Training Whitelisting?

Recommended Posts

Any chance we could have another few training nights people could maybe attend to then be whitelisted to a slot that the training session corresponds to?

I know the attempts to training nights have been attempted before and have never gone great but just having a sign up thread to maybe Sunday training sessions to allow players to gain access to slots that could be locked for players who havent completed the training (like Platoon Command, Medic, HAT, Pilot that kind of stuff)

Hell, I'd love to even help host them or provide any help needed if this was to go ahead as its something which might be fairly efficient!

Either way this swings I'm still loving playing on EU3 and for almost a year now so good job gents and thanks!

Due to the high amount of newcomers the server has been getting lately I really would like to see some more general training sessions such as lessons/training in communication and weapons.

As for the whitelisting; I don't think EU3 should turn into some -get such an amount of medals to play this thing- kind of thing. Guess why I stopped playing CoD  ;)

I basically like the diversity in roles and maps and all the diversity they in turn offer to weapons, tactics and even camouflage. In my opinion; people should just be able to pick a slot, enjoy it, get used and get better at playing that roles and have some fun!

You can't rely on everybody being able to make it to those courses. And who in hell's name is gonna keep track of all the slots one out of a gazillion people can and cannot play.

I think training nights are a great idea; just choose a regular night / time and indicate the kinds of things that will be covered.

For example:

- Medical system

- Communications (Getting the most out of TFAR)

- Demolitions

- Heavy ordinance target practice (how often do people get to fire M136, Javelin, Titans?)

- CQB / room clearing techniques

- Torch / Hammer squad tank practice

I'd love to see recon team deployed in combat zone before actual mission happening. Gathering intel is the most valuable thing.

@Ryko: regarding training, it would be nice if we in the base have firing range also for vehicles, so for example, devs can integrate unmovable targets that will respawn after time and we can shoot them and lock on them with AT stuff. We had that in PS2 - VR training.

Bases are huge, it can be deployed without modifying the base layout, but as suggested in other posts, we need more base buildings like actual HQ only accessible by CMD,SL,TL and camps for soldiers. you spawn inside your barracks, having your box for stash stuff.

If we go even further, weapons are taken from arsenal building, and all weapons are logged who has taken what (no contraband allowed @Despite ;)), so when TL access stuff they can control who has taken what and how much of it. TLs should care about soldiers, SLs have supervision of TLs.

And for all that we need training slots. So when you are practicing you pick your role at first. For example Practice:Shooting range 1,or Practice: Demolitions and Explosives 5; numbers indicate which position on practice/training field)

That is the complexity we could have.

We just need to be patient and let devs do their best.

As a newcomer myself i would think this is a great idea. Altough i don't think whitelisting is the way to go since i would like to beleive that people know themself enough to realize that playing a slot they know they won't be able to handle isn't that great of an idea.

But like ryko and smiley said more general traning in tactics, comms and weapons i do think would help out people who are not used to playing at this level of seriousness or just are new to the mods.

Aslong as the the training instructor(s) know what they are talking about. This might just turn out pretty well.

Hmm.... I'll look into it. Staff are all a bit busy these days with real life situations and such like.

You're also more than welcome to host your own training sessions too. Remember that the staff don't always have time for this so if someone in the community did it, that would be great.

Honestly, if you need target practice, it's pretty easy to open up the Editor, create a single-player scenario with a Zeus module, and then proceed to go nuts.

If anyone wants a tutorial on how to do that, then I'll be happy to oblige.

In my experience, actual training sessions should focus on the stuff that you can't easily practice alone; such as the use of comms and formations.

The question then becomes whether or not that makes sense to practice in the first place, as I doubt people actually want to practice brief and consice contact reporting and strict formations. Just doesn't seem to be what the community is; personally I'd rather it remain that way, as the former is a been-there, done-that sort of situation for me.

@Josh - Yes, we could do it on our own, but I think what we'd be looking for is the credibility and advertising support of a blog post on Ahoyworld to make it a formalized thing.  I'd be happy to coordinate with people on this... perhaps we set up a poll and people can indicate what they'd like a training night to include?  I'm thinking maybe two topics per night so it doesn't get overly boring, and then proceed to mission.

@Amentes - you're absolutely right about going into the Zeus editor to make this happen; however there are some things you just need someone to tell you.  It took someone walking me through how to use the Javelin before I could make it work (night vision, zoom in to max, then tab to target) because it's set up differently than vanilla Arma.

@plant1ng - I agree with your comments.  Personally I'm enjoying being Team lead a lot (yes I will pick up SL and even PL again) because you have more direct contact with how an op unfolds.  I find it's good to just set an objective and a method (waypoint 200 metres east, line formation, go) and let the team sort themselves out.  The buddy system with group colours seems to be really good (especially when we get wounded, addicted to morphine and pass out every ten minutes - good to have someone there with you).

The staff would more than be willing to help anymore member who wants to run any kind of event for EU3 you'd have to contact Christiansen however you could do it through any of the moderators. Just message him/us on the forums and we can set it in motion for you. Obviously all we'd make sure is you have plenty content to keep the users happy and that you know the what you're doing/showing + obviously the rules :)

I do agree with the idea that people can just train themselves if they wish to get better at something e.g flying but having a certified tag or something along those lines, allowing a player to join a certain slot corresponding to their training, would be ideal i.m.o.

oh wouldn't it just... but try telling that to the top :P I'd love certified pilots, marksman/sniper, command etc. Because they're pretty vital/Gameplay altering roles.

Another thing that I've just noticed is that if everybody trains themselves then parts may be missed out so I think that set training or boot camp sessions are required.

In the 48th there are scheduled opportunities when the higher ranking players teach 'boot camps' where newer players can go to and learn what to do in each circumstance.

its probably come up already but  :P
