John McClane
Im getting a new graphics card some time later this month or the first week of january. And since its winter and work is slow they are bumping my hours down too about 18 Hours a week, so i still got school but i will be able to be on AND ACTUALLY PLAY ARMA WITHOUT 2 FRAMES PER SECOND. And get shoot some AI's http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-
Danny_S
If you can stretch to it I would suggest going for at least a 600 series card! I've never used a 500 series card but I can tell you my 680 is incredible! 600 series was the new architecture after the 500 series as well if I'm correct, definitely worth it I would say if you can justify it! tombguy5
technerd89
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7717570&CatId=7387 I must agree with Danny on this one, shoot for a 600 series card. The GTX650 is the budget-level 600 series card, not quite as beefy as the 680 but it will be a definite improvement over your 580 choice. At a personal level I have always been willing to recommend purchasing from TigerDirect. Their shipping prices are a little high, but they have always managed to get it out of the warehouse and onto the truck within 24 hours.
tombguy5
Yeah what they both said, Shoot for a 600 series. Perhaps a 650. I have a Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti and I can run ArmA 3 on ultra with less than 25 fps, High with 40fps depending on situation, and 50fps on low (which the graphics are godawful). My advice, do not get a 500 series unless you are running older games. I can barely handle Battlefield 4 with 40fps on medium graphic settings. Eventually, once I find a job where I actually get more than 10 hours a month, I'll be saving up to buy a GTX 780 (maybe TITAN if on sale). Hope this helps! Danny_S
From my understanding the GTX 650 is worse than the GTX 580? If you're going to go with a 600 series card instead of a 580 then 660 is the minimum really in my opinion, maybe even 660 Ti. The advantage is you get the new Kepler architecture which means less power usage and also the 600 series has pretty good OC potential! In the end though John it's up to you It's your money after all!
John McClane
Well my mother board only supports PCI Express 2.0 and the 580 is the last card too support that.

Dingo
Doesn't matter, pcie 2.0 is still the standard for the moment, all cards step down / backwards compatible with pci express 2, there are only a handfull of high end mobo's enabled with pcie 3.0 so go for a decent (read as better) afforadable card, the 580's a bit weedy for today's games

zissou
yeah ill mirror what's been said here already you really want to try your hardest to find the cash to go 6xx series it's a step up in architecture (600/700=kepler , 500=fermi) theres a h.264 encoder on board so you can make use of shadowplay to record after the fact and soon stream to twitch with very little impact to your gaming. keep in mind that maxwell (800 series) is roumoured to hit in march/april so expect a big price drop then. the pcie 3 vs 2 is a non issue you'll not need to worry you'll come nowhere near the bandwidth cap on it btw what are your other system specs?
