  1. Yeah, I guess I read Scar's no-comment as negative ; ) Please don't get me wrong, I think this would be cool and would really like to help find a way to make it work!
  2. When I first read this I though "this would be very cool", imagining myself being part of a small, elite team of Russian special forces infiltrated behind enemy lines, causing all sorts of havoc, communicating and attacking and then disappearing! And then I remembered... this is a public server, most people on there just want to run around like they are playing COD and have very little regard for any sort of organisation or basic concepts of infantry combat. Most of the time they are just fighting the urge to kill their own teammates! They will drive straight to the blue base and get a kick out of blowing up choppers waiting on pads or sniping people at spawn, ruining it for most. So, sadly, and as much as I think the AI is almost useless and this is an exciting concept, I second what most people said. Leave it as Plaver vs. AI and develop another PvP server option.
  3. Guys, Is there any mod on AWE that allows the AI to hear and react to sound? I'm referring to not only gunshots, but also footsteps and talking.
  4. Is there an issue with Shacktac on EU1 and 2? I can't log on when I use that mod.
  5. Thanks @Lost Bullet. I sorted it out in the end. I needed to move both the CBA and AW_CBA mod to the top of the priority list in ArmaSync. However, the error is back again. What is happening is that when I get into the server screen in Arma the EU1 and 2 servers appear with a red dot. I have all the latest mods from the repo, so not sure what the cause might be. Will try to get a log.....
  6. Hi all, I'm getting the hated Session Lost error after installing 64 bit. I've update the mods from the repo and updated TFAR. I'm not sure what could be going wrong, any help appreciated. Have also tried running with the 32 bit extension "arma.exe" but again no luck.
  7. With the update to Shaktac, do we still need to run the 32 bit .exe?
  8. Just as an example, as a newbie, I don't really understand the differences between all the servers. I know EU1 and 2 are IA, EU3 is AWE, which is "Advanced", but I played on EU6 the other day and that was more advanced than AWE b/c it was 1st person only and used the Alive mod, which I had no experience with. Some clarity on the servers would also help. Apologies if I missed this in the forums somewhere. Been trying to climb the learning curve as quickly as possible.
  9. Is it ok to join later? Say 21:00 UK time?
  10. @GhostDragon I had a full read of all the guides and they were excellent and very useful. I just don't think they provide all the information you need when you are new.
  11. I was one of the new players that really wanted to join this training and unfortunately I ran into issues logging in (Session Lost error repeatedly). I think this may turn off some new players, and I know this is being dealt with in other forums, so not a topic for here, but I think it did affect the turn out. Another idea is maybe to get players a small briefing document or basic instructions ahead of the training session. When I did manage to log in, and not having been on the AWE server before, I really wasn't sure where to go or what to do. Unfortunately I got disconnected soon after, but I can imagine that I would not have known where to go. This comment applies to the AWE server in general as well. Some may have noted that I ask a lot of questions about protocol. How do I contact my squad lead? How do I join a team? How do I get a lift? Etc. As a new player, these things aren't clear. I've always received the answers from players, but I think a quickie guide to protocol for noobs might be useful. I was thinking that, if it helps, I could write down a bunch of questions that maybe then get answered by more experienced guys and gets pinned in the forum. One more suggestion is to make sure the Calendar section of the Forum is updated and accurate. It is currently highlighting past events and I don't think the training event was showing up in the calendar.
  12. @Amentes who would move me? Do I contact someone to be moved?
  13. @Samous I recently started playing on these servers I can tell you they are the most helpful bunch of guys I've ever met online. And I'm old and have been playing online games since they were invented. One piece of advice - learn TFAR and ACE. You'll enjoy the game a lot more if you know how to use these.
  14. I managed to join my first game on EU6 last night and I have to say it was a lot of fun. Thanks to Sozio and the other guys in my squad who help me get oriented and not make too much of a noob out of myself. I managed to not die, which is another plus. One question - I will be unable to join next week because I'm travelling. But I'd like to join the week after. Can you tell me how I connect with my squad assuming we spawn in different places? Thanks again to all!
  15. Great advice @D.Devil can you explain where to find a fuel and repair container? I didn't know they existed!
  16. So I have been spending quite a bit of time on EU1 over the last weeks and I quickly got bored of the run for 10 minutes and then get team killed by the guy who drives over you in his Hunter, so I whipped out the old joystick, learned to fly in advanced and became a pilot. Yeah, I don't mind getting shouted at occasionally. I have noticed, however, that a lot of pilots out there are very inconsiderate to others. So, I thought I'd make a short list of beefs and some things that I do that I think make the world a better place, for pilots and passengers alike. 1) Pilots, lock your guns before you take off. Clearly the temptation to fire miniguns at base is too much for some people. So, as a matter of course, and as the choppers spools up, get in the habit of locking the guns. 2) Look 360 degrees before taking off from anywhere. Too many times I've been coming in to land at base and the guy in the other pad takes off and flies right into my flight path (or into me). It's just a matter of having a look, really. 3) If you see a pilot waiting for a chopper to spawn, don't just run and take his chopper when it does. It doesn't hurt to ask. In other words, don't be a jerk. 4) This one really gets me - if you crash a chopper but you live, DON'T just leave it in the middle of nowhere! [Edit:see replies below for best repair option]. Only if you can't do that, then make sure you take some explosives with you at all times and blow the chopper. If you don't have explosives, get another pilot to bring you some. Finally, if you can't do any of that, send a message to the admin. But that should be a last resort. 5) If you crash the chopper at base, don't just leave it there and take another chopper. Most of the time you can walk to the repair truck, drive it to the chopper, get in the chopper and it will be fixed. Alternative, ask a repair guy to fix it. Seriously, it's not that hard. 6) Mark sensible LZs - too many times I have seen people mark LZs that are useless, only to then leave that one on the map and mark another. Other pilots will likely use the bad LZ. If you got shot down, don't just leave it there for others to get shot down. 7) Ask your passengers where they are going. If you don't get an answer, than take them wherever you feel like, but definitely ask. I'm sure I'll got some AA for this post, but hey, what pilot doesn't?
  17. THanks. I tried to join, but had all manner of connection issues - constantly got the "Session Lost" message when trying to join. Got some help from the guys, but no luck. I look forward to future ones! BTW, my username used to be S4. Had to change it as that was linked to my son's Steam account!
  18. Thanks Colsta, is there a way to communicate with the squad from the profile selection screen before entering the game?
  19. Thank you. Just one more thing to add. Alpha and Bravo squads were both full, so I took the Autorifleman position in Delta. I was the only Delta guy in there, hence why I wasn't sure who to join. Thanks on the tip about the radio and DAGR.
  20. Hi all. So, I finally managed to get on the AWE server and stay connected, which gives me hope that I will be able to play properly. I also managed to get the TFAR working properly with some great help from the guys in the lobby and in game (thanks all). A quick question about protocol - when I joined the game I managed to get myself transported to the AO, and there I met with a bunch of guys who were in the thick of the fight. Now, one of them gave me a "join Bravo" instruction and then ran off shooting. So I followed for a little while but it was obvious I was in the wrong place. I tuned my radio to the Bravo channel and said something stupid like "Bravo, new joiner looking to join squad.....", to which I got no answer. So the question is - what's the correct protocol to join an in-progress game? What radio calls should I use? How do I know what squad to join? Any help much appreciated. JaSmAn
  21. Thanks for the reply @Colsta, made a correction to my message above with what I meant by the servers. In any case, I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that playing heavily modded Arma online may be beyond my capability and the time I have available to put into learning all the intricacies of solving bugs, connection issues, running .bat files, allocating memory, etc. Have received great help from everyone here and much appreciate that!
  22. Hi guys, Well, I tried to join in on the training last week and after a few attempts and some great help in the TS lobby I managed to connect and join, only to be dropped by a "Session Lost" error as I placed myself in line with the rest of the guys! I tried numerous times to login but no luck. I then went off and reinstalled Battleye, and by the time I was able to log back in, the event was over. Oh well. I also tried logging in again over the weekend, just to make sure I could, and yes, I was able to connect but again got dropped about 2 minutes into the game by a "Session Lost". I'm at the point now that I don't want to play vanilla or even EU 1 and 2 because it's just a bunch of people running around with no order, most of the time just killing each other! Any help or guidance appreciated.
  23. @GhostDragon just put my name in the form but I'm not sure if it actually did anything.... thanks!
