Guilty Admissions

So a few times in the past I can hold my hands up and say i've made some development (dev) mistakes and gameplay faux pars. Here's a few:

Oh i'd like anybody that has ever worked on anything and done something daft to own up, we all do it!

1. I put in automatic doors in ARMA3 that when called upon to open... forced the server to find every default object on the map to be found... doing this multiple times would cause huge desync

2. In the early days of I&A (Alpha phase) we purposefully put helicopter tail rotors underneath hangers as a noob filter

3. Me and a few other pilots enjoy playing passenger bowling to anybody that has stood in front of the line at base on I&A when we're coming in to land, the highest score was around 5 kia

4. While trying to deal with a teamkiller firing at a helicopter at base, i accidentally threw a lightning bolt at the full helicopter blowing it and the people inside to tiny pieces

5. We looked into developing a way to exploit ragdol physics to simulate being tased by an admin

6. in beta we wanted to put signs on boards at base for effect, we had to devote a couple of hours to figure out how to stick a user texture to a blank board (There was no setTexture for that object), we also had to split the texture up into two halves. the pictures were rather large in filesize!

7. I made a game night mission featuring a NATO faction rescuing an AAF faction, when the NATO bird got close, it would play "Nowhere to run" at a level so loud we couldn't communicate via voice, it went on for the full duration of the song for about 3 occasions...

8. I made a game night mission featuring a listening outpost playing radio traffic (Not as loud as number 7 don't worry), the players set up around the building ready to breach (I guess about 8 of them), there were 3 enemy AI's inside. A volley of grenades through windows and troops breaching the door before said grenades went off AND crossfire from those players that remained alive resulted in massive casualties only 2 came out alive.

9. In that same mission as #8 after a restart, they knocked out the shack. there were 3 or 4 CSAT players just to stir it up and HOAX. managed to find a mortar and took out ALL of the NATO players (Around 20) over the course of 10-15 minutes... the mission was scrapped :P

10. I once had a bing-bong airport style announcement bell ring in the terminal every time a helo arrived at base, it was removed to save file size :(

1st admission: during gamenight I once ordered my AT soldier to fire his rpg over the other squads head. It led to a large amount of anger towards him for doing it. I never admitted to the order.

2nd: I once made a gamenight which involved an ied script. It created over 500 ieds. We got about 2km from base and abandoned mission.

3rd: during beta I was rather cocky with my piloting. Raz had loaded a hemett full with troops and I followed in a ghost gawk at about 2ms above. I may of crashed into the truck earning myself 15+ kills and a kick.

I once ordered a medic (despite his warnings) to cross a field into danger to go revive somebody in the heat of battle, the medic died running accross the open in a hail of machine gun fire and i have never lived it down since

1. In the early days of I&A people would jump vehicles onto the roof of our main building. I jumped one up to bring 2 other ones down. This would've worked perfectly except I went too fast, skidded off the other end straight into a fully loaded helicopter which exploded, total dead was about 20.

2. During a gamenight we were in two fireteams, we met up half way through as our medic had died. After meeting up we immediately came under fire, I got down to check my gear and accidentally threw a grenade. Guess where it landed? The only remaining medic. Mission failed.

1: in David's previous post, it was me that put the vehicles up there :D

traces of this event can still be found in David's profile:

So. In a bid to get 2 Hunters that got parked on the base roof down, I jumped the last remaining hunter onto the roof to push them both off and then bring the one I brought up, down. That's how it should have gone at least. What actually happened was jumping on to the top off the roof, hitting the brakes then sliding off the end to crash straight into a helicopter full of people destroying and killing all of them and several other people in the vicinity. Hunters on the roof: 1, David: -15...

Oh man, I know I've heard this one somewhere before! Now where was it...

Similarly to #4 in the OP I tried to Lightning Bolt a Teamkiller at base, as I was not sure of the effective area of the bolt I also managed to destroy a hummingbird on the pads which was near the target vehicle/player.

I have a tonne of things that happened during gamenights or other periods of organized play:

1) On one game night when I was in charge of a squad, I split the squad into two fireteams and knowingly sent one fireteam on a suicide mission because I had selected the people in the squad that were really ticking me off.

2) On a separate game night, again in charge of a squad, I gave permission for my squad to blue-on-blue the entire force in the middle of a debrief (which sounded like it was finished) after several elements had proposed the idea and the rest of the squad were up for it.

3) One time, one of my AT guys said he spotted several MRAPs in the distance and wanted to engage. Too busy pouring over my maps and attempting to locate the other squad which had fallen far behind, I gave him permission to fire, he destroyed the first vehicle and the second blew up by hitting the back of the wreckage. The third survived. I only found out later when the remnants of the squad met us that two of their vehicles had been destroyed by an AT ambush. I had their grid coords the wrong way round and they were much closer to us than I thought. I told them we eliminated the AT team.

4) A reoccurring problem one game night was some non-AW lads who had signed up and were doing their own thing, disregarding our commands/orders and what we were trying to do. They had an MRAP as their vehicle, and when we caught up to their pos one time and they had disembarked, I got in their vehicle and ran over them before linking back up with my squad and telling our lead that I had solved both the problem of our dwindling ammo and our non-abiding teammates.

5) In I believe our second large joint-op with JTF2 (where Angel's mission started with us being AAF and suppressed in a shack, and I was assigned leader of AAF because I thought I signed up as a fireteam leader, not team leader), after we had been picked up by NATO (after a beautiful meeting with them swooping down in a littlebird in the middle of the night) and we had been split as an AAF force due to vehicles' passenger constraints, some of my team had taken it upon themselves to jog for about 15 minutes to arrive at an old vehicle camp and picked up a quadbike, and brought it all the way back to us. In what was not my proudest moment, I was tired of being dicked around by JTF2 over transport to the final AO, and pulled rank on the guys who painstakingly found the quad (which was Angel himself and someone else), relieved them of it and took myself (and either Christiansen or Danny?) to the rest of the team where Raz, as 2ic, had set up a preparatory assault position in a forest. It was about 8 km away from where we originally were, and Angel and the other man had to jog all the way over to us.

I remember a lot of those ones Raz, especially the heli music one. We were all yelling because we thought someone in TS was mic-spamming and we damn-near shat ourselves when it started playing.

It led to Smith terming me 'The ruiner of gamenights'. That was a funny gamenight.

Oh man Cain #5! I had completely forgotten about that quad-bike thing! Haha I felt so guilty when we stole it but then I didn't want to walk so the guilt passed :D

It was the only time I've been like 'I'm AAF commander, you're just a private. I need this vehicle.'. Pulling rank on someone feels so horrible but there was no way in hell I was going to spend another 20 minutes walking to the new AO because JTF2 fucked us.

I remember that mission! Luckily for 8 I was posted on sentry so didn't suffer the mass grenade massacre. However, this meant that, unfortunately, I was still alive for HOAX's lead rain that blew me into a million tiny pieces!
