space on my system drive? Regards, Alex.
  10. I love the snow map, is a nice addition. However the snow effect is not very realistic (is limited to a sphere around each player and not a global effect) so my opinion is it detracts from the experience. Regards, Alex.
  11. If you haven't done so already and assuming your have two modules of RAM, try removing one and seeing if it helps. If one stick is failing, you'll be able to identify it through process of elimination and even though you'll have less RAM, be able to run stable with the other stick.
  12. I don't think my max FPS changed, but it was smoother with less variation, I still take a hit on EU#1 when there's a lot of units together however overall the experience is much more consistent.
  13. I've been playing ArmA3 for a month now and have been experimenting with ways to improve FPS, I've read all the google results about the tweaks you can do to the config files (as I'm sure many of you more seasoned players have done also) and TBH do not think they yield any significant improvements. However I have been monitoring CPU and GPU usage and concluded that any CPU/GPU throttling does seem to affect overall performance. ArmA3 does not make great use of system resources (especially GPU) so I found my GPU (GTX 660Ti) was not 'turbo'ing' to it's maximum speed. This can be affected by many factors including temperature, but my system is watercooled and such has no issues. By adjusting the power settings in the nVidia driver for the Arma3.exe application, my GPU now clocks to maxmum speed regardless of how much utilisation it's getting. I beleive there are also similar settings available to ATI/AMD users but I am not familiar with them specifically myself. FYI I use MSI Afterbuner to monitor my GPU, and display it on my G15 keyboard (it also logs it so you can view history if you can't watch it in realtime). You can also do similar with the CPU using the Windows power options in control panel, but it's not application specific so could pin your CPU at max speed and increase power consumption/heat when idling. Windows also 'parks' CPU cores when not in use, you can google this and find many guides on how to disable this which ensures all cores are available when needed, however this is probably not necessary. Another advanced tweak is in your BIOS to the processor C-states, this is not advisable to alter for the novice user, but I have disabled all C-states and left 'SpeedStep' and 'TurboBoost' enabled which ensures my CPU is clocking up to the correct speed, rather than perhaps clocking down when ArmA3 does not utilise it effectively. This will potentially increase power consumption, but when my PC is on it's gaming 90% of the time, the impact for me is negligeble, your mileage may vary - I actually tested this with my electric smart meter and the impact at idle was not substantial (perhaps in the order of 20watts). *I should add - please read this advise with caution (!), any changes you make to your system from default has the potential to cause issues and potential failure of components.* I hope this helps anyone who has issues or is looking for other ways to optimise their performance. Regards, Alex.

    Squad Servers

Will be buying this and look forward to playing with you guys thanks for putting in the time and effort to get a server up.
  15. I joined EU3 ealier using the modded repository and successfully joined. Thanks for the help!
  16. Thanks for your help - it would seem I have misunderstood the tutorial and was trying to join with both modsets selected in Arma3Sync. Next time I'm online I'll try with just 'Modded' and confirm that it works. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
  17. Thanks for the replies so far, so for clarity, to join the EU#3 Modded server, I should load the game with ONLY those addons from the Modded repository? E,g, de-select the Official ones? From the tutorial, it says "Allowed addons will work on all our ArmA3 servers (EU#1, #2 and #3). Modded server addons will ONLY work on EU#3." - have I interpreted this incorrectly when trying to join with both Official and Modded modsets active? Regards, Alex.
  18. thanks for the suggestion, I will try it and see what happens. Regards, Alex.
  19. I tried joining the server with the 'no logs' launch option set in Arma3Sync and I get the following error when joining:- " 'C:... blah... Arma3\@outlw_magrepack\addons\outlw_magrepack.pbo', 'C:... blah... Arma3\@l_es\addons\l_es.pbo' are not signed by a key accepted by this server." I've installed both official and modded respositories via Arma3Sync and both are upto date. Regards, Alex.
  20. Hi guys, i thought i'd try to join EU#3 and make sure everything was working after downloading all the mods/addons and playing on EU#1 a few times. I'm using Arma3Sync to launch my game as per the forum guide and get the folllowing error when joining (followed by 'session lost'):- "error: creating weapon rhs_weap_m107 with scope=private" I googled it and found this page on the RHSMods site suggesting the error has been fixed but i'm not familiar with the mod to understand exactly what is going on. If anyone has experienced/resolved this or can explain in laymans terms with me it'd be appreciated. Regards, Alex.
  21. Jumped on EU#1 this evening and it's all working sweet, had some awesome games (thanks to my fellow squad members and players) and think i've got the knack of it again! Hopefully be on again this weekend! Regards, Alex.
  22. Afternoon all, I've just got ArmA 3 after a few years of not playing it since the original Arma and the old Evolution game maps (some years ago now!) Hope to join you on your servers and TS soon, just read your help guide for downloading the mods and am very grateful for it! See you in game! Regards, Alex (ParabolicAJB).
