  1. I can't give you a reference cause I'm not into the Arma side of things here at Ahoy World. However I am a QA Engineer/Tester so I can give you some things to look into for your CV or Interview. Here's a few keywords they'll be looking out for:

    • Types of testing
      • Acceptance testing
      • Automated testing
      • Accessibility testing
      • Black-box testing
      • Compatibility testing
      • Component testing
      • End-to-end testing
      • Exploratory testing
      • Functional testing
      • Integration testing
      • Load testing
      • Non-functional testing
      • Performance testing
      • Regression testing
      • Requirements testing
      • Sanity testing
      • Security testing
      • Unit testing (usually a dev's job not tester but worth knowing about)
      • Usability testing
        • testing, testing, and more testing :P
    • Development methodologies
      • Waterfall
      • RAD
      • Agile (Strongly recomend reading into this, no doubt Rockstar will be running there development with this process or a variant of it)
      • V-model based frameworks
    • Testing tools
      • Bug tracker: This may seem like an obvious one but look into different bug tracking tools like Jira, HP Quality Center, IBM Rational Quality Manager
      • Test execution tools
      • Automation tools
      • Performance testing tools
      • Security testing tools
    • Testing methods
      • Boundary value analysis: A test design technique where test cases are designed based on boundary values
      • Decision tables
      • Data-driven: A test scripting technique where you put in your inputs and results in a table and use one test script for execution. This is often used in automated testing
      • Equivalence partitioning: Another test design technique where you cover each partition at least once
      • Hazard or risk analysis
      • Test driven development: Writing the tests before the software
    • Roles and responsibilities
      • Tester or QA Engineer
      • Test Manager
      • Test Analyst
      • QA Lead
      • Developer
      • Product Owner - This guy is your best friend when it comes to acceptance criteria
      • Scrum Master - If you're doing Agile, this is the one making sure you're doing it properly
      • Product Manager
    • Qualifications
      • ISTQB: In the UK these are the ones to get
      • TMMi Professional: If the company is doing TMMi (I think this is quite common in the US but not so much in the games industry, more safety critical stuff)

Wow, I didn't mean to write quite that much. Hope this helps you with your application :)

  2. Very clean setup George! Love it! Needs another monitor though ;)

Cheers Danny. Yeah I could do with another monitor, I'd like to have a little touch screen to the right for my music, Teamspeak, etc. I just haven't found one that meets all my requirements yet.

  4.

This is an everyday day occurrence in GTA online but when it's for real, things are a little more serious. Luckily only one person, the pilot of the plane which lost a wing, was injured when he suffered cuts as he ejected using an emergency chute the other managed to land the plane safely despite serious damage to the wing and propeller.

  5. looks rubbish in my opinion

Don't knock it til you've tried it! I think the controller looks really ergonomic.

For the steam platform why don't they use the Raspberry board so you can use keyboard and mouse, instead of going to grabbing the attention of the Playstation and Xbox peeps all the time?

They would corner the market if they offered support for all console users and PC users.. Corrent me if I am wrong...

I guess you will anyway LOL!!!

The Steam OS will be available to download, you don't need to buy a steam box and can install it on your PC if you want. I plan on dual booting it alongside Windows :)

  6. Here's my other half's new CAD rig:

    CaitlinsPC006Edit.jpg

It was a really easy build to put together, 10/10 for Corsair's entry level Carbide 200R case. Thanks to Kyrie for the tip to go for AMD, it kept the rig within budget and Caitlin's happy maxing out the 8 cores rendering. Even though the graphics card is for CAD, most games run maxed out too with reasonable FPS!

Case: Corsair Carbide Series 200R Compact ATX Case Black w/ USB 3.0

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P

    CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition (AM3+/Octa Core/4.00Ghz/16Mb/125W)

    RAM: Corsair 8Gb (2x 4Gb) Dual Channel Vengeance Pro (DDR3 1600/9.0/1.5V)

Power Supply (PSU): Corsair 430W CXM Builder Modular 80 Plus Bronze PSU 3

    Graphics Card (GPU): PNY Quadro K2000 2GB GDDR5 Dual-DVI 2xDisplayPorts PCI-E Graphics Card

    CPU Cooler: AMD Stock

Hard Drive: (HDD) Seagate 2TB Barracuda Internal Hard Drive

    CD Drive: Liteon Ihas124 24x

  7. I had a go with an Oculus Rift today and I was really impressed. It's definitely the way forward for gaming and I can see myself buying the consumer version as soon as it comes out.

One of the best things about it is the sense of depth. It makes gaming on a screen seem very... flat. When gaming on a screen you wouldn't think twice about skipping the stairs and jumping over a rail, but now you can feel the height you think twice! I spent 1 minute just looking over a balcony thinking, 'woah, I'm really high up!'

It's really imerssive even with a controller for movement and controls, pressing forward on controller still felt normal to me, I didn't feel the need to move about and reach out for things which I wasn't expecting.

I just want it to replace my Track IR in sims like Assetto Corsa and DCS, it'll be alright in other games but those are the ones I think it will be best for!

It would be ideal for racing games. I think it would complete the racing sim experience when accompanied with a good wheel and pedals. You could look at your mirrors too which would usually be off screen without having to press a key!

My only gripe would be the resolution, 720p is really pixely close up! But they are addressing that in the consumer version! :)

  8. Looks like fun, how much out of pocket does it leave you?

My local gliding club is fairly cheap. A trial lesson is £46 which gets you around 15-20 minutes in the air. If you want to take it up as a hobby (able to fly solo) you've got to do some training and an exam. Fergie is the man to talk to here when it comes to gliding.

  9. I do love the original. The first game was like Marmite, some people liked it, others hate it. The people who didn't like it thought it was too linear and restricted, EA have said this one will be open world! :D

I just wish they'd shown more parkour in the trailer. The combat was okay in the first game but the 1st person parkour was what made it so special. I also hope their R and D team have spoken to some traceurs before this one, Faith's climb-ups were a little slow :P

I am exited and will definitely be buying on the release day but I'm hoping so bad they don't do a 'Sim City' to a game in my top 5.

  10. Hi Hawke. Welcome to Ahoy World!

I don't think that's a reason for any of the Admins to boot you out, I'll have a look into that!

    1. To join our Teamspeak, first you'll need the Teamspeak client which you can download from here: http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads
    2. Once you have installed it, click Connections and then type ts.ahoyworld.co.uk into the Server Address field
    3. Type in your nickname and then hit connect

See you on the battlefield

  11.

How mania TrackMania fans have we got here at Ahoy World? I'm hooked on this game at the moment, it's been a while since I've played a game where I'm on the edge of my seat buzzing on adrenaline with a big grin on my face.

I'll be playing this on Saturday if anyone wants to join me. You can pick up a copy of TrackMania 2 Stadium for £7.99 on Steam.

  12. If it's anything like Take On Helicopters, the first in the series they'll be time trials, challenges and multiplayer scenarios. I wonder if there will be enough content in this game, otherwise it's just going to end up in the bargain bucket on Steam.
