  1. Hey guys,

With tomorrow's (official) arrival of Apex and the coop campaign it brings, I was thinking we could maybe use a place to discuss it. :)

EDIT: Totally forgot, so thanks, Pero: Please try not to post spoilers, everyone. ;)

Those who want can perhaps also use this thread to arrange a time to meet up with a few guys from the AW community, without having to pull them from the servers.

  2. Definitely interested.

If I may already, does anyone here know if it's possible, and if so how, to get full throttle range in ArmA? I've looked on the WWW multiple times, tried many things, but to no avail. My X52 axes work (verified in other sims) and I can get the engine on at <5% but for some reason, helicopters won't lift off or stay in hover until I reach ±85%.

  3. Working with a white-list would require every new pilot to be evaluated, and if they fail that test, be evaluated again some time later when they reapply. This would require a tremendous amount of time and effort from the AW-staff.

Even though I know I'm a decent virtual pilot, I realise you don't have a clue who I am. Hence, as a newcomer, it can still be a bit daunting to throw myself out there and be the bus driver among/for the veterans, but I like that I'm given the chance to prove my worth. That goes not only for the pilot slot, but for every role there is on the server. Of course, if I screw up (repeatedly), I'd understand if someone (kindly) told me to get some more practice/training elsewhere. :)

This isn't about a full/half full server with groups of players.
This is about a low population server with at most 10 people.

I don't know much about ArmA scripting, server hosting etc. but wouldn't it be possible for the server to sort of balance the odds?

E.g. if there are less than X pilots on the server, the VTOL and/or GPS-accurate artillery aren't spawned (or at least reduced chance of them popping up). Less skilled, less accurate or less powerful opponents (e.g. mortars instead of Sochor) are another option, though I think that may be harder to implement solely for the "extras".

That way, fatigue system could stay as it is, as you no longer have to take a whole arsenal with just a few guys.

  5. Current build, EU#2 2.86k Tano:

    - Ghillie suit is restricted to sniper only, and not available to spotters.

    - You can't add ammo to your backpack if it isn't for your own rifle/pistol. (confirmed in Spotter-role, not sure if it applies for all)

    - Encountered a few days ago, so not sure if current build, but Autorifleman is unable to add RGO/RGN to inventory.

EDIT: Noticed today that anything picked up from the battlefield that doesn't belong to your own class (in this case, compact NVG) is also automatically removed. Though not absolutely necessary, I think allowing certain spoils of war could be fun.

  6. I like the idea of having to repair helicopters when they're sitting somewhere in a field. :) However, I noticed that sometimes you just can't fix one, even at base...

E.g. a few days ago, I accidentally crash-landed a Ghosthawk in the parking lot at base, due to a key combo overlap. *facepalm*

Admittedly, the chance of the following happening again are slim (I hope?), but what I did was:

    - I took a repair and refuel truck, drove them to the GH and got the GH fixed and refueled. As I had landed with gear retracted, however, it kept rolling over. This didn't damage the GH, but starting the engines would be impossible while leaning on the main rotors.

    - I stabilised it upright between two small trucks, boarded and started the engine, only to have the main rotor be destroyed by colliding with something (no idea what, but shouldn't have been the trucks) after it had been running for about 15 - 20 seconds. After that, whatever I tried, I was unable to repair or refuel the helicopter.

    - Seeing no way to fix my mess, except blow up the GH, which is against the rules (especially on base), I took another heli and continued flying everyone in/out of AO's... As a result, we had a broken GH on the parking lot, being kept upright between 2 trucks, for hours.

One example I'm slightly disagreeing with:

"Landing too close, or flying over, the AO. It shows the pilot is not aware of the situation around him and if it results in the lost of aircraft or team mates will considered destroying assets or teamkilling."

To me, overflying the AO does not equal being unaware of your situation. In fact, it can be quite the opposite.

I know gauging pilot skill and experience levels, especially from new guys like myself, is very hard to do, so I understand the "lowest denominator" reasoning here, but in my experience, a pilot with proper situational awareness can fly over a hot AO, and come out unscathed. In such case, he could be a very valuable airborne recon or support asset, drop boots closer to the action, ... Of course, you should never take unnecessary risks, even if that means the boots complain about having to walk/drive another >2km to objective. :)

My two cents, if you'll have them. :)

  7. By chance really. :P

After installing the Apex sneak peak last week, I found I had lost my campaign progress (again <_<) and didn't feel like starting over. Never ventured in ArmA MP before, so wanted to give that a go for a change. Found only a few servers already hosting Tanoa, and I ended up on AW. Liked the atmosphere, and keep coming back for more. :)

  8. Hey,

Been playing on the Apex-server a few times now, today even +3 hours, so thought I'd hop in and introduce myself.

The name's Mathias, and I'm a 26 years old Belgian guy. Main passion is aviation, and as the XO of a virtual squadron in BMS a lot of my time is spent in (combat) flight simulations, but I've also played and enjoyed every OFP and ArmA there is, though I've only just begun venturing the online environment. On the server, I enjoy flying the most (obviously :P ), but if that's not available, I'll probably take on a marksman role.

    To many more fun times.
