  1. Hot Shots... Part Eins Overview: You have asked, and you shall receive... As a one of this week will be all vortex slots... and the objective is simple. Conduct air superiority and air support missions for friendly forces in the Rosche region. For those of you who have played ash and trash from prairie fire, think of it as a Zeus version of that but with CAS. For those of you that haven't missions will pop up varying in their type and nature, for the session you will complete those missions. All of this will be Zeus controlled, and depending on numbers will effect the types of missions you get. Mission types will be as follows; Air superiority (continuous). Insert and evac. Bomber/CAS interdiction. CAS. hunter killer. sling load and logistics re-supply. SEAD. Missions will be called out to a squadron commander, on Platoon freq. who will then assign people to those missions. If airframes go down, and pilots survive, we will get an impromptu SERE exercise, downed pilots are NOT to respawn. As this is a one shot, no losses of airframes will count towards the vehicles pools. If you want to fly a jet, pick the vortex slots, if you want to play Helo, pick an infantry or vehicle crew slot. 2. November 24th 1983 The night air coiled around the open door as the heaters inside warmed the now deserted vehicle bay. Heating elements cast long shadows against the ammunition crates and spare parts. A solitary figure walked past the shadows of the big cats laying dormant outside, their purring noises reserved only for when they hunted. 99 luftballons whistled into the still night air, the Oberleutnant in the doorway finishing the bars. Taking one last drag of the cigarette he dropped the butt to the floor and crushed it underfoot. The new figure walked over, dulled Oberfeldwebel ranks barely catching the distant orange glow. The two nodded in acknowledgement and walked into the hangar to join the group of figures huddled over a hastily arranged table, the officer pausing only to squat and pick up the discarded butt and casually toss it into the make shift garbage bin seemingly out of reflex and absent mindedly. Once settled around the group he looked around at the assembled staff. “Gentlemen, welcome to world war three, except this time we didn’t start it.” The opening garnering a few smiles from the assembled NCOs. “Command is currently in a leadership contest with the Americans over who has operational authority in the region. They want Bundeswehr authority as well it’s our territory and mostly our troops. The Americans want overall command because… well…” he paused a second time to pull a new cigarette from the scratched metal case emerging from the inner breast pocket of his parka “they’re Americans.” Where the first quip failed to garner a response the second drew smirks of approval. The remains of 606 Panzergrenadier Battalion had had enough of the American logistics officers frantically trying to load all of their gear onto planes whilst telling Bundeswehr personnel how to do their jobs efficiently. “Command issued a general order, leaving battalion commanders on the ground to treat the Americans with respect and courtesy but to act at their discretion in defence of the national territory until local command structures were finalised.” He paused checking for any fuel cannisters, out of more habit than any caution. Flicking open the zippo lighter he’d traded a collection of Soviet patches for, he held the flame to the cigarette and took a long drag. “That means we can’t take advantage of the situation,” he pointed to the map with a broken dipstick. The hastily drawn line reflecting current NATO lines around the airfield. The metal rod touching the town of Masendorf. “The mechanised Regiment that was guarding our flank has taken a pounding and is understrength, the Russian armoured force that we defeated earlier this week is moving to reinforce their position but is being hampered by Luftwaffe sorties,” he nodded to the Luftwaffe pilots around the table, “thank you.” “There is a supply depot in that town, protected by what remains of that mechanised regiment. As the battalion still technically exists on paper, and as the remaining ranking officer, I believe it to be in my discretion to act in defence of national territory. I plan to raid this and cause as much confusion as possible in the Soviet lines. Just like we did when this all started. We move fast hit them hard and withdraw back to the airfield under air and artillery cover. We get in and out before they ever know it was just a raid and if we see any targets of opportunity, we deal with them too, that’s artillery pieces, communication towers, AA positions.” The Oberleutnant paused. Taking another drag on the cigarette he smiled and looked over the staff eyeing the map. Little plastic soldiers and vehicles dotted the map representing Soviet positions. “Things are a bit different now, we don’t have surprise, and that strike is well within the response of panzer forces stationed here,” the senior Feldwebel motioned to the small grey tanks on the map. He was due to retire after the Able Archer exercise, now his haggard face was less due to age and the monotony of peacetime service, and more due to the constant contact they’d endured for the past month. Right now, like many of the others, he was running on a mixture of black coffee, nicotine and hatred. “Well,” the Oberleutnant looked past the group of assembled soldiers and into the cold dark outside. Taking another drag on his cigarette the embers lit the wry smile on his face “we do have a reputation for armoured and combined arms warfare to maintain. I believe the phrase is putting the leopards in amongst the pigeons…” Server Details: IP: 116.202.224.207 Port: 2302 Modset: AWPzg.html10.74 kB · 0 downloads Global Mobilisation CDLC is Required (or compatibility mod https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1776428269) SOG Prairie Fire CDLC is Required (or compatibility mod https://steamcomm)unity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2477276806) CBA_A3 Ace Task Force Arrowhead (Beta!!!) 9. So far, and with all testing, yes it seems stable. It's designed so people can play a variety of roles. For Cold War time period it was armour and aircraft intensive, so there are more armour and air slots for people. There's also nothing to stop it being an all armour and air affair, if people are so inclined, the slots are based on numbers. We can always change on the fly if people want to do a thunder run, just let me know, I can try and accomodate. The aim of it is to be fun for everyone, and give everyone a chance to play their liked roles. The above structure is just an outline of what's available. It is a tricky balance to maintain so that everyone gets a chance to shoot stuff and get the Michael Nay moments, inevitably I won't get it right all the time so any feedback at end of session is always encouraged, especially if people want to try something different the following week.

Player Slots: 20 + 1 Zeus Previously on AW Panzergrenadier… Following the Able Archer Exercise of 1983, the Soviets mistakenly believed it to be an invasion and launched a pre-emptive strike at the culmination of the exercise. Recce Detachment, 606 Panzergrenadierbattaillon blew the bridges in their area of responsibility at Weferlingen. Recce Detachment were tasked with crossing the Iron Curtain in search of Soviet rocket batteries that were harassing West German units, and securing/destroying a Bundeswehr weapons depot that was now in enemy hands. Recce detachment engaged and destroyed a target of opportunity in the form of Soviet anti-air battery as well as disrupting bridging attempts. The following day 606 Panzergrenadierbattaillon counterattacked over the border into East Germany, their objective was to blunt the Soviet push, Recce Detachment was to hold A. Coy. left flank and destroy enemy artillery assets in the area. Recce Detachment proceeded to not only destroy the enemy artillery battery but also the HQ and most of the 23rd Mechanised Regiment, and supporting armour company, that they caught still forming up to counter A Coy.’s push. This was the first 72 hours… Situation: November 25th 1983 Following the unexpected success of the counter attack, Warsw Pact believed it to be a spearhead of a NATO offensive in the area. Polish and East German troops launched a new offensive in the past 6 hours to blunt this major NATO push. As a result, Panzergrenadierbataillon 606 has been badly mauled trying to hold the line, and is now below operational strength. It is to be disbanded and folded into another battalion upon completion of the withdrawal. The previous 3 days of fighting did blunt the Warsaw Pact attack but NATO is currently pulling units back from the Weferlingen area in the face of this new push. The US 7th Army will replace Bundeswehr units in region. The charge of the Recce Detachment is being known simply as ‘The Blutbad’ (Blood Bath) and are being credited with a 53:1 kill ratio. Local reports have already began calling the Recce detachment the Wölfe von Weferlingen (Wolves of Weferlingen). The 606 have specifically been requested by NATO command for this next operation. The US and NATO have fully activated their plans for full Return of Forces to Germany, aka REFORGER. With pre placed stockpiles of US war material all that was needed was for the personnel to use it. The time for completion is 72 hours after a 24 hour activation period. We are 48 hours into that period. One such stockpile is located Grasleben, 3km from the new frontline. These supplies must be evacuated or destroyed prior to NATO withdrawal from the area. It is Mission Critical that no supplies fall into Soviet hands. REFORGER ’83 will form a key part of the initial phase of the overall NATO counterattack, Operation Autumn Forge. Mission: Opposition forces are unknown, a general offensive has begun across the lines with East German units leading the charge. Reports of Polish paradrops around Barmke to the South have been received. It is anticipated that this is an attempt to encircle NATO forces in the region. Friendly forces are withdrawing from the area, the nearest stationary friendly position is Rhode. It is holding the road open for the eventual withdrawal to Rosche in the North. Panzergrenadierbataillon 606 A. and B. Coy will try and keep the jaws of this encirclement from closing for as long as possible, performing a fighting withdrawal to Rhode. As such they have been given priority for all heavy assets in region and priority tasking for all support assets. Recce (Task Force Wolfe) is to push South and secure Obj. Vulcan, they will be assisted by a detachment of US pilots (Vortex). Once secure Vortex will ferry motor pool personnel to recover the vehicles and supplies. Wolfe are cleared to use any assets at Obj. Vulcan but (overlord discretion) within their respective roles. Hansel and Gretel are cleared to use any armour assets. Vortex are cleared to use any air assets. Wolfe are cleared to use any motorised assets. Once the REFORGER depot has been emptied or remaining vehicles and supplies destroyed, Wolfe will withdraw from the area by moving to the marked extract point. Vulcan) in Grasleben. This stockpile belongs to the US 7th Army, specifically one of its armoured divisions. Once secure Vortex will ferry US personnel from the FARP at Rhode to recover the vehicles and supplies. The more supplies and vehicles secured the better. Task Force Wolf only needs to be concerned with keeping the compound secure. They are to hold the compound for as long as possible, any vehicles and supplies not able to be recovered are to be destroyed. Any other targets of opportunity are to be dealt with at operational commander’s discretion. CAS will be provided by Vortex and at the operational commander’s discretion. Sustainment: Initial respawn will be at ‘Mission Start’ spawn point. Medical Iltis would serve as a mobile respawn and medical vehicle. Should this be destroyed, respawn will be ‘Respawn After Mission Start’, with reinserts performed by vortex. There are repair, rearm, refuel points set up (shown below) at Obj Vulcan and Rhode. The village of Rhode has the FARP marked. Command and Control: Operational command will be with Alpha Squad Leader. Notes on REFORGER Supply Depot: As an aside, and out of full disclosure, any assets you secure will be added to the asset pool for the remainder of the campaign. There will be no respawns of assets throughout this campaign. The more supply trucks you secure will open up more arsenal options from next mission onwards. Lastly, for those intel analysts, production dates, and the types of units that were in the region during this period are also considered, for the purpose of choosing assets in the depot. Additional notes: All vehicle crews and pilots are advanced engineers so as to repair vehicles There are 4 pilot slots for a reason, Zeus reserves the right to limit this to two if other slots are not filled. Vortex you will have the ability to sling load some of the vehicles at Obj. Vulcan as well as bring in more motor pool personnel. There is deliberately not enough airframes at mission start due to airframes becoming available later in mission. Due to having taken out all artillery positions and AAA, there will be no Soviet artillery support, or self-propelled AAA. Due to having kept the bridges out of action, reinforcements take longer to arrive if arriving by road. Having wiped out both East German and Polish HQs in the opening stages, no Russian units will be present. Campaign Notes: Resupply of assets in this campaign will be done through secondary objectives during missions and will be a mix of US and West German assets. These will not be of the same quality or quantity during this mission. Prairie Fire will be used for better aircraft *cough* f-4 phantoms next week *cough* and certain gear and vehicles. For those wanting more Vietnam stuff, Midnight is the Vietnam master and I am not stepping on his toes. This will be confined to the classic cold war thinking i.e. Armour in Europe. Havoc I am sorry, I know you are doing Operation Reforged on Reforger. REFORGER is literally the historical name for the operation of rushing troops into West Germany and was a regular exercise from 1967 until 1992. You'll be facing 7.62 and not wearing body armour... if you don't use cover and get hit it will hurt. Testing has also shown that clsoe range 7.62 is no joke with muiltiple wounds inflicted.
  15. OK, my two cents. Thank you DAMO *swoons*. Perhaps instead of CSAT use the Sahara DLC opfor... it's light infantry with a scattering of armoured assets... the lack of high value vics it's offset by high calibre weapons on infantry so it's a different play style. Also we fight CSAT on EU1 so change of map change of enemy? Not sure how much of a pain that is to implement though. Arsenal requests; contractor desert outfits. SLRs SA77 (the funky DLC AR). Gallils for recon? Sahara desert combat helmets. Wills end on classnames when not completely goosed.

Bundeswehr positions have been taking rocket artillery from positions just inside the occupied zone. Recce is to find this battery and eliminate it. Mission: Soviet artillery has begun using rocket artillery to harass Bundeswehr positions, in response an artillery company (Callsign Hammer) consisting of three batteries has been brought up. Counter battery fire has been ineffective, due to it relocating after each salvo, recce detachment is to conduct an early morning raid and reconnaissance patrol to locate and guide hammer onto the rocket artillery that is located somewhere in the marked area as well as engaging targets of opportunity in the area. The artillery is is objective Wolf. Procedure for firing will be one gun firing ranging rounds, guided onto target by Recce. Once confirmed on target, full battery will fire for effect. Recce will provide BDA. Once hammer fires, counter battery fire from the east side of the iron curtain is to be expected. The more hammer fires the more effective counter battery will be. 22. So disclaimer before we start… This is the opinion of an asshole, an opinion no more no less, it is one that is based on my experiences and perception which will differ from your own, difference of opinion is good. Most of my experience is in the role of Rifleman (AT) – R(AT). As such I’ll keep my comments primarily within that area of experience. Indirect Nerf: Weapon sway is what I would call an indirect nerf, in that, yes, it is affecting everyone but some classes will be affected more than others by any changes to it. This is mostly seen in classes where heavier loadouts are required, for example Rifleman AT – R(AT). I am also aware that this is stamina entwined so to be clear this isn’t about tweaking stamina rather mitigating the effect (weapon sway) of the stamina settings on the player. Something which I believe we can do rather easily (open to correction) as opposed to changing how stamina works. Impact on R(AT): Typically I run a R(AT)/R(AA) loadout working out of a hunter… that being a base loadout with one of each launcher and missiles in the hunter that I can swap out as needed. The tactic being set up on the downslope of a hill, blast the armour and aircraft, switching out launchers as needed then move in and clear as a standard rifleman with the hunter doing all the heavy lifting (carrying). The problem I have is in the distance (5-10m) it takes me to walk to the top of the hill with a launcher and 1 more missile I’m at 50ish% stamina. The weapon sway kicks in and I’m sat there for anywhere up to 2 minutes (yes I’ve timed) waiting for the sight to settle so I can guide the missile to target. The reason you have to guide is the AI will use counter measures if you lock on so in order to be effective in that role you have to manually guide, which the AI won’t launch countermeasures on as it doesn’t receive a lock on warning. Previously Tried Solutions: I can confirm, having tested, that running a loadout of 5 FAK in the uniform, 6x 5.56 mags and an empty kitbag does not make any marginal difference in the weapon sway settling to my normal loadout. I’ve also tried running single missiles back and forth, if you jog or sprint to the hill it is a similar ‘weapon sway cooldown’ before you can actually guide the missile in. Which means you have to walk, then you’re looking at 60-90 seconds of wait to reduce sway to hit an armoured target at 800(ish)m. For me personally, losing time on target running back and forth and waiting for sway to settle isn’t as efficient as just bringing two missiles up and firing. Weapon sway seemingly is less between shots which means reduced wait on sway settle. The issue for R(AT) is not base loadout weight, as we have to take missiles to shoot which increases our weight as titans are heavy and immediately easts into stamina. This results in dead time for the role, and makes vehicles infinitely more suited to the role of AT work, nullifying that role somewhat (somewhere in the distance TheScar is laughing). Other Roles: I have less limited experience with SAW but can say that it is noticeable with the bigger boy rounds (SPMG), although the issue of compulsory ammunition (i.e. ammunition for the role specific weapon) is still there however the issue is mitigated by the ability to bipod or weapon rest, something not applicable to the launchers. To confirm I have tried it with the 5.56 Minimi (LMG I think is the name), Negev (Zafir) and the SPMG. All had the same loadout (bipod, laser pointer and ACOG) and 600 rounds. As a rifleman I just don’t bother engaging beyond a certain range (300ish) unless I can bipod and even at close range I’ll drop to a walk weapon raised to minimise sway (yes I know part of that is the movement but walking reduces stamina consumption = less weapon sway). Conclusion: Hence above, my term indirect nerf, in that it disproportionately affects roles where compulsory ammunition is heavy. I think it does need to be changed to reduce downtime between pew pew for AT, and from the sounds of it for standard infantry too during short bursts of speed from cover to cover. Solutions: I think the solution proposed by Gambit is the best, we release a new aiming coefficient let people try and see what happens until we get one the community agrees on (or hates the least). Personally some sway is good, but my preference is to the lower end of middle so it will only really affect the character if you are really exerting and pushing your stamina, in that stamina management is still a factor and the intent of the mechanic is kept in the game rather than removing it completely.
