  1. I can confirm what Pach is saying, it is not an offence. HOWEVER if a pilot requests that helicopter back for good reason (e.g. his jet got shot down) you should give it back. It's all about being sensible with what we have.

We used to have 4 pilot slots and since the reduction in numbers have reverted to 3, I have also put forward the idea of removing a helicopter, namely the ghost hawk. This is to be discussed though.

Absolutely - if an actual pilot wants a helo, it should be theirs - I just get in and take the controls...

    Remove a helo?!!

What about adding an attack chopper with some real teeth..?

(that being said, I did see someone take out the Mi28 with a Pawnee last night - twice, so need to give that a go...)

  2. FYI:

    >Server has 40 slots.

    >co-pilot seat (when not playing as a pilot) = server ban==>Wrong. They are bugs but it's not a ban reason.

Hi Pach, well I wasn't sure about that, when it was said - which is why I asked.

Good to know - thank you.

I fly using the co-pilot's seat if the transports aren't being utilized due to one of the pilots running CAS.

And frankly, since snipers (they really should be all together in a cohesive sniper team unit) are independent of the main force, they should be using their own ground transports. Helos aren't there to be everyone's personal chauffeurs.

    Hi Cain,

I'm not sure I agree with all of that - yes, certainly I don't think pilots should be considered chauffeurs by everyone (esp as they want their fun too), but with the map the size it is, I have noticed many people (I mentioned snipers, as that was the specific case yesterday) stranded and alone.  No matter why, it is no fun for people facing a 20 min slog back to base, so I just thought if co-pilot seat is ok (which Pach says it is), then people should be encouraged to use small helos to do these sort of pick ups :)

  3. Hi everyone,

With the huge amount of ground to be covered in the new map, along with availability of the Pawnee and jet, is it time for us to look at additional pilot slots - esp. when the server is set for 50 players?

The inclusion of the jet instantly reduces troop transport to 2, or even 1 helo, if a pilot decides to jump into the Pawnee at the same time.

On another note, I heard someone say today that flying in the co-pilot seat (when not playing as a pilot) = server ban.  Is this correct and if so, maybe this is something that could be reviewed, either as an alternative to the above, or in addition to it,  as long as only smaller helos are used by non pilots.

There is a lot of waiting around for many players - esp snipers, when they become stranded and allowing someone to whiz around and pick up stragglers would probably avoid heavier helos from being taken out in such pick ups (possibly losing many men at the same time).

    Just a thought.

  4. In a tenuous link... I found myself ejected mid air from my heli twice, whilst piloting the other night.

I'm still a newb pilot, so wonder if this has happened to anyone else, or if it was something that I did - I immediately quit after the 2nd time and went onto single player to practise and have not experienced this since...

    Anyone..?

  5.  Firstly sorry Kam totally forgot to finish the topic off haha!

And yes i can basically just like the mortar mission bar it spawns an enemy hind which can then fly about either the ao or the island causing havoc until it is shot down by a troop or airsupport. Could also add something like enemy reinforcements which spawns a KA filled with troops heading to the current AO. That's something i liked from ArmA2 domi was the reinforcements due to the radio tower being up and the enemy gunships which would attack ground troops and our airtransports. These both would be a nice addition to I&A.

Sounds like a good added element to the game

  6. Wouldn't it be cool if the enemies had one or two or three Main bases at all times, maybe the most southern point of the map at that lighthouse, and maybe the most northern point also, just abit north-east of agia marina, they could have a main base there together with the island's and have boat patrols there.

I've marked everything out with epic paint skills!

These bases could be harder than normal objectives with more enemies, give better rewards and always respawn after you've taken them unlike the normal objectives that changes to something else everytime you complete one.

You could also have car patrols between these bases that could just take you by surprise along these roads and kill you if not fast enough!

And for example the southern most base at the light house could have heavy AA stations so heli-drop is not an option there but you would have to do a boat insertion and/or land, with diving team to take out the boat patrols.

Hahaha epic Paint skills - brilliant.

I think that is a good idea for a specific server, say EU2, as an option for some variety and to get the mini sub into action

  7. ^^^^ that is my point.

You have one when you spawn in originally as well as after death and respawning. I do not see why not having them from a box is really an issue hence.....

Lol - still missing the point.

In essence the question was simply "where have the sniper rifles gone?"

We know that we spawn with a sniper rifle, but wanted to know where the others, that we previously had access to, had gone.

Like I said, Rarek seems to have covered it, so the question can be closed

  8. WRONG!

you get a sniper rifle when you spawn in. Why would you need to change it to the same sniper rifle again? As I said in my other post, It really is not that hard to go to a box and plop on a backpack and then add a bunch more magazines to your inventory. A sniper shouldn't be carrying around a sachel, 15 grenades, blah blah blah.... Their job is long range support. If you are blowing up a radio tower as a sniper, you are not doing your job correctly.

So needing a premade loadout is not even necessary. Take the extra minute to grab more ammo.

I see more where this is leading from everyone who is pissed about it. It seems that people who are not in a sniper role are mad because they cannot get these weapons any longer. All I can say to that is ........ The system is working :)

Thanks Jester, but think you have missed the point - sniper weapons, that have been available to snipers, are no longer available to snipers, that's all.

Not sure where the rest of your thoughts come from, but I just wanted to know why, when I am a sniper, I cannot access the sniper weapons that I used to be able to.

Rarek's answer seems to have covered all points.

  9. So there's been a bit of confusion over sniper availability recently and I've been working on I&A 3 so haven't been involved much in the mechanics of it. To explain, the main issue we face in co-operative games is everybody sitting on a hill shooting the enemy; it lacks variation, gets boring quickly and, if everyone's doing it, isn't all that fun.

Now in I&A 3 this is addressed in a totally different manner (which will be explained upon the first press release), but in I&A 2 the cleanest way to address the issue is to restrict certain weaponry. The way the system is supposed to work is that only those in the Sniper class can access sniper rifles and the easiest way to achieve that is to remove them from the ammunition boxes. Now, once again, this system will be entirely different in I&A 3, but for now -- without doing a complete overhaul of the ammo system -- that's how it'll have to work.

I realise that it's not ideal, but I would much rather spend my time creating an all-new, lag-free, optimised, planned I&A 3 than fixing minor issues in I&A 2. Also...

That breaks the system a little bit, but there ain't much we can do about that! :)

    To sum up:

    • Only Snipers should have snipers
    • There are no snipers in the ammo boxes; Snipers spawn with snipers

    Got it - thanks Rarek.

Someone did try to explain in game, but too much copter noise for me to hear.

  10. Hi all,

Really sorry if this has already been covered, but today left me very confused regarding sniper weapons.

When they first came out I saved both sniper rifles into my kit load out.

The .50 cal has disappeared (I may have swapped rifles and saved, I'm not sure) and now I just get a message telling me that the .408 is a restricted item and will not load - even when I am playing as a sniper?!!  Someone else seemed to have the .408, so I am assuming that I am doing something wrong..?

    Is this correct?

I completely understand restricting certain weapons to certain classes, but it seems snipers rifles have been restricted full stop - rendering the class pretty pointless.

On top of this, as no sniper rifles appear in the ammo boxes at all - if someone that has not played as a sniper before wants to play as a sniper, they will have to get someone to donate a rifle to them, presuming that anyone can actually access those rifles.

  11. Welcome to AW, Rob.

    See ya around.

    Thanks Jeff :)

    Welcome Rob !!

I guess that is what EA is doing nowadays, push all real gamers away to find real games ...

Thanks Kamaradski - I think you are spot on re EA - just mulching all similar games into one, with different titles.  Such a shame as BF2 was actually really good and I could actually run it on my old pc (unlike Arma2), but BF3 could have been called CoH or MoD!!  And BF4 looks like more of the same, although I have read that they say it will be different from CoD or MoH - not that I will be going back :D

  12. Hi everyone - I'm Rob (that name was taken on here and generally go by BackAnd2TheLeft or Legion FWAM in other games), been playing on AW pretty much every day since I found you and that was about 2 weeks after I started playing the awesome game that is ArmA 3, when the Alpha was first released!!

I'm in London, have my own business and love AW ArmA 3

My background is BF2 (hated BF3 and couldn't wait to buy a new machine when ArmA 3 was about to be released and so glad I did) and loads of other games going right the way back to the original hand held donkey kong and pac man.

    :)
