  1. Different Eagle. My attempted extraction was with a Blackfish.
  2. My two cents. I remember a few weeks ago on EU2, we were engaged and I got shot. The guys I was running with dragged/carried me away from danger and called someone to fly in and extract me. While we waited for transport, they appeared to be covering my unconscious body while fighting off the hostiles for quite a while. Not that I have a lot in my limited time here, but that was definitely one of the greatest moments I've experienced on AW servers. But that was probably a one-in-a-million thing and in the end, I still died... The problems I saw at that moment: 1) Even if med/casevac is called in immediately, it takes a while for the extraction party to arrive. Depending on distance to base, threat in AO etc., help may still come too late. Especially if you also need to return to base within the (current) bleed-out period before you can get healed. 1 Bis) The situation above was one in which we were constantly and properly cooperating. On EU2 and most likely all public servers, I find those moments to be rare, and you often find yourself either lone-wolfing it, or creating a "team of the moment" consisting of the guys that just happen to be standing around you for the next 5 or 10 minutes... In that isolated environment, even utilising in-game chat and TS, it can take a (very) long time before anyone diverts from his own mission/objective to help another guy. (as I've experienced when I accidentally hit a tree with a GH, destroying the main rotor, and found myself stuck on an island for 30+ minutes) 2) At the moment of said situation, it appeared to be impossible to put a casualty in the back of a vehicle, and as the VTOL coming in didn't have a medic on board, they had to leave me behind. So either (1) you need a medic onboard of the med/casevac all the time (which would be realistic, but dedicating one of the medics to med/casevac duty drags him away from healing guys in the battlefield. In its current form, it also makes the extraction pointless - except for immersion's sake - as he could just revive you on the spot), or (2) you need to add a way to place/remove an immobile unit in/from the passenger seat.
  3. From what I gathered, they were indeed waiting for the recon team to report, and then decide if and where they would need an air insertion. The moment we saw "first contact" appear in side chat, however, everybody just mounted up and we left for Vagalala.
  4. Just remembered, something Amentes and myself discussed last night was that (almost) everyone was using suppressors, so maybe there should be a limitation on those as well. For the attackers, during a full-on assault as a quick reaction force, I don't think you're really concerned about coming in quietly. In fact, I think the mere sound of your fire - especially when it's coming from different sides - can be as overwhelming, distracting and/or disorienting to the enemy as your actual assault. As for the defenders, because they had suppressors, they were able to pick the attackers off so easily, without ever having to worry about giving away their position. It would've been a lot harder/riskier for them to open fire on someone if they knew they could be spotted, and possibly come under return fire from a few other guys.
  5. As mentioned shortly during debrief: As a pilot, the main crutch was visibility, which was (at base) ±150m on ground, but close to 0 as soon as you lifted off. Even though visibility was slightly better at AO, we were forced to either stay high or go slow all the way in, if we didn't want to crash into cranes, poles or cables. As such, it didn't make a lot of sense to even use helicopters, and vehicle transport would've been a more logical option. Nevertheless, I think Amentes did a good job, I tried my best and we got the troops where they wanted to go. As pilots, a few things were unclear to us. E.g. initial insertion plan and what we were supposed to do after the initial insertion, especially because CAS seemed/was pretty much a no-go at that time. The initial post here says CSAT was allowed to respawn, but it said nothing about BLUFOR and despite seeing a few kill-messages, nobody seemed to show up at base, so we didn't know if there even was a respawn allowed for BLUFOR. Future ops may benefit from a bit more clarity on that topic, for example by having a general mission brief, then allow squads to prepare and finish it off with a quick relay of intent. Finally, it's a shame the mission went south, particularly with people using vehicles they shouldn't have, and (unintentionally) destroying them in the process. Poor discipline, which resulted in chaos that could have easily been avoided/settled with some basic communication first. I want to finish on a good note, however, by saying that I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the mission, and I hope to be part of it again someday soon.
  6. Assuming Luetin's event will be quite popular tomorrow, maybe those who can't get in the server could join up to have a go at the campaign instead.
  7. If you have a second screen available (including LCD displays on keyboards like the G15), you can also use MSi Afterburner to check your CPU/GPU/RAM load, temps, fan RPM, ... while you play.
  8. Hey guys, With tomorrow's (official) arrival of Apex and the coop campaign it brings, I was thinking we could maybe use a place to discuss it. EDIT: Totally forgot, so thanks, Pero: Please try not to post spoilers, everyone. Those who want can perhaps also use this thread to arrange a time to meet up with a few guys from the AW community, without having to pull them from the servers.
  9. Definitely interested. If I may already, does anyone here know if it's possible, and if so how, to get full throttle range in ArmA? I've looked on the WWW multiple times, tried many things, but to no avail. My X52 axes work (verified in other sims) and I can get the engine on at <5% but for some reason, helicopters won't lift off or stay in hover until I reach ±85%.
  10. Pie, seriously? You gave away our best tactic already? *sigh* Back to the drawing board, guys.
  11. If you need an extra pilot, I'm up for it, if you'll have me. If you need to check if I'm good enough to be one, PM to arrange a time and date?
  12. Working with a white-list would require every new pilot to be evaluated, and if they fail that test, be evaluated again some time later when they reapply. This would require a tremendous amount of time and effort from the AW-staff. Even though I know I'm a decent virtual pilot, I realise you don't have a clue who I am. Hence, as a newcomer, it can still be a bit daunting to throw myself out there and be the bus driver among/for the veterans, but I like that I'm given the chance to prove my worth. That goes not only for the pilot slot, but for every role there is on the server. Of course, if I screw up (repeatedly), I'd understand if someone (kindly) told me to get some more practice/training elsewhere.
  13. I don't know much about ArmA scripting, server hosting etc. but wouldn't it be possible for the server to sort of balance the odds? E.g. if there are less than X pilots on the server, the VTOL and/or GPS-accurate artillery aren't spawned (or at least reduced chance of them popping up). Less skilled, less accurate or less powerful opponents (e.g. mortars instead of Sochor) are another option, though I think that may be harder to implement solely for the "extras". That way, fatigue system could stay as it is, as you no longer have to take a whole arsenal with just a few guys.
  14. Current build, EU#2 2.86k Tano: - Ghillie suit is restricted to sniper only, and not available to spotters. - You can't add ammo to your backpack if it isn't for your own rifle/pistol. (confirmed in Spotter-role, not sure if it applies for all) - Encountered a few days ago, so not sure if current build, but Autorifleman is unable to add RGO/RGN to inventory. EDIT: Noticed today that anything picked up from the battlefield that doesn't belong to your own class (in this case, compact NVG) is also automatically removed. Though not absolutely necessary, I think allowing certain spoils of war could be fun.
  15. I know I'm new here, but would I be allowed to join Sunday's event? I'm coming from Belgium (Ostend region) and if need be, I can pick up a few guys on the way there.
  16. I like the idea of having to repair helicopters when they're sitting somewhere in a field. However, I noticed that sometimes you just can't fix one, even at base... E.g. a few days ago, I accidentally crash-landed a Ghosthawk in the parking lot at base, due to a key combo overlap. *facepalm* Admittedly, the chance of the following happening again are slim (I hope?), but what I did was: - I took a repair and refuel truck, drove them to the GH and got the GH fixed and refueled. As I had landed with gear retracted, however, it kept rolling over. This didn't damage the GH, but starting the engines would be impossible while leaning on the main rotors. - I stabilised it upright between two small trucks, boarded and started the engine, only to have the main rotor be destroyed by colliding with something (no idea what, but shouldn't have been the trucks) after it had been running for about 15 - 20 seconds. After that, whatever I tried, I was unable to repair or refuel the helicopter. - Seeing no way to fix my mess, except blow up the GH, which is against the rules (especially on base), I took another heli and continued flying everyone in/out of AO's... As a result, we had a broken GH on the parking lot, being kept upright between 2 trucks, for hours. One example I'm slightly disagreeing with: "Landing too close, or flying over, the AO. It shows the pilot is not aware of the situation around him and if it results in the lost of aircraft or team mates will considered destroying assets or teamkilling." To me, overflying the AO does not equal being unaware of your situation. In fact, it can be quite the opposite. I know gauging pilot skill and experience levels, especially from new guys like myself, is very hard to do, so I understand the "lowest denominator" reasoning here, but in my experience, a pilot with proper situational awareness can fly over a hot AO, and come out unscathed. In such case, he could be a very valuable airborne recon or support asset, drop boots closer to the action, ... Of course, you should never take unnecessary risks, even if that means the boots complain about having to walk/drive another >2km to objective. My two cents, if you'll have them.
  17. By chance really. After installing the Apex sneak peak last week, I found I had lost my campaign progress (again ) and didn't feel like starting over. Never ventured in ArmA MP before, so wanted to give that a go for a change. Found only a few servers already hosting Tanoa, and I ended up on AW. Liked the atmosphere, and keep coming back for more.
  18. Hey, Been playing on the Apex-server a few times now, today even +3 hours, so thought I'd hop in and introduce myself. The name's Mathias, and I'm a 26 years old Belgian guy. Main passion is aviation, and as the XO of a virtual squadron in BMS a lot of my time is spent in (combat) flight simulations, but I've also played and enjoyed every OFP and ArmA there is, though I've only just begun venturing the online environment. On the server, I enjoy flying the most (obviously ), but if that's not available, I'll probably take on a marksman role. To many more fun times.
